Powerbook and iPod  issue

Hello everyone. I just switched from the PC world to the Mac world and am very pleased so far.
Before I got my Powerbook, I had a 4th Generation iPod (20 gig Photo) that was hooked into a PC. I backed up my music and reformatted it to work with a Mac. Now when i try to update the iPod Mac I am getting a message that says:
The iPod "XXXXX" cannot be updated. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
I am the only user on my PB andI am set up as the administrator. I did a restore of the iPod and when I hooked up the two it brought in all my music, but not photos and contacts.
The iPod shows up as mounted in Finder and is listed on iTunes as well.
Please help this newbie!!!
Thanks,
Jeff

with the ipod connected, do the following:
select the ipod icon on the desktop
    press Cmd-I (get info)
in the window, there is a section at the bottom called Ownership & Permissions
click the triangle next to Details
if the lock icon is locked, click on it to unlock the ipod (it will ask for your admin password)
set all the users (Owner, Group, Others) to all have Read & Write access
    close the window

  • IMac, PowerBook and iPod sync problem

It worked before, but it will not work now.
    I have an iPod 5G and a PowerBook1.5Ghz, and an intel-iMac 2.33Mhz and am running iTunes 7.3.
I just want to sync the three of them so ALL three have the SAME library, but now if I sync the iPod to the one computer or the other I get that computers library. It will no longer update the three of them to have the same songs.
ie: If I add songs to the PowerBook it will sync to the iPod and update the library in the iPod. If I add songs to the iMac it will sync to the iPod and update the library in the iPod and remove the songs I added from the PowerBook.
Is this a step back to the old ways of iTunes with the new version 7.3?

You've done an excellent job of describing exactly how synchronization works. One computer is in charge and the iPod is synced to the contents of that computer. You're trying to put two computers in charge so they take turns.

  • Sony Head Unit and iPod Issue

I just got the Sony Xplod CDX GT620IP head unit installed the other day and I'm pretty happy with it. The only problem is that I have the iPod Ready Feature (allows you to control iPod through the head unit). I plan on keeping an iPod in the glove compartment so that I have a hard drive full of music waiting in the car. However, when I turn the head unit and car off, the iPod is in the idle state, but displays "You may safely disconnect the device" even though the head unit no longer powers the iPod. When everything is off, the iPod will remain on until the battery dies out or if it's unplugged. I don't want to unplug the iPod, I just want it to shut down when the unit is turned off. Is there a way to fix this?
EDIT: I have an iPod Nano, iPod Video, and the iPod touch, all of which experience the same problems (not turning off).If you have solutions for any of them, I'd be happy to know. Thanks in advance.

    Hi guys,
Just signed up to these forums having done a google search for this same problem! I'm in the UK and this is affecting my 2008 CDE-9880R in exactly the same way Adrian describes - highly annoying having purchased this unit to avoid this kind of problem! So much for an Alpine/Apple collaboration!
I am currently resorting to the 'pause' function on the headunit before keying off the ignition. Although I spoke to an Alpine tech guy at Alpine UK on the phone today and he is sending out another small lead that apparently goes inline with the current lead. He mentioned something about the headunit not recognising 80gb classics properly??? Not sure whether this will fix the problem but I'll keep you posted. I think a firmware issue is more likely to be the problem. At least Alpine seem to be aware of the problem and not just fobbing people off.
    Cheers,
    Mark.

  • ITunes 7.2 and iPod issues-- read before you upgrade to it...

I am having issues uploading any of my music I purchased to my iPod since i upgraded to 7.2. Since I have upgraded to 7.2, I have had no success in getting ANY of my purchased music back on to my iPod. Back on it you say? That's because I first thought the syncing issue was due to a single bad corrupted file somewhere, so I restored my iPod, clearing 15GB of music and stuff, and tried to reload everything. I can still upload music I imported from CD's, but any playlist that contains a purchased item causes iTunes to crash before the upload finishes. I have found many other people to have this same problem.
My advice, if you want to keep your purchased music intact, DO NOT UPGRADE TO 7.2 until they work out the bugs. Somehow this stems from their DRM issues, and with iTunes Plus and its DRM Free choices, it has somehow made our older DRM music a major issue. Unless someone has a miracle answer to this, I will keep wishing I still had 7.1, when life was easier and free of problems. When music could roam freely on my iPod, and my iMac would not crash every time iTunes showed it's younger face. Ohhh, the good old days. When music was music and my iPod had music on it. When buying music was buying, not renting. Remember those days?

  • Syncing iMac PowerBook and iPod

    Ok, here goes my problem.
    a) I have an iMac at home with ... say 2800 songs.
    b) a PowerBook at work with ... say 1500 songs.
    c) and the Ipod with 2000 songs.
I want them all to have the same songs, BUT
without duplicating and most importantly without deleting them!
I am afraid to sync any of the three because I think that I might lose any of the songs.
    Any instructions for dummies?
    Many thanks,
    Julio

    Many thanks!
Since there are more than 1000 songs, is there a way to avoid going song by song to see if I have them on each computer?
I mean, I know that out of 2000 songs on each computer, at least 1500 must be the same ones. This is, I have the same 1500 songs both in my iMac, and the Powerbook. Is there a way to know or to transfer only the new songs added to my PB without exploring song by song to see if it is repeated or not?
    Thanks,
    Julio

Well, although iTunes 7.1.0.59 (and now 7.1.1.5) cleared up some problems with running/installing iTunes software on it, Vista isn't really officially compatible at the moment.
What exactly is happening when installing the iTunes/iPod software?
If you are getting any error messages, please quote what ehey say, and/or when the problem occurs.
Be sure that you've upgraded to the latest iTunes version (7.1.1.5). Here is the download page for it:

  • Yet More ITunes 7 and Ipod Issues

So, it seems like everyone else, I've been cursed with the [deleted] software that Apple released far prematurely.
I've rolled back to 6.0.4, and now my ITunes functions properly. My Fifth-Generation Ipod, however, is down hard. It connects to the computer, is never displayed in the Finder, and locks up at the "Do Not Disconnect" phase, which never flashes like it's supposed to.
I've attempted to put it into disk mode, but it won't take, for some reason. I've also run the built-in diagnostics, and it's not a problem with the IPod itself - it passed with flying colors.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

    Hi...
Yesterday I tried to watch a movie from a 5G Ipod in my macbook with Itunes 7.0.1....
Itunes recognized the Ipod but unfortunately it was impossible to watch any movie or video... there wasn't any problem listening music from the Ipod... !!!
The most strange was, I decided to quit trying in the macbook, and went to my old pc windows with Itunes... the Ipod was recognized and I could watch the movie without any problem...
Today... I went to the Apple store in Rotterdam (netherlands) where I bought the macbook, we try with another Ipod in my macbook, and it didnt work, then, we tried the Ipod in another macbook and it didn't work either.
I am little bit dissapointed, because It is supposed that an Ipod should work efficiently with a new macbook!!!!...
I do not know if I have missed to set in the system something before using the Ipod...
Hope that somebody could give me a good advise...

  • Charging PowerBook and iPods While Traveling to UK

I'm traveling to the UK from the US. I purchased the World Travel Adapter Kit, so I'm pretty sure I know what plug to use in UK - the huge 3 prong one!
We're also brining a 1st generation Nano and the new Shuffle. I was planning on charging those through my 12" PowerBook's USB connections while the PowerBook is charging.
    Should this work fine?
    12" G4 Powerbook; 24" iMac Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Josef,
Thanks for the reply. It makes sense
We'll be there this Sunday, spending our first four days in Bath. It's my first time in the UK and I am really really looking forwarded to this trip.
What I'm not looking forward to is the exchange rate, but what can you do?
    Thanks for the reply again.

  • I uninstalled itunes to fix some ipod issues, and now I tried to reinstall it but it says that it's already installed.

I uninstalled itunes to fix some ipod issues, and now I tried to reinstall it but it says that it's already installed. When I went to find the "icon" I can"t find it. When i looked in the download files I saw the downloads, but not the actual itunes "app". Please help thanks!

How did you uninstall it and what were your IPOD issues - that may help clarify the problem.

  • My Ipad 2 external speakers does not work and headphones has popping sound. This all occured at the same time as my Iphone and Ipod headphones only played mono (no, the "mono" option is not on). How can there be audio issue for all these devices?

My IPad 2 external speaker does not work and the original headphones have popping sound when used. This all occurred at the same time as my IPhone and IPod headphones only plays mono (and no, the "mono" option is not on) with the original headphones, as well as, other headphones tested.  How can there be audio issue for all these devices at the same time?
As you may have noted from the list of Apple devices I own, I believed in the Apple and the products it was producing; but it is hard to believe from my experience and the other voices within the Apple Community that we are all experiencing the same hardware issues. Especially since I recently, I upgraded to an IPhone 4g (no, my faith in IPhone 5 series is very little) and is experiencing the same audio problem as described above. So now, I am off to the Apple store again to be told that it’s a hardware problem on new IPhone. Really? Apple, what happen to the pride in the product you were producing?

Everyone does things a little differently. I love to "jam " along with iTunes ( or old Lp's) . Always have. That's where/how I've learned to play .
I'm sure leonieDF is giving a proper way to jam along on a keyboard with an iTune. He blows my mind all the time with what he knows. Nuff respects to him !
What I do is make a GB project I call "Jam With". I'll make several new tracks that are blank. Just has a few instruments named in the blank tracks. You can change those per song ...
Because I'm not concerned about changing the pitch / key.... of the iTune or the tempo ... I can simply play along with it.
    Peace,
    P. Dreadie

  • Cannot restore ipod and other issues.

If someone can solve my ipod issues, you will totally make my birthday. Here's the deal. Sometimes when I connect my Ipod to my computer, it sees it as a just a removable disk drive. When that happens, Itunes tells me that my ipod is corrupt. When it tells me I should restore, it then tells me error 1418. I followed the steps on the post on here about that error code and it doesn't work. However, sometimes my computer recognizes my ipod, a message will pop up from memory card manager saying failed ot locate supported file types or there are no photos found on this device. Then my ipod will sync in itunes and start copying files. It says it's copying (which in actuality it's not copying anything or i might get a song or two to copy to my ipod) but then it stops and a message pops up saying, The ipod "Mike's ipod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found. I just don't know what to even try anymore. I've looked at so many posts and still nothing works. Please if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it so much!!!

    Hi,
Ok, there seems to be a problem... I've now been running Disk First Aid Erase on my iPod for an hour and a half. So far the blue bar showing progress seems to be stuck on about 5mm in...
Btw... there's been 2 people w probs posting here (I couldn't find the link to make a new post and joined this as it had similar probs)- the original guy has sorted his problem. Mine revolves around an iPod that showed up corrupted when I plugged into my Mac after not using the iPod for a couple of months.
iTunes can't restore it - error sign... As it also now shows up unrecognizable when I plug it into my Mac but with a "you can intialize" possibility I'm trying that as suggested. That takes me to Disk First Aid where pod erase seems to be stuck....
Hope somebody out there can help... thanks!

  • After replacing the hard drive on my G4 Powerbook and reinstalling Tiger I am no longer able to synch between itunes and itunes, it seems that the software on the ipod is of later date than itunes and I am unable to update itunes to the state prior..

After replacing the hard drive on my G4 Powerbook and reinstalling Tiger I am no longer able to synch between itunes and my ipod (Classic 160gb) it would seem that the software on the ipod is of later date than itunes and I am unable to update itunes to the state prior to the original harddrive's failure for Tiger OSX 10.4.11
Any ideas on the subject would be most helpful
    Thanks in advance
    Dingoh

The last security update released for Tiger users was the 2009-005 update. The latest version of QuickTime is 7.6.4. The last version of iTunes that can run on Tiger is 9.2.1, because 10.0 only supports Mac OS X Leopard and later.
So, are you on version 9.2.1?
Was it Tiger or Leopard you had on the drive before?

I have that exact same problem! It plays albums fine. But individual songs including ones downloaded from iTunes either skip or play the music of another totally different song. All play fine on iTunes and my iPhone... Got this one to replace my dying 5th gen classic.
I hope there is a fix for this, cause it *****!!!!
