Power surge - ibook g4 DEAD!

Hi, my whole block had a power outage last night. Now my g4 is dead. The battery lights up green and so does the ring around the charger, but it will not start up at all. I've taken the battery out, unplugged the charger, let it sit for a while and then plugged
I understand the next step is to find the CUDA button and reset it, but how do I find this? Seriously, I've looked it up on a million different sites and no explanations are given. Do I need to open up the iBook g4 with screws??! someone please explain to me how to do this, as I have no time to go to the mac store and am illegally posting this from my job.
Thanks!

Hey Userplan9 (From Outer Space?) and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
I understand the next step is to find the CUDA button and reset it, but how do I find this?
In the iBook this function is called the PMU. Here's Apples site on how to reset it:

  • Apple TV Dead After Power Surge

I believe we had a power surge over the weekend since there were some major storms.  We were not here, but we know the power went off because we had to reset our clocks.  When we tried to use our Apple TV, it would not come on.  The LED would not light and we saw nothing on the TV screen.  The Apple TV was plugged into a surge protector.
We have tried resetting the power, and we have tried connecting it to iTunes, but it does not show up.  Does anyone know what we can do to fix it?
    Thanks! Cody

Did you follow the steps exactly, when trying to restore? Disconnect all cables, connect micro usb, if using a 3rd gen reconnect power.

Make sure to connect directly to computer, not a keyboard port or USB hub. Try a different cable.

  • Use of WRT54G after Power Surge

I was very satisfied with my WRT54G v2 until I went on vacation and came back.  While on vacation a power surge or lightning struck and wiped out a bunch of things from my garage door opener to office:  cable modem (no ethernet port), router (no internet port), old BEFSR41 used as a switch (power supply dead).
After puttering for awhile, the WRT54G has some limited lifesigns.
    -- wireless access works fine
    -- switch ports work fine
-- Internet port does not work
    Question:
-- Is this something that is serviceable?
-- Can it be converted into an access point or something?
Are old power supplys available for BEFSR41?  or is it just junk now (even with supply, it could be fried)
A few thoughts would be worthwhile

You can still use the router like a wireless switch. It can be either connected straight to a modem for a single wireless computer or be connected to an existing network that has a router.
All you have to do is connect this router to the modem on any of it's switch ports and same thing if it'll be connected to a switch or a router.

  • Power Surge Problem

I had an external HD connected to my iBook via firewire. The external HD experpienced a power surge and took out everything connected to the system.
Now my iBook turns on but won't startup.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?
    Thanks

  • Secondary Socket Fried by Power Surge/Cut?

Hope someone may be able to help me on this one. Wednesday night had a power surge/short power cut here and discovered my second socket was dead. Thought this would fix itself but have found today that the socket is still dead.
Wouldn't normally be bothered but my Sky box is wired into this socket and obviously this is soon going to cause me problems as it's part of my contract to have the box connected to a telephone line (don't use the socket for anything other than Sky and an old telephone for contacting the electric board when we have power cuts - have at least one a month here - oh the irony!).
Could this power surge (lights brightened and flickered before the power cut) have caused the damage to the socket? Has anyone had this problem before and been able to get the electric board to cough up if the surge is what has caused this damage?
Would appreciate any help as am sure Sky will be contacting me soon to query the missing telephone line connection.
Many thanks to the guys out there!

I thought this was supposed to be a forum for people helping each other out with valid and useful advice - not being facetious and puerile. I can only wish on you the electrical outcomes I have had to suffer in the past here - I have claimed against the electrical board in the past but was hoping for sensible advice on this particular occasion. My experience with the electricity board in the past has been less than helpful if not down right evasive and lengthy. I was hoping to get advice from someone who has been in this position before so that I can make a decision based on fact not speculation!

Actually I thought it was good advice, Put In a Claim, it wont cost you anything.
As regards my as you say TAG, it's not its a sig, and may I say you should also stop being your SIG as well.
Just added you to my Block list, no point in trying to help you.

  • Power surge killed ipod?

Well, I have a 30GB iPod classic, worked fine every since a friend gave it to me, battery was getting a bit old, but it worked fine. Well one day I plugged it into my dads computer and a little pop up told me there was a power surge in the USB port, and ever since then, It wont turn on. I plug it into the wall or my computer or anywhere and it wont turn on. I've tried resetting it with the Menu and Select button. I don't know what to do, is it dead, or fixable? I had a lot of stuff stored on there. Thanks in advance.

Did you use the iPod in an unsupported docking system say for a hifi ? If so, you may find that the connecting socket on your iPod is a little slack. Try holding your usb cable on to the iPod with a couple of elastic bands before you plug it into your computer. With iTunes up and running and your iPod connected this way, toggle the hold switch and restart your iPod - does it register now?

  • Power Surge w/computer 5th Generation - HELP!

I've now connectd my IPOD into my computer and get the power surge message. I've reassigned the ports from the back and the front. I've even reset the entire Ipod...do I need to reinstall Itunes or what is the deal? I cannot add any more songs. Thanks.

If you dried it is a sealed container with uncooked rice for a week and periodically changed the rice and it does not work it is dead.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for a 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • Power Surge Nuked Fax part of multi-function printer

    HP 1319f MFP with fax.
The Fax was working well until a Power Surge on the DSL/Fax line fried a relay outside and now the fax does not work. The line has no dial tone when the Printer/fax is connected, but the fax does try to dial out: "No response" it says, then the phone line is dead.
HP says the warranty does not cover this. Can I just replace a motherboard or something easy like that or do I need to take it to an HP authorized repair shop???

  • Power Surge Fried It- Can I save my files?

My iBook was fried by a power surge yesterday. Wont turn on.
I was wondering if its still possible to save my files if I take it somewhere?? Or even to get the computer running again. I mostly just want my files as I was planning on buying an iMac soon anyways.
    Thanks!

Oh, bad luck! If the iBook won't turn on I doubt that anything can be done re saving the computer. Wait for a few more replies before taking that as gospel though...
In the meantime you can try a PMU reset:
    1. If the computer is on, turn it off.
    2. Reset the power manager by simultaneously pressing and then releasing Shift-Control-Option-Power on the keyboard. Do not press the fn (Function) key while using this combination of keystrokes.
    3. Wait 5 seconds.
    4. Press the Power button to restart the iBook
What you can do is to remove the HD and put it into an external enclosure. Once you have your new iMac you can connect the two and transfer what files you want.
For instructions on removing the HD select your model Here then Hard Drive on the next page.
If you're planning to sell the remains as a 'spares or repair', perhaps on eBay, you need to be fairly careful and put it all back together again. Otherwise you can be as destructive as you like until you get to the HD.

  • Won't let me copy to hard drive post power surge

Ok, to make a long story short, I hope, I had an electrical fire (everyone's ok) that involved and destroyed my laptop's power cord and as part of that fun I seem to have had a power surge that has reset some of the defaults on my computer but not all. Some of the folders I created prior to the surge are gone, etc. The only real problem is that the permissions on my internal hard drive seem to have been reset. Below are the things it will and will not allow me to do.
-- I cannot copy files from a flash drive, cd or external hard drive to the internal hard drive. I get that circle with a line through it. Clicking and dragging, copy/paste, nothing works.
-- I can move stuff that is already on the internal hard drive from folder to folder.
-- I can save email attachments to the internal hard drive.
-- I can copy stuff from internal the hard drive to a flash drive, cd or external hard drive.
-- I can read the files on flash drives, cds or external hard drives, such as a movie file, just fine, they run without a glitch. The peripherals did not suffer any resets as a result of the fire/power surge. When it happened the computer shut down automatically and I think that saved the accessories from being damaged because the computer is the only thing that showed any changes after it happened.
And before someone asks, yes, I checked, I have 40 GB of HD space so it's not a space issue.
I right clicked on MAC HD and did the Get Info and looked at the details of the permissions on various files and tried shifting some of those around but even though it says Read and Write it still won't let me copy to the internal drive from other sources. Interestingly when I got to the User file it was marked Read Only but changing it to Read Write didn't help. Something I did once worked but then it stopped working so I have no idea what it was. I put everything back the way it was. Could somebody please help me? My computer is old and dieing a slow painful death but if I can make it last a little longer that will make my life so much easier. Please let me know if you need any system info or anything.
    *Thank you!!*
PS. I'm not posting this on the peripheral thread because the problem isn't really the peripherals, it's the system not wanting to play nice with others, so that's why I put this over here.

Hi. It's not a dumb question, cause if it is then my answer is really stupid, what's a repair permission? lol I don't know what that is so I guess the answer is no, though I can guess from the name it's a program to fix permissions if the files get messed up? I knew how to change the permissions in Get Info but past that I was getting into things I don't know so I figured it was time to ask for help or I'd be on here asking how to un-erase a hard drive. jk So how would I do that and is there anything else I should do?
Sorry if my initial post was a bit defensive. I had a moderator give me flak over some minor thing on a post once and I was supremely frustrated with this problem. Sorry if it came out kinda angry. I appreciate any help you can give me.

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g power surge

Had a power surge on the printer due to a storm. Now the printer won't power up. Tried plugging it in a different electrical outlet, but it still won't power up. Is there a way to reset the internal power supply since I assume there is some type of surge protection on the printer?
    Thanks,
