Power/Sleep button broke

Power/Sleep button broke, is there any way this can be fixed at home? I bought the phone 2nd hand and it still had warranty when I sent it back because of a dead pixel and a wobbly home button they said the warranty had been voided? Which confused me so I can't send it back to Apple, any help would be nice. I have ready through old dicussions but didn't seem to find much help

Apple doesn't fix stuff like this, they replace the phone. Cost for an iPhone 4S is US $199. You can try a third-party repair shop in your area, Google such...should be around US $50 or so.

Otherwise I think you are out of luck.

  • Power / sleep button won't work

Using an iPad 2, the power / sleep button stopped working.  Pressing the button won't make it sleep.  Holding the button won't shut it down.  I tried a hard restart (pressing the power and home buttons at the same time) for 10 seconds then one minute, and nothing happend.  So I decided to restore the ipad and backed it up to my MBP in iTunes.  When I clicked the button to Restore a message said some apps weren't transferred, but I don't know how to transfer apps and figured that's what a back up is.  I tried drag/drop of apps but that didn't work.  I looked around for instructions how to transfer the apps but there was nothing but Back Up, so I clicked Restore.
The iPad was Restored, but all the apps were deleted and the power / sleep button still doesn't work, so it won't shut off or sleep.
    Any ideas?

More than likely, you have a hardware problem with the iPad sleep button and there is nothing that you can do about it other than to have the device replaced. That will be covered under the warranty, if the device is under one year old and if the damage was not caused by user abuse. You should probably contact Apple or take the iPad to an Apple store for evaluation.
When the iPad Ian connected to iTunes on the Mac - if you click on the iPad name under the devices heading - and then click on the Apps Tab in the iTunes window on the right - do you see your apps in iTunes? If you see them in the list, sync them back to the iPad.
If you don't see them, if they are gone .... You can download most of your purchased content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. Read more about it here.

  • Broken power/sleep button

I have had my iphone 4 since Oct 2010 and it is still in great condition.  But, within minutes, my power/sleep button stoped working.  It isn't stuck, but is not functioning in any way.  Is there a solution I can tackle by myself or am I out of luck?  Also, I didn't buy it directly from the apple store, I bought it from ATT. (Oct 2010ish?) Is this a fix that needs "major" or "minor" surgery?
    THANK YOU!

You can bring it to a 3rd party repair shop if you wish, but out of warranty exchange via Apple is $149.00.  AT&T does not handle repairs; don't even bother bringing it there.

  • Power/Sleep Button "Lags"

Recently I've been having problems with my Power/Sleep button. Sometimes, the button fails to respond and the only way to fix it so far is to connect it to iTunes and disconnect it.
Now at first I thought it was a software error, so I updated but still the same problem. I also restored numerous times, but no avail.
This is recently happening quite often and very annoying.
    What should I do?

If this is still happening after restoring as "new iPhone" in iTunes, there may be a hardware problem. Your only option is to make an appointment with an Apple store Genius Bar to get it checked out.

  • Power/sleep button broken i need to get it into DFU mode.

Hi all i dropped my Iphone 3GS today and sadly the power/sleep button just stopped working but i really need to put it into DFU mode so i can restore the device and update the device i was wondering if there was any other way, also i have no time to go into a apple store as i am it college and work and i can't really afford to repleace this phone, if i coulf get it into DFU mode then i would be fine unto i get a new job
    Thanks in Advance.

Yes i had the phone for 1 and a half years now. and no the sim thing is when i updated to IOS5.0.1 i have read about it and it has happend to quite a few people when there updated to the IOS5 or 5.0.1, 5.1 is meant to fix this issue so i heard.
I tried the sim in a friends phone Iphone 3G, activates fine, I been down to my local orange shop there said there seen a few problems like this and it is due to the IOS5 or 5.0.1 there tried over 20 sims and managed to get one to work i think it is because of the basebind update, but anyway i have took my phone into a local repair shop and there are repairing it for me and wow there have good prices there can repair it for £30 and it be ready first thing in the morning, apple said there can repair it for £80 and it could take upto 3 weeks so i need my phone for tommorow so i took it into the repair shop and it is alot cheaper.
And @stevejobsfan0123 I just looked at your products and i must say wow i did not know one person could own so many apple products .
Thanks for all your help though .

  • My Power/sleep Button is'nt working on iPhone 5

  • Power/ sleep button stop working, how do I fix this

I got the iPhone 5 when it first came out, I have just recently had problems with the power sleep wake button. It Hardly ever works, there is no damage to the phone

What version of Microsoft Word is it? If it's 2004, you're SOL. If it's a newer version, you may need to re-install it. I'd say you'd have the best luck with Word 2011.

  • My iPhone 4 will not turn on (Sleep button broke as well cannot hold Sleep   Home button)

My iPhone 4 has worke alright since I've had it, I believe it ran out of battery since it was low the last time I checked it. It will now not turn on even when I have charged it for an hour+. The sleep button does not work so I cannot hold the Sleep + Home button for 10 to 15 seconds to turn it back on.
    Please help, thanks.

Take your iPhone to an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center for an assessment and advice on next steps.

  • My power/sleep button on my iPhone 5 has been malfunctioning.

Only the left side works. Do you guys think Apple would fix it if I have T-Mobile running on it?

I've had an unresponsive sleep button last year with the iPhone 5 (about 9 months after I bought it outright). Brought it to the Apple store in Sydney and had it replaced for free with no questions asked.
The Apple genius checked to make sure that there was no water damage and checked the IMEI to make sure it was under warranty. Otherwise it would cost money to have it replaced.

  • Disable power/sleep button

    hallo,
for a sound installation, i have a G3 with panther ; i have a parallel wired power-switch (= same as the switch on the front of the computer) going to a panel, so the people in the site can switch on the installation easily. however when the computer is running, i want the button to be non-functional (the mac os shouldn't respond to it in any way). at the moment the power button is also used to send the computer to sleep. i already unchecked the option "allow sleep mode through the power switch" (translated from german) in the energy saver preferences pane (options tab), but that doesn't have any effect ... is there a way to disable the sleep/wake function of the power button ?
    thanks a lot. best, -sciss-
    PowerMac G3 (blue)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

that is wired through the mother board jsut like the apple bootup sound when you start up the computer, i dont think you can alter it.

  • Suddenly, the power/sleep button will not respond

I can't put the iPod touch into sleep mode, or shut it off by holding the power button.
I've reset by holding power and home buttons, as well as reset all settings on the touch itself via the menu.
    Any ideas?

yes the replacement will cover dead/stuck pixels as long it is within the 14 day return period. Even if it is not it is worth going to an apple store and talkin to them about it. You may get a replacement anyway.
As far as the main question you may just have a defective Ipod. It sounds to me like a hardware problem. If you have tried resetting via the iPod itself as well as tried restoring via iTunes then theres not much else you can do to fix a problem like that. You may just need to return it to where you got it from and request a replacement/repair.

  • Power/sleep button broken... iPhone turned off with still some battery, how do i get it to turn back on?

my power button on my iphone 4 is broken/stuck. phone turned off but not because of empty battery so charging does not help to turn in back on. i cannot get the phone to come on. what can i do?

Does the iPhone charge at all or does it stay on the low battery display?

  • Oh that power/sleep button

I'v had my touch 2gen since the end of june and it gets used moderatly, i don't really carry it around with me or put it through any physical strain.
However recently i have noticed that the power button feels deeper than it used to be, it no longer clicks when i push it and most of the time i need to really PUSH it before it reacts...
    Is this common?
    Is there a cure?
Thanks in advance anyone who has advice!

I have seen posts in the past regarding this issue. Since it is a hardware issue and a 2G it is still under warranty. I would take it to a apple store if you have one locally , or call to have it sent in to be looked at. if it is a defect they will replace it.

  • My iTouch 4th Gen won't turn on. It won't charge. I tried doing the "home" + "power/sleep" button. And before my itouch shuts off, it's battery power level is low.

My itouch won't turn on, i tried the "home" +  "power button and still no response from the itouch. also i know that my battery was low when it turned off. I tried charging it on my desktop or in my usb charger. still no response from my itouch. it is 4th Gen, it has the latest software and it is only two months old.

Try letting it charge for a little while longer.  Then try another hard reset.  Only this time hold those two buttons together anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute.  Any luck there?
Otherwise, see the Will not power on section of this Apple support document.
