Powerbook G4 12 " display is low res and faint

Dear Gurus of such things,
My Powerbook G4 12" display goes into some kind of low res and faint display after restarting. After days of this, it will suddenly become high res and clear again, for no reason that I can tell. It also recovers after my Powerbook has been connected to a projector.
Is there some way to fix this poor display after restarting without connecting it to a projector?
Thanks Scotianova

Why not ask Applecare to replace the whole laptop ?
by the way,is your MBP a Core or Core 2 Duo?
I am currently using a Core 2 Duo MBP, it's working well(except for a defective battery )but i am happy with it.

  • Script to save out PDFs in High Res and Low Res and name them accordingly?

    Hello
I'm on Indesign version 9.1. I previously had a script for this and have since had my mac wiped and re-installed (big company rules). So, here I am asking if someone can help me again..
Basically I have to create artwork and nearly every time I have to export it as a 150dpi LOW RES version and then a 300dpi HIGH RES version with time marks, bleed, etc.  I then end the file name with either LR.pdf or HR.pdf. I have presets for these and obviously, it's not the worst thing in the world having to scroll down menus, etc but this is maybe up to 50 times a day. I used to be able to select an icon on my desktop (or wherever) then I used Indesign scripting and automator on the mac to press a kay command and it'd open the document, then save it out as the two designated PDFs, then close it.
Can anyone help me on this?
I can probably search on here for the previous thread asked and the script given to me...

Adding somthing like below to Script 2 pdf outputs?
    var myLayer = app.documents.item(0).layers.item("Background");
    myLayer.visible = true

  • Tired of constant issues - Screen is low res and flickers.

    Hi..
I am so beaten down by these constant problems with my MBP. Looks like I'm going in for a third repair, again, with multiple problems. And again, not all problems will warrant their even looking at them all.
For instance, they didn't give my crooked fitting battery as much as a glance last repair, because the screen was the main issue.
Again, the screen is an issue this time. It looks like it's showing in low resolution. I know the problem is mechanical, because moving the lid will cause the screen to flicker, display lines, and eventually solve the problem temporarily once the exact right angle is found.
But why does this keep happening? It must be a crimped cable or a bad card, right? But in additon, the computer has been running hotter lateley. It seems to have a problem with high demands on video apps, even running small QT files.
And for the second time, my charge cable literally melted right through, and was about to catch fire. My computer is incredibly hot as I type this.
I think what I want to know now is: how many issues does it take before apple acknowledges a Lemon?
And, question two: suppose I want to sell this computer, do you think I would be better of with a Macbook, or even an older Powerbook? Or should I buy a nice Imac? I can't keep dealing with breaking computers, melting cables that could possibly burn down my apt. building in my absence and the downtime.
It's tiring, and an expensive maching like this should perform better. It's disappointing, especially since I switched from the PC so enthusiastically a few years ago. I really want to keep believing in Apple.
Thanks for any suggestions - I am off to the Apple store to part with my Macbook Pro for another couple of days again - third time in seven months!

  • Suddenly low res and off size.

Dual LCD cinima displays (R - newer aluminum frame / L older plastic frame) using Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT - This morning checking mail I noticed the type was scummy and hard to read. My main monitor (L) is bleeding over onto the right and off the bottom. Both displays show scummy type. Rebooting, un/replugging, reinstall system, downloaded latest drivers from nvidia..... Monitors respond to change of display settings but type is still really scummy and the L frame still bleeds over to the R.
Reboot in safe mode - grey linen looks fine till I log in and it begins the process of shifting to my work screens. You can see a sudden shift of the L display overlapping the R even in grey linen.

Your display is slightly zoomed.  Try scrolling up or down while holding the Conreol key down.

  • Mobile images are low res and fuzzy

I dont know why all my mobile images are fuzzy. I dont see the use original size or whateve that is in the assets panel...
how do i make my mobile images be as sharp as the desktop version, but maintain their smaler size..
http://rigandkeel.com is the site. mobile and tablet versions look bad...

    Hi,
Sorry I wasn't clear enough. You need to place the image in Muse such that its width (see the control strip or the Transform panel) reads, say, 550px.
You'll also need to increase your page width to accommodate this wider image.
    Try these on your phone:
    http://museforum.businesscatalyst.com/phone/5618166a.html
    (325x217 image; pixelated in landscape)
    http://museforum.businesscatalyst.com/phone/5618166b.html
(550x367 image; looks better, but you need to scroll the page horizontally as the image does not fit)
    http://museforum.businesscatalyst.com/phone/5618166c.html
(550x367 image; page is 550px wide; looks fine and fits)
I chose 550px somewhat arbitrarily. You'll need to find the right balance between image quality and load time (particularly important on phones).

  • Facebook pictures uploaded from iPhoto get displayed in low resolution on mac browsers

... but is otherwise fine on PC version of the browsers.
When viewing facebook photos on Safari (or Chrome, or Firefox) on Mac, photos uploaded using iPhoto get displayed in low res. Manually uploaded (through facebook upload tool) photos are displayed ok.

    Hi Jon,
Thank so much for your reply. That portion I comfortable with, but was thinking I could take photos with my mobile phone and have them sync to a folder on my PC as my originals. I dont want to download photo's from my phone. It does work as desired exept the fact that the photos resolution is lower on the PC than the "originals" on the Revel website.
If I right click on the photo in PE and select "download original from revel" it works, but sort of defeats it purpose in my case.
It seems like Photoshop is not importing the pic at the original resolution. ie to me I would expect a "import original resolution" inside photoshop.
    I am using PE12.
I dont like to compare PE revel to apple iCloud, but this is how their software works. If I take a photo on my iPhone its on my mac in full res within minutes to do with as I please. This is what I was thinking Revel could do for me and more. Dropbox, Onedrive and Googledrive all support this, but then I have to import it into PE.
Once again. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated!!
    Kind Regards
    Jason

  • Tty display problems with nvidia and uvesafb

I'm trying to get my console to display correctly at 1080p; trying to do so through GRUB was always an absolute nightmare.
The console displays fine with nouveau, but nouveau causes the infamous pink line bug, which is simply too irritating to ignore; nouveau is not an option.
In the past, my console has run at low res and incorrect scale with nvidia, but I've ignored the problem since I prefer to use a virtual terminal in X.
Now, if possible, I need to use the actual console for the purposes of module development.
I installed v86d and uvesafb and configured the console for 1920x1080 and 32 bit depth.
The console is displaying with the correct resolution now, but is surrounded by a black border, making the font distorted and extremely difficult to read.
How can I get my console to scale correctly to fullscreen? Any ideas at all. I found nothing in the forums or wiki, and I'm out.
I'm fairly certain there are no vga or video settings in GRUB that are interfering.

Also, it might help to describe the behaviour more specifically / more in depth...
The rendered part of the console occupies the same space as the GRUB boot menu.
I installed and configured virtualbox a few weeks previously.
I ran "sudo depmod -a" as the wiki / forums indicated it could remedy problems with virtual machines failing to start.
It did fix the virtualbox problem; after reboot, suddenly lightdm *also* initally occupied the same window space as grub.
That was new behaviour. When I logged in to xmonad, the desktop displayed similarly to GRUB.
I hadn't tried fixing it; logging in with root followed by "ps -e | grep X" and "kill -9 <Xpid>" caused X as a whole to start behaving and scaling normally.
I haven't rebooted until attempting to rectify the issue with my console.
The oddity with scaling in lightdm and xmonad still shows up after reboot and is still reparable by killing X.
Killing X doesn't - obviously - have any effect on console scale.

  • PC content viewer shows only low res thumbnails of PDF folios (from folio builder)

Since i can't seem to find a similar question, here's my story:
I've recently held a small class of 2*18 students, running various versions of indesign (mostly Cs6 and CC) and various OS (MacOs, Win7, Win 8).
On the Win 7 and 8 systems, some of the students had a blurry/low res and no interactivity feature output of anything coming from Folio Builder.
Regular Interactive Overlay Folio preview always turned well, and preview on the devices were ok too (except for the long process of putting things online when the PC users would want to preview on an iPad).
But i couldn't work them out of the horrible low res preview when the folios were built in Folio Builder.
So far i haven't found time to narrow the failing machines (we didn't have a lot of time for this).
Is this problem known ? Is there a workaround ?

Hi bob, as i mentionned in the title, it's the PC (aka desktop) Content Viewer that's concerned.
I know it's supposed to be rasterized, but the problem here is their (desktop) Content Viewer really displays the thumbnails instead of the expected (and interactive) content.
I had never encountered this kind of behaviour before, and couldn't track that on the website.

  • Iphoto saves edited photos to a low res image

Whenever I edit a image and save it, Iphoto displays a low res photo. How can I have Iphoto display a high res edited photo?

What type of editing did you perform on the file? And is the file a jpg or RAW? If it's a 5 MB RAW file then iPhoto creates a jpg modified version of it for display and further editing. Maybe that's why you're seeing the lower file size.
I have a couple of 7 MB RAW files that, when imported, created a 2.5 MB jpg right off the bat. It's the nature of the beast.
I just ran some editing tests on a jpg and I'm finding that a simple exposure change to a 2.7 MB file results in a 2.5 modified version. I'm also seeing an increase in file size, from 4.0 to 4.1, when applying several edits at one time, like increase exposure, adjust highlights and shadows and tweak the histogram. This surprised me as generally there's no way you can edit a jpg file and not encounter some additional jpeg compression. However, with iPhoto's nondestructive editing you only encounter a one time compression no matter now many times you edit the photo.
Unless you're producing mural size prints it will be difficult to see any degradation in the image.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Moved to General as it doesn't relate to any Creative products.
Do you have the latest drivers for the graphics cards? Are you using a custom profile, if so, what SLI setting did you use? (like split screen, or SLI antialiasing).

  • Photo quality low res in iMovie.  I can't fix it.

No Matter what the quality of my image (jpeg), after I import it (from iPhoto or any other way, for that matter) the photo is low res and I cannot get a crisp image in iMovie 6.0.1.
iMovie 5 did a fine job of reproducing my images. Now, I am at my wits end. I cannot get a project started with iMovie 6 because the images look so horrible.
    Is there something I'm missing?

You can use the "screenshot" method, which means just screenshot the picture when only the picture shows. Not any of the white spacing with edit and such on it. Then use the screenshotted picture as your background.

  • Best way to select pixels in a low res image

    Hi,
I need to trace the attached logo and make it white. I've tried selecting the pixels using the quick selection tool but it's very low res and even with some tweaks (removing and adding to the selection) its still not getting a good selection. What is a better and ideally fast way? Thanks!

    Hi,
Is your logo a flattened image (only one layer)
Or is the text on a separate layer from the white background?
Could you post a screenshot including the layers panel?
Something like this with the logo white on it's own layer

  • Capitalization doesn't work as described. One can start with lower case and change to upper, but changing from upper case to any of the other options doesn't work. Is there a way around this or is this just a glitch that needs fixing?

In Pages capitalization doesn't work as described. One can start with lower case and change to upper, but changing from upper case to any of the other options doesn't work. Is there a way around this or is this just a glitch that needs fixing?

I think it does work as described, but the description is not very complete. Capitalization does not change any of the characters that you type; what it does is allow some of the lower case characters to display as capitals. If you copy the result and paste it as plain text, you'll see that the lower case characters are still there. It doesn't actually say anywhere that it can make capitals display as lower case, and it can't.
The obvious way around this is to actually type what you want.
The more powerful way is to install WordService from Devon Technologies which adds the functionality of Pages' capitalization menu as well a lot of other ones. WordService actually changes the character to the one displayed, and it works in most of the applications on your Mac.

  • Baffled by My Low Res Output on FCP7

I'll admit to not being an expert but I'm not a beginner either. This one has me stumped. Producing two minutes videos on DVD with FCP7. Output DV NTSC 720X480 anamorphic. Up until yesterday DVDs looked fine on a 720 widescreen. Then... suddenly... DVED playback resolution is low and credits screen fonts at the end (LiveType Movie) were abysmally low res and fuzzy. Everything seems the same as my previous projects... which all look great! Have tried different codecs, QT , Compressor etc. Does any of this ring a bell with anyone. It's probably something really stupid... but eludes me. Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have.

    Hi Tony,
I've tried several things. I set my in and out points and exported via Quicktime Movie. I've exported via Quicktime Movie Conversion with several different settings. I've placed my QT export directly into Compressor and tried several methods there... including adjusting frame motion. I'm just totally baffled by the awful low res output. I've done this soooo many times in the past and now, all of a sudden, the output is atrocious.

  • Low Res Photo's when outputting to iDVD

I'm using a last generation iMac G5 with the latest OS X updates.
When I create a slide show (No KB effects) to go in betwen video segments in my iMovie projects, The photo's all output looking Low Res and pixelated. All photo are a minimum of 1024 x 768 in iPhoto before adding to iMovie. I am using iMovie HD and was wondering if I am overlooking some settings. I believe I have all output settings to best quality.
This problem also happens when I make a solely slide show movie of images, and then inport into iDVD.
Is this an iDVD or iMovie issue.

    Hi K
Yes this is a known problem. Main reason and origin (or most harmful) is:
    - in iMovie using Share/Export to iDVD function and then OK the question
    on rendering.
IF You done this I'm sorry to say that You most probably has to re do Your
SlideShow. Rendering also destroys the original iMovie movie.
    HowTo ?
    - Close iMovie when SlideShow is ready.
    - Open iDVD and drop the movie icon (with a star on it) into the theme window.
Now iDVD will do the rendering and so much better.
    Other origins is:
    - kind of photo-files used. I use .jpg photos.
    - strangely I think that low free space on the internal hard disk also affects
the end result (should be 25Gb free) if less than 10 or even worse < 5Gb all
    kind of strange thing happens.
    Yours Bengt W
