Power stats?

Hi,
I've recently heard that Xserve contains a wide range of power
sensors, and that some server management software can report
power dissipation stats. However, I haven't been able to find
exactly: (1) the list of sensors, (2) the name of the management
software that I can use to generate statistics.
I've skimmed the basic Xserve documentation, but couldn't find
what I'm looking for.
Ideally, I would like to access these sensors from my own
software and perform the readings when needed.
Thank you. Kind regards and happy holidays,
Domagoj

Thanks Camelot for replying so quickly.
Can Server Monitor also track power dissipated by memory/CPU/disk/motherboard?
If yes, two sub-questions:
1) Are those real measurements, or estimates computed from
temperature/fan_speed/voltage measurements?
2) Can I access the sensors from my own code? (I.e., are the detailed
motherboard specs and programming manuals available?)
Thanks. Kind regards,
Domagoj

  • Driver power state failure (Windows 8.1 pro) when downloading a program and restart.

    Hey Guys,
I've been trying to fix this problem for a while now, without any solution. I have a HP ENVY 15-j035eo Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
which I install Windows 8.1 pro on. I start by getting all the drivers that are missing in Device Manager and updates.
Now I want to enable virtualization with Hyper -V client (All requirements are met for that). Then the computer crashes after restart with a driver power state failure. Exactly the same occurs when I install Visual Studio after restart. Here is some info from
the dump file from blue screen viewer that i get for the problem.

    Hi,
ntoskrnl.exe is known as a kernal image for windows operating system, but hard to find the actual acuse basically according to this error message you provided in the original post, maybe a 3 rd party program or a missing file, or corrupted driver.
Please uplaod the dump file after running Driver Verifier, you can find detailed instruction in the following link (provided  by Patrick Barker)

We do need the actual DMP file as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask
If you are using Blue screen view, who crashed, or a similar application, don't.  They are wrong at least as often as they are correct

  • How to change power state in a Service Profile Template

I'd like to change the setting "Power State" in a Service Profile Template. While I can change nearly every other aspect of the template, I can't find this in the UCS Manager GUI. Is this an immutable decision while creating the template? Can I change it via the CLI?

    Hi Joernclausen,
What is the firmware version of your UCS?
From the CLI try the following and let me know if it works.
Go into the FI CLI and perform the steps below, ensure to enter your own template_name and select appropriate type of template followed by setting the power up or down
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A# scope org
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org # enter service-profile template_name initial-template
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile # power up
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile* # commit-buffer
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile # power down
    sj-ucs-r13-mon-A /org/service-profile* # commit-buffer
You may also be able to change the power state from the individual service profiles
Go to the service profile and use "Change Initial Power State" button for modifying the desired-power value.

  • Xserve raid shows power state UPS backup

How do I change the power state from UPS backup to on like the rest of the xserve raids we have? None of the xserve raids we have ever used a UPS so I do not know why this one is showing power state UPS Backup under the information tab of the GUI.
This is annoying since it's causing the circle to be yellow instead of green. Any ideas or suggestions?

Never seen this. Does it help if you temporally disconnect the power cable?

  • Yoga 8.1 Driver Power State Failure

So this is my second attempt at 8.1 that works as well as 8. Very aggravating but that's old news here. All i can say is that I'd be having a fit except for the one button image of 8 with all my stuff that I just restored.
What causes the suddon Driver Power State Failure message and either freeze or crash? I could have sworn I downloaded all the correct 8.1 drivers and followed all the other suggestions here on this forum.
And, Lenovo, what about providing an 8.1 image for all your loyal cutomers that bought the first generation Yoga. Aren't you embarrased that we are all going thru this?

    Hi,
    How is the current situation?
If the issue persists, please upload the dump file as below methods:

The only answer is to hard reboot the machine as everything hangs. Even the shell in Terminal.app is stuck which is a pitty as I feel certain that kextunload/kextload AppleYukon2.kext would free the problem but I cant even get to it.
Getting real miffed with 10.6.8 as since I upgraded I have a whole host of problems with it. I cant even plug my ipod in without itunes core dumping.

    BTW: what does
now preventing C4 low power state due to the switch ignoring pause packets
    mean? What are the consequences?

  • Black screen upon wake from sleep when I change power state while in sleep

    Hi,
I'm having this problem where my MacbookPro won't always wake from sleep.
OSX is 10.6.3 and fully updated.
I've done a lot of troubleshooting, and I can now replicate the issue 100%:
1 - Put the MacbookPro to sleep by closing lid
2 - Change power source (from plugged-in to battery or vice versa)
3 - open lid - MacbookPro will wake, but stays at black screen and is unresponsive.
Only if I change power state while sleeping will this issue show. Anyone else experincing this issue, and anygot got a clue on what to do?
    regards,
    Lasse

I've seen the same issue after upgrading to 10.6.3. I have a one year old MacBook Pro. I would have the screen be black after coming back from sleep or hibernate (tried both).
The workaround I found is to close the lid -almost- all the way and then immediately open it back up again, like I am catching the Mac going back to sleep and then changing my mind. For whatever reason, this has been reliably solving my issue for the last couple weeks reliably.
Only other oddity I noticed is that immediately after upgrading OS X told me that my one year old battery needed to go in for servicing...
Anyway, now all looks right with the world assuming you don't mind a quick close/open cycle.. Lovely...

  • Klaptop using /proc/acpi/sleep instead of /sys/power/state

This is a problem in kde since it disables most of the features of klaptop. In other words for me at-least kde cpu frequency scaling, standby, suspend do not work through klaptop since it seems to use /proc/acpi/sleep instead of /sys/power/state which is the only thing available in the new kernel. I am not sure if this is a kde problem, my kernel problem, or just simply my particular problem.
Is there a way to fix this.
    Thanks for the help,
    Matt

It also seems kde is not reading the current cpu frequency correctly. It seems to use/proc/cpuinfo instead of /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq to get the current frequency. In addition when clicking setup helper applications under ACPI Config in klaptop I get:
The /opt/kde/bin/klaptop_acpi_helper application does not seem to have the same size or checksum as when it was compiled we do NOT recommend you proceed with making it setuid-root without further investigation
Are other people having these problems as well or is this unique to me.

  • T400 Penryn CPU Power States?

I i have a P8400 CPU in my T400 Vista 64 and CPUZ only reports two power states no matter whether on battery or AC. One is max 2,3ghz the other is 1,6ghz.
I have powermanager and vista set to "Optimize power plan" and have also tried to set the max frequency at 5% to test, yet the CPU does not go below 1,6ghz.
My old Core Duo had more power states, the lowest being 700 or 800 mhz.
Did i miss something to activate the C4 / Deep Sleep settings? I tried changing the bios settings with no avail.
Also do features like switching off one core when it is not needed etc (introduced in santa rosa) work without any setup or do i have to activate that somehow as well?
I would appreciate if someone could check whether their CPUs go into Deep Sleep or also have only 2 visible power states.

    Hi
    Welcome to the community.
As per your concern low CPU frequency occurs after wake up from the hibernate or sleep mode  So to recover from this concerned issue,I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and Bios of your system from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?
Also choose the battery in the balanced mode.
After this, please restart the notebook and check if the issue resolved.

  • Runing script of power state change

I have two scripts I want to be run on power state change - one when to battery power and the other when connecting AC.
The information of AC state is here: /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online, and the values are 0 or 1.
So I wrote a script that looks like that
if grep -Fxq "0" /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online; then
    powerdown
    else
    powerup
    fi
and added it to be run from /etc/rc.local
But it does not seem to run on power source change.
    What's wrong?

    When does rc.local run?

  • Getting Device Power State using Windbg Extension

    Hi All,
I want to develop an application and debugger extension to get the current power state of my device. I know in the application side, p can use the SetupAPI to get the current power state of the device. I want to accomplish the same using WinDbg extension.
Can i use the SetupApi in Winfdbg extension? If not, what is the other way to do that?
    Thanks in advance.

SetupAPI can be called from windbg extension, but it will act on the host (debugger) side - not what you expect.
The power state of the device is in device_object-> _DEVOBJ_EXTENSION -> _DEVICE_OBJECT_POWER_EXTENSION.State field.
(this is undocumented secret, so don't tell anyone!)
