Power went out during importing to library

Hi everyone. I am currently deployed in Iraq, So the power situation isn't exactly the greatest. I have a pretty good number of songs on my external hard drive (in excess of 65000) so the import process takes a really long time. My Itunes library is stored on another external harddrive (ie. hard drive to hard drive transfer). A lot of the songs are WMA format so the transfer takes even longer because of the conversion. So here is my question... I was in the midst of the transfer (using "add folder to library), the already formatted songs had been transferred and I had been waiting three days for all of the converting to finish in the other songs when the power suddenly went out turning both of my hard drives off. So, of course the conversion process stopped leaving me with half a library imported and no way to tell which ones were moved over and which ones were not converted (without going through by hnd that is- not an option with such an extensive library). Is there a way to contiunue the import/conversion from where I left off? And also, is there a way to prevent this from happening in the future? Thanks for all yor help!

I'm not trying to be smart here but have you heard of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)?
From Wikipedia, "A UPS is inserted between the source of power (typically commercial utility power) and the load it is protecting. When a power failure or abnormality occurs, the UPS will effectively switch from utility power to its own power source almost instantaneously." See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptiblepowersupply
So a UPS will keep your computer going in the event of a power failure, however it can only do that for as long as its batteries last which may not be long enough to complete the iTunes conversion you were in the middle of. At least it would give you the opportunity to gracefully stop the conversion - if that's possible.
With regard to your question about continuing the conversion; I'll leave that to others more knowledgeable about iTunes.

This is called "stealing". You do not have the legal right to give her the music you have in your iTunes library unless you are the copyright holder.
when syncing it it said she had to update her phone software first
That's not quite what it said.  Someone should have paid more attention to the great big warning about the possibility of losing data if the phone wasn't backed up.
We cannot find her new photos. Please help and there was 100 new pics. Is there any way we can get them back. I already have the program Asoftech - but it doesnt seem to register the iphone only C and D drive. Please help!
It restored the backup that was made on your computer 6 months ago, which did not contain those photos. You're wasting your time trying to find them on the phone. They don't exist.
Hopefully, your friend syncs her phone to her own computer on a regular basis. She needs to plug her phone into her computer and restore it from her last backup. That will restore it to the state it was in when the backup was made.
She also needs to get in the habit of extracting the photos on a regular basis, like she would from any other digital camera.

  • Power went out during installation

I was installing the new mountain lion and the power wentoutand when I started up my iMac it was setting up like a brand new computer. Now it says I have no files on the computer but when I look at the storage window it still shows all my files. Not sure what's going on and how to fix it.

If you restart your Mac while holding down the Option key, you will be presented with boot options. Select Recovery HD and select restore (or if that's unavailable select Fresh Install) and follow the prompts. If you have a Time Machine back up, you should try to restore from that, then download and install Mountain Lion again to preserve your personal data etc. If not, you may have to set up your Mac like a new unit.
Power interruptions during software updates / upgrades are a major issue. I use a UPS (Uninteruptted Power Supply) device with my Macs and key external Storage (Drobo) to help minimise power outages, but even they have limited back up power - depending on the capacity of the UPS unit purchased: the higher the Va rating, the longer battery back up running time you get.
I hope you manage to get your system up and running without too much inconvenience.

  • How to fix everything when power goes out during install? [SOLVED]

last night I was installing kde and during the install process the power went out. I tried uninstalling kde, but pacman said dependencies were missing (I need dependencies to remove stuff?), so I tried reinstalling the kde group and that seems to have worked.
What is the best way to recover from something like this and how can I be sure everything is now fixed?

you can skip pacmans dependency checks with the argument -d.
as far as i know, you can't fix files that were destroyed by a power outage.
in my experience, it's rather rare that power loss destroys files (provided you use a stable file system).
usually it's sufficient to do a thorough file system check with the repair option enabled (don't do this while the filesystems are mounted or at least mount them read-only). usually you can invoke such a file system check with shutdown -Fr now.

Just got NEW Apple TV, The status light went out during final part of setup and it no longer works.  Any ideas?

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

Chances are, there was a signficant power surge or voltage fluctuation just before the power went out. This type of thing can cause the AirPort Extreme to reset back to default settings.
If this occurs, your only option is re-configure the device again, just as you did originally.
In order to improve your chances this next time this happens, (especially if you live in an area where thunderstorms are severe), a good quality surge suppressor / voltage limiting power strip will really help, and may save you the entire device or a nearby computer next time something like this occurs.

I can't get my Mac to turn on? Our power went out and it is now unresponsive.  I have tried the usual way to power it up but am not getting anything. Does it need to be reset?

    Which Mac model?
When you say not getting anything - do you mean no sounds, beeps, etc?
It is possible that your Mac's motherboard or power supply are damaged.

  • The power went out while installing the software update..!

The power went out while installing the new Apple TV software update..! Now the LED flashes all the time, shows the apple logo and never boots.

I've already tried to restart with no result. I bought the microUSB cable and iTunes recognized it. I restored the firmware with success but when i disconect the usb cable the AppleTV is dead. It doesn't respond (LED is off) when i connect the power or when i use the remote. Now the LED flashes only when i connect it with the microUSB cable. I tried several times to restore the firmware with success but when i disconnect the microUSB, AppleTV seems dead.

  • Power went out and now spinning ball of death

This morning the power went out while I had been working in InDesign and Illustrator. I came in and saved the project before the back up power went out but did not get the Mac powered off completely before the back up stopped. When the power came back on, I restarted the mac and Indesign, and my project is now constantly getting the spinning ball of death; I can't even recover it anymore in Indesign (I can open the file, but the recovery was lost). ALL other programs are fine. Just indesign.
I went to look for help online and found a recommendation to turn everything off, unplug mac, let it rest then hold the power button down and replug the power then power the mac back on, and now my fan is running at super high speed and I still am having huge problems with InDesign. 1) can you tell me how to get the fan back to the way it was and 2) what do I do about spinny rainbow ball in Indesign.
    HELP!!!!!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
For the fans issue, first reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 If it doesn't work, it's possible that the computer has a hardware problem.
Apart from that, it's possible that your hard disk got damaged because of the power outage. To check if it's OK, open Disk Utility (it's in /Applications/Utilities), choose "Macintosh HD" in the sidebar and verify the disk. If it shows a problem, start in OS X Recovery (hold Command and R keys while your computer is starting), open Disk Utility and repair the Macintosh HD partition. If it couldn't be repaired, the hard disk has to be replaced

  • Power went out, can't open file I was working on earlier.

    I use photoshop CS5 on windows 7.
Been working on a file with a few layers, then the power goes out so my computer "crashes". When I reboot my computer, I am unable to open the file I was working on earlier and instead, get the message "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." The file is still .psd and I don't have a preview for the file anymore:
Is there anyway to recover the file?

Saving's not really a problem for me, since I ctrl+s every 5-10 mins or when I make a really important change.
I guess I have a similiar problem with this person:

but its really hard for me to believe the file's gone for good since I've been working on it for the past week...
    I guess I'll consider upgrading :\
