Power Supply GOD

I have a 2004 iBook that needs its power plug replaced. I have had 2 different ones sent to me from applecare. Applecare doesn't know which one to send. Goofy thing is I went by the Apple store and they showed me the right one and kept my old one. When I got home I tried the new one, it didn't work. I returned it and found out my old one had been tossed in the garbage. Now, I don't have a power supply or my old one. Applecare wants the SN off the one that was thrown out. Obvoiusly, I can't do that. Can anyone help with a SN from theirs?

I believe that the serial numbers are unique, so another serial number would probably not be of much help. A model number might be.
However, since the Apple Store kept your old one, and then threw it away, the store bears some responsibility here. You might try speaking to the store manager and ask him or her to speak to Applecare on your behalf and try to resolve your issue.
I assume that you are referring to the power adaptor? Here is an article that may help identify what you need:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1565
Have you taken your iBook to the Apple Store so that they can look at it and make sure the fault is with the Power Adaptor? If the problem is actually with the DC In Board, then a replacement power adaptor won't fix it, but Applecare will. With the iBook there, they should be able to try the new adaptor and make sure that it works.
Good luck!

  • Power supply upgrade HP Pavilion p7-1423w

Hello forum! I have an HP Pavilion p7-1423w.  Looking for a power supply upgrade that can accomodate more than one hard drive and/or SSD and more than one DVD/BD player. Don't want to add any adapters. (Last inline adapter I got from HP literally caught FIRE and destroyed my previous PC!)
Anyone know any compatible power supplies I can use that come with plugs I'm seeking?
Also, if I do add an SSD, is there anyway of having it run the operating system? (Make it the primary drive?)
    Thanks if anyone can help.

  • HP 6654 upgrade video card/power supply

I am interested in upgrading my video card from a current ATI Radeon HD 4200 to a "EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SuperSC ACX 2.0+ 2GB GDDR5 128bit, PCI-E 3.0 Dual-Link DVI-I, 3 x DP, HDMI, SLI, HDCP, G-SYNC Ready Graphics Cards 02G-P4-2966-KR".  Will this graphics card fit for my cpu and work correctly with the motherboard?
I will be adding 4additional giggabites to increase the total instaled memory (RAM) to 8GB as well.
And in addition, i will purchase a 400 watt power supply.
Will this work for my current Pavilion 6654?

You are very welcome!  Thank you for the additional information.
As I suspected, your computer has a standard BIOS.  This means that you will have to buy an older video card.  I like EVGA products.  I suggest finding a card that you like and contacting the manufacturer's Tech Support (EVGA Tech Support 1-888-880-3842) to make certain that it will work in your computer.  This is the best way that I have found to not have to make a return.  The last card that EVGA made that used a standard BIOS was their GT 640.  Some of theirs do have an update for the VBIOS that allows them to run with a standard BIOS.
Now, for the power supply unit (PSU).  I like Corsair products.  I normally recommend at least 500W.  This allows for future upgrades.  A modular PSU is good for smaller cases.  You only have to use the cables that are necessary, allowing for better airflow.  You should measure the existing PSU and compare the measurements to the one that you choose.  All of the connectors should be compatible.

  • Can I put a new graphics card and power supply in my computer.

Hey all, I have the P7-1459 comp and it is good, but i was hoping to maybe give it a gaming boost. But i havent been able to find out if it could handle what i want to do. The new Graphics card would require a 450W power supply and i dont know if this comp could handle it. Anyone know one way or another? Need some help.

    Joshua, you are very welcome!
I am sorry that I misunderstood your question.  I thought that you wanted to know if the computer would handle the card.
Yes, you can upgrade the power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and comparing those measurements to the one that you choose.  I like OCZ and Corsair.  They will provide enthusiast quality with a reasonable price.  A good video card requires clean, stable power.  I recommend at least 500W; 550W to 600W would be even better.  This would allow for some future upgrades.  The computer only uses the amount of power needed to run the components.
    I hope this helps.

  • Mac Pro 8-core Power Supply Making Humming Noise That Comes And Goes

This is in reference to a Mac Pro 3,1 8-core purchased around Feb 2008.
Lately, I've noticed a strange noise coming from my power supply that sounds like the noise a refrigerator radiator makes. It's a humming noise that rapidly comes and goes, constantly.
The power supply fan speed is running at 599rpm
I'm not sure if the problem could've been caused by adding additional ram (12GB, OWC) or an additional HDD (3rd HDD, WD), but I didn't really notice the noise until after adding these components.
What could be the cause of this problem? What are my repair options if necessary (without Apple Care)?
    Thanks in advance.

I know for a fact it is not any of my hard drives because the noise is becoming more frequent no matter what hard drive I use, I actually have a 1.5tb, a 1tb, two 500gb and two 320gb drives, I have set an appointment to take my system in and have it tested, it is starting to crash 5-6 times a day. I can not get a lot of work done with this annoying spinning noise and the shutting down. Thank god for my Apple care, and I have visited various forums that lead me to believe its the power supply going out, with the symptoms it is having. This article and others like it explain what to look for when a power supply is going bad.

  • POWER SUPPLY info needed for GRAPHICS CARD UPGRADE!!!

I have a HP PAVILION p6631p and ide like to add a graphics card, but I was told I had to upgrade my power supply.

I was looking at the CORSAIR BRAND power supplies and tried emailing them to help me find the right power supply, but they said they needed to know what type of power supplies HP use in this model PC.
I didnt know what to do so im hoping someone can help me out with this information CORSAIR is asking for so they can help select me the right power supply for my PC.

You were told correctly.  You will have to upgrade the power supply unit (PSU) for the video card to work properly.
The PSU in the computer is a standard ATX.  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and comparing the measurements to the one you choose.
I normally suggest at least 500W, but 600W is better for future upgrades.  Here is a PSU that should work for you. It is 650W and is an Enthusiast series.  This means that it has all of the power that you will need.  It is 5.9" (W) x  3.4" (H) x 6.3" (L).

If I understand your problem correctly, this is the connector that you need.  It converts a single SATA power cable to two connectors.  This allows you to connect two drives with on cable.  There are many other brands available on Newegg.  This is just one example.

  • Power supply chord Smoking???

Hey, so over the past two weeks, the end of my power chord (not the metal tip but where it attaches to the chord) has started fraying. (i don't have any animals either.) I called into Apple and I was told if I didn't want to buy a new one (I don't exactly have 80 bucks to drop on a new power supply especially when my computer is not even a year old), to just cover it in electrical tape. It sounded a little dumb but I didn't want exposed wires and I am not exactly a genius. So then last week I noticed if I left it plugged in say overnight to charge it started smelling funny. I took of the tape and saw it was melting. I seriously wish I was kidding. Last night (thank god my roommate noticed) it started smoking. So. Does this normally happen to these power supplies?
Ah. I am so sick of my iBook having problems, I don't know if I will ever seriously invest in another Apple computer again. Seriously, between this and my computer turning brown/gray/orange (and being accused of being a cheeto eater when it was clearly an Apple manufacturing fault.) If I go to the Apple Store and show them the chord is it a possibility that I can get a new one or one at a lower cost? If my warranty is expired (I'm not sure if it is or isn't) then do I have to pony up for a brand new one? Has this happened to anyone else?

    Hi LLamaLLama
    Welcome to Discussions
That power cord is definitely too young to start smoking.
Depending on where you live, if your computer is less than a year old, your power supply will still be covered under warranty.
Take it in, with your receipt, and calmly explain its fault. Your warranty should cover poor workmanship, and besides it is dangerous.
    Good luck.
    regards roam

Since I don't know the model of the computer I can't review the specifications.  However, if the power supply unit (PSU) fits into the computer, it will not cause any problems.  The computer will only use the amount of wattage that is required to run it properly.  The extra wattage will be used for peak power needs.  So, it is alright to use the PSU in the computer.

The computer should take a standard ATX power supply unit (PSU).  I suggest measuring the existing PSU and compare the measurements to the one in the links.  If the measurements are the same, it should fit.  I don't know anything about the brand, however.

Here is a guide to help you troubleshoot the power supply unit (PSU).  If the PSU has failed, here is a guide to help you replace it.
Here is a 300W PSU replacement for your computer.  I don't know anything about the company, however.  It would be good to check them out before buying from them.
I don't believe that you would see enough performance increase to upgrade the video card.  There are only two, what looks like, PCI Express x1 slots on the motherboard; no PCI Express x16 slot.  The more components, the more heat that is generated.  A small case gets much hotter than a larger case.  This is hard on components.
