Powerbook as display/HDD for Powermac????

I am wanting to know if I can buy a Powermac and effectively use my Powerbook Ti as display and hardrive.??
Is this possible.?
I am quite happy with the 15" LCD display of my Powerbook but the hardware needs updating. I want to buy a Powermac G4 and hook it up as the main computer (ie: Startup drive, apps etc). It just seems a waste to toss the Powerbook and buy a completely new display and tower.
I also want the flexibility of still having my laptop..
Any help would be appreciated.

If you connect the two computers via ethernet, they remain two independent computers. If you wish, you can easily set them up so that each has access to all the files on the other's hard drive. But neither can use the other's hard drive as a startup disk, since each has to start up independently to be visible to the other over the network. And neither can use the other's processor, memory, audio or video circuitry, monitor, etc., under any circumstances.
Using Apple Remote Desktop, with which I'm not familiar, you might be able to control one computer from the other, but it would still be running as a separate computer from the one you were sitting at — you'd just be running it remotely.

Connecting a videocamera to an external HDD for video download

I recently purchased a 250GB Lacie HDD to which I save downloaded raw and edited video. I was told by my Apple dealer that I should be able to connect my videocamera to the FireWire port of the Lacie HDD which in turn is connected to the FireWire port on my PowerBook G4 (daisy chaining) and then control the camera in iMovie to download video to the Lacie HDD. I have tried this unsuccessfully. Any ideas how or if this should work?
By way of information, I use a card reader which is connected to the FireWire port of the Lacie HDD for downloading digital stills to iPhoto. This works beautifully to download images to my iPhoto library which is on the Lacie HDD.

The only way you can do that is "real time"
ie plug the camera into the computer - Start a project on the external disk -hit capture now in iMovie - start shooting.
Edit: I doubt you can daisy chain though things.

What is the best USB 3.0 (small) ext HDD for recording my music on

I would like to know what is the best portable usb 3.0 external HDD for recording my music on.
Because since today i am a very happy new owner of the new Retina Macbook Pro 2.3 GHz, with 8 GB of Ram and 256 GB of Flash.
.... and yes it has the Samsung Retina Display
Since 8 years i use Logic Pro and because the flash is only 256 Gb i want to record on a external drive
and not on the internal storage (and especially now with usb 3.0).
But i would like to know what is the best portible external HDD for this function.
500 GB is enough for me because i have 2x a 2 TB for my Mac Pro and Macbook pro where i make back ups from all my music (2 back ups just to be safe).

I cannot speak specifically about any of those Ext HDs because i don't own any of them..
But...
Make sure the external drive is 7200rpm.... and not 5400rpm or a 'green' drive with something called "varipower' or a similar name...

Need videocard that supports dual monitors and Rotation -for PowerMac G5

I'm looking for a videocard that supports dual monitors and Rotation for PowerMac G5. I've got two Dell 2407WFP monitors rotated to 90 -I've been running an ATI Radeon X1900 256 pcie16 but apparently it is over heating -not even exactly sure if that indeed is the case but all the symptoms I've looked up online point to this problem. A flashed card is a WinPC card that has been modified to accept a Mac ROM to provide for Mac compatibility.
Occasionally, soldering and other physical modifications are required.
Without this modification, a WinPC graphics card cannot be used in a MAc.
Without this modification, Mac users are limited to only a handful of used, OEM options.
The Geforce 7800 GS is the only 7800 card that may be used in a G5 (or G4).
The card must have been or be converted to Mac compatibility.
For dual monitors (DVI) the best performance choices are the Geforce 6800 Ultra (flashed or OEM), a rare, but occasionally available Geforce 6800 GT (flashed), an OEM Radeon X800XT (use ADC/DVI adapter on ADC port) a rare and expensive Radeon FireGL X800 (flashed).
These are the only performance oriented cards to offer dual digital display support.
For less demanding graphics work, an OEM Radeon 9650 offers dual digital output.

I am looking to add more Firewire 400 and USB 2.0 ports to my Dual 2.7 PowerMac G5. I don't need a combo card (two separate cards is fine). I was wondering which brand card works well with my Mac and OS X. I had a FireWire card that I moved from my Dell to my PowerMac but had a number of problems with a couple connected HDD's and Final Cut Pro. The card which I think was from Belkin was listed as OS X compatible on its packaging.

I've used OWC FW800, Aaxeon PCIe, and a number of Sonnet USB2 (and combo).
Depends on how many USB2 ports, but for FW400 and USB2 combo should do fine. With FW800 I'd go for independent cards.

Could I have damaged my hdd for unadequate ventilation?

Hi, anyone thinks I could have damaged the internal HDD of mi mid 2011 mac mini by having papers/magazines on top of it while using? my HDD is not responding or restoring either and windows PC does not recognizes it now that I have taken it out of the mini and put in on an enclosure.
I had updated OSx to mountain lion (lion was on it originally) so I don't know if that can make your hdd work harder than the original OSx on the mini when purchased.
At first it got slow while playing games like bejeweled and stuff like that but one day it just didn't boot, and tried several times to restore it but it kept failing. So I have taken it out of the mini and try to use an external enclosure to format it but windows 7 doesn't show it on the explorer.
I have screwed up another hdd for a dell inspiron laptop before and the only explanation I can think of is maybe overheating because mi mac mini didn't had proper ventilation (I mean, nothing on top or besides it in the desktop) so I'm starting to think that maybe that happened again.
If i remember correctly I ran hardware diagnostics once but it didin't said anything was wrong except for the hdd that needed to be fixed and after that I tried to format but it didn't respond.
I used my mini for garageband recording, casual games and the usual internet/social network stuff... so if I get a new hdd I may get something a bit faster (came with 500 GB 5400 RPM HDD, I'm thinking of 7200 RPM) to improve garageband responsiveness.

According to Google Laboratories test of hard drive failure, the largest test of hard drive reliabiity to date (which you can download here) many accepted truisms about hard drive failure factors are simply not true. Perhaps the greatest surprise was the fact that excessive heat was NOT a significant factor in drive failure. So it is unlikely you caused the failure becasue of running the drive too hot. That said and the Google Labs test aside I prefer to keep my drives well ventilated and use enclosures that do a good job of conducting heat away from the mechanism.

I don't think you can realize it, because in SAP system there are 6 influncing factors:
Material Type
Plant
Industry sector
Transaction
Procurement indicator
SAP Delivery
Field selection is controlled by field references. You can assign field references to the influencing factors material type, plant, and industry sector in Customizing. SAP maintains the assignment of the field reference to the transaction codes, to the procurement types, and for the SAP delivery. You cannot change this assignment of these field references in Customizing.
So from my point of view, you can't use the factors of material type, plant and industry sector to distinguish different users' authorization.

I used a partitioned HDD for time machine, using a partition already containing other data files. I am now no longer able to view that partition in Finder. Disk Utility shows it in grey and "not mounted". Any suggestions of how to access the files?

Yes, sharing a TM disk is a bad idea, and disks are cheap enough so that you don't need to.

How to change the display name for Gmail aliases?

I have a Gmail account with multiple aliases. They look like this:
Joe User <[email protected]> (Primary)
Support <[email protected]> (Alias)
Billing <[email protected]> (Alias)
Works great. I'm trying to set up Apple Mail on my new MacBook to support the aliases as well. I am able to input the e-mail aliases, but the display names for all are 'Joe User' which defeats the purpose of having the aliases.
I have to imagine I can do this. Can someone help me out?

In another warehouse this function works properly. I am using OWB 10gR2 (10.2.0.1.31).

If you run OWB using the supplied shell script or batch file are there other errors on the console before the exception. OWB uses a component (OLAPI does some validation over and above any other) which dumps the errors on the the standard output which often illustrates some invalid metadata in the OLAP catalog.

So I'm going to buy a new one today but which one do i need? Like how many inch? And is it a SATA connection or something?

One thing is strange to me: I presume that your L300 notebook is pretty new one and I don't understand why you want to buy new HDD. Is warranty still valid?
Please check it. If the warranty is still valid contact nearest authorized service provider and I am sure you will get replacement for free.
If you want to buy it I also presume you want to replace it alone. So, remove the old HDD and on the white label you will find all necessary information about HDD.
Anyway, you need 2,5 SATA HDD.

Sales Order form error "Not able to retrieve Display values for Service"

Hi,
Few of our orders flash the below error message when the order is queried
"Not able to retrieve Display values for Service"
Below are the points I observed
1.The orders I am referring to are imported order via EDI interface.
2.The service reference type code has value of ORDER, however no other service related fields (like service reference line id) have any values.
3. The item is not a service item (service tab in Item setup is disabled)
4. Same item when imported with value of "Customer Ordered" in "service reference type code" field, does not throw an error.
5. If I update "service reference type code" with value null or change it to CUSTOMER_PRODUCT, the error disappears.
Can someone explain the significance of this column value and what could have been causing this error message?
May be there are some dependent fields/setups which must have a value when service reference type code =ORDER.

Maintain the dafault values using Tcode OISF with respective to Planning Plant you have to maintain the following values like Order Type, Main Work Center, Maint. Plant,Group,Group Counter,Business Area & Task List type.

VA01 Item category display only for specific order type

Hi,
I have a requirement to deactivate(display only) item category field in VA01 table item for certain order type . I tried the user exit MV45AFZZ(USEREXIT_FIELD_MODIFICATION). This is working only if the table item has a value. i.e I could able to enter an item category first and then enter the material and quantity.
So please suggest any alternative how to make the item category field(VBAP-PSTYV) column display only for centrain order type.

I have the same question. It seems that Adobe is almost impossible to contact (I ended up here at the forums to ask the same question).
I will never buy another Adobe product again if I can get another program to replace it. If this is customer service then it is NON EXISTENT!
I notice that your question has not been answered and why should you have to get the information from a forum? I know of no other company that makes you do this for simple product information.
NOT HAPPY with this version of arrogant customer service (nor am I happy about renting Photoshop products into the future - it is just a money grab in my opinion). I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere in future.
