Power Shutdown/startup Process

We are going thru building power maintenance activity and my question is, is there any Cisco recommened or process or practicse for shutdown/startup the Telepresence devices and VCS, TCS, MUC.

Hi Mahesh,
We need to follow standard procedure as mentioned in the admin guides, like for VCS it is (Maintenance > Restart and then click Restart System )

  • Shutdown startup of oracle vm

    Hi experts
    I am new to VM
    Could you let me know the shutdown startup process for oracle vm manager/server on windows and linux
    thanks

    Hi,
    Not sure precisely what you are after here, but....VM Server is your xen based hypervisor that hosts your guest virtual machines. VM manager is the web based tool you use to mange your guests and to some extent you VM Server.
    In my config, I have VM Server running on a machine - it installs as the only OS. In this I have two guest machines installed.
    My VM manager is installed in a OEL5 guest on virtualbox.
    You can start the VM Manager independently of the Server if the manager isn't installed on the Server. Basically it will show the status of all know servers and guests; in my setup, I have to boot the VM Server manually and then I can connect to it from the VM manager and start / stop the guests
    This concepts are clearly shown in the VM v3.x manual.

    ThanksStopping the Oracle RAC 10g Environment
    The first step is to stop the Oracle instance. When the instance (and related services) is down, then bring down the ASM instance. Finally, shut down the node applications (Virtual IP, GSD, TNS Listener, and ONS).
    $ export ORACLE_SID=orcl1
    $ emctl stop dbconsole
    $ srvctl stop instance -d orcl -i orcl1
    $ srvctl stop asm -n linux1
    $ srvctl stop nodeapps -n linux1
    Starting the Oracle RAC 10g Environment
    The first step is to start the node applications (Virtual IP, GSD, TNS Listener, and ONS). When the node applications are successfully started, then bring up the ASM instance. Finally, bring up the Oracle instance (and related services) and the Enterprise Manager Database console.
    $ export ORACLE_SID=orcl1
    $ srvctl start nodeapps -n linux1
    $ srvctl start asm -n linux1
    $ srvctl start instance -d orcl -i orcl1
    $ emctl start dbconsole
    Start/Stop All Instances with SRVCTL
    Start/stop all the instances and their enabled services. I have included this step just for fun as a way to bring down all instances!
    $ srvctl start database -d orcl
    $ srvctl stop database -d orcl

    Just a minor comment on the stop nodeapps.
    While it is fine to stop the nodeapps on the server, the drawback to this is, that the VIP will not failover if you stop the nodeapps, but will be stopped.
    Hence if you only shutdown one server, then you are causing clients to fail to connect to the VIP and having to wait for the TCP/Timeout.
    So if you are not going to shut down all the server, but just want to shutdown one node, you should failover the VIP the the other node.
    See: Note 749160.1 Vip Does Not Failover When Nodeapps Stopped
    So it is sometimes better instead of stopping the nodeapps, to simply shutdown the cluster with crsctl stop crs (which will failover the VIP).

    Hi,
    I got this error too when I installed Tomcat 3.2.1 on JDK1.2.2. But when I changed by JDK to 1.3.1 and altered the tomcat.bat file to take JAVA_HOME to jdk1.3.1 path, it worked fine.
    Change your JVM to JDK1.3.1 and this should get rid of the error.

When I start the mac up I hold the control button until the Mac OS install disk shows up. My hard drive doesn't show up anymore. Is there any other button I have to hold down to bring a different menu up. I have also tried to boot up holding control and C and nothing happens.  Thanks for the help so far

    If you tried resetting the ipod and it still keeps having the same issue you described, try setting the ipod to disk mode.
    Here is an article from the apple support website on setting the ipod to disk mode.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    If you can get the ipod into disk mode, connect it to the computer and rrestore the ipod using itunes.
    if the ipod will not go into disk mode, you can return the ipod or set the ipod up for service via the apple ipod service depot.

  • Firewire 800 Port back to life after power shutdown?

    I experienced a strange event and would like to share it with you for feedback and comments.
    During several days the external hard disk connected to the Firewire 800 port of my IMAC caused me increasingly problems, and eventually the disk would not mount at all on the desktop. I connected the disk to the FW800 port of my portable and the disk worked quite fine. I concluded that the FW800 port of the IMAC was damaged. I was preparing myself to contact Apple to get the IMAC repaired.
    Then recently we had a general shutdown of power in our town, for several hours.
    When the power came back, I had the idea to reconnect the external disk to the FW800 port, and miracle, the disk mounted immediately and has been working fine since.
    Is is possible that the ports of the computer come back to life after a power shutdown? How is this possible?
    Can I conclude that it is recommended to disconnect a computer from time to time, just to reset some parameters?

    Yep, both USB and Firewire ports can get in into a "bad state" and only complete removal of power will reset those chip sets.
    Unfortunately, when you power down the computer there is always a bit of power still applied to the motherboard to keep things alive and this usually includes powering the ports to do stuff like detect when a device is plugged in or wants to wake up the computer. The downside of this is when a bus/port chipset goes into a weird state, locks up, etc., simply power cycling (shutdown & restart) the computer won't work.
    So first thing to try is resetting the chipset and to do this you have to power down the computer and completely unplug the computer from the wall power (unplug the power cord to your Mac). Also unplug everything from the Mac's ports (USB, FW, Ethernet, etc.) to make sure no parasitic power is still there to keep the chipset alive. Now let it sit for a minute (give those big power caps in there time to discharge). Now plug stuff back in & start up the Mac. Now see if your USB or Firewire ports work any better.
    Even Apple acknowledges this occasional issue...
    What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device

  • My imac shuts down during the startup process - possible startup file corrupt..??

    startup process begins normally...
    grey screen - then the apple - then the spinning wheel -
    sometimes shuts down during spinning wheel, sometimes it gets to the blue screen then shuts down

    Zap the PRAM and Reset the SMC, then try again. If no go, Bboot with the SL install disc, launch Disk Utility, repair the disk, and restart normally. If that doesn't do the trick reinstall SL and then run Software Update if that does.

  • Boot drive in Bay 3 or Bay 4 will it slow down the startup process?

    If I have my boot drive in Bay 3 or Bay 4 will it slow down the startup process? I know in old PCs it would look for the boot drive by looking each time in a certain order. If the MP did that then it would probably look at Bay 3 and Bay 4 last on its ordered sequence.

    But.... I think there is a but here... Mac OS does still look for other boot drives none the less.
    On a PC, most have an option in the BIOS to set the device types (CDROM, hard drive, USB). and the order of hard drives to look. Meaning that I can have a system on a hard drive that is off line, pop it in, make it the primary boot device and boot from it, and boot quickly.
    Sometimes people will disable a chipset or not enable hardware RAID on the motherboard.
    Startup Disk control panel sets the boot path in nvram and even if you do have 4 boot drives in Mac Pro, it should still boot in 20-45 seconds.

  • Time Capsule power shutdown

    There was a power shutdown, and the time capsule is not working when power came back. The light is orange. What do I need to do?

    Tell us the model number of the TC.. eg
    A1254 Gen 1 A1302 Gen 2 A1355 Gen 3 are moulded into the rubber base mat first line. Gen4 is A1409 and written on the paper label where it always should have been.
    Is the LED flashing at all.. if it is solid orange (amber) then the TC has failed to boot.. this is due to faulty hard disk or faulty power supply.
    Try power down the TC and leave it off for several hours.. then power up again. Place your hand on it to feel or listen to the fan spin up immediately on power on.. and hard disk spin up after about 20sec.
    Tell us the exact sequence the LED and ethernet port leds go through.
    This is the normal sequence.
    It should flash green.. then go solid amber.. the ethernet port leds will flash very quickly.
    After about 1min (bit less or more depending on the model) the LED should go to flashing amber.. then if everything is good, green.
