Powerbook g3 crashed (literally) off a table

I had a powerbook g3 that was working fine until it fell off of a T.V. type snack table. (children were involved) It landed on the power adaptor cord and that bent a little. I thought that it was still working but it turns out it was just running on the battery and when that died so did the computer. I have tried everything to get it to work (straightening the adaptor, taking off the keyboard, bending the contacts inside the power port etc.) The adaptor itself seems to be getting power it has sparked a couple times when I tried to get my voltmeter in there. I have online directions for taking it apart but I am wondering if I do take it to an empty case on the bottom, what are my chances it didn't blow a board or something? A loose wire I can probably fix. On the plus side I was able to convince my wife that a new computer was in order and she agreed. Love this imac. Has this happened to anyone else out there? I would appreciate any guidance at all on this issue. thanks, Greg.

macbro,
As Cornelius suggested, try another power adapter first. If available, the PB1400/3400/any G3/clamshell iBook adapters are interchangeable.
If the plug to the power adapter was bent, chances are you broke the solder joint that connects the female power port to the sound/power card. Any repair calls for the disassembly of the powerbook. If the power adapter plug wiggles and/or feels loose when plugged into the port, chances are this is the case.

  • InDesign Crashes When Dealing with Table

    Hi Folks,
    I'm running a 2012 MacBook Pro, OSX 10.8.4, and InDesign CS6 8.0.1
I have a document I've been working on for the better part of 1.5 years now (a physics book, lots of pictures, diagrams, equations, etc.)  This morning it was working fine.
A few hours later, there is one specific table at the end of a chapter on page 199 that appears corrupted.  All the data in the table magically disappeared.  Now, when I try to edit the table, delete the table, export the file, anything, everything stops and crashes the moment the table comes into play.
I first tried just deleting the table.  Causes InDesign to crash.
Then I tried exporting the file to IDML.  Causes InDesign to crash.
I've tried deleting preferences... still causes InDesign to crash.
I can export to PDF still.
The only issue appears to be with the file (and that particular table). Editing other files, or other tables in the document, still works fine.
Any ideas?  I'm happy to erase the problem content and continue, but I can't afford to throw the entire document away and start over...  and anytime I try to delete the table, edit the table, etc, the whole thing crashes.

  • InDesign crashes in time of table editing (cell's merge)

InDesign crashes in time of table editing (cell's merge). Not always, but 1 out of 3 times.

What version of ID? Is it fully patched? What operating system.

  • Missing SET DEFINE OFF exporting tables

Another minor bug exporting tables using the insert option is that no “SET DEFINE OFF” is created.
If values in the exported tables contains *“&”* characters, the user is asked to edit values.
    Example:
    1. Create a table with such a value:
    SET DEFINE OFF;
    CREATE TABLE FOO (COMPANY VARCHAR2 (64));
    INSERT INTO FOO VALUES ('Meier & Co');
    2. Exporting this table creates:
    -- Datei erstellt -Freitag-April-15-2011
    -- DDL for Table FOO
    CREATE TABLE "FOO"
    (     "COMPANY" VARCHAR2(64)
    REM INSERTING into FOO
    Insert into FOO (COMPANY) values ('Meier & Co');
    3. Running in SQLPlus:
    SQL> @export.sql
    Tabelle wurde erstellt.
Geben Sie einen Wert f³r co ein:

  • Where is my EXPORT dump file ? How to do BRTools off line table reorgan ?

    Hello,
Here was my BRTools Export output message :

But where is my Export dump file ?
Besides, could you tell me the procedures of using BRTools Export & Import to do off-line table reorgan ?
Due to some reasons, I can't do online table reorgan.

    Hi Ming,
I noted the OSS note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE in my previous message, already. You don't need any additional effort such as creating script, if you use brspace as I noted in my last message.
    Stop the SAP system, but not database then execute the command, below;
    1) brspace -u / -f tbreorg -t "CDHDR"
    2) At the incoming menu steps, select --> (8 - Table reorganization mode (mode)) .. offline
    3) Then continue with "c"
At the end of this steps, table and related indexes will be reorganized.
    You can update statistics by using the command, below after you complete the steps, above respectfully;
    brconnect -u / -c -f stats -t all -f collect -p 4

  • PowerBook G4 crashes having installed 10.4.6 - Help needed!

    Hi,
A composer colleague of mine's PowerBook G4 (2GB RAM) ran perfectly on OSX 10.3.9. To upgrade some music apps, he just went out and bought OSX 10.4.6 - which on the box says is compatible with Apple Macs with G3, G4 and G5 processors.
However, having installed it, the PowerBook perpetually crashes before it even fully boots. We cannot get to a full reboot.
We can, even now, boot from 10.3.9 on DVD; yet 10.4.6 crashes.
On my recommendation, my colleague went out and bought a full and new licensed version.
An hour with Apple Support yielded nothing - they keep saying his hardware must be at fault; btu this is a very well looked after 15" G4 PowerBook that until yesterday worked perfectly on 10.3.9 - so the hardware cannot be at fault.
Hence we are desperate and are hoping that someone else has encountered this and / or can offer real suggestions. He desperately needs the machine for upcoming music jobs and is now in a complete heap.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Kevin.

    Hans
    Thanks for your help.
We went back to basics and reformatted the hard drive. 10.4.6 will not install.
The machine will not install the original software discs either.
It does however boot up from an exact external backup copy of the machine before all this happened via firewire and works perfectly.
We've reformatted the internal hard disk to OS Extended (journaled) but have no idea what to do next as nothing will load onto it.
Any advice would be brilliant. The problem is that the upgrade was bought for a project that won't work on 10.3.9 so it is necessary.

Perhaps you don't have a lot of RAM to power Leopard to its full potential. You have to boot up from the Mac OS X install disk and then repair disk and your permissions.

  • Generate/Reconcile problem: two types of Off-line Tables?

    Hi,
I have problem with Generate/Reconcile objects from Off-line Tables.
I have DB tables primarily defined as Off-line DB tables (creation and all changes I do with Off-line DB Tables). Sequentially I force changes to DB with option "Generate/Reconcile". So long as I created Off-line tables directly in JDeveloper, all was great.
Now, I want to simplify proces of creation off-line tables: I generate myself sql simple sql script (on the basis java-beans), apply to DB and after it import DB tables from DB to Off-line tables. Next I want to work as sooner, i.e. make fine changes on Off-line tables and "Generate/Reconcile" to DB.
But this second approach dosn't work. Off-line tables imported from DB shows in Table Information warning "This table has been imported from/or generated to a database. Changigng the Temporary Table property will affect your ability to reconcile it with that database". But what is important: Generate/Reconcile such Off-line table to DB faces alltimes to DROP table and CREATE table!!!!! So this is fully useless.
When I opex Off-line tables xml, other structure is for Off-line tables created in JDeveloper and imported from DB.
So how resolve this problem? How can I "transform" Off-line table imported from DB to Off-lina table created directly in JDeveloper?

  • LR 2.6 and Beta are crashing to OFF my new iMac 27" i7

Hi, my new iMac 27" i7 is being shut down when I am importing images and working in LR2.6 and the beta. It just shuts down the whole computer. This never happened when I was using my 24"imac. Does anyone know about this? All other apps inc. Adobe's seem to be OK.

An application issue is very rarely the culprit when a computer crashes to off, blue screens or kernel panic. Normally, such crashes are attributed to hardware device drivers or hardware itself (e.g. memory or possible a memory card reader) The fact that it is happening on  a new computer when importing would point in that direction.

  • My brother bumped my ipod tuch off the table now the screan is just blank how do i fix it or can it be relaced?

my brother bumped my ipod tuch off the table and now it only shows a blank screan how do i fix it or can it be replaced for nothing?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 17" Powerbook keeps crashing on me!

    Hi there,
I just bought an Aluminium 17" Powerbook from eBay and it keeps crashing on me. It arrived running Panther and seemed to work fine. However as soon as I installed Tiger it began crashing regularly.
I took it into the Apple store and they said that it could mean a faulty hard drive, but they ran a hardware test using the original Powerbook discs and it didn't turn up anything.
I've recorded as much as I can of the reports that the machine generates when it crashes (see below this email) - can anyone decipher the code and what it might mean?
The previous owner said that he had used it for editing video on the hard drive, which I gather is a no-no if you want to keep a healthy hard drive...
Any help or advice gratefully received - thanks!
    Patrick

Wednesday 30 November, 14.15. Came back from lunch and screen was dark, could not “re-awaken” Powerbook by any means (waggling finger on trackpad, clicking mouse, clicking space bar), even though power was switched on (Caps Lock light would switch on and off). Had to restart machine.
    No report generated on restart.
Friday, 2 December. Powerpoint open, Acrobat, Mail. Had left machine for a while (20 minutes). Someone had disconnected my external USB mouse – I then reconnected it, and dragged cursor over the Dock to access my Inbox. Cursor/screen froze and had to restart.

    Hi Pat,
I have the same problem, sometimes with the restart-warning, other times just a good old os9-style FREEZE!

I am convinced that this is a ram-related issue. Have you tried removing the second ram block from your PB? I have 512Mb and an extra 1Gb in the second sloth. Removing this makes the problem disapper...
In this situation I would recommend a slow PB to an unfunctional one...
I have read about this issue severel at different places the internet - by now Apple MUST be aware of this issue. What I don't understand is that if a certain kind of ram is recommended and other kinds are not - why isn't it written anywhere? No info what so ever on apple.com as far as I can tell...

  • Powerbook always crashes when awaking from safe sleep

    Hi,
my Powerbook (late 2005) went into safe sleep a few hours ago, and every time I try to wake it up, it has an odd looking kernel panic (text off half a screen to the left).
When starting up, I cannot go into Open Firmware, reset the Parameter RAM, display the boot options or boot into single user mode. No matter what keys I press, it's directly waking up from safe sleep and crashes halfway through.
No external hardware is attached. It crashes regardless whether it's on battery or not. I upgraded the memory two years ago, and since then some parts have been replaced in AppleCare. I'm not aware I used safe sleep before, so I dont't know if it worked before.
    Any ideas?
Message was edited by: Daniel Beck (added note that it crashes both on ac and dc power)

Fixed the problem by simply removing one of the RAMs. Probably has invalidated the sleepimage, but I'm not sure. ANyway, it works again.

I'm working on a legacy document created in CS5.5, the document contains tables which I need to update.
When I attempt to change the stroke or fill, I manage to update 2 rows before the program freezes. The only recourse is to then close the file, at which point a box pops up saying Indesign has stopped working.
When I re-open the file after re-starting InDesign the file has to be automatically recovered.
I have just downloaded and installed the latest patches from the cloud desktop & have installed the font manager fix, this has not made any difference.
So far I have spent 5 hours on a document that should have taken 45 minutes to update - who pays for my lost time? - I can't charge my customer!
Please can someone find a solution, I have another 10 documents to update.

    Hi Bob / Peter
Bob You are correct, there is a drop shadow on the table, removing this has enabled me to update the table, however the design of the document requires the drop shadow, or a complete redesign of all 10 documents in the series.
Once the text was updated re-enabling the drop shadow caused In design to crash again.
    So any suggestions?
At least part of the problem is resolved, I suppose I could create some shadows to place behind the table in illustrator?
Peter - Hadn't tried the tagged text export, I will give this a try and let you know if it's successful - Can I export styles as well?

  • Help!  PowerBook G4 crashed on sleep, won't start after forced shutdown.

Urgent call for help: After I downloaded a RealPlayer update today, I neglected to run Disk Utility permissions repair. A little later I left my G4 PowerBook running for a few hours and when I came back and tried to wake it up, it wouldn't come out of sleep mode (white light was pulsing).
I held down the Power button for about 20 seconds but nothing happened, so I removed the battery, which also didn't force a shutdown (white light still on). Finally, after the battery had been out for 5 minutes, I replaced it, plugged the computer in again, and held the Power button down, and it finally shut down (white light went off after about 15 seconds).
I then tried to restart the computer by pressing the Power button, but now nothing at all happens--no chime; it doesn't even go to a gray or blue screen. I've searched Discussions and found a post from "Maxit" suggesting a reboot from the Install disk to someone whose screen went as far as blue and what to do after that to prevent the problem in the future, but since the computer won't draw power, I can't insert the Install disk. (I've copied Maxit's fix below.)
Is there anything I can do to get the computer at least to the point where I can reboot from the Install disk--besides wait until AppleCare and/or my local repairman wakes up on Monday morning? Thanks for any suggestions!

First thing I would do is to restart from the 10.3 installation Disk and rather than proceeding with the installation, go to the menu bar, find Disk Utility, open it and run "Repair." If errors show up, run again.
Then, I would boot into Safe Mode (which forces a directory repair). See this KB article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
This will take longer than a normal restart. Once booted, go into Disk Utility on the drive and repair permissions, then restart. Were this not to resolve your issue, then I would suggest doing an "Archive and Reinstall" of 10.3:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Then update the software to 10.3.9 (be sure to repair permissions after the update).

Yes, the sleep light stayed on until I was finally able to force a shutdown by removing the battery for a time, putting it back, and holding down the power button.
You've asked a good question: I don't know why it didn't go black as soon as I took the battery out, or why I had to hold down the power button for almost 30 seconds before it finally did.
Maybe when the battery is drained to 1%--which is what the indicator said when I finally realized what had happened and plugged it back in--its reserves are so low that it doesn't have the wherewithal to turn itself off. Or maybe after 5 hours of hibernation it was cranky when I tried to wake it up. . Do you know why it wouldn't respond as expected as soon as the battery was removed or the power button held down?

  • Grey startup screen on my profile, but I can access guest profile and my hardrive partition to windows?!?! I had a kernal panic after it was knocked off coffee table in my user account, now I cannot access it from safe mode or anything... :(

My laptop fell off the coffee table, and slammed shut. It then produced a kernal Panic to restart, which I did. It the brings up the user icons, mine and guest, but will not go past the grey screen with spinner on mine. It does let me into the basic safari setting I had on the guest user, AND when i press option on start up, will let me access the windows partition I have set up and all works fine.
I have tried safe mode, safe mode with display screen and the NVRAM/PRAM restarts, and nothing!
I have let the battery run completely, restarted, filled up the battery before starting.... everything.... anybody have any ideas? else I am going to have to visit a genius! grrrrrrr....
    Thanks in advance!

Looks like that is what you are going to end up doing.  No telling what was damaged internally.
