Power Surge UMTS KPN dongel T430 with Windows XP

I have Windows XP SP3 installed on a Lenovo T430, now I get the message: Power Surge on Hub Port: A USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port.
On Windows 7 the UMTS dongel works good.
How can I use Windows XP with servicepack 3 and the KPN UMTS dongel?

Hi,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that you are getting a message “Power Surge on Hub Port: A USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port” in your Lenovo ThinkPad T430.
I would suggest you to go to Control panel -> Device manager -> uninstall all the devices under Universal serial bus controllers, then restart the computer to let XP install all the USB ports again. Later, find the chipset and USB drivers from Lenovo support page and install them.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Mithun.

  • NVIDIA Graphic Card doesn't work on T430S with Windows 8

My T430S laptop runs Windows 8 and has a NVIDIA graphic card. Somehow I was never able to enter the NVIDIA control panel and got the error message below. I checked the setting in BIOS and it seems that NIVDIA Optimus mode is not availale on Windows 8. I updated the most recent driver released in Feb 2013 from Lenovo but it didn't solve the problem. I was wondering how I could use the NVIDIA on my compueter.

    Hi, jumper1127
There is also a BIOS update availabe for your machine that came out around the same time as the Optimus driver. That can be found here and may help your issue.
Best of luck. Let me know how it goes

  • Power drain during hibernation for X200 with Windows 7

    Hi guys,
I purchased a new X200 laptop 2 weeks ago and am loving this new toy. One thing puzzled me, however, regarding power usage in hibernation mode. Based on my past experience and information on the Internet, when Windows goes into hibernation, the entire memory state is dumped into hard disk and the machine completely switches off just like a normal shutdown. That seems to be not true for my new X200 as every time I wake up the machine from hibernation, the battery meter always shows something like 95% and it requires another half an hour or so to fully recharge the battery.
Now I'm a bit confused. Is it a new feature in Windows 7 to draw battery power even in hibernation or the battery is leaking power?
Thanks for any reply in advance.

Hi rlh1, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
Yes there's no need for Presentation Director on Windows 7 because it is built in. Fn-F7 or Windows Key-P to access. Also see the Windows Mobility Center.

  • USB Power surge problem on my P35 Neo F

    Hi,
I finally got my BIOS problems solved and have already installed everything and almost everything is ok with my system...
BUT. There is still the problem with the "Power surge in USB hub". I don't know whether this is the right forum for this but I'll explain my situation and maybe someone can help, or at least move this to the right forum.
So, first of all, when trying to do the usb flasher bios update I came across the problem where the computer totally freezes when you put a memory stick to a usb hub. That I cleared by removing the wires leading to the extrenal case usb ports, which weren't working anyhow. After updating the bios, I started working normally and thought that everything is ok with my usb wireless desktop devices and my external HDD connected. Yesterday if I turned the external HDD on, the power surge notification would pop up. Anyhow, today everything was ok until I plugged the HDMI-DVI cable for my 2nd monitor, a LCD Tv, in my computer, after which the power surge notification popped up once again. When I'm using my second monitor, it works ok for about 5 minutes after which the 2nd computer loses the signal and turns itself off. I realised that yesterday I had the same cable contacted so there must be something there.
Long story short, do YOU think that this power surge has something to do with my Akasa PSU not providing suffient power? That would sound like the most simple solution as when I contact another device to my computer, the power surge occurs, as well as the fact that the 2nd monitor, the LCD TV, turns itself off after a few minutes of signal..
OR, would it be a possibility to buy an active USB hub, which was suggested to someone earlier, for the HDD drive, which actually has an external power source of it's own. Could the external active HUB be the solution or should I just go and buy a new PSU, which would be a lot more expensive and to be honest, might not even be the solution..
I must also point out that with my previous computer, the HDD drive, the wireless desktop and the HDMI-DVI cables were always connected at the same time without any sort of problems, so could it even be a problem with the Mobo?
Sorry for my english if it's unclear, but if someone knows how to help, please do so.
    Thanks!

Ok, so the best bet is that it's the PSU, I gotta start searching for one then.
Just to doublecheck, here are the voltages for my psu
voltage regulation minimum load maximum load  peak load
    +3.3V        ±5%         0.5A           30.0A            -
    +5V           ±5%         0.3A           30.0A            -
    +12V1        ±5%         1.0A           14.0A          16.0A
    +12V2        ±5%         1.0A           15.0A           -
    -12V         ±10%         0.0A          0.5A             -
    +5Vsb        ±5%          0.0A          2.0A            2.5A
I have absolutely no idea what the figures mean, so can someone explain me the +12V voltages in this SPU, so that I won't go and buy a new PSU in vain.
Thanks in advance for your great assistance!

  • Hp zv5242qv laptop with windows vista will not run on battery but will run on power adapter

Hello, I have a HP zv5242qv pavilion zv5000 series laptop with windows vista installed. I can run it on the power adapter with and without the battery installed but it will not power up on just the battery, the battery is new and fully charged. When I plug in the power adapter the battery light on the front of the laptop comes o then goes off, anyone have any ideas about my problem ?

    Hello,
The situation you describe looks like the unit has problems with the battery, but you say the battery is new and is fully charged.
Then, the issue might be with the system board and maybe there isn't anyhting you can do.
You can try to remove the battery and the ac adapter, and keep the power button pressed for 30 seconds, then connect the ac adapter, turn on the unit, then when in windows put the battery in place, see how it is detected, the power level and restart the PC. See if the unit restarts with the battery in place, if yes, then shutdown the unit.
See what happens and report back.

  • Power Management Issues with Windows 8.1 RTM on HP Elitebook 8560w

Installed Windows 8.1 RTM on my HP Elitebook 8560w yesterday and am having the same problem as with Windows 8.1 Preview before - power management is not working correctly. The screen will dim real shortly and come right back after the set amount of minutes, but it does not turn off. Standby never occurs. I have the power managent plan set to "balanced", but neither plugged in or on battery do the set timers work. The only thing that works is manually pressing the power button to go into standby.
Anybody else see this problem or is there a bug fix for this?

Windows 8.1 is not an official release, and still a beta program and not officially supported.  Also, your EliteBook is a Business model.  Your future issues would be best answered on the HP Enterprise Business Community Forum

  • Has there been trouble with the charger.  I am getting to re-order but the one i had the had the power surge and the end was blackened.  Not sure if it safe to use the laptop again?

Has there been any trouble with the charger?  I am getting ready to re-order but the one i had.... the had the power surge and the end was blackened.  Not sure if it safe to use the laptop again?  Thanks.

Can you also see blackening in the power jack on the PowerBook? If so, I would be worried that the surge also damaged the computer/
Does the computer run OK on just the battery? If it is working on battery power, that limits the number of things inside the computer that could have been fried.
If the computer is severely damaged by the surge, it's not worth repairing. However, a couple of posters in Apple forums said their homeowners'/renters' insurance paid them replacement value of their computer after power surge damage due to known problems on the grid, like the huge power outage that hit the SW Untied Stats and part of Mexico yesterday.

Starting with Windows 8, the conventional Power Manager with charging thresholds is no longer officially offered.
Here's a third party tool to set what you need:
    http://thinkutils.wordpress.com/download/
You still need to have the requisite power management drivers installed for it to function properly.

  • Windows 8 Pre-Load Dual Boot with Windows 7 (T430)

I ave created Recovery Media for WIndows 8 Preload using the following instructions:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT076024
I have deleted GPT partition where Windows 8 Preload was installed leaving other partitions, including recovery partition, intact. Created smaller GPT partition for Windows 7 64-bit and after some drama with Windows 7 product key I was able to install anb boot into Windows 7.
The next step was to create partition for Windows 8 Preload.
After rebooting I followed steps at the link above:
    - F12 and boot from USB (Recovery Media)
    - Select Troubleshoot (Other options: Continue to Windows 7, Use a device (US Drive, network connection or Windows recovery DVD)
    - Select Reset your PC (Other oprions: Refresh you PC and Advanced Options)
At this point on Resset your PC under "Choose a target OS" there's only Windows 7 option no choice for traget partition?
Just for fun I go Next and I'm presented with Do you want to repartition the drives on your PC or keep existing partitions? Now is the time to politely decline since I don't want Windows 7 wiped out.
What is the process to install Windows 7and then Windows 8 Preload?
    Thanks,
    Andre

Also, some people have claimed success with shrinking existing Windows 8 preload and installing Windows 7 second. Is is possible on GPT style partition? If so, would reset of preload wipeout Windows 7 or would there be option to install over shrunk Windows 8 preload?
    Thank you,
    Andre

  • I have windows 7, had a power surge that shut down my desktop pc, restored to a prev date, firefox was installed then, now I can't uninstall it. How do I uninstall it now?

Hi I tried firefox as a browser but didn't keep it. Uninstalled it and put explorer 9 back on. Tonight a power surge knocked out my desktop pc totally. When I got it back on, there were start up problems. Start up repair restored to a different date, and it happened to be the date when I installed firefox. I activated explorer 9 again, then tried to uninstall firefox, but the uninstall won't work from the control panel. How do I uninstall firefox now?

If the Control Panel method doesn't work ([https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Uninstalling%20Firefox Uninstalling Firefox | How to | Firefox Help]), try the program '''helper.exe''' in this folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!

  • HP 8600 all in one Printer Scanner to Computer with Windows 8

i can not get the printer to reconize the Computor i want to scan to  i Have HP Printer 8600 all in one printer and HP computor with Windows 8 (wireless)

Hello Stringfield, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing scan issues.  I would like to help.
I would suggest performing a power reset on the printer.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would then recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
Please let me know the results.  Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Power Surge on Hub Port - Nokia E7

Please help me with my problem with Nokia E7. I have been using it since 4 years and never it gave such problem to me. Whenever i connect it to my PC it says power surge on USB hub. i took it to the technician and he said that the problem was with the problem was with the hardware i.e. the USB port. so i spent a thousand bucks in putting a new USB port and still it shows the same problem. my phone charger and the phone's USB wire doesnt work properly. even a small jerk disconnects the connection.
please value my time and money ur solutions are welcome !

    AJAKRE001,
An alternative way to connect your Nokia E7 to a Windows computer is through bluetooth. But I since assume you are also having problems charging the phone so the only recourse is to send it to a Nokia Care Centre for further device evaluation.
