Power View in SharePoint Server - The data extension type for a data source is not valid

Hi All,
All of a sudden I am getting following error when trying to create Power View report using shared report data source (no error testing the connection):
"The current action cannot be completed. The data extension type for a data source
'http://dev/Shared Ducuments/Sales.rsds' is not valid for this operation"
I already have a data source (I had created it after creating my site collection a week ago) and when I use this source to create Power View report then there is no error but I am getting above error when I create another similar data source and use it to create
a Power View report.
Please help me to resolve the error.
Thanks

I am going nuts! I had selected 'Analysis Services' instead of 'Microsoft BI Semantic Model for Power View'

  • Power view in SharePoint - Changing the default save location?

Is it possible to change the default location when saving Power view back into SharePoint?
Our users are creating their own power view reports by clicking a power view shared data source in SharePoint document library.
When saving their reports, the default location is always the same location where the data source is. This is described here also:
    https://support.office.microsoft.com/en-us/article/Power-View-in-SharePoint-Server-Create-save-and-print-reports-f616575e-02bf-46cd-b94a-b744245ef9d1?CorrelationId=a852221e-b063-4020-a20a-53d8e8fb8b8b&ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US
Quote from the link: "The first time you save the
report, the default location will be the folder where the model is located."
Ok, understood. But is it possible to change this???

    Hi again
    Ouch! Not the network!
One of the hard learned issues that folks are unaware of until they encounter problems is that Captivate does not do well when a project is stored on a network. It's fine to keep projects there in order to back them up or as a transfer pivot location to allow others to edit, but you never want to open Captivate, click File > Open and browse to a network location to open a project for editing.
Best practice at this point is to keep projects on your local C drive when you make edits.

  • Can I change the default 'File Type' for PL/SQL Source File to '*.prc' ?

Want to change the 'default' extension for PL/SQL source to '*.prc'
When navigating 'File' / 'Save As', and selecting the 'File Type' list box,
The default 'File Type' for PL/SQL Source File is '*.pls'.
Can I change the default 'File Type' for PL/SQL Source File to '*.prc' ?
I have followed , 'Tools', 'Preferences' , 'File Types' and added '.prc' as 'Sql Script' file type, because (PL/SQL Source) is not present in the list.

You can certainly overwrite the 'Save As' extension as you are saving the file. I have added an ER for more control over this functionality.

  • Change the reverse document type for RE.

    Hi,
We want to change the reverse document type for document type RE, can any one sugget the possible negative impact.

    hi
kindly note that if you are creating a new document type to be assigned as the reversal document type for RE then you need to assign the appropriate number range interval for the year.
if you are going to assign an existing document type as the reversal document type for RE then you will not be able to distingush the past and the new documents generated as both of them shall belong to the same document type.

  • Power view couldn't load the model or data source because the data source type is not supported

    Hi,
I have SQL 2012 standard edition in my local. I have developed SSAS & deployed in local. I have been asked to develop power view report in excel 2013 using this SSAS. But when I tried to do in Excel 2013 professional Plus, I am getting below error:
Power view couldn't load the model or data source because the data source type is not supported.
Does power view is supported in standard edition of SQL or it requires Business/Enterprise edition of SQL server?
    Thanks in advance

What type of SSAS install are you using?
PowerView in Excel 2013 currently only supports Tabular data sources.
Only PowerView in Sharepoint 2013 supports both Tabular and Multi-Dim data sources. (provided you have the required Sharepoint and SQL updates installed)

  • Power View in Office 365 vs. Power View in SharePoint

    Hi all,
I am trying to find the best method to get PowerView reports into Dynamics AX. So far, I've simply created a form as ActiveX and navigated to the link to the excel file, but this is not desirable. I read that it is possible to have them embedded into Role
Centers/Enterprise Portal, but I need to have PowerView in "SharePoint" mode.
What are the differences between SharePoint mode and Office 365? Is there no way to export the PowerViews to PowerPoint or as Menu Items from Office 365?
Also, any information or tips on integrating PowerViews/Power BI with Dynamics AX would be great!
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
Power View comes in two different flavors:
    1. Power View as an Excel add-in (free with Excel 2013 Professional Plus)
If you have Office 365 with Power BI enabled, you can create visualizations(Charts etc) in Excel using Power View and publish them to a Power BI site which lets you share, view, and interact with reports. At the time of this posting, there is no way
to export a Power View Report (created in Excel) to Power Point.
    2. Power View, as a Reporting Services(SSRS) Add-in for SharePoint Server(Enterprise Edition).
If you don't have Office 365(with Power BI), you can still publish Power View reports(created in Excel) to an on-premise SharePoint site. You can definitely
Export a report from Power View in SharePoint to PowerPoint
Integration with Dynamics AX - There are several options for integration and here is one of them.
    1. Use Power Query to Discover all the data you need from Dynamics AX (SQL Server database),
Transform and Mashup the data. Create a data model in Power Pivot and then use Power View to create your visualizations and publish them to either an on-premise SharePoint environment or to a Power BI site in Office 365.
I have a Dynamics AX client and they wanted to use Power View. They have a Data Warehouse built on top of their AX database and an SSAS cube (Multidimensional) on top of their Data Warehouse. Since they don't have an Enterprise instance of SharePoint, we
extracted all the data from the Data Warehouse into a Power Pivot model, then used Power View(the Excel add-in) to create the visualizations.
Please take a look at this technet article
Microsoft Dynamics AX integration with Power BI for Office 365
Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • What is max size of slicer values in Power View on SharePoint?

I have Power View on SharePoint 2013 and OLAP Cube on SQL Server 2014 solution.
I should have 1000 values in DimCity, but not all are available in slicer.
    Why? What is max value?
    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_I,
According to your description, you have 1000 values in a data field, but some of them are not available in Power View slicer. Right?
In this scenario, as we tested in our local environment, it's not related to the number of values. We tried 2000+ values in a slicer. It can return all the data field values properly. Please check if it has corresponding value for each DimCity. It has
no limitation on max number of values within a slicer.

  • Power View in SharePoint only shows current year.

I have a customer using the Power View add in for SharePoint 2013 based on SQL 2014.   I have created a BISM object that connects directly to an OLAP cube.
When I build reports or Pivot tables against this object they work fine.  However when I build dashboards in Power View they only show the current year's data
We do have a default date dimension which forces for some reason Power View to only display current year. Therefore the slider doesn’t work since it has only current year / date showing up.
After removing the date dimension in one of our dev. cubes, Power View showed all dates and we were even able to uses the date animation with slider worked fine.
We don't want to do this in production however, because many of our reports rely on the default date dimension.
Has anyone come across this or know a workaround?

  • How to build high usability navigation for Power View on SharePoint 2013?

I have Power View on SharePoint 2013. I have both SSAS Multidimentional and Tabular model in use.
I have several Report.drlx file in Report libary in SharePoint.
When I click the file, it works fine, but I feel that there are usability problems like:
    A) Getting back to SharePoint site is not intuitive. Difficult to find home.
    B) Diffucult to move between report to another. Need to return Document library.
What is best practise for displaying several Power View reports on SharePoint?
    Kenny_I

    Hi Kenny_I,
Just as you said, we cannot directly navigate to Home page when we view an .rdlx report in SharePoint site. We need click the Arrow to go to the previous page (Document Library), then click “Home” to navigate to Home page. If we want to move from a report
to another report, we should still use the same way. This is by design.
If you want to jump from one report to another report, we can add a hyperlink to a text box in a sheet or view. Personally, I understand your feeling and how frustrated when you find this issue. So, it is my pleasure to help you to reflect your recommendation
to the proper department for their consideration. Please feel free to submit your situation on our product to the following link:

What are the two different rules for organizational data determination???

    Hi
    1) Rule type Responsibilities
want to determine organizational data for individual responsibilities
have not created an organizational model but want to create one
have a lot of organizational units and must only assign a few attributes

  • Incorrect MIME type for XML Data Connection POST requests

It appears that Xcelsius 2008u2019s XML Data Connection logic does not specify the correct MIME type for the data it sends to the server in its POST request.  Using an HTTP debug proxy, I was able to see that Xcelsius sends XML data in the POST, but is setting a content-type of u201Cx-www-form-urlencodedu201D.  According to the W3C spec:
      http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interact/forms.html#h-17.13.4.1
Data sent with a MIME type of u201Cxxu201D should be encoded as key?value pairs, like this:
      key1=val1&key2=val2&Submit=Submit
So, what Xcelsius is doing is clearly incorrect.  Worse, if your server process is a Java servlet, you may find that the POSTed data will be gobbled up by the servlet container and you wonu2019t be able to read it using a getInputStream(), or getReader() call because itu2019s already been processed by a call to the getParameter() method.
The correct mime type for POSTing an XML formatted request from Xcelsius should be "text/xml".

    Hi,
The Error #2032 your getting is due to the Flash player security.
To remove this this error you need one crossdomain Xml file in the root directory which actually provides a lot more control over who has access to your data from a SWF. The cross domain policy is attached as crossdomain.xml.
In the XML file, it is used a wildcard (*). This allows a SWF located on any machine to access your data source. You can certainly use an IP address or domain name to restrict access rather to opening it up completely. I always start with the wildcard to make sure my dashboard works, then start restricting access as necessary.
Here is a whitepaper with everything you need to know about Flash player security:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_9_security.pdf
Please let me know if you need any more clarification.

  • Data: stru_tab type ref to data? what data refers to?

    Dear friends,
Relatively iam new to WDA. can u please explain me below statement.
data: stru_tab type ref to data.

Actually there are not really any Web Dynpro sepecific data types.  The ones mentioned are simply data dictionary data types that are defined for use with WD, but can be used in any ABAP applications.  You should start your research with just ABAP data types.  Look in the ABAPDOCU transaction or search the keyword documentation for DATA. There is lots of documentation on the ABAP native data types.
Here is a little bit of it:
    Predefined ABAP Types
The table below shows the predefined ABAP types. Additional attributes can be found under value ranges and initial values.
    Type Length Standard length Description
    b 1 Byte   1 byte integer (internal)
    c 1 to 65,535 characters 1 character Text field
cursor as i as i Database cursor
    d 8 characters   Date field
f 8 bytes   Floating point number
    i 4 bytes   4 byte integer
    n 1 to 65,535 characters 1 character Numeric text
    p 1 to 16 bytes 8 bytes Packed number
    string variable   Text string
    s 2 bytes   2 byte integer (internal)
    t 6 characters   Time field
    x 1 to 65,535 bytes 1 byte Byte field
    xstring variable   Byte string
These types are predefined in every ABAP program.
All predefined ABAP types in this table are elementary.
Apart from the types b and s, the predefined ABAP types can also be used to define your own data types and data objects and for typing. The types b and s cannot be specified directly in ABAP statements. Self-defined data types and data objects in ABAP programs are of the data type b and s if they are defined with reference to data elements to the ABAP Dictionary which are of the external data types INT1 or INT2.
The predefined data types string and xstring describe data objects of variable length (dynamic data objects). While the length of data objects in all other elementary data types is determined for its whole lifetime, the length of text and byte strings varies according to their content (the maximum size of a string is determined by profile parameter ztta/max_memreq_MB, see Maximum size of dynamic data objects).
The program-globally predefined data type cursor is currently synonymous with the predefined ABAP type i. This is required for the declaration of a cursor variable for database cursor handling.
All predefined ABAP types for which a length interval is specified in second column in the table are generic, which means that the length is not part of the type description. For the type p, the fractional portion is indefinite as well as the length.
The entries in the standard length column specify the length that is used for the corresponding generic data type when declaring data objects, if no explicit length is specified in the relevant statement.
In Unicode systems, the length must either be specified in characters and bytes. In non-Unicode systems, the length of a character is one byte, but in Unicode systems the length of a character depends on which Unicode character representation is used.
    Generic ABAP Types
The following table shows the predefined generic ABAP types. A generic data type is an incomplete type specification that includes several complete type specifications. The generic types can be used for the typing of field symbols and formal parameters. The only generic type that can be used for typing of data references is the predefined type data. The predefined generic type for object references is object. When a data object is assigned to generically typed field symbols using the statement ASSIGN, or to a formal parameter in procedure calls, the system checks whether its concrete data type is a of the generic type, or is compatible with it.
    Type Description
any Any data type (suitable for any type)
any table Internal table of any table type
c Text field of generic length
clike Character-type (c, d, n, t, string and character-type flat structures); in non- Unicode programs also x, xstring and any flat structures
    csequence Text-type (c, string)
    data Any data type
    hashed table Hashed table
    index table Index table
n numeric text of generic length
    numeric Numeric (b, i, p, f, s)
object Any object type (root class of the inheritance hierarchy)
p Packed number of generic length and generic number of decimal places
simple Elementary data type including structured types with exclusively character-type flat components
    sorted table Sorted table
    Standard table Standard table
    table Standard table
x Byte field of generic length
    xsequence byte-type (x, xstring)
The genric types clike, csequence, numeric, simple, and xsequence are available as of release 6.10.
    Notes
The generic type any currently has the same effect in typing as the generic type data. When declaring references, any cannot yest be specified after REF TO. Generic data references (REF TO data) or generic object references (REF TO object) are possible. The generic type object can currently only be specified after REF TO.
Except for the built-in generic types illustrated in the table above, there are at the moment no self-defined generic types in ABAP with only one exception: A table type defined with TYPES - TABLE OF or defined in the ABAP Dictionary without completely specifying the table key, is also generic.
Predefined Types in the ABAP Dictionary
The following table lists the predefined types in the ABAP Dictionary. These types cannot be used directly in ABAP programs, and are therefore known as external data types. Instead, they are used in the ABAP Dictionary for the definition of data types to which ABAP programs can refer. The predefined data types of the ABAP Dictionary must also be taken into account in Open SQL statements and when working with screens: Open SQL statements work with database tables defined in the ABAP Dictionary whose colums have external data types. Screen fields are also declared in the Screen Painter with reference to external data types.
Type Permitted Places m Meaning ABAP Type
    ACCP 6 Accounting period n(6)
    CHAR 1-255 Character string c(m)
    CLNT 3 Client c(3)
    CUKY 5 Currency key c(5)
    CURR 1-31 Currency field p((m+1)/2)
    DATS 8 Date d
    DEC 1-31 Calculation/amount field p((m+1)/2)
FLTP 16 Floating point number f(8)
    INT1 3 1 byte integer b
    INT2 5 2 byte integer s
    INT4 10 4 byte integer i
    LANG 1 Language c(1)
LCHR 256-... Long character string c(m)
LRAW 256-... Long byte string x(m)
    NUMC 1-255 numerischer Text n(m)
PREC 2 Accuracy of a quantity field s
    QUAN 1-31 Quantity field p((m+1)/2)
    RAW 1-255 Byte sequence x(m)
    RAWSTRING 256-... Byte sequence xstring
    SSTRING 1-255 Character string string
    STRING 256-... Character string string
    TIMS 6 Time t
    UNIT 2-3 Unit key c(m)
For types LCHR and LRAW, the maximum number of places in a transparent database table is the value of the preceding INT2 field.
The types RAWSTRING and STRING have a variable length. A maximum length for these types can be specified, but has no upper limit.
The type SSTRING is available as of release 6.10 and it has a variable length. Its maximum length must be specified and is limited to 255. The advantage of this type compared with CHAR, is that it is assigned to the ABAP type string.
The table below shows the data types of the ABAP Dictionary that are based on the predefined types in the above table, and that can be addressed in an ABAP program. The elementary components of these data types are converted to predefined ABAP data types according to the final column in the above table, whereby the number of places m of each type is converted to lengths.
Data types in the ABAP Dictionary Data types in ABAP
Data element Elementary data type, Reference type
Structure, Database table, View Structured data type
    Table type Table type
    Note
As of release 6.20, a component of structures or database tables that has the type LANG can be identified as a text language. The text language is used for the conversion of character-type components of the structure when importing data from data clusters and for RFC between MDMP systems and Unicode systems.

  • Data element creation for custom 'data element orgchart'

    Hi all,
I'd like to create my own Data element orgchart, using self-developed functional modules to achieve more flexibility in outputting data. Is any recommendations or examples for in-out interface of such modules?
    Regards,
    Sergey Aksenov

    Hi Sergey,
What are you trying to achieve here? It sounds like you want to create new structures or use FMs to replace the data retrieval for the existing structures. This cannot be done in OrgChart, at least not through the AdminConsole.
The structure is called in one call, as well as the data in the nodes. However, for each data source (e.g. NakisaRFC) used in a node there will be a call. For example, if you show position data from HRP1000 and employee data from PA0001 in a node then there will be 2 calls (which calls the data for all nodes at once). You can use an FM to do one call, but this would be in the view and not in the structure. The details panel makes multiple calls to retrieve data, so you can write an FM to call all data in one call rather than many.
You should refer to page 58 of the OrgChart Admin Guide for more information on custom RFCs.
    Best regards,
    Luke
