  • Power switch wiring: I messed up: color/circuit diagram help?

I messed up as I was doing some work inside my 700 MHz eMac.
Managed to break one of the three wires on the power switch. Having done that before, I decided it was time to replace all the wiring with something longer and more substantial. All OK until I realized how stupid I can be: I failed to note the color-to-pin on the the little square 4-pin plug at the motherboard end of the power switch wiring harness. The socket has four pins, like this: :: Can someone tell me which is Red/Green/Black, with orientation, e.g. looking at the socket as it is vertically above the Firewire/USB/Ethernet/sound output socket panel? (That would be, obviously, with the monitor face down)
So some sort of diagram? such as:
    Blank . . Red
    Green . . Black
    Video out
    Ethernet
    etc.
    Many thanks.

    Hey G4,
I've got a 700 logic assembly out here and actually you've got it right.
If you look at that socket that the 2X2 plug plugs into the positions are (this would be in the true orientation of the plug where the bottom is the bottom of the computer):
    Blank . . Red
    Green . . Black
I.E. the top right slot is red the top left is open.
The two important ones are the red and the black. I've got tiny jumpers in the power button end of that cable. When I start the eMac out of the case I momentarily short those two leads together.

  • Wiring Diagram for an MS5182

I have recently acquired an old MS5182 motherboard from a car boot sale and i am trying to set it up as a system for my daughter in her bedroom purely for her schoolwork, the board itself is in perfect condition but i have had no luck finding the wiring diagram for power switch, reset switch etc, I have downloaded the manual from MSI but that only gives the basics can anybody out there help?

I don't know if your board has the same indications but for most of them, they have abbrev for the connectors on the board itself.
In the manual that you've download, it is actually in 5182-2.pdf, page 18 of the manual in pdf format.
I've downloaded the manual from this link below. Please note that the manual consist of 5 different pdf files and the one you are looking for is in "5182-2.pdf".

  • K230 Power Switch Wiring

I'm using a K230 case with a new AMD based FM1 socket motherboard.  The MSI motherboard front panel connectors are different than the Lenovo MB, so I need to re-pin the connector.  Does anyone know where I can find a schematic that tells me what power button wire is which?

  • HP Mini Netbook Power Switch

My sister is not able to power on her HP Mini 1010NR netbook.  I was looking at the HP Mini 1000 Mainteance ans Service guild and could not find a part number for the replacement switch.  Is there a parts manual and breakdown on this hardware area?  The netbook is out of warrenty, but I would like to fix the issue with a replacement power switch.
    Thanks for any help!
    Update:
I found part #506336-001 to be a "on/off switch and USB card" through a google search, but the service manual only states it to be a USB board.  Can anyone verifiy that tis is the correct part number?

I happen to own one of those.
There is no internal power unit, per se.  Notebooks and netbooks have power circuitry that distribute and rectify power to various parts of the system board.
The greates likelihood is that your power adapter is faulty. Does the power led light up when it is plugged into the netbook?

  • Power switch circuit for 13" MacBook

I replaced the water damaged keyboard on my white 13" MacBook 6.1, which now works except for the power switch and Keycaps light. I think what happened when troubleshooting, I jumpered the 2 MLB contacts to bypass the power switch and may have made contact with another trace that may have damaged a diode or transistor in that circuit. Plus, I think that the fact that the Keycaps light doesn't work indicates that supply voltage going to the power switch in missing, if that is where the Keycaps LED gets its power. Jumpering the contacts is still the only way to power it up. If anyone has the circuit diagram of this part of the MLB or knows the solution I would appreciate the information. My last resort is to wire an external switch to the contacts and mount it somewhere on the side of the laptop. Thanks for any help.

The magsafe adaptor does have its own circuitboard, so it could be an isolated failure of the DC board.
iFixit has the instructions to replace the board.
powerbookmedic.com has the parts, generally less than $50 but depends on your model. Make sure you get the right model!

Personally, I would take it to the Apple store and try out one of their power supplies, just to make sure that your AC adaptor is not the cause.

That depends on what type of connection your display has and whether or not your PC has a video card used for display or if you are using the onboard video outputs.
Do you really mean PC monitor ( the old school kind) or did you mean to say LCD display (thin flat screens) instead?

My MacBook Air is making a clicking noise every 7 seconds for 2 seconds. It started today, and I have had the computer for almost a year.  It is below the power switch and annoying enough that it is hard to even work with the computer.  It sounds as if a hard drive is trying to work. If its a MBA with solid state drive then I would guess its the fan touching something ???. I think it have no other moving parts.

  • Dual G4 1.42ghz FW 800 won't power on. Looking for PSU pin diagram.

I have a similar problem with my Dual G4 1.42ghz that many others seem to have with other models.
It used to do some weird shutdown and sleep freezes but only very rarely. Now it doesn't do a single thing. not a sound or a light comes on anywhere, removing peripherals,PCI's, etc. changes nothing. pRam resets CUDA's, battery removals change nothing.
So I now need to find the pin diagram for the PSU. it's 24 pins and since I'm an amateur, I'm not going to base any assumptions on the pin diagrams for previous models which were 20 and 22 pin, i believe. Oh yeah, I have closely examined the PSU and to tell the truth, there are no tell-tale signs of damage anywhere, no breaks, bulges, or burns...
Any further guidance would be greatly appreciated,
    Christopher

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
A pinout can be had on This Page.
    Procedure for testing follows:
    1. Plug a known-good power cord into the computer. Do not turn on the computer.
    2. Connect the black lead of the volt meter to pin 12 of the power supply connector;
connect the red lead of the volt meter to pin 24. The volt meter should measure
    approximately +12V.
If you do not get a reading of +12V, recheck the volt meter connections and measure
the voltage again. If voltage is still not present, replace the power supply.
If you do measure +12V on pin 24, the power supply is likely OK. Go to the next step
    for further verification.
    3. Start up the computer by pressing the power button on the front panel.
If the computer starts up normally, the power supply is OK. If the computer does not
start up, go to the next step.
    4. Check to see if the power supply fan is spinning.
If the fan spins, the power supply is OK. If the fan does not spin, go to the next step.
    5. Connect the black lead of the volt meter to pin 12 of the power supply connector;
connect the red lead to pin 6. The volt meter should measure approximately +3.3V.
If you do not get a reading of +3.3V, recheck the volt meter connections and measure
the voltage again. If voltage is still not present, replace the power supply.
If you do measure +3.3V on pin 6, the power supply is likely OK. Go to the next step
    for further verification.
    6. Connect the black lead of the volt meter to pin 12 of the power supply connector;
connect the red lead to pin 3. The volt meter should measure approximately +5V.
If you do not get a reading of +5V, recheck the volt meter connections and measure
the voltage again. If voltage is still not present, replace the power supply.
If you do measure +5V on pin 3, the power supply is likely OK. Go to the next step for
    further verification.
    7. Connect the black lead of the volt meter to pin 12 of the power supply connector;
connect the red lead to pin 10. The volt meter should measure approximately +12V.
If you do not get a reading of +12V, recheck the volt meter connections and measure
the voltage again. If voltage is still not present, replace the power supply.
If you do measure +12V on pin 10, the power supply is OK and the testing is
complete. You have verified that the power supply is not the cause of the “no
    apparent power” symptom.

  • Software for Power Switch Control and One Key Recovery for Windows 8?

Hi. I have recently upgraded to windows 8 with a clean install. I was wondering if there is software to get the power switch control software back so I can set it to auto, turbo or cool because without it I think using the switch is useless. I also would like to know if there is a way to get one key recovery back.

I can't use the One Key Recovery of my Y2P anymore, as I decreased the size of the C partition in favour of increasing D:\Data
    OKR won't even start anymore...
Any chance to get OKR working again if I make these partitions the same sizes?
Who has the exact partition sizes in MB of the Y2P 20266 with Samsung PM851 256 GB SSD?

Your 4-pin cable from the HP 6-in-1 reader is a USB 2.0 connection.
    WATCH POLARITY -- POWER, GROUND.
You can damage motherboard USB IC, Surface mount; OR 6-in-1 Reader.
HP had a bad habit of using various Cable Kluges on their Front Panel wiring
to support a variety of motherboards.
Largely due to lack of USB 2.0 headers on motherboards, a decade ago.
** You should see their a000 computer case wiring ! ** (I have one, retrofitting to Intel standards).

  • Need Info to repair broken power switch connector on logic board

    Hi folks,
I had some bad luck this week. The power switch connector broke off my daughter's Ibook logic board during a HD upgrade attempt. Unfortunately, it pulled enough of the etch that I can't determine where the connections use to go.
I would like to salvage the board. So, if anyone has access to a schematic for the G3 Ibook, 14" 900Mz logic board, I would appreciate some info about the circuit. Specifically, to what components does the switch connect. I already identified one side is grounded and the other side is pulled up to 3V through a 1K resistor, but that etch also went somewhere else. I suppose the gate of a FET transistor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Perhaps someone with a dead logic board could trace the circuit with an ohm meter.
    Regards,
    Spencer

    Hi spencer,
Apple doesn't make circuit diagrams available, sorry. I've done or had done component level repairs of iBook logic boards before, usually to re-attach connectors which have come off, but unlike yours, these ones have all come off leaving the trace on the board.
The fact the traces have come off isn't good, as you can probably tell. It's also a 4 layer board, so where the vias go is important. I have a couple of dead logic boards from 500,600 and 700mhz iBooks. The 14 inch logic boards are essentially the same as the 12 inch ones. These pictures are of the area of a 700mhz logic board.
