Power supply shuts down laptop during gaming.

I have a cx705mx.
This happens only during gaming, everything else is fine..browsing the net, watching movies etc. So if I open a game (world of warcraft) with the power supply in the laptop will shut down within 1-2 minutes. The lights are still lit but the laptop is unresponsive, i have to take the battery out and put it back in to turn it on. However if i take the power supply out and just use battery power I can play games flawless, no problems, but if I stick the power supply back in the laptop shuts down.

It can be the problem from the adapter, but you need another good adapter to verify.
Also, try to monitor the temperature of the CPU and the GPU before the shut down and see if you're having the high temperature of CPU/GPU which caused the shut down.

  • Computer shuts down unexpectedly during operations

My computer shuts down unexpectedly during operations.  The unit will run for about 20 minutes and then suddenly shut down for no apparent reason.  When I try to reboot the machine it comes on and shuts down immediately.  I have to wait 30 minutes to an hour before I can use it again.  I am running windows 2000 as my OS and my motherboard is a K7 prom AMD.  Can anyone out there help me?  I am going crazy trying to figure this thing out.

Hi, I have the same problem. When windows (XP) starts loading it shuts down and restarts alone; sometimes it passes and loads complete but then after a while it shuts down. With the error free load option it is more stable but it also shuts down alone. I tried everyting that is on my hands: changed the agp to a pci VGA board, eliminated all other boards, flashed the Bios, changed the power supply, checked the Hard Drive, changed RAM, etc., etc. My conclution is that it has some relation with the VGA display but in the bios; if you use more graphics it shuts down.
My system is a 694D Pro-AR (MS-6321) mother board with Pentium III 1GHz, 768 MB Ram, Matrox G450 Dual AGP.

  • X240 No Power After Shutting Down Windows

I'm working on X240 Thinkpad which is not powering-up. After replacing the planar it booted but after shutting down Windows, it won't power-up again. I notcied that it powers on again after reseating all battery including the (CMOS battery), but is dead again once you shutdown windows. BIOS FW is updated and its passing the self test. Pressinng the reset button thru pin hole does not solve the issue. It always need resetting all battery (CMOS battery included). Problem does not occur when the thinkpad is not booted to windows and shutdown via power button only. Thanks in advance. Please note that the planar has been replaced for the 2nd time in the span of around 2 months.

I've had a similar problem with the laptop before this one. I could tell you to try to take the battery out and hold down the power button for 5 seconds and then put the battery back, but that probably won't work. I could tell you to hold down the altcommandp or o and try to reset the ram, but that won't work. Your issue sounds like the power supply and your laptop is most likely dead.
If you bought it from apple.com you will have to return it and deal with the most incompetent customer service people on the planet. Took them 2 months to get my issue resolved.
I wish you the best of luck.

  • Iphone usb cable shuts down laptop with error any ideas why

every time i unplug the iphone usb cable it shuts down laptop with an error,i'm running windows7 on laptop and get a blue screen error.

This is a common problem with corrupt USB drivers. Try using a different user account, and make sure that you eject the device properly before removing the iphone cable. I don't know what system your running so I can't link you to any USB drivers, but google is always your friend. If all else fails, un-install itunes, re-install it again, back it up with all your documents to a USB drive, then re-install windows 7. Not pleasent, but possible.

  • Is there a way to automatically shut down laptop when power button pressed?

Of all the things I am having to struggle through a learning curve on MacOS (converted from Windows), this might seem like a rather benign concern, but I'm going to ask anyway. . .
I would like for my laptop to automatically go through a shutdown process when the power button is pressed - that is, bypass the dialog box that appears when hitting the power button that gives you the option to restart/shutdown, etc.
I've looked in all of my system preferences without anything that controls the behavior of this button so I imagine there might be a terminal command or an app that might accomplish this?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

I'm trying to set up my MacOS to have the power button automatically go through the shutdown process as IF I had actually clicked on a confirmation box to shut down the computer.
I don't know of any way of doing that... perhaps there's a 'haxie' out there that would generate a shutdown command when pressing the power button, but I don't know of one.
    Sorry,

  • Problems shutting down laptop

    Good morning!!
I have a Toshiba Satellite P75-A7200 and sometimes I have problems shutting down it. I have seen in some forums that it can be because I have open apps. After checking it out I see that all of them are closed and I cannot close the laptop yet... Do you have any idea why it can happen and how to solve it?
    Thanks!!!!!

I understand that when you power off your notebook it automatically restarts in 4 seconds.
You have tried several steps to try and resolve this but there is no change.
As it repeated the behavior with the hard drive removed, you know it is not an issue with Windows.
You have tried updating the bios and returning it to bios defaults but no change.
Here is a link from answers.microsoft.com that helped other people with this issue.
Windows 7 computer restarts automatically after shutdown
This does suggest you edit your registry which does have the potential to cause issues, so be very careful.  I would also suggest backing up your registry before you attempt it, just in case.
Back up the registry  from Windows.microsoft.com
If that has not helped, I would try removing the Cmos or RTC battery for 30 seconds and then replacing it.
Please let me know if this helped.

  • T410s shuts down abruptly during CPU-intensive tasks when plugged in

Hi, my ThinkPad T410s (2901CTO) has been shutting down whenever I try performing some calculations in large Excel files.
I tried running the "Stress Test" diagnostic that came with the ThinkVantage toolbox and it failes within several seconds of playing the video.  You can see the frame rate go from 30-something come to a crawl and hear the fan noise increase and then the system shuts off.
I read a lot about issues with the switchable graphics so I tried updating the Nvidia driver and even disabled discrete graphics altogether but the problem persists.  During regular usage there is no discernable problem; the issue only occurs when I appear to be "pushing" the processor (whether CPU or GPU, not sure) to the max (such as when Excel indicates all 4 processors are being used and the percent completion for a formula calculation increases extremely slowly).
I tried running the "Stress Test" diagnostic while using the battery (set to use integratead graphics in power options) instead of plugging in (which is set to use discrete graphics) and it was able to finish successfully.  So I am guessing my problem may have something to do with overheating but I really have no idea.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Samir

    Lenovo 2901CTO
    THM0 - 51 C
    Intel Core i5 540M
    Core #0 - 41 C
    Core #2 - 46 C
However, when I tried running the Lenovo stress test I noticed that right before crashing the temperatures were hovering around 80 - 100 C (including graphics processor).

  • G4-450 dual back from repair shop: new power suply shuts down on its own!

    Hi
My G4 450 Dual died on me a few months ago, i went to a Apple authorized repair place and was charged over 200 euros+ for a new Power Supply, Obviously they never tested the computer at all before installing it, i know this because when i took it home it started shutting down by itself.
When i took it back to the guys at the shop i was told that it was on all night and it does not shut down, but yet the firewire bus was dead and its due possibly to the logic board and would need to be replaced!
They tell me this after they installed a power suply and charged me money when i asked them to give me a estimate first, now i dont want the pwoersupply all together, do i have the right for my money back for the power supply, i agreed to pay them to test it for the charges of a hour.
    please advise anyone..

You are definitly entitled to your money back, they sound like cowboys...

  • IMac 21.5 OS 10.8.4 usb drawing to much power and shuts down and restarts

Hi, I have a external  hard drive. Every 1/2 hr-1hr I get a message telling me the it's shutting down to protect my computer. Then it comes right back.
The problem is I lose whatever I'm working on. I am using a powered USB hub and I have 16 GB memory. I just have the 2 drives. On the PC in my bedroom I have 4 drives ,a non powered USB hub and no problems. So I don't know how much more I can do. Help John

This is why I don't like bus powered devices, especially hard drives that are bus powered. Bus powered hard drives, IMO, simply eat up to much of the available power available on the USB bus, period.
I prefer my main storage peripherals to have have their own power supply.
Your USB hub maybe powered, but your bus powered hard drives may still be drawing to much power and putting a strain by having the hub having to pull more power from the Mac's USB bus in additon to to it's own power.
Why are you using a USB Hub?
What other power drawing devices do have hooked up the USB ports on your iMac. These maybe drawing a lot of power, as well.

    hi lizhi,
Can you check this article and see if you can turn off fast startup (for some users, this feature causes Shutdown/Restart issues).
Also, ensure that the Sleep, Hibernate, Lock and checked so that you can see them when you click on the Power Button in the Charms Bar.

You can order a replacement fan from eBay but you need to first take apart the laptop to find the fan part number to make sure you get the right part. Otherwise you will have to send it in to get it fixed. Those are your two options right now.

  • External monitor shuts down laptop

    Hey All,
I've got a weird problem that just came up. I've got a 17" external Apple flat screen monitor that I got off of eBay about 4 months ago. I bought the Apple DVI to ACD display adaptor and have been using the external as a second screen when I'm editing video and authoring DVDs. Everything was great until two nights ago when I plugged it in and all of a sudden it caused my laptop to shut down almost immediately after I connected it to my PowerBook (17" - about 1 year old). I checked it on my older 15" PowerBook and the same thing - shuts down right after plugging it in. I finally checked it on my even older G4 desk top and there were no problems - stayed on and didn't shut down. I've tried just about every variable - plug it in when I boot, plug it in after it's warmed up, charger plugged in - not plugged in, you name it, all of a sudden after 4 months it just stopped working with my laptops. Any suggestions would be grateful as I do alot of editing and the external monitor has made my life much easier because of the added real estate. Thanks in advance-
    17 Powerbook & G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

either you could try different adapter with your monitor - if it does not work, it's the display.
or you could take laptop and adapter to the store and ask them to connect it to different monitor - if it works like that, adapter is probably ok.

  • Macbook (Late 2009) Shuts down unexpectedly during boot

I have a late 2009 macbook that did not have any major issues until a couple of months ago, when it shut down randomly on me, and when I tried to reboot it, it would make a *click* noise and it would turn off without any signs of problem. I've tried resetting both the pram and smc, neither of which seemed to do anything. The farthest it's gotten into boot since is just barely into the log in screen, so any hopes of getting info off of it is pretty much gone.
Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

    Hi there 74235,
If I understand correctly you are unable to successfully boot your Mac because it keeps turning itself off during the boot and is accompanied by a physical clicking sound, rather than a sound coming from the speakers. I would recommend these 2 steps from the following article to see if checking the disk in one of two ways will resolve or isolate the issue:
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck
    Try Safe Mode
If you're using Mac OS X 10.2 or later, you can start up your computer in Safe Mode, which includes an automatic disk check and repair. If you're using Mac OS X 10.1.5 or earlier, skip to the next section. A Safe Boot, which starts up your computer into Safe Mode, might allow you to start up your computer successfully. To do this, follow these steps:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
After the system has fully started up, restart your computer again normally.
If your Mac successfully restarts, the issue should be resolved. If the issue continues, try using Disk Utility.
    Try Disk Utility
Use these steps to use the Disk Utility app to verify or repair a disk.
If you're using OS X Lion or later, start the computer from Recovery System or Internet Recovery. If you're using an older version of OS X and your computer came with a Mac OS X Install disc, insert the installation disc and restart the computer while holding the C key instead.
When your computer finishes starting up, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities window, or from the Installer menu if you're started from an installation disc.
    Click the First Aid tab.
Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
Select your Startup Disk (usually named "Macintosh HD").
Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Tip: With Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier, always start up your computer from an Install or Restore disc when using Disk Utility to verify or repair your startup volume. Otherwise, you might see some disk error messages.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling
