Powerbook 1.25 with Lacie Photon 19 display - problem

Hi,
I'm trying to use my Powerbook G4 1.25ghz with an external Lacie Photon 19 Vision but I'm having some problems.
The ext. display is connected through DVI and when I try to set the ext display resolution to 1280 x1024 the whole image trembles/jumps i.e. is is not at all stable. Refresh rate is only 60mhz. I have to reduce to resolution to 1152 in order ot get a stable image. I have tried with the powerbook closed and open but it doesn't change anything.
According to the documentation it should work??
Any help would be more than appreciated.
Thanks
Wilhelm

If you feel up to going through the trouble, download and install SwitchRes X (I recommend SwitchRes X Control Panel over the full version) and under the Resolutions/Display tab is a button labeled "Export DDC." Click on it and it will generate a text file. Post the resulting text here and I'll help you sift through it for any clues as to what may be going wrong.

Attach the power supply, plugin the keyboard and mouse, close the lid, an press a key on the keyboard.

In the "Arrangements" pane of "Displays" System Preferences unclick "Mirror" and drag the menu bar in the picture to the picture of the external monitor.

  • Hot Sync with Non-latin Character Display Problem

I have a XP Home Desktop with Palm Desktop 4.01 installed. When I do a hot sync with my Sony Clie T655C, the chinese characters are display correctly in both XP home Desktop and the Clie.
Now, I have a netbook with window7 Starter installed for travelling use. It took me a while to resolve the problem on the hotsync with window 7 starter and sony clie. At the end, I have Palm desktop v6.2 and Palmhotsyncsetup from pimlico on the netbook. I am able to do a hotsync with cradle/cable, but not through network (with TCP/IP not listen error message).
I have installed the chinese, English, french IME for the window 7 Starter netbook. I am able to type Chinese character in Notepad and Word and display the character correctly. I am able to save the file ( filename in both chinese and english character), re-open it and all characters are displayed correctly.
But with Palm Desktop v6.2, I am able to type chinese and the characters are displayed correctly in calendar/data book. When I close the palm desktop and re-open it again. All the characters become "?", as a result, I can not fully evaluate the software Pimlico for window desktop. As it only works with Palm desktop v6.2.
    Any suggestion?

  • Display problem in JRE1.5 same works with 1.4.2

I have a complex swing GUI code with JTree that has display problem. The code works well with JRE1.4.2. When opened with JRE1.5_<> the display is not working. Resizing with a mouse displays though. Programmatic resize doesn't work.

I suggest you compile with 1.5 using the appropriate values of the -source and -target options to the javac command that cause it to emit 1.4 code - and see what happens.
And also review the changes and bug fixes made between the two Java versions that you're comparing, looking for changes that account for the difference you're seeing.

  • Display Problem - Video noise with 15" Powerbook and 23" Studio Display

I just bought a used 23" Studio Display to act as a second monitor for my 1.0 GHz 15" Powerbook. In my set up, the display is rather noisy -- there are consistant flickering lines of white pixels throughout the display. The lines are worst in dark areas, though they may just be showing up under contrast. The Powerbook it is connected to still looks normal.
The first strange thing is that the display works perfectly with another 1.25 GHz 15" Powerbook I have to test it on. In both cases, I have connected the monitor to the Powerbooks with a new Apple brand powered DVI to ADV Adapter.
The second strange thing is that the display seemed to act fine until I reinstalled my Wacom tablet driver so that it would work with dual displays. I've uninstalled the driver, but it the problem is still there.
The third strange thing is that the display is fine while booting up. The blue boot up screen is very crisp looking and noiseless. It only starts showing noise when the login screen shows up.
Any thoughts about what may be causing the problem or how to fix it would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Powerbook 15" G5 dual 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   23" studio display

Well I called AppleCare yesterday and, believe it or not, we actually got the USB ports acting normally - well at least I can boot up with the keyboard plugged into the back of the monitor.
They had me reset the Open Firmware and that seemed to do the trick. Of course, the night before I updated to 10.4.10 so that may have had something to do with it, too. No idea.
As for the power sensor button thing, they wanted me to plug the monitor into a different system, either at a Genius Bar or a friend or whatnot to see if it would behave in the same manner - not wanting to activate. I took it to school with me and hooked it up to one of my teacher's G5 and it behaved the same way. It took like 15 times touching the sensor to bring the system up.
So I'll be calling them back and see where they want to go with this. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a new shiny monitor - or not...

  • External display problems with snow leopard

I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my Macbook and it's created lots of problems with my LCD external display:
    - The display won't work at its native resolution (1680x1050) - it will flash up an image for 1/10 of second and then go black. I can only get it to work at a lower resolution, which looks AWFUL.
    - If I try to start up my Macbook with the lid closed and the display connected, the display won't work at all (it jams on the start up screen). It only works if I keep both of them running
I never had these problems when using Leopard. I've searched lots of forums and found that many people are having similar problems with external displays. Apple still haven't fixed the bug after repeated efforts from people to get if fixed.
Here are some threads (now closed) on this if you're looking for solutions:

    Common suggested fixes are:
    - Force OS X to use LCD font smoothing (does not work for me)
    - Clear the PRAM on start-up (does not work for me)
    - Delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist (does not work)
    - Change energy management setting to high performance (only works on graphics cards in Macbook 15" and 17").
From reading these forums it appears that this is a well-know bug. Has anyone else got any suggestions to fix this? And why hasn't Apple fixed this yet after so many people bringing it to their attention? It's clearly a bug that wasn't in Leopard.

I'M FED UP WITH APPLE! They've always been a little shady, but the last half of 2010 took the cake!
First it was the iPhone 3g "upgrade" to IOS4 which was garbage and killed my ability to use the 3g until I figured out how to crack the software, wipe the thing clear then reinstall the original software. Next up was purchasing the iphone 4 as a Christmas gift for someone running tiger on their mac, only to find out that the iphone 4 doesn't work on tiger when they tried to sync their contacts - and then having to rush out and purchase snow leopard so that they could enjoy my gift. Then I install Snow Leopard (note - I purchased the family pack) onto my own leopard-running(10.5.+) powerbook only to have the external LCD display I've been using for years suddenly stop working.
Oh, okay, to be fair, it works IF I RESIGN MYSELF TO SET it to "mirror image" (which defeats the purpose of having multiple displays) and drop the resolution down to a pathetic, unsharp, nearly distored setting that is almost painful to look at knowing that this monitor was just A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO showing me crystal clear images.
Then I exhaust myself trying to find a fix only to discover that APPLE in their infinite brilliance (AKA - their torture of loyal customers) knows of the issue - worked it out - then created an update that created the issue all over again. I'm so done! No more macs. I'm going back to the evil land of PCs. At least there, you know you're getting crap, it doesn't sneak up on you after getting you to trust it time and time again.

  • Powerbook 3400 display problem.

Everything was fine yesterday. But today, the 3400 had a new problem. The display has raised up (half an inch) and I can no longer see the top menu bar. The bottom half inch is black.
So far, I have tried the following:
Checked the appearance control panel to make sure a picture is not covering anything.
    Checked display settings.
    Enabled 9.1 base extension set.
Trashed any preference files that were modified between yesterday and today.
Zapped the pram and rebuilt the desktop.
Ran First aid from start up CD.
None of that helped, so I performed a clean install back to OS 9.04. and the problem still remained. Next, I opened the unit up and removed the keyboard. Then, removed the brightness and speaker grill and reseated the ribbon connections and pressed down firmly. All to no avail,
so I initialized the drive and again did a clean install, but that did not work either.
This forum has saved the 3400 in the past, and hopefully it can save it again. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • External LaCie HD  to display both  its  Mac and PC partitons. HOW?

My external HD (LaCie 250 Gb) is partitioned this way:
    180 Gb - Mac formatted
    70Gb - PC formatted
The partition has been done a few years back with Mac OSX 10.2 using its standard disk utility - that’s all I know about tech details of this setup.
The only problem is that when I plug this LaCie 250 Gb into my MacBookPro , only Mac partition is visible.
PC formatted partition does not appear at all.
(My Mac displays any other external PC formatted drives without any problems)
How to make this external LaCie HD to display both its Mac and PC partitions on my Mac?
Thank you all who help me!

    The PC partition is FAT32.
The program you suggested is commercial but I just can't afford to spend on software that may or may not be suitable...
Any other options to see this PC partition on my Mac, fellow Mac users?

  • Powerbook screen issues with blue pixels replacing colors

This is my Grandma's computer. It is a Powerbook G4 1.5 GHZ running mac os 10.5.6. It took a trip and she might have possibly dropped it. The issue is with the LCD display. Blue pixels seem to be coming on too much, especially on the edges of the screen. BASICALLY, some spots of color seem to be replaced by blue pixels. Is it a mother board issue, an LCD issue, or a display cable issue? I want to try hooking up an external monitor, but haven't done so yet.

The external monitor would be a good thing to try. If the pixel artifact also appears on the external, it would imply a problem with the graphics chip. If not, it would imply a problem with the internal display or its connections. When pixels are involved, it is often an internal display problem.
If you have the original install discs, you could also try running the Apple Hardware Test and see if anything shows up in the form of an error code.
    Good luck!

  • Is there a way to create a custom screensaver with pics/slides that display for different amounts of time?

Is there a way to create a custom screensaver with pics/slides that display for different amounts of time? Or even add a "video slide" into the screensaver?
My business has 3 TVs displayed in our lobby, each with its own apple TV and they are all linked to the same photo stream. Currently the Atv screensaver displays the photostream pictures of our products for the default 3 seconds. We just added pics/slides that now display messages and useful info for our customers but I want that info to be displayed for a longer period of time than the pictures to give people a chance to read it.
I tried using flickr and powerpoint as a work around but no luck.  I created a slide in powerpoint with play length of 15 secs and saved it as a wmv file.  I added that file to a "screensaver" set in flickr and pointed the Atv screensaver to that flickr set.  It still displays everything, pics and the wmv file at the default 3 sec.
I know I can increase the duration of all pics in the screensaver to display for longer but the goal is to have the pics display at 3 secs and the info slides to display at 15 secs.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    No that's not possible.
If you have any suggestions that you think might enhance the Apple TV you can send Apple your feedback here

  • Message: To play this movie in HD, you must have a computer with a built-in display ...

I rarely use iTunes, prefer, for obvious reasons to own physical media (which is prompting this question). But I do have an iPad 4 so I have to use it.
I bought a movie on iTunes and have downloaded it to a new brand new Windows 8 laptop. I am getting a message "To play this movie in HD, you must have a computer with a built-in display or have it connected to a display that supports HDCP."
My laptop is running a display at 1366 x 768 resolution and it is hooked up to a separate monitor using the HDMI out to the DVI input. Why am I getting this message and what is the workaround? I don't think that it's right that I have to re-buy the movie in standard definition to to watch it.
Also, as I have a 16 GB iPad, I typically don't have space available to store a 4GB movie but if I download the movie to my laptop and connect my iPad to my laptop, if I free up space will I be able to watch the movie on my iPad 4?
You can probably tell I'm not a fan of iTunes. Why does Apple insist on making everything so difficult? The iPad 4 with Retnia Display is the only Apple product I own and previously I have played this movie on my iPad.

  • Display Problem with my Mac Pro and LG Flatron Wide Monitor in Mountain Lion

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Mac Pro has display problems with my LG Flatron display.  The image is displayed with a black bar on the right and on the bottom.  And the left side of the content is not visible.  I tried every resolution available in the Display System Preferences, they are different in terms of how big the black bars are, and what part is not visible, but none of them are correct.  I held down the option key to try to detect displays or switch to resolutions that are not normally available.  When I restart the image is lined up with the display, but if the display ever goes to sleep or gets turned off, the image reverts to being off center, and the only way I can get it back is to restart...  The interesting thing is that this monitor works fine with the same machine if I reboot using BootCamp into Windows 7.  The Monitor also works fine, connecting the same connector to a Mac Mini, although that mac mini is running 10.6 and not Mountain Lion.  I've reset the SMC and restarted countless times, I don't see any other levers to pull or things to try...
