Powerbook G4 + Belkin F5D7010 card

I'm having problems with a Powerbook G4 500 MHz in combination with a Belkin F5D7010 pcmcia card. When I insert the card, the system hangs. I cant' move the mouse, can't press any keys. When I remove the card after the hang, the system works back.
The card isn't detected at any time. Other PC cards do work.
Since the card is based on a Broadcom BCM4306 chipset it should work. An other PCMCIA card from Belkin doesn't work too (it worked on a Powerbook G4 550, but can't use that portable anymore).
Card is not broken, works in my Windows laptop.
System is updated with all updates and aiport updates.
What can I do? I'm not a mac expert but have lots of experience in Windows systems and not afraid of digging deep in the system.
Many thanks!

Hi, timkerger, and welcome to Apple Discussions. I've read in several past posts here that Belkin has made different versions of some of its wireless cards that bear the same model number, and that these different revisions may in some cases require different drivers. I recommend avoiding Belkin cards, because Belkin provides no Mac support at all for its products, and doesn't identify them clearly enough so you can tell what you're buying.
You may want to have a look at this page and see whether it provides any clues for you.

  • Belkin wireless card F5D7010 RT2500 chipset on Solaris10 IBMthinpad R40

I have a Belkin F5D7010 wireless card with RT2500 chipset .I have been trying to set up this wireless card on Solaris10 (IBM thinkpad R40 box) for the past week, without success. If i use ndis wrapper I am getting $chicago$ Segementation Fault core dumped error while running ./ndiscvt -i ndis.inf - s ndis.sys -o ndis.h command. I tried with Ral driver too, I was able to plumb and the ifconfig-a shows ral0 interface up, but no connection. Is there no light at the end of the tunnel? Any help is appreciated . I am a novice in solaris.
    Thanks.

Thanks, what about RAL driver , is it hopeless for
this card too. At this point I am pretty much ready
to get myself one of these cardsdon't know. All I do know is that their NDIS driver only has the code base for Broadcom cards only. I was hoping to use a Linksys card with their NDIS port but slammed into the wall and then posted a message. Support for any card other then Broadcom is simply not in the code base so there is nothing that you can do.
Netgear WG511T Cardbus Works, forgot to mention that I needed cardbus-0.3 as well.
    So Netgear WG511T
    with
    ath-01 for Solaris 10 support
wificonfig -01 for Solaris 10 support
cardbus-0.3 to get cardbus support added to Solaris 10.
The Netgear card is cardbus and Solaris 10 only has PCMCIA support without cardbus.

  • Powerbook 2400 and USB Card Support

I have a Powerbook 2400 with a PCMCIA slot. I also have a Belkin USB Adapter for the slot that works fine with a Powerbook G3. I also must run Mac OS 8.6 because of an old program I use everyday. The 2400 slot works with a modem card so I know it is not defective.
I downloaded Apple's USB Card Support 1.4.1, which allows the USB card support in pre 9.0 Macs. The notes say it will work with any PowerPC Mac. When I try to install it on the 2400, the window comes up saying this card suppot software is not supported on this machine. It works fine on the G3 running 8.6.
Is there any work around so that I can use this card in the 2400?
    Thanks,

The dialogue box "...USB DDK..." went away with your instructions for including "usbx", BUT the 2400 froze on restart.
I removed the "usbx" version of the USB Support Extension and went back to the USB Support Extension without "usbx". I restarted and it came up without the dialogue box. (?????). No freezing. So the dialogue box problem was solved.
With the old (non "usbx" support extension) installed, I inserted my Belkin USB card. I then inserted the little Memorex USB in the left slot of the two slot card spaces and it didn't work. I inserted it into the right slot and the little light on the Memorex flashed and the icon came upon the desktop. Hurray!!!
    Success!
I am a bit confused by all of this.
    1. With Plan B, it took code inserted into the resource window, "usbx" (pardon me if I use the wrong terms here) to get rid of the dialogue box (DDK) which came up on all restarts.
    2. That froze the 2400.
    3. Replacing it with the original USB Support Extension (without "usbx") allowed the 2400 to restart without freezing or the dialogue box.
    4. BUT my hardware Belkin card seems to mount USB drives on the right USB slot only.
Anyway it seems to be working, and you guys are phenomenal. My PC using husband is totally impressed by what you have been able to help me do. And I am reminded of how much fun it used to be to do this kind of stuff on my old Macs when we could still work with the extension folder.
Do you have any further analysis on this, otherwise I'll close it out as question answered? Bless you!

  • Belkin Wireless Card+Powerbook G4

Firstly, I apologise for the question, but despite my best efforts I havent been able to find a quick answer.
I'm currently travelling in italy and have just picked up a Belkin F5D7011 Wireless card so I can get on the net in the hotel I am staying at (yeah, should have sorted this before i left, I know, I'm a fool!).
There are no drivers, and while belkins online help say its not compatible I have seen posts saying that if its based on the broadcom (if thats right) chipset, then it should work. I've plugged it into the machine, and tried the airport helper, but nothing appeared to happen.
I am currently posting from an internet cafe, hence the desperation and foolish question. I will go back to my hotel to try it again, but is there something I should be doing, or more accuratly, is there something I'm doing wrong, ie, a certain procedure?
If anyone has any links to other discussions or help articles, I'd really really love you for it.

Hi, sf. The 7011, which does use the same Broadcom chipset as Apple's Airport hardware, is reported to work fine on Macs running Airport 3.4.1 software. If your Tiger installation includes a newer Airport software version than that, perhaps that's where the problem lies.
Does Apple System Profiler detect the card?

  • Can an Airport Extreme Base Station Interfere with a Belkin 3G card?

Can an AEBS interfere or degrade use with a Belkin 3G wireless card on another computer? The reason I ask is that I have been using an AEBS in my home for a couple of years. Recently I gave my youngest daughter my older Dell laptop to play her little kids games. I attached a Belkin 3G wireless card and experienced no problems with her connecting to the internet. Lately however, I noticed that the cursor pauses for about 5 seconds for every 20 seconds of movement, whether you are using the mouse or the trackpad. Since I couldn't figure this out I took the laptop to Best Buy to have the Geek Squad check it out. Surprisingly, the computer connected to the internet with no problem using an ethernet cable and the Belkin card and experience no pausing of the cursor. The Squad member recommended taking it home and trying it out connecting it through my AEBS again. When I got home it experienced the same problems. So my question is, can the AEBS somehow interfere or slow a Belkin card? Can it be a buffering issue? Do I need to re-set the AEBS? Just trying to let my daughter play on the same type of computer she uses at school. Thanks

Yes. The Belkin card allows you to connect to any wireless network since the laptop does not have its own wireless capability. I have been using it for sometime this year and never experienced this type of problem before.

  • How can you get Belkin Media Card Reader to work with Fifth Gen iPod?

I got a new 80Gb iPod and then discovered my Belkin Card Reader I've used extensively with my 4th Gen iPod, no longer works with the new one. I easily transferred photo albums on my PC to the new iPod but the Belkin Reader is "not recognized" by the new one.
This is a MAJOR disappointment to me as we travel a lot and I've used my iPod all over the world for photo storage. I had about 15Gb of photos on my older 40 Gb iPod before I transferred them off and got the new one.
Is there any other portable card reader that will work with the 5th Gen iPod's?

  • PowerMac G4 With Belkin Wireless Card

I recently moved my G4 (MDD) to the basement where I do not have wiring for the network. I have a belkin wireless pci card that I was not using so I thought I'd try to install it in the G4. How should I go about doing this. Thanks

If the Belkin card uses the Broadcomm chipset it will just work, otherwise confirm with Belkin that they supply Mac drivers.

  • PowerBook G4s' AirPort Extreme Cards-b or g?

How can I tell if the built-in AirPort Extreme cards on my PowerBook G4s (a 2 1/2 year-old 15" and two 12" PBs under two years old) have 802.11g or not? System Monitor does not indicate which; it only shows the Wireless Card Firmware Version: 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p18).

Any suggestions on a PCMCIA Cars that will work with Mac OS 8 will do fine too. Could anyone give suggestions of where and what to get? Thanks!

  • Belkin pre n to belkin wireless card bridged to nic to router to emac

Ok, so I have a wireless router (Belkin Pre N) getting it's signal from a comcast modem. One other port is hardwired into my upstairs neighbors computer (PC running windows xp pro SP 2). That computer is generally off.
My set up is an old PC (running win xp pro SP2, 500mhz, 184MB Ram, AMD-K6) which has a belkin wireless G desktop network card with a compaq nic card. I use the network connections window to bridge these two together on the PC. The nic on the PC goes to a "network everywhere" 4 port cable/dsl router (with the firmware updated). The ethernet cable goes from the PC's nic into the 3rd port of the router and the other ethernet cable on port 2 goes into my emacs ethernet port.
Now, I can maintain some connectivity in this manner for my emac. The problem is that I have to leave the network prefs window open to click the "renew DHCP lease" button every 5-10 minutes because I am just suddenly not connected to the network. The odd thing is when I refresh the ip nothing changes. I just get my connectivity back...
Worse, ultimately, I'd say every 4 or so hours, suddenly my PC loses it's wireless connection and stops seeing any neighboring wireless connections (there is many, I live in Chicago) and the bridge suddenly starts getting it's ip from the router between my pc and mac instead of from the wireless card that was connecting to the upstairs belkin pre N. Essentially the network starts working in reverse!. I've tried using the network everywhere router as just a router or even setting it with a static ip with the dns and router configurations from the belkin pre N. I get awesome throughput but in 5-10 minutes it always degrades to nothing on the mac. It is to the point that I keep the network prefs window open on the mac and just periodically click "renew DHCP lease" basically the whole time I am using the internet or downloading something.
Now once the PC loses it's wireless connection I've found the only way to get it back to the way it was is to disable the nic, the bridge, then the wireless and then enable them in reverse order (wireless, bridge, and nic) and it goes back to working correctly... usually once going back to the mac and clicking "renew DHCP lease" I then have 1 more addition to the last number of my ip. Like 192.168.2.3 would then be 192.168.2.4 and so on this continues. The highest I got before reseting all including the router was .2.30
Does anyone know why this is or have a similar set up?
    G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   400 Mhz 576MB SDRAM

Easiest solution, get a wireless adapter for the eMac.
Sounds like you don't have ICS configured correctly, and it can do this when using a wireless to wired connection.

  • Belkin firewire card

I just installed my firewire card because my comp wouldnt recognize my ipod through the usb. I installed it and it says that its looking for new software to support the firewire but the firewire card doesnt come with software. then I tried switching the pci slots and still the same problem. someone help. im about to send the ipod back.

There's not much we can do here to help you since this isn't a Windows tech support board and that's what you really need. If Belkin can't help you (and it's really strange that they can't help you with Windows XP considering that's the current OS) and you can't find a Windows-oriented site that can help - here's one you can try - perhaps the best course would be to return the Belkin card and get one with proper tech support. The most recommend card for iPod use seems to be the Adaptec Fireconnect 4300.

  • Powerbook G3 Wallstreet Wifi Card?

    Hi,
I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet PDQ running Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.7 via Xpostfacto. What wifi PC Cards will work with it? I heard that there were some issues using certain PC Cards with the Powerbook G3 when using Xpostfacto. Can anyone tell me some that will work for sure?
    Thanks

    Apple Rules,
I have had both 10.3.9 and 10.4.7 on my Wallstreet and the Buffalo WLI-CB-AG54 AirStation 802.11 b/g/a 54MBps Wireless PC-Card has worked perfectly using AirPort software.
The Sonnet Aria Extreme 54G Wireless CardBus Card will also work. Both cards are available here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/wireless/
The AeroCard Extreme 802.11g 54Mbps Wireless Cardbus Card is also compatible. All of these cards use the Broadcom chipset.

Just make sure you update to the latest versions of AirPort.

  • Powerbook at Cingular 3G Card (Novatel U730)

I recently got a Novatel U730 3G PCMCIA card for use on Cingular's 3G and EDGE network. The card works fine in a couple of PC laptops that I have (Dell D500 and Lenovo T43) running Windows XP Pro, so it seems to me that the card is good.
However, when I plug it into my PowerBook G4 (1.33GHz, 2GB RAM, 10.4.10), the PowerBook immediately crashes. If I have the card plugged into the PowerBook when I boot, it never completes the boot-up process, but gives me the same error until I remove the card. I've also tried to install the latest Novatel drivers from their website, but my understanding is that Tiger has been updated in 10.4.7 to provide support for these cards.
I think the PCMCIA slot works because I can plug in a SanDisk Flashdisk, and it works fine.
Are there any additional steps that I can take to troubleshoot this further, or is this a case where my workhorse PowerBook is not going to work with this card?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

The 3G sim card in the Iphone is the same as any other 3G sim card. If you change out the sim card the new one will have to be activated by At&t. Like it would have to be on any other phone. This bring up another complaint issue about the iPhone and that is you can't transfer your contacts from your old phone to the iPhone. Apparently the iPhone doesn't read that information from the sim. I took mine out at the AT&t store and had them put it in their gismo
to transfer my contacts stored on my old sim card and it did it, but the iphone wouldn't read the new information and load it in the iphone's contacts application.

  • Belkin Wireless Notebook Network Card F5D7010 and Tiger

    Hi
