Does anybody know if it is ok to use a standard travel adaptor with macbook magsafe 85w power supply?

I am moving to New Zealand and want to take my macbook pro with me.

I am aware of the apple travel kit.
Do i need to purchase this, or is a standard travel adaptor safe?

The item that is crucial is the connector to the AC outlet. The power adapter will work from 100 to 240 volts.

Does Creative sell replacement power supply / ac adaptors for out of warrenty produc

The part I need is the external power supply / ac adaptor. It's rated 3.5 V at 5Am
ps.
I checked every other possibility in the setup of my system and came to the conclusion that the power supply has died. I confirmed this by using a OHM-Meter which showed no power flowing through the device.
The device has a model number on it
Model: UA-450
If anyone knows if/where I can get a replacement part.
I emailed Customer service but have yet to receive any reply.

Thanks for your note.. I am still not getting any display or Target firewire startup after
several days of off and on attempts to try every variation of reset, pram/nvram reset et.al because i hoped to have one shot at re-booting it to avoid sending it out for repair with data on the hard drive.
I've tried with and w/o battery in... (fully charged). I'm able to get through the PMU using shift-fn-ctrl-power keyboard combo but on subsequent attempts to restart,
power button with T or even power button alone, there is no power-on at all but a few times I've been able to get the PMU reset and before I go to manually restart it, it restarts (chime) itself, however the only thing indicating it is on is that the caps lock key lights and i can hear (listening with my ear to the thing that it's "on..." yet the drive never gets spinning - If there's any other idea to trick this thing into a Target FW startup or other means of accessing the HD to remove certain data i'm still hoping to get this one fixed (esp. if it is only the cost of a Logic Board replacement.
What is really curious is that a few times it has gone to a PMU reset (with the single beep) even when i have just tried to startup with the power-button alone....and then, as i say, restarted (well, powered on..but nothing else...no display, no drive recognition presumably...)

Ok here's my setup
Mac Book Pro 13" APRIL 2011 latest firmware. 8GB RAM. Surge Protected mains connection..
M-AUDIO FIREWIRE SOUNDCARD AUDIOPHILE most recent drivers and powered by the MacBooks Firewire Out using a NEET Pro Lead,
The M-Audio has 2 x Firewire Ports and I take one to a 2TB 7800rpm Iomega iMedia Drive which daisy chains to a 1TB FireWire Seagate HardDrive and yes both are Pre Powered and formatted for Time Machines exclusive use.
The M-Audio Firewire module can be pre powered but isn't for this reason, the FireWire Out from the Mac IS pre powered, and I'm using a good quality NEET lead that powers the Audiophile ok over the last few months. I have been warned by the manual if I add a power supply to a pre powered firewire chain I could damage equipment, I'm now running the the screen as low as possible and the backlit keys off to minimise power drain, I also use an Acer 24" Monitor with a NEET DV mini port to HDMI adaptor and it's been working great but this must be more power drain on the power supply, One of the USB ports goes to an Native Instruments Maschine Sampler Module, the other goes to a Pre Powered 4 Port USB Hub and that has been fine, it has 1 Axiom 25 USB Midi Keyboard, 2 Pre Powered Hard Discs 1 Portable USB Drive. Now the problems started with Time Machine it can't backup and I get Hard Disk Unsafe Disconnects and Failed Time Machine Backups and Now my Soundcard does the same in that it momentarily disconnects and reconnects in a second, in Settings under ENERGY SETTINGS I've set hard drives to Never Shut Down, and the Screen also, it's been more frequent, then a fuse blows in the Power Supply without tripping up my Surge Protector Socket pfft! just great, well it is only a 3AMP Fuse in the Plug Socket but it saved my MacBook!, ok checks Mains, yes it's old, and I've started using the Central Heating alot now and when it turns on it could be causing a power surge, same with the FridgeFreezer. Things i've tried, on the Seagate pre powered FireWire Hardisc I have switched the Firewire lead to its second FW port, I got no errors with Time Machine this time, not 100% it's done yet, Soundcard resets in Logic 9 ****, I do have 2 lower quality Firewire Leads that go from the Soundcard to the 2 harddrives will need upgrading ASAP, thats next, I recon its time to upgrade the Soundcard as well for a Focusrite or similar as all my M-Audio Soundcards would literaly loose there minds on PCs and Macs, flakey drivers would just drop out of the Audiophole Firewire Card, more than I care to mention, so if that happens it could explain why the Time Machine drive drops out also, hmmm, and there was me thinking if I used a Mac it would all be ok. wrong. Would apreciate any qualified input, thanks.

Ok some updates I see, 6 in total including a firmware and security upgrades, also two Native Instruments Updates, Reaktor and Kontakt. I will be testing, this. Before the Updates I managed to peak the CPU load in Logic 9 and was only using 14 tracks, will need to bounce the Synth Plugs and drum tracks and run all the source samples from the Local internal drive a Hitachi 5400rpm drive hmmm :/ will experiment, anyway my Iomega FW drive froze up the Iomega Mac Companion is the correct name for it 2TB 7800rpm but it met it's match or was is the processor? Still sussing it all out. Firewire leads upgrade in effect. testing.. bleep. .

Power Supply Isn't Charging the Battery

This is a rather tricky issue. It's happened before, a few weeks ago, but it had seemed to work itself out and began functioning normally. As I was playing Neverwinter Nights today, the iBook went to sleep. I had the Power Supply plugged in whilst I was playing, assuming that it was charging the iBook. As it was going to sleep, I would try to wake it up only for it to sleep again after a few seconds. I managed to save and exit the game, and I noticed it's at 0%. So I unplug the adaptor and replug it. It continues to go to sleep, so I shut the iBook down.
After a few hours of fiddling with it and checking for information online on my iMac, I managed to get it to charge to about 15%. At this point, I turned the iBook back on and tried to get it to continue charging, but it's slowly been working its way back down to 8% or so ever since.
What's strange is that the 'ring' on the plug lights up as Orange, but it doesn't charge. I've noticed if I leave the iBook and Power Supply plug alone, the charge indicator will sporadically change between 'Battery Life Indicator' to 'Battery Charge Indicator'. It's not like it flickers between the two, but every few seconds or so, it will change from one to the other, but it still steadily drains the battery. I've tried resetting the PMU, but it doesn't seem to have done anything with the situation. I also tried to diagnose if my Power Supply is bad by reading Apple's information pages on it.
One of the troubleshooting documents shows images of bent metal rings on the connector. I looked at mine, and the metal ring is separated at the tip ever so slightly, nowhere near as bad as in the images. I can't figure out what's wrong. Could anybody give me some help?

Resetting older ipod w/o ext. power supply

Are there any ways around using an external power supply to complete a reset on a click-wheel monochrome (or older) ipod.
My kids keep borrowing, and losinf, my power supplies and now I'm stuck!

You can use the 6-pin FireWire port on your computer, or a car adaptor, or an unit such as the iPod Hi-Fi, or try this method to charge the iPod. You can also take it to an Apple Store if one is nearby.

Satellite M30X: fans don't stop if connected to the power supply

I have a M30X and during the last months the fans when I'm connected to the power supply don't stop at all. It also shut down quite often. However the laptop is not warm. Do you have any clue?

If you connect the AC adaptor to the notebook the Toshiba power saver changes the power modes. Possibly the power mode has different settings in the ??basic setup??. Please check the cooling method and change it to lower level.
But of course, the dust and debris could have a bad influence on the fan behavior.

Power Supply GOD

I have a 2004 iBook that needs its power plug replaced. I have had 2 different ones sent to me from applecare. Applecare doesn't know which one to send. Goofy thing is I went by the Apple store and they showed me the right one and kept my old one. When I got home I tried the new one, it didn't work. I returned it and found out my old one had been tossed in the garbage. Now, I don't have a power supply or my old one. Applecare wants the SN off the one that was thrown out. Obvoiusly, I can't do that. Can anyone help with a SN from theirs?

I believe that the serial numbers are unique, so another serial number would probably not be of much help. A model number might be.
However, since the Apple Store kept your old one, and then threw it away, the store bears some responsibility here. You might try speaking to the store manager and ask him or her to speak to Applecare on your behalf and try to resolve your issue.

Have you taken your iBook to the Apple Store so that they can look at it and make sure the fault is with the Power Adaptor? If the problem is actually with the DC In Board, then a replacement power adaptor won't fix it, but Applecare will. With the iBook there, they should be able to try the new adaptor and make sure that it works.

MacBook Pro Retina power supply is surprisingly hot

The power brick seems to get a lot hotter than my previous MacBook Pro power supplies. Anyone else noticing this?

Just got my new 2013 retina MPB, and the powersupply is charging the battery in the MPB at an amazing rate (faster than 1% per minute) but holy Hephaestus batman that power brick gets lava-hot.
This is my 10th Mac laptop (personal) and none of the other power supplies have ever heated up like this. Other Mac laptop power supplies got very hot but never too hot to touch. This retina power supply, at the temp it was at earlier today, would cause burns if left on skin. So hot I am concerned about the plastic melting. Will check but I would not be surprised if when all the lights are off there isn't a slight glow to this lava powered adaptor.
My retina seems to love it and it does not get hot in the least. As i typed this message, the charge went from 40% to 67%. (freekin awesome) and the power supply is very warm but hot yet.
I cannot help but wonder if this is not related to the powersupply on house wiring with the reversed phase... My brick does not get hot all the time and not everywhere I plug it in.

Power supply for HP Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment Notebook PC

I have a HP Pavilion m7-1015dx Entertainment Notebook PC.
The power supply (AC adaptor) that it comes with is HP part number 608428-002.
I also have a different power supply (AC adaptor) that came with a much older HP Pavilion notebook. This older power supply is HP part number 519329-003.
Is the HP Pavilion m7-1015dx compatible with the older power supply (part number 519329-003)?

519329-003 is definitely the right part number. I just double-checked, and that's what's written on the hardware. If you do a google search for "hp part 519329-003", you get a ton of results.
The older HP notebook has another power supply, with HP part number 608428‑002 608428‑002 608428‑002 608428-002. So I know that 608428-002 and 519329-003 are equivalent.
Is the newer notebook (the HP Pavilion m7-1015dx) compatible with the power supply that has HP part number 608428-002?

Hot Powerbook G4 & power supply

My Powerbook G4 15-inch is about 5 or 6 years old, and just recently both the power supply and the computer get very hot when they are plugged in. Both would get hot in the past, but not like this: painful to have on your lap, hot. It is not the battery that is getting hot on the computer - the location of the heat is more under the keyboard and towards the edge of near the screen (and I just bought a new battery for the computer about 4 months ago). I am wondering if this is the early warning of the computer starting a downward decline.

It's the greatest little digital temp monitor that runs at top of screen edge.
I've used it for over a year. This is by far the best one.
I've tried others at Apple that never performed.
After you monitor the heat range of the processor a few times, you will have abetter idea of what to expect.
Viewing video from Youtube, or Apple's training will run the temp up to 151 degrees.
Or converting RAW images in Aperture to file.

Idle, waking up will see temps of 80.
I run a quiet blower moving air under the laptop to help out if I hear laptop fan start.
On lap or other areas, it's easy to block or restrict airflow and it will run hot.
Using a lap pad available online works great. Helps keeping laptop in place as well.
If power supply is running too hot, it's best to just replace it.
There are plenty of reports, including mine made a difference.
Make sure to use the 3 prong grounded power cord adaptor to supply rather than the folding 2 prong adaptor. There is a weak point inside the 2 prong adaptor.
Plug power supply to wall outlet first, then laptop.
When you hear arcing, plugging power supply into wall outlet, this is normal.
Hearing multiple arcs is danger mode.
This arcing can spike laptop if it's plugged in at laptop first if you have sloppy fitting wall outlets
using the flip out 2 prong adaptor.

Sudden Power Supply Problem

Hello. My 17" PowerBook G4 is just over 1 year old. It's been working great until now. Suddenly the battery went dead. When I plugged in the charger, the "charging" light is blinking green. There doesn't appear to be any damage to the charger, plugs, sockets etc. If I "reset" the charger it continues to behave the same. Any ideas?

I'm sorry to say that after playing mix and match with my buddies Powerbook/Battery/PowerSupply for an evening, we pretty much isolated the problem to the PowerBrick. Don't know why it went bad, but it did. I'm going to have to agree with all the reviews/comments that say the PowerBrick is too fragile. On a personal note, I am very dissappointed with Apple for having such a weak link in their chain.
I have replaced the brick with a Kensington A0532 70Watt universal power supply for Apple Laptops and iPods. It works like a charm, and cost the same as a brick, $80. It is white, and comes with 2 different sized laptop plugs, and an adaptor to charge an iPod directly. It has a very long DC cord, but a very very short (1 inch?) AC cord. It works well for my purposes.
A friend of mine has a Targus 90Watt adaptor for the Mac (A14US?) which he loves. His was $120 but came with DC in plugs for the car and airplane.

Suspend has always been problematic under Linux. It seems to be hit or miss for the most part, but here are some things you can try:
Use an LTS kernel, tuxonice, pm-utils, etc. See Suspend and Hibernate
Try a different graphics driver
Tweak the driver module parameters or build your own driver.
Unfortunately I don't have experience with the radeon driver, so I can only give you ideas.
