Power supply compatibility question

I currently have a HP 4250n printer with a broken power supply and an old 4050 HP with a working power supply, I was wondering will the 4250 work with a 4050 power supply in it?
Feedback would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
    I've a WS-C4003 with one WS-C4008 power supply. I've released a Sony APS-111 (CISCO P/N: 34-0873-01) power supply from an old WS-C4006 and i'd like to know if it's compatible with the WS-C4003. It seems that it'll work but I don't find any compatibility document to guarantee it.

    Based on five minutes of research, that power supply has a standard ATX form factor and plugs. Ergo, any generic power supply that is ATX will work. In example:

  • KT3 Ultra2 Power Supply Fan Question

    What is the connector PSFAN1 used for? I thought the Power Supply Fan comes on when you turn on the computer. Seems strange that you would have to route the power through the motherboard....I am sorry for the newbie question. I do have a newer Enermax case that seems to have the correct connector coming from the wiring harness out of the power supply. Do I plug that wire onto the PSFAN1 connector?

    Yeah, you will be fine if your plug it in. I have an enermax as well and it is plugged into my mobo and all is well. There is usually a fan in the bottom of the power supply (facing the cpu) and another on the back. The one in the bottom sucks air away from the cpu and the one in the back sucks the air out. You may want to look and see if there is a fan control on the back of the power supply as some let you control the speed of the out blowing fan. Oh, by the way, I just saw that they have three fan power supplies now!

  • Power Supply Cooling Question

    Well, I've been up and running now for the last week or so with no major issues.
    I'd like to thank all of you that answered my previous questions during my search for parts and helping me put a good plan in place so that the building of this system was painless.
    I have a question though that kind of concerns me.
    I noticed one day that what should be an exhaust from the power supply is not an exhaust at all.  The air flow is actually into the power supply.  I thought this was very unusal.  Years ago I actually did have a power supply that had a fan mounted backwards, but that was some cheap case/ps combo in the P2 days.  
    My power supply in this system is an Enermax EG465P-VE.  I said to myself "no way could it be mounted backwards".  After checking things out very closely I found that when I removed the side case cover, the power supply started exhausting in the right direction.  Put the case cover back on and the air flow went into the power supply again.  Ifinally came to the conclusion that the 120mm fan in the back of the case about 2-3 inches below the power supply was actual exhausting so much air out the case that this 120mm fan was actually drawing air against the power supply's fans and causing a slightly negative flow of air (in the wrong direction) through the power supply.  I hope I have clearly described the situation.  
    What concerns me is that the negative flow results in very little air flowing within the power supply, which could  potentially result in the power supply overheating and failing resulting in a MoBo and processor frying.
    To clarify again, the power supply is trying to push air out, but the 120mm fan is slightly stronger and is more than neutrallizing any flow through the power supply.  
    Just a little more info... I do have one 80mm fan in the front of the case sucking air into the case, blowing over the hard drive.
    There is another spot for a second 80mm fan in the front, but since I'm not over-clocking and really not producing a lot of heat I didn't think I needed two fans in front.
    The only other solution that I can think of is to somehow rig up a verister or sensor on the 120mm fan, but to cover all temperture combinations could result in something very complicated for something that shouldn't be that complicated.
    Maybe someone has noticed the same problem and has a solution.

    When you see the specs on a cooling fan it says so many CFM. But really what it should be saying is how many CFM at a given speed and at a given pressure ratio (exit to inlet pressure ratio). For a given speed the relationship between flow rate and pressure ratio is on a negative slope. That is if you reduce pressure ratio, flow rate goes up and vice versa.
    Using your example suppose I put in two intake fans that on spec each draws 10 CFM and one exhaust fan that does 15 CFM and lets assume that the case is so sealed that air can only enter and leave the case via the intake and exhaust holes. When you turn this system on both intake fans try to pressurise the case but as the case pressure goes up, so does the pressure ratio acrsss the fans. Recall the slope relationship. What happens is that the flow rate drops across the two intake fans. Similarly as the pressure inside the case goes up, it become a lot easier for the exhaust fan to do its job because its pressure ratio is dropping. So what does really happen in this situation? Well the overall system reaches an equilibrium condition where the two fans deliver just enough air that the exhaust fan takes out. You can also consider extreme cases where you have massive intake fans and a weak exhaust fan. In this extreme case you'd be better off by removing the weak exhaust fan because the pressure across it becomes so low that you would not need it. You can take the argument around and make the case for a powerful exhaust fan and obviate the need for an intake fan.
    Then why do we need so many fans if all we need is one powerful exhust or intake fan? This happens because as air enters the case, it follows its least resistance path inside the case. This implies that you may end up with "dead air" areas in some regions of the case which won't be good for heat duild up. Now this does not mean that by a careful rearrangement of the components you would not be able to come up with a configuration that only uses one fan. To that you'd need to use computational flow techniques and mathematically model each component in terms of blockage and the amount of heat being put out. This is quite expensive to do so but this is how its done for the high power computers.

    Hi,
    I have an nc4200 laptop that needs a new power supply.  I chatted with a HP consultant and he said I could use one of the new 90W slim smart adaptors for this, but that has 19.5V output (whereas the original 65W adaptor was 18.5V).  The smart adaptors "Say" they are backwards compatible with all HP business notebooks.  How important is it to match up the voltages?  Can the laptop compensate for +-1 volt differences?  Thanks!

    For voltage, + or - 5%-7% is ok, for wattage 90W is much better than 65W. Should be ok to use new charger.

  • X99S Gaming 9 ACK - power supply compatibility - JPWR2 and JPWR3- Status code 00

    Hello,
    Setting up a newly purchased X99S Gaming 9 ACK, and would appreciate any help.  Can't get past status code 00 and am in debug mode.
    First step in my debug process, I'm trying to confirm power supply requirements.   The board has two 12V input connectors - JPWR2 and JPWR3.  The manual mentions them both.  However, my power supply only has one 12V "EPS12V" cable with an 8 pin connector that can be separated into 4+4. 
    A quick search did not turn up any power supplies that come stock with two 12V cables.  This seemed odd, so I searched for information for JPWR2 and JPWR3 hoping to find something and what turned up was somewhat contradictory.  Some info out there seems to suggest that powering one of the two would be OK if not overclocking.  So I tried that - first just JPWR3, then split the power connector and did just JPWR2, then did JPWR2 and part of JPWR3....and then just to confirm what I thought I was seeing (that 00 status is telling me the CPU's not active) I removed everything from both JPWR2 and JPWR3.  In all cases, the status code was 00.
    So I'm looking to find out how folks with this MB actually working have connected the power.
    Question 1:  Does anyone run it without having both JPWR2 and JPWR3 connected?  If so, what approach do you use?
    Question 2:  Does anyone run it having them both connected?  If so, please let me know what power supply you use.  I am guessing maybe a configurable cable sort could be set up with two 12V lines?
    I know, it's possible with no known-good components (well, the power supply is freshly removed from a happily functioning PC, so it's not suspect) I may have either a bad CPU or a bad MB.  And they are both brand new and eminently returnable.  But I don't want to do that till I know I've got them powered correctly.  I'm relatively confident (well, hopeful) that having the correct power supply setup will let me get past 00 status code and see what else I get to debug.

    Thanks for the input.  Reset CMOS, removed all but the first stick of RAM.  No change.  Status code 00.
    Initial PS was the Corsair TX750W.  I got another power supply to test that has cables to fill both JPWR2 and JPWR3.  No change.  Status code 00.
    So, apparently a DOA Motherboard.  Was afraid of that.  Sending it back to try again.

    I have an original Bondi blue iMac G3. Power supply works OK.
    I have a flower power iMac G3 but the power supply is defunct.
    Can I swop the Bondi 's iMac power supply to the flower power iMac?

    Unfortunately the answer is no. I just checked Mactracker & the Bondi Blue iMac uses a 80 watt power supply. The Flower Power iMac uses a 150 watt power supply. So if you tried to use the Bondi Blue iMac's power supply it probably wouldn't provide enough wattage for the iMac to work properly. I would recommend looking on eBay for a replacement power supply. Some vendors might have one or more in stock.

    i have a an antec psu and it comes with a 3 pin plug for the motherboard, since my motherboard has only 2 3 pin plugs 1 for the HSF and the other one for the system fan. but my mobo dont have a system fan, so can i plug in the 3 pin connector from the psu to the system fan plug?

    I dont think it matters which it 3 pin it is hooked upto.. but I could be wrong. However it is only to monitor the speed of your fans and doesn't draw power like it would if were a sys fan, anyway try it and see if the monitor of your fans works...
     I have a question also simular. I have an Antec550 w/. the front control panel on it. My board is the K7N2-Delta which has a sys fan plugged into the MB and running the xp 2200+ stock heatsink in fan which can only hook to the 3-pin on the MB. The PSU has a three pin which hooks to the MB and is supposed to (when I turn the knob on the front) speed up or slow down my CPU fan.
     The montherboard does not have an extra 3 pin, is there something I can buy that will convert my three pin from my CPU fans to a four pin so I can hook it up directly to my PSU and then hook my PSU to the board to adjust the speed of the fan??
     Or what are my solutions?

  • Satellite C870-11G - AC power adapter compatibility question

    I have a C870-11G.
    It uses power adapter part no PA3917U-1ACA which recently became damaged when someone tripped on the cable and it bent the end which connects to the laptop.
    I used to have a Toshiba C660D-10W a few years ago and still have the power adapter for that laptop, part no PA3714E-1AC3,
    Does anyone know if this is compatible with my C870?
    It seems to fit but I didn't want to try it incase it damages the battery or something.
    Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    On the second pic you can find the same values.
    So both AC adaptors provide the same volt and ampere values and should be compatible.

    I have a MDD dual 867 G4 tower, which I believe was the first model of the MDDs.
    Can I swap in a powersupply from a newer MDD dual 1.25 tower?
    I am just wondering so I know for certain that the pin outs and voltage isn't going to fry my motherboard.

    I have a Power Mac G4 (mirrored doors) that won't start; the fan doesn't spin, so I suspect the power supply died.
    Does anyone have suggestions about where to buy one? Does it have to be an Apple power supply?

  • Advanced Mini-Dock 250410U power supply and compatibility questions.

    I just purchased a new T400 2764-CTO which has the discrete video.  I replaced a three year old T43 with a screen that failed.  Lenovoi told me my two port replicators for the T43 would work on the T400.  That proved to be an error.  So now I am in the market for a T400 port replicator.  I am looking at the Lenovo Thinkpad Advanced Mini-Dock 250410U.  I have purchased two power supplies and so do not need another power supply.  I don't trust Lenovo for an accurate answer.
    My questions: Can I purchase an Advanced Mini Dock without the power supply?  And secondly, will this Mini-dock work with the T400 2764-CTO.  (I am running Vista Business as my sole OS.)

    yes, 250410U is the correct part number for the advanced mini dock compatible with the T400.
    it is sold with an a/c adapter and unfortunately cannot be purchased separately.   you could, however, resell the adapter if you don't want it.   forum.thinkpads.com has a free marketplace if you're interested.

  • W520 power supply rating vs. performanc​e question

    I have had a W520 with the i2820 processor option and the quadro 1000 video for over 3 weeks now. I bought several spare 170 watt power bricks for it, but in one location I kept the 135 watt brick from my W510.
    When I moved from the w500 to the w510, when I used a 90 watt w500 brick, the w510 would boot with a BIOS level message that said that the power supply was not adequate and that the machine would be stepped down to a slower speed. The reduction in performance was dramatic and noticable. (The w510 had the 45 watt consumption i920 chip and the more power hungry graphics)
    When I use or boot the w520 with the 135 watt supply, there is no message. My benchmarks do not change from those registered when on the 170 watt power supply, starting with the Win 7 system benchmarks for processor and video. Further, the 135 watt brick is cooler to the touch than the 170 watt one under sustained usage (3 hours plus).
    The question: given that the w520 in my configuration seems to draw less power than the hot and hungry w510, is the 135 watt supply going to work "as well as" the 170 watt one? As a briefcase lugger, any way to shed weight is valued.
    Other considerations: I have no WWAN card installed, and have the CD/DVD removed and substituted with an SSD. The main drive is also SSD, bringing down somewhat the power requirements.

    I remember another post, that I can't seem to find now, which refers to a software utility that displays wattage being consumed by the system.  This would be quite helpful.
    Couldn't that be used to study what is being used, and how much of a power adapter is needed to operate the system?
    I am trying to come up with a solution for vehicle usage, and I am afraid, it will have to be a 12V to 120v power inverter with a brick plugged into it.
    Another factor will be the amount of power consumed when recharging the internal 9cell battery and the external 9cell slice. Doing this while operating the system with WiFi / WWAN active will increase the demand.

  • Adding third party video card to P700 - no power connectors? New Power Supply Question...

    I have a new P700 30A90012US with a 650W PSU and that didn't come with a video card. I am planning to use it as a DAW and for occasional gaming via a dual boot.
    I wanted to put in a third party video card like a nVidea 970 but there aren't ANY connectors for video cards that I can find inside. The monitor I have is a 3440x1440 monitor. I have ordered a second 2609 Processor and RAM from Lenovo and have the following questions:
    Once I install the second processor, how much wattage for a video card is available to me?
    I understand that the 3rd party video card isn't supported but how do I attach power to it?
    If it is required that I have to replace the 650 power supply with an 850, does it come with the required cable? I only see a 4 pin connector on the mobo that is unused (and I believe it is for additional hdd)
    I tried searching but I am at a loss.

    Your config isn't really power hungry (and the 85W CPUs help a lot).  Though technically outside of the official spec, I think you could easily go to a 225W card for graphics if you had the connectors available to support it.  I'll double check the current when I get a chance, but it's probably really low risk if you want to convert your single 6-pin connector to dual 6-pin or a single 8-pin (via a dongle) to get to 225W TDP if you wanted to.
    The PSU design is very modular, but unfortunately it's the aux power cable drops that kept it from being an easy field upgradable part.  I always recommend that people buy the larger PSU if they ever think they'll be doing any upgrades in the future just to make sure they are covered.
    And like I said if you're comfortable working inside the system, it's not impossible to upgrade that cable drop on your own if you want to go up to the 850W.  You'd have to get the cable and PSU, but after that it would require removing the motherboard and PSU, cutting some cable ties and routing the new cable, then getting everything routed correctly such that the motherboard reinstalls cleanly.

  • Power supply question or Firewire issue

    I have a workhorse Dual g4 with three internal video drives, three self powered Firewire drives and an internal Gina audio card. Recently I added a USB2 internal card and swapped my Viewsonic LCD for an Apple where the power is coming off the video cable. For the last 2 days my Firewire drives got balky. They mount but when I try to open them I get the interminable spinning beach ball. So far I am able to connect the FW drives to my G4 laptop and they seem to mount ok.
    Am I asking too much from the power supply or is this a fair load?
    Could the Firewire have failed.
    Last week I had a high whine and lockup (heat related?) It's been funny ever since.
    Is there an app that gives the status of the hardware?

    The XServe power supplies (like most modern systems) are rated for 100-240V, so will accept any input voltage in that range.
