Power supply & gpu upgrade advice for s5-1250d

I'm looking to upgrade the power supply & graphics card on my HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1250d
Product no.:H1M79AA#AB4
OS:Win7 Home Premium SP1
Motherboard:Joshua-H61-uATX, Chipset: Intel H61, Memory sockets: 2 x DDR3
I'm looking to upgrate to a power supply with at least 500W, and preferably a Radeon R9 270; so any motherboard  compatibility issues should I lookout for?

Hi,
I don't know if there exists a 500 watt power supply that will work in your PC. How do you expect to handle all of the heat generated in a very small cabinet?

  • What power supply do I need for a dead AGP G4 with upgraded processor

I recently upgraded my 400Mhz G4 to a dual 500Mhz board and a bigger, faster HD. I also replaced the internal battery but now the Mac... she is dead. No power, no lights, no nothing.
Will I need an upgraded power supply for the new board, or is it just old and time for a replacement power supply.
I found this on Ebay... will it work?
"This 237W Astec power supply (Apple part# 614-0108) is a clean, working pull from a revision 2 Power Mac G4 AGP Graphics/Sawtooth series computer (e.g. 350/400/450/500 MHz single processor) and will also work perfectly in previous models as well. "
    Thanks!
    AGP G4, Dual 500, 768Mb RAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi,
The AGP Sawtooth Mac can be switched to an ATX PSU. Later models (Gigabit G4, Digital Audio, Quicksilver and later) have a different power supply and motherboard that passes 28 Volts DC from the power supply to a connector for the ADC port graphics card. (28 VDC is passed to the Graphics card ADC port to power Apple's ADC monitors, introduced in Summer 2000 MWNY.) A standard PC ATX Power Supply does not have 28V DC and will not be pin compatible with the Gigabit G4 and later G4 systems.
Here are some DIY web pages, if you are interested in doing this:

Sorry for the long copy and paste. I read that I can upgrade the video card and power supply. But atm when I play world of warcraft at ultra settings, I tend to lag really bad in the new instances with the new cat expansion that came out. I wanted to know if I should upgrade the video card and power supply for better performance or just upgrade my whole pc tower.  Fyi, I am running a Acer X243w lcd flat panel monitor if that helps too.

My brother has a high end laptop with a built in, high end gaming video card (I forget which one). He's able to run the game on full-on Ultra.
I have an integrated video card which games the game on.. 'cartoon'.. mode. It's lower then low. When someone shoots a powerful spell at me, I go into a DOS Prompt. (not really, but it's pretty bad).
Funny thing is, I can still kick my brother's butt in any PVP match he wants to set up.
But I guess his graphics are pretty....
As for which video card works best, I'd have to do some research. After that graphics update they did with CAT,  it's kind of a toss up again.

  • New power supply and graphic card for Compaq CQ3232L

    Hi all,
I am using Compaq CQ3232L and would like to upgrade the graphic card with one of the HD 5770, Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X 1Gb 128Bit DDR5 to be exact.
My current power supply (Bestec Model ATX01...) specs are:
    +12V/11A, peak 13A
    +5V/10A, +3.3V/10A,
    -12V/0.3A, 180W according the manual.
I've been looking a replacement for the power supply but not sure which one will fit the case? And how much power will be need to run the Sapphire card and future upgrade (Blu-Ray drive and another HDD)?
    Regards,
    Eko

WSH, besides measuring the PSU, you should assure that there is sufficient space for the video card.  Open the case.  Measure from the edge of the case to the opposite side of the motherboard where the PCIE slot is located.  This is the approximate length of the card that will fit.
Also, I like OCZ and Corsair PSU's.  They are both enthusiast/gamer manufacturers.  Their products will provide clean, stable power for your system.

  • Is this Power Supply and case right for my PC?

    Pals...
Here I go again with a brand new question.
I want to buy a new case with the Power supply Unit in it and I have come to the decision of buying them separately.
My machine at the moment is made up of...
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor Socket 939
    MSI K8N Neo-4 Platinum Socket 939 motherboard
MSI NX GeForce 6600GT 128 Mb PCI-E VGA card (connected thru the PCI-E, actually)
    2 521 Mb Kingston DDR Memory 400 - 3200
1 120 GB Western Digital HD PATA (with OS: Windows XP Professional SP2)
1 120 GB Seagate HD PATA (with files only)
    1 Pioneer 109 DVD-RW
    1 Pioneer 111D DVD-RW
    1 generic Floppy
Anyway, this is the Case I want to buy

  • What does a gpu upgrade do for fcs2...

I've been wondering if upgrading stock MacPro 2008 would help. I'm also wondering if the new 10.5.3 update has a driver that delivers better performance for the mac upgrade gpu from nvidia(i believe it's the 8800gt)...
I've noticed stuttered playback on various 3rd party filter. Would also like to start using motion for green screen and color cc...

  • Searching Dock with for Power supply and Audio Out for iPhone 3GS

    Hello,
I am rather new to Apple stuff but I now have an iPhone 3GS which I would like to use with my Yamaha Pianocraft.
The Yamaha has an optional iPod Dock. As far as I know, this would allow me to do things like pause, next track etc. via the Yamaha remote. However, I don't really need this and I would also like to be able to play audio from apps such as internet radio apps (e.g. 977)
So the Yamaha also has an AUX/Audio In connector on the back where I can simply connect my iPhone 3GS. Then I will just hear everything not through the iPhone speakers but through the Yamaha A/V Receiver.
However, this option would require me to have a cable connect at the top (headphone jacket) and at the bottom (connector for power supply), which does not look that good.
So I would like to have an iPhone 3GS dock that provides audio out as well as power supply. I have found three products for this (German Sites because I live in Germany):
    Apple iPhone 4 Dock:
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MC596ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTgxNTkwOTg
    Apple Universal Dock:
    http://store.apple.com/de/product/MB125G/C?fnode=MTY1NDAzOQ&mco=MTA4NDc4NDA
    Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.de/Dockingstation-Apple-iPhone-Audio-Out-wei%C3%9F/dp/B003UP77 HQ/ref=wlit_dpo?ie=UTF8&coliid=I18C98SXGWLNIF&colid=29EKL14S3VRAN
As far as I am aware, the iPhone 4 Dock from Apple cannot be used with the iPhone 3GS. Is that correct? Is there any solution or an "iPhone 3GS Dock" available?
Can these docks also provide the audio from apps via audio out?
I hope you can help me.

Well on the backsite this product has audio out but not power, only the iphone connector.
If I want to use this station in one place only and not for syncing, I will have to buy another iPhone USB cable and another wall to USB adapter (altough I have come at home from other products).
Is there no dock that will not require some special iPhone cable?

  • Hardware Upgrade Advice for HD editing and CS4

    Dear friends,
I realize that there are many posts on hardware requirements, recommendations, etc... Perhaps this is my problem, there is too much info.
Here is my scenario and I would love some expert advice.
    What I Have:
I have been editing my home movies since Premiere 6.5 and have been using CS3 for the past couple of years.
My current PC is an HP 9100t which has a ...
    Quad Core 6600 2.4GHz processor
3GB RAM (max RAM is 8GB according to the stats for the motherboard)
    500 GB System Drive
I recently added a 1.5 TB SATA Seagate Barracuda drive
Also have external 1TB WD connected via USB
Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit) OS
    What I Just Got:
Recently purchased a Sony HDR-XR 500v and just love the HD picture quality. But now I want to edit the AVCHD files and thus upgrade to CS4
    What I'd like to Know:
I'm tired of buying a new PC every couple of years, this machine is 16 months old and runs just fine.
Do you think I can upgrade the processor, add RAM and move to Windows 7 64-bit and happily edit my HD movies?
Or, do I need to once again try and convince my wife to let me buy a new PC
My Upgrade thoughts:  I could Buy these items...
Intel Quad Core 9600 processor  2.8Ghz (the HP motherboard supports the Intel Yorkfield processors)
Max out the RAM at 8GB
Upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit (I actually pre-ordered this for $49 a few weeks ago)
and of course upgrade to Premiere CS4
DO you think a few hundred dollars spent on upgrades will extend my editing life for another year or two?
    Thanks so much!
    Paul

but I was surprised to see you comment that it's pointless to upconvert video before working on it.
It can easily be you misunderstood my intention. It is somewhat like people often thinking that converting from a compressed format to a lossless format will restore the original quality. That is nonsense, because what has been thrown away during compression, can never be regained by uncompressing. That is an expectation similar to orange juice being uncompressed will restore the original oranges.
My intention with my remark was to emphasize that going from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 will not restore original data or improve the image, only increase storage requirements.
But clearly that is not what you meant. You are talking about chroma keying and similar being best done on 4:2:2 or even better on 4:4:4 material. You are completely correct, but keep in mind, and that is what I tried to convey, is that starting out from 4:2:0 and upconverting to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 will not restore original quality, it will still be (slightly less than) the 4:2:0 quality, because of the rounding errors in the algorithms. You will increase storage space significantly by this upconverting, but if you want to do any chroma keying,  the quality of the keys will be significantly better than when performed on 4:2:0 material and the loss when again converting to 4:2:0 for final delivery will be significantly less than had you used chroma keys on 4:2:0 material.
I hope this explains it somewhat.

  • Upgrade advice for Mac Pro early 2008 needed

I've upgraded to 14 GB ram but my old 2008 Mac Pro (2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-core) now definitely needs replacing. As I want to keep my high end NEC monitor (I work with print design and don't like glossy screens) I wonder if a new Mac Pro is the only realistic option? They're a bit above my budget really but not sure that the top end Mac mini (2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7) will be a lot more powerful than what I have now.
I'm working mainly in the Adobe creative suite. Any advice much appreciated.

Just canceled the order. However I finally got to speak to a tech support guy that seemed a bit more knowledgeable. For less money, and (he said) a better way to go, he recommended the Mercury Accelsior_E2
PCI Express SSD. The 120 GB is $299.
    Specs here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe/OWC/Mercury_Accelsior/Buy_Now
I'll look into the Tempo Pro and compare. Grant mentions that some users have been having trouble getting a PCIe SSD mounted strategy to boot consistently - that concerns me. Grant, can you point me to reports? How have you come by this info?
Hatter - I probably will only use one SSD to get me through the next year or two. Then I'll upgrade. Hatter, the Tempo Pro appears to only be a card adapter, and the SSDs are addtional, correct? The card itself runs $234.
I am looking at the MacRumors review of the OWC and Tempo products too.

  • Gpu upgrade for MT 5750, supporting win 10 and 300w psu

MS says ATI hasn't upgraded drivers for Windows 10 on my Hp dc5750 MT. Can someone suggest a pci express board not needing more than 300w power supply, and upgraded to Win 10. Thanks.

I never understood the use and need of software clearly other then it would help if your GPU was not strong enough.
However any GPU with 1 GB VRAM is bound to be sufficient for the tasks needed in PS and Bridge.
I have both system and applications as well as cache and files installed on one large SSD (PCI based SSD 960 GB)
My cache is building much faster then before using HDD and I used checked using both Loupe (almost never used) and space bar full screen (often used) and then tried to build a 100 % preview with clicking the cursor on the point I want to check.
Both occasions where timed with an average of 1,5 to 2 seconds per 100 % preview. If you have a thousand then this is to much but who needs to judge 1000 this way when having already a very good quality full screen for the first selection?
If you need that much it is worth applying 100 %  on import and when having made the selection manual dump the full (100 %) cache file from that folder to save space.
BTW, I use DNG files converted from EOS 1Dx, about the same size as your files. Using Photodownloader for this task, renaming, converting, back up and adding metadata template.
It takes a while but I usually let it work in the background having also Bridge open and pointed to the folder where the files are imported to so the cache is already build ( using always HQ and generate monitor sized previews) when the last file is being imported. (and with working on others I mean no heavy duty tasks as rendering films or watching DVD - GPU task - but mostly mail or internet, sometimes a bit PS, again, Bridge is a high demanding application when caching images.. )

  • Help buying new GPU and power supply

Hello to everyone, I am new at the forum and also kind on new at buying gaming equipment for my pc.
Right now I am using a pc which I bought a year and a half ago but with the new games coming out I am starting to need an upgrade for my pc.
    My actual gear is:
    Motherboard MSI Z87 G45
    NVIDIA GTX 650 2Gb
    Power supply 600W
    8 GB RAM
    1 TB HD
    thermaltake mk1 chaser
Sorry if my questions are kind of...stupid...I am thinking of buying the new GTX 970 4Gb GPU, buying an other 8Gb RAM and also getting a SSD, but the thing is that I dont know a few things:
    1. Can I use that GPU on my actual motherboard?
    2. Which power supply will I need for all this?
    3. Would you make an other change to my PC?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Also sorry for my english, I did my best at this

    Hi
Your PSU should be ok with GPU.
Yes, RAM should be identical. But even if you buy 2 separate kits of same brand, name, model, timings etc etc it may not work fine.
So preferably single kit. Like this:
As if you buy 2 separate sticks (like this):
Then you might have issues. In your case, you would be doing second option which is asking for trouble. For this, best to ask your RAM vendor for replacement once you buy another 8GB RAM stick.

  • Looking to upgrade the video card and power supply in the K330

Hello, I'm looking to upgrade the power supply and video card in the Lenovo IdeaCentre K330 but I need to know if these parts will be accepted by the mobo.
Here's the card name (no link, don't know if theres a restriction to off site links) ASUS 2GB GDDR5 DIGI+ VRM technology Graphics Cards HD7770-2GD5
The power supply name follows: Xion High Performance 1000 Watt ATX Power Supply XON-1000P14F
Thanks for reading, and extra thanks for a good reply

Thanks for replying, I have looked into other PSU's and came up with this: XFX PRO750W Core Edition 80+ Bronze ATX 750 Energy Star Certified Power Supply
Feedback? And main question is, will they both (video card and PSU) be compatible with the motherboard that come standard in the K330?
I don't really have a need for the front panel except the power, and backontrack buttons.
Also, the reason why I'm getting a high wattage PSU is because I might later decide to build my own PC with the upgraded parts, and put the old parts back into the K330

  • Is my power supply enough for an athlon xp 2000+?

Hi, I have a TurboLink 350W powersupply, it came with my case, AND I'D LIKE TO KEEP IT
I have a Athlon 1.1ghz rite now, and i want to upgrade to an Athlon XP 2000+, and i was wondering, my power supply should be enough for that, right??
    +3.3/24A
    +5/35A
    +12/12A
im not sure about the +12, but look at Dell.  My dad has a 4600 w/P4 2.4 + Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO, and dell only ships with 250W power supplies!! and P4's use more power than Athlon Xp's, and i dont have a radeon...i have a FX5200.  My dad even has SATA, so....i think my 350 is fine, but i dont want to pull my hair out [STRIKEOUT]if[/STRIKEOUT] my athlon doesnt work and i think its the motherboard or something, when its the P.S...., so.

    Quote
    3. My Dad has a Dell Dimension 4600 w/250W Power Supply
I'll tell you how that is powered with that crappy PSU.
    1. Dell sells computers.
    2. They have an average 1 year warrentty.
    3. When they quit, see No. 1
A few years back, my mother bought an E-Machine (AKA: the green E of death) that came with a 185W PSU. The PSU has already gone out once, and due to the way it mounts, there was nothing more powerful that would fit in that case, so I replaced the crappy PSU with another crappy ($20) 185W PSU. Next time the PSU fails, I'll pull the drives, and toss the case/mobo, and start over.
As for Antec PSU's, well, look at my sig, you will notice I have a 300W Antec. While it is rather weak, the KT266A/KM266 chipset boards and eariler, generally do not power everything except memory from the 12V rail.
While other manufacturers still use the 3.3V and 5V rail to power most of the board, the 12V rail will soon be the most used rail on almost all motherboards.

  • Will this power supply work for this tower?

I plan on getting this computer
    LINK
I feel like everything on the computer is adequate but the power supply is only 300W. I need more than this so I plan on using this power supply to upgrade it.
    POWERSUPPLY
Can anyone tell me if this powersupply will fit and perform with the desktop I listed. Also if it does not, is there any suggestions as to what similar Watt power supply will work?
    Thanks

Unless, for some reason, Asus didn't use the ATX form factor for that case, that power supply should work fine.
Unless you are upgrading other parts, hockey's concerns aren't warranted. A power supply that is "too big" is never a problem, it's actually better for the power supply because it runs at a lower load. And, the rails on that ThermalTake can manage higher amps than the stock one can, guaranteed.
It's tough to max out a 850watt PSU in a mid-size tower like that.

  • I have a HP Pavilion a6603w. I want to upgrade power supply to run powerful graphic card. Suggest

I have a HP pavilion a6603w desktop model number FK555AA-ABA a6603w.  I have a low to mid level graphics card, which is the most that my power supply will handle.
I want to get a stronger power supply to run a high end graphics card with a self cooling fan.  Can anyone suggest an excellent, reliable power supply brand and model that will fit into my desktop case with minimum fuss?  I am not tech savy but I have replaced my video card and hard drives with no problem.
    Thanks,
    Lugnut

Hello lugnut1204, I checked the specifications for your system and is appears the system shipped with a 250 power supply. The dimensions for this power supply are 5 15/16 inches wide, 5.5 inches long, and 3 3/8 inches tall. Since your system is a MicroATX version, you would be slightly limited to a power supply of the same size as the original power supply.
Here  is a link to Newegg where a Corsair 600 watt power supply can be found with almost the exact same physical size as you original 250 watt version. The Corsair power supply dimensions are 5.9 inches wide, 5.5 inches long, and 3.4 inches tall.
If you get a power supply too long, it may interfer with the back of the CD\DVD drives.
You would need to locate a video card that you wanted and make sure the power supply requirements were less than the 600 watt Corsair model. Most of the mid to higher end cards require at leaset a 400 to 500 watt or greater power supply.
