PowerBook G3 boots to circle with red line through it.

Starting up the powerbook, I get the gray apple and then the circle with the line though it. What causes this?

Have you tried starting up from a bootable CD? If you do so, do you still get the same result?

Though I have doubts for success, you might try a SMC reset. It can do no harm. Otherwise, barring suggestions from others, the Apple Store or qualified repair facility is the last option.

I transferred all my itunes music from my old pc to a new laptop using an external hard drive. I can drag songs to out ipods, but when i try to add songs to my Iphone 4, I get the red circle with a line through it. It will not allow me to transfer music

All songs are sucessfullt loaded in itunes and I can drag songs to my husband's ipod without any problems. However, when I try to drag songs to my iphone 4, it will not let me. I get a red circle with a line through it. Why would it work from itunes to ipod but not to my iphone? HELP!!!

I go to tools and the options and I can't open any of the tabs at the top Eg I go to exceptions and I get a red circle with a line through it.This is the same for all of the options that have exceptions and saved passwords.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

I have been having a couple of problems with my imac and it said to do a clean install so i then copied an image of my hard drive and followed the instructions such as delete and formate the disc and then reboot the system with the setup disc in it i then did this and followed the instructions but i then came back to the system to find it had powered off for some reason so i then tried to reboot it and the apple in the middle of the screen then changes to a circle with a line through it has anybody got any ideas or do i think the worst and look for a new hard drive oh i forgot to mension it will not eject the setup disc!!!!

It sounds like your hard disk is not accessible, I would first you need to start your iMac with the system DVD that came with your system, then format the hard drive with disk utility, then install the Mac OS X on to your newly formatted drive.

My volume doesn't work- there's a circle with a line through it that pops up with I try to adjust it- does anyone know how to fix this?

I cannot adjust the volume on my mac- when I try to it shows up on the screen as max volume and underneath it there's a circle with a line through it. Any suggestions?

1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Highlight Internal Speakers / Headphones
    Make sure Mute is not enabled.
2. Remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

    Choose the method for:
    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window

When I first try to open it the pop us says: "You can't use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. Version: 9.2.1" When I try to update, it pops up to say "These apps cannot be accepted by your apple id - These apps were already assigned to another Apple ID and they will be available in that Apple ID's purchases list. If you don't have access to that Apple ID and want to receive future updates, you will need to purchase the application". I checked and there is nothing under the "purchases" in my App store. Then will say "update unavailable with this apple id - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canceled." Then the third pop up says "We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again". Just want to know how do to fix.

After I upgraded to Mavericks I was also having this message when I tried to update. There was a previous post about this problem which offered this simple solution which worked for me:

Got it! Thanx. What I did was go to my account, check that they had my new ID and Password which they did, then hit reset button. All fixed.

Can't move files - white circle with white line through it?

Suddenly I cannot move files from one drive to another, or from drive to desktop. Recently updated everything.
White circle with white line through it appears.
Network awaiting news footage. I'm stuck. What might this be?

Thanks for staying with me on this.
USB drive and errant file both have 'read and write' clicked. There is no 'ownership' choice in the info pop-up.
Nor is there 'Ignore ownership on this volume' choice for the USB drive.
I'm using an administrator account. I created a 'root' account, but it didn't seem to have any effect - didn't fix the problem. (I don't like messing around with 'root' account stuff.)
I'm not running as a 'client in a Mac OSX Server environment'. Just as an 'admin' with the one tower and a rotating bunch of external drives (projects).
I did a work-around for now ... shipped the 'unmoveable' file out to an ftp site (it would allow me to do this), and I haven't heard if the downloaded file is causing any problems on the other end (yet).
If I come across a solution I'll post. It may have something weird to do with that funky drive (now returned to its owner), and me creating this particular file that same day as the funky drive was giving me problems. (Though the file was not ON the drive.)
And the (almost new) computer did go down for a day last week ... would not reboot ... took it to the shop, nothing wrong with it, brought it home, it's been working fine ever since. Go figure.

you can purchase a replacement pair of grey installation DVDs for your MacBook Pro from either Apple or iFixit. If Startup Manager is only showing an OS X Installer volume, then it sounds like the Mavericks installer had a problem midway through its installation process. To fix this, you’re going to need to erase your internal disk and reïnstall your original version of OS X from the grey Mac OS X Install DVD, use Software Update to get it back to 10.6.8 (presuming that your MacBook Pro originally came with Snow Leopard), and then restore from Time Machine.

Are you referring to the *Do Not Disconnect* screen display while your iPod is plugged into and syncing with iTunes? Check out this Apple support document for its meaning and why you are receiving this icon. This icon always appears when you are syncing your iPod with iTunes. It's basically a warning message telling you that the iPod is currently in use and should not be removed.

Mike - I am using Windows 7 and I think my browser is Internet Explorer and I always use AOL to sign in.

While AOL uses IE as it's browser engine, it's and older version of IE (IE8) that DOESN'T have ActiveX filtering. Only IE10 and IE11 have the filtering.
BTW: If you have AOL software installed, (unless you're on a dialup connection and you NEED it to connect), you're basically taking up nearly a gigabyte of hard drive space for software that DOES NOTHING that the AOL website can't already do with Internet Explorer, or another browser. I was a "Windows/Mac connectivity specialist" for AOL in 2002 & 2003, and their software is what we geeks call "bloatware", meaning it's FILLED with all kinds of stuff that you'll never possibly use. My advice would be uninstall it altogether. Download Firefox. It's a much better browser than AOL or Internet Explorer. Download and install the Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers) and the Shockwave FULL Installer (All Other Browsers)
For ALL your AOL content, use your Member name and password to login at http://www.aol.com/ where you'll find your AOL Mail, AOL Headlines, your AIM Buddy List, and EVERYTHING that was part of the AOL software, only it's ALL on AOL's servers, not your hard drive.
