Hello Alex,
We're just other users here, & I don't consider it likey, but if AppleCare can't help, ask to speak to customer service, also, no idea on EU consumer laws that I hear are a bit better than over here.

I cannot afford to buy nor do I need a faster and more powerful iMac. My G3 iPhone accidently went swimming the other day (and died) after I had already ordered a new iPhone 5 which hasn't arrived yet.
My bottom line question is ; Do I have to buy a new iMac to be able to use my new iPhone 5. Thanks, Ted

My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) will not play DVDs.
My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009, purchased new from an Apple store) will not play DVDs. When I attempted to open the DVD Player file in Utilities I got the following error message: ‘A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]’ I've downloaded nearly every software update that Apple has notified me has come available. It's been several years since I last used the CD/DVD player, but i was quite surprised and unhappy today when it spat out every DVD I inserted. Anyone know how I can resolve this problem?
Hi there,
Your machine should be supported, the requirements for Mountain Lion are:
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
You must also have:
OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Also, you might like to try unplugging any external drives, and backup ones, and try again.

1. 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
I have an iMac 20 inch early 2009 software osx 10.8.1(12b19)...i am not able to use my internet, outlook, or any messenger. tried troubleshooting, reseting safari, disabling norton firewall, deleted intego...still no internet. i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem. everytime i try to open safari it displays this: Safari can't open the page: "http://www.yahoo.com/". the error is: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1)
Like nearly all antivirus utilities for OS X, Norton a/k/a Symantec and Intego are worthless junk that will cripple your Mac. Remants of one or both are most likely preventing Safari from communicating.
Search the forums for techniques to eradicate them - simply disabling them or dragging their apps to the Trash is not likely to be sufficient. Start by reading this procedure from Symantec:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103489
For Intego: http://support2.intego.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=214
... i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem.
I believe you are correct. Download and run its uninstaller. -
Power supply from iMac through FireWire
Dear all,
The user's manual of my iMac G5 writes: "The FireWire port is designed to provide power for FireWire devices (up to a total of 8 Watts)".
How does this work? Can I operate my DV camera or external HD through it? What do I need to activate this service?
LacmacLaszlo-
The only products that I know of that tap into that power supply are flash memory card readers and (physically) small hard drives. You do not need to do anything to "activate" the service-it is just available at all times on a couple of the pins on the six conductor firewire connector.
Video cameras use the firewire port to transfer video information and control the camera functions. Video cameras use their own power supply brick or battery for juice. I do not think that the 4 pin cable that plugs into the video camera end has juice on it.

How to check the power supply? iMac G3 233
How to do it?
Can i just take the case with the mainboard out and "short" the pins Power on (pin 8) with GND and check the voltages on the connector that comes out of the monitor case?
I know that the pin 8 is the power from articles about imac>atx case conversion. And i know that you can power up a normal ATX power supply by shortening two pins, and want to know if i can do the same with iMAc power supply. I don't want to fry anything.Sounds like you have eliminated most of the possibilities, other than power supply board or motherboard. But it may also be the CPU daughter card that is faulty. I had one (233 MHz) that would run Mac OS 9 just fine, but it was unable to run Mac OS X reliably (crashes and freezes after a few minutes). I replaced it first with a 333 MHz G3 card off of eBay and later with a 467 MHz G4 card from the Fastmac booth at MacWorld San Francisco two years ago.
If you are comfortable disassembling the iMac to the point of removing the power supply board, you can layout the PS board and the carrier assembly (the thing you pull out with the motherboard, CPU card, and drives) on a table top. Then connect the power supply board to the carrier assembly, and connect the external power cord plug to the power supply board, and connect a keyboard with a power button to the carrier.
To measure the voltages, you can disconnect the 4-pin connector to the hard drive. If you turn it on using the power button on the keyboard, it will not start up with the hard drive not powered up (unless you use a bootable CD), but the system should be powered so that you can take your measurements.
Hope that works. Be careful with the exposed back end of the CRT. Keep any curious cats out of the room while you do this...
In case you don't have the PDF of the tray-loader iMac tech manual, it is downloadable here.

IMac 20-inch Early 2008 - Can't Print to Tape
Hi everyone,
I'm using an early 2008 iMac 20-inch model, and I'm having issues with the Firewire 400 port. I have tried using Windows Movie Maker and Sony Vegas 8 Pro and both can't export my clips to my Sony PD-150 camera. All I get is a black screen, no video and sound. Both applications was able to control the camera to pre-roll the DV tape for transfer, but nothing is shown on both camera and computer. It just rolls on and on with nothing transferred.
I have changed my firewire cable twice, checked my PD-150 camera settings and it is set correctly, as my other DELL computer was able to export successfully.
Anyone has any idea how to get the iMac to export the video thru the firewire in a Windows XP SP3?
Info on what i have done:
- Installed all bootcamp drivers from iMac 10.5 disc.
- Installed all available patches for Windows XP SP3.
- Installed Dot Net 3.5 SP1 framework.
Sincerely,
Joe

I'm still stuck with trying to solve this. Any help is appreciated.
I have purchased a Sonnet 800-to-400 firewire adapter, and it still doesn't work.

New internal power supply and iMac still not powering up
I recently purchased a new internal power supply for my Intel iMac and after being installed by a local Mac repair shop it still will not power up.
Are there any other issues that could cause an iMac not to start up? The logic board?I did try to reset the PRAM and SMC before the iMac went completely kaput. But now, even with a new power supply, it won't even turn on. Maybe my replacement power supply is damaged somehow. But the repair shop said my original power supply looked like it was in good condition. Maybe they can test the original one somehow?
So my question is still: If the power supply is good, and if the hard drive is good, but the computer will still not turn on, what is left? Could the logic board be the only remaining culprit here? Are there other factors that could cause my iMac to not start up? -

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Check out ProntoCharger.com. I personally have never done business with them, but if I were looking for a new adapter for my iBook G4, I would give them a try. -
Migrated Acrobat XI Pro over to new iMac, but now it says serial number is invalid.
After the migration to a new iMac, it told me that it did not install correctly and I needed to reinstall Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. So I did, and now when I enter the serial number for activation, it says it is invalid. Anyone know what the problem might be?
Hey Circuit Jumper,
Could you please let me know whether you deactivated Acrobat XI from the old machine or not.
You will need to first deactivate Acrobat (from Help menu) from your old computer and then install and activate it (from Help menu) the software on the new computer using the same Adobe ID credentials (for subscription) or serial number (for license).
Please note that you can activate an Acrobat subscription or license on maximum two computers (say a desktop at work and laptop at home)
If you need to install Acrobat on the third computer, then you are required to first deactivate it from any of the old computers, so that there are no installation issues.
Please let me know if you have done in the same manner.
Hope to get your response.
