Powerbook g4 can`t boot..
Hello all! I have Powerbook g4 and can`t boot it.. Mac os x 10.4 . I want to boot the Powerbook and reinstall the OS, but i don`t know how can i boot it ?? Can someone help me ? Thank you
Hello,
You will need the original install disk which came with the PowerBook or a retail copy of mac OS X 10.4.
Inert the disk into the optical drive and hold down the 'C' key. That will boot it from the disks.
follow the instructions to install Mac OS X

Can't boot from external HD with Leopard on MacBook Pro or PowerBook
I can't boot from an external HD with 10.5.5 Leopard on either my MacBook Pro or my PowerBook G4. I had a PowerBook G4 from which I could boot from either an external FW400 drive or an external FW800 drive. At some point, I stopped being able to boot from any HD, but I'm not sure if it was after upgrading to Leopard or not? Recently I just bought a MacBook Pro 15" and transferred all my files over from the PowerBook to the MacBook Pro during the install. However, even with the new computer, still cannot boot from an external drive. I have Leopard 10.5.5 running on both the external HD and the internal HD.
Is this a common problem? Anybody know how to fix it?
Thanks! That probably wasn't very clear was it? I have several ext. HD's, some with bootable systems and some just backups. One bootable disk was made with CopyCloner and the other was a clean format and only had an original install of the OS just to use for an emergency boot. They both booted just fine. Then at some point, they stopped being bootable. I have used the Control Panel "Startup" and also used the Option key boot and picked the bootable disk. Neither one boots anymore. It started doing this on the old PowerBook and then also refused to boot on the MacBook Pro. This is not the problem with the HD since it happens with any bootable HD. Something is going on at the system level and it was transfered from the PowerBook to the MacBook.
Thanks,

PowerBook G4 won't boot from install disc, kernel error
Hello all,
I have a PowerBook G4 that I am trying to wipe/restore before I try to sell it. Here are the basic specs:
1.67 GHz PowerPC
512 MB DDR2 SDRAM
OS X v10.4.11
I have the original Mac OS X install discs, v10.4.4--AND I have a set of install discs from a different computer, Mac OS X v10.4.10.
I can press the power button and boot normally without any problem. If I put in disc 1 of the install disc set and hold down the C key when powering up, I get a kernal panic message. If I eject the disc and try rebooting, it boots normally again. I've tried booting from disc 1 of both sets of install discs (v10.4.4 and v10.4.10) and get the same kernal panic message when I hold down the C key.
Other than the battery not holding a charge very well, the computer works fine (that is, the CD drive is in good working condition). Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't boot from the install disc?
Thank you in advance for any help!Hello,
First of all, are these restore disk you have specifically for your model of PowerBook? This are not any other Mac other than a PowerBook?
If they are for your PowerBook G4, then try first putting the disk in the drive and holding down the option key.
This will bring up a menu. This menu will show you the hard drive and CD drive. You should see an icon with a CD with 'Mac OS X Install' Select it. See if that boot from the disk.
If that fails then try resetting the PMU. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431
Which I believe should be taking the battery and power off the machine and holding down the power button for five seconds. Placing the battery back in and power adapter, then rebooting.
Best of luck -
PowerBook G4 can't see external hard drive
All of a sudden, my PowerBook G4 can no longer see my external hard drive (Maxtor 160 GB drive). The drive doesn't appear in the Finder, and it doesn't mount on the desktop. Thus, I have no way of accessing the files on my external hard drive.
I can see the external hard drive when I launch Disk Utility (and also when I launch TechTool Pro), so I know the hard drive and the USB connections are working.
Can someone please help on this?? I've tried unplugging everything and rebooting with no results. Thank you.

My mac Pro can't boot OS X, if it connected with iPod video
Hi All~ I have received the new Mac Pro, but I don't know why..... if
my iPod video(60G) had connected with USB ports of Mac Pro, then I can't
boot my OS system.... that seems the Mac Pro can't reach my hard
disk, because the apple log doesn't appear (nothing on the screen)
and everything is blocked, however when I put out the iPod, the Mac
would go into the system smoothly, I don't know why. there is no
problem with my powerbook or iMac G4 as the same situation to boot
the OS system. Is a new rule to start the system with Intel CPU?
Can anyone tell me what happen with my Mac Pro, does it have something wrong? Thanx
Reeeeegards,Hi everybody!
I´ve a similar problem. However, in my case it´s not when I boot Mac OS X but when I boot into bootcamp with Windows XP. It takes a loooooooong time for the Mac to start the booting when my 80gig ipod is connected to the USB-port . Maybe you also have just to wait longer?
If I disconnect the ipod during this waiting period from the USB-port, the Mac starts booting immediatelly! Fortunatelly I´ve no problem when directly booting into Mac OS X.
Direct connection or connection via self-powered USB-hub, disk-mode or no disk-mode, ipod formated in Mac or Windows format, I tried everything, but it all made no difference. Any advice to solve the problem would be very wellcome.
By the way, I´ve another ipod connected via firewire, this is not causing any boot-trouble. -
I can't boot from the DiskWarrior CD!
Something went wrong with the OS X filesystem on my PowerBook, and whenever it boots from disk, Mac OS X fails and falls into Single-User Mode. From here, I can run fsck, but it can't repair the drive.
I was told that DiskWarrior could probably fix my problem, so I decided to give it a try.
The problem is that it won't boot on my PowerBook! This is despite the fact that the PowerBook will boot just fine from a Mac OS 9.2.1 CD and that the DiskWarrior CD will boot fine on my iBook G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.3.
I've been trying for hours, and I've done the following steps:
Holding down "c" at boot. - Results with Floppy and Flashing Question mark.
Holding down Command-Option-Shift-Delete at boot. - Results in the same.
Resetting PRAM and doing above actions.
Booted into Open Firmware and typed "boot cdrom"- this gave me a grey OS X boot screen with an action not permitted sign.
Any ideas? I can get my data off of the disk by using "scp" via the single-user mode, but it doesn't do me any good because I can't cleanly reinstall OS X Jaguar because I've misplaced the first install disc!!
What can I do here? What are my options? By the way, the DiskWarrior version is 3.0.3.
Thanks for your help!
BrianI must plead ignorance since I always use Toast, but
does Disk Utility burn bootable OSX CDs? I am sure
you have the answer but I just don't have the time
right now to check.
It sure does. I've used it multiple times in the past to burn bootable CDs.
One option is to use the freeware 'BootCD' to create
a bootable CD and then you can add whatever utilities
you wish before it is burned. This will have to be
done on a Mac that has Jaguar since the Wallstreet
does not natively support 10.3 or 10.4 and the
BootCD uses the OS on the "host" computer to
construct its boot OS.
ttp://lowendmac.com/misc/05/0126.html
I will check this option out. You're just full of work-arounds aren't you?
I put my own DW CD 3.0.3 in my Wallstreet, made on my
iBook burner since the 3.0.3 Update I downloaded
requires using the original CD (I had either 3.0.1 or
3.0.2) and burning a new one with the 3.0.3 Update.
It will not boot my Wallstreet. So I started up in
9.x, launched my XPostFacto (I am running 10.3.8 on
my Wallstreet) and XPostFacto identified the DW CD as
a "MacOS X 10.3.2 Install CD". I believe this was the
version I was running on the iBook when I burned the
new DW 3.0.3 CD -or- this was the version OSX Alsoft
used on my original 3.0.1 or 3.0.2 CD...I can't
recall. So it makes sense my DW 3.0.3 won't boot my
Wallstreet. I am wondering if the real cause of a
no-boot for you is a too modern OSX on the CD. Before
spending a lot of time on CD-Rs, I would contact
Alsoft and see if the Wallstreet will boot the 3.0.3
CD.
I was worried about this originally. I will certainly contact Alsoft about this and post back.
If you are unsuccessful booting the DW CD and have a
set of Jag CDs, you can either erase the HD and start
fresh or perform an Archive & Install...this
preserves your Home folder but you do need sufficient
HD space for the A&I.
I ordered new Jag CDs today. I might just do this. However, I'd still like to get this DiskWarrior issue straightened out for future use and for fellow users of these discussions.
You can also install 10.3.x or 10.4.x (you need CDs)
using XPostFacto. If curious, read all about it:
http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/
I was thinking about this at one point in time. How well does Mac OS X 10.3 run on the Wallstreet? I saw something in the release notes about a video problem. Can you confirm anything?
Thanks for your Wallstreet expertise!

I need to boot from the OS X CD in order to reset the admin password however, I can't boot from the CD. I have tried changing the startup disk but on restart it still boots from the hard drive. I hold down the C key and still it boots from the hard drive.
The Powerbook is running OS 10.2.8 and I am trying to boot with an OS 10.2.1 disk.
What is the problem? Are you using the OS X installer disc that came with the computer? If not, be sure the version of OS X you have is a late enough version to boot the computer model you have. Since you didn't indicate exactly which model Powerbook you have, there's no way I can tell what minimum version of OS X you need.
Note that if you have an Upgrade CD it will not boot the computer unless the version installed on the computer is earlier than the version on the CD. -
Can't boot from an upgraded drive
Hi, I upgraded a 12" PowerBook G4 to a 160GB HD. The machine was running 10.4.11 on its original 60GB drive.
The new drive formatted correctly (extended), and I clean installed OS 10.4 without a hitch. But on reboot, after the apple logo, I ended up with a solid blue screen. Tried an update to 10.4.11, and got the same result. I zapped the PRAM and still can't boot -- though now I start up with vertical pinstripes behind the apple logo, then a black screen.
I've checked the new drive thoroughly with Disk Utility and Tech Tool, and no problems there. SMART status fine, same power requirements, etc. Boot ROM version is 4.9 0f0, which should support a 160 GB drive, if I'm not mistaken, but can't find any info on the Support site as to what the correct Boot ROM version should be to run with 10.4.11.
I can boot fine from the original drive via a firewire enclosure, so no hardware problems with the G4.
Any ideas? Thanks!Okay, I don't know what happened, but it seems to be fixed now.
I migrated the old system files over from the original drive (hadn't wanted to, as I assumed a clean install would simplify things). After doing that, I got a kernel panic screen at startup, which after a blank screen, seemed like progress.
Then I zapped PRAM and reset the PMU again, and voila. Everything is fine. If anyone has any clue what could've been better about a crufty old System folder than a fresh clean install of the same version of the OS, I'd love to know. -
How can I boot to a fakeRAID -Raid0 set drive from a non-raid hdd
Hi all,
First of all, my English is bad and I hope I can explain it what my problem is. Secondly, I need your expert help with my problem right now.
I'll just layout some hardware information and some history before I start. Currently, my motherboard has 3 hdd controllers which are:
1) Intel - 6 ports --> contains 2 sets of RAID drives = 2 x 60gb SSD (boot drive) and 2 x 500gb HDD (data drive) both in RAID 0
2) Jmicron - 2 ports --> 1 port is used by the DVDROM
3) Marvell - 2 ports --> I don't use these ports as they are slow and are so bad - currently disabled in BIOS
HISTORY: Before, my 2 x 60gb SSDs (RAID 0) contained Arch 64 + Windows 7 64 with Grub as the main bootloader. I remembered having a hard time setting up intel fakeraid with Arch linux + Win7 dual boot before, but fortunately, with your help, I found the solution and I've been using it ever since until today.
NOW is kind of a different issue. I bought a new 60gb SSD (just one). I totally reformatted everything with my 2 x 60gb SSD Raid 0 and I decided to just use that exclusively for windows, still in RAID 0. My brand new SSD will ONLY have Arch64 on it. So I installed Windows 7 first on my Raid SSD set. I plugged my new SSD to the Jmicron port so I can take advantage of AHCI. I don't want to mix my new SSD to the Intel Controllers since its not RAID anyway. Anyway, I installed Arch 64 on the new SSD in the JMicron Port fine.
Now here comes the problem, I set the Jmicron port where the Arch is installed to be the primary boot in the BIOS (since GRUB is there) and I can't boot to Windows! It gives me an error that It can't find the target drive (Win7 in the Raid 0 - intel ports). I've tried modifying the menu.lst and trying so many combinations and It still fails. Of course, I can boot to Arch fine since the drive is independent. It looks like grub legacy can't boot to fakeRaid drives if its not installed on that same drive.
Can you give me advice on how to fix this issue?
Also, I was just thinking, is there a 3rd party Windows Bootloader, that can be installed in Raid 0, that can pick up Linux and boot from it. I was thinking of just making the Windows 7 as primary boot in BIOS, with a 3rd party bootloader, then just boot to Arch.
Thank you!Yes, I have redirected my User folder to the D: drive.
I know that some shared components must reside on the C: drive; that's fine. I just don't have room for the entire installation on there.
The real issue here is that, when a drive other than C: is selected as the destination, the CS6 package installs into a broken state every time, out of the gate, on my system. Some components get installed to D: and some to C:, but the various components of the programs seem confused about what exists where, as shown below:
I select a folder on D: as the destination folder for the install, and here is what I get:
64-bit versions of the package -- Program files are installed to the D: drive as specified, but attempting to start them results in a configuration error message stating that the program must be uninstalled and reinstalled, and lists "Error code: 1".
32-bit versions of the package -- Program files are installed to the C: drive against what I specified. The shortcuts installed in the Start menu for the 32-bit versions point to the locations where these program files SHOULD be, on the D: drive. If the Adobe folder containing the program files is copied over to the correct location on D:, these programs function normally with no errors.
I have the 32-bit versions working by copying the program files from C: to D:. I just want to get the 64-bit versions working as well.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated; I'm really looking forward to testing the CS6 suite on my system! -
Can't boot properly in UEFI mode
Hi!
After enabling "windows 8 feature" and booting in uefi only mode, no boot device is detected anymore. The efi shell comes up after the bios has started and I can't boot into windows. I tried a clear cmos but it didn't work. I have a Z87-GD65 (latest 1.11 or 1.1B bios) and my sata devices are a crucial mx100 ssd (with windows 8.1 64-bit), western digital black hdd and asus dvd reader. I'd like to be able to boot in uefi normally. Thanks for your help!I think I've found topic for you

Mac Mini (2011) can't boot, no screen display.
Hi, my mac mini (2011) finally won't startup today.
It was since two weeks ago, the mini goes freeze very frequently, I discovered that the fan speed was always below 2000rpm, meantime, the CPU temp was around 80-90 degree, it is around 25 degree in the room, last Friday I installed a software named smcfancontrol, which can manually speed up the fan, and it seems better, and the computer runs faster, I think the CPU is running in full speed.
Today, I opened a video to watch, after about ten minutes, the computer goes freeze again, and of course I force powered it down by pressing the power button on the back, then the tragic came:
- when I try to boot up the machine, the front light turns on, then off with a "ka" sounds like the hard drive shutting down(force powering it down)
- after around two seconds, the light goes on again, and the fan smoothly goes to full speed, there is nothing shows up on screen, as well as no apple boot up sound.
- I tried to reset smc (power down, unplug power cable, wait 15 seconds, plug in power cable, wait 5 seconds, power on), no luck.
- I tried to reset pmu (at least internet says it's pmu, it seems apple website did not mention how to reset pmu on mac mini, power down, hold power button for five seconds, power on), no luck
- I also tried to unplug the memory, try with every single one to boot, no luck
- last Friday, when I can still boot up the computer, I thought there might too much dust, I removed the fan and cleaned it up, it looks a small piece of plastic on the fan plug were damaged, but the smcfancontrol app still can control its speed, therefore I think the fan is OK.
- during many retry, there was one time, the fan goes full speed at startup, with no front light off,(my current status is fan goes to full speed gently).
- the computer is connected with an AV amplifier, then output to a plasma TV, when the computer is powered off, the TV displays a background of amp, when I startup the computer, although no video output from computer, the TV goes to a "No Signal" status, I dont's think this is related to my problem.
the computer is out of warrentee, but bought only for less than two years... I really want it back to work, can someone help me? many thanks!
wish you all have a good day.Hard to troubleshoot when you can't turn on the computer on any more. One option is to bring it to an Apple store to have them look at it. They will tell you what is wrong and how much it will cost to fix. I have never heard of them charging for a diagnostic and an estimate.
If your CPU was running hot all the time and your fan had small plastic pieaces, in my opinion, something got fried. The mini is so compact, that the excessive heat may have also over heated your hard drive causing thd "ka" sound.
If you decide to continue in to use a Mac Mini as a media server, may I would suggest using iStat to monitor it. I use iStat on my 2011 Mac Mini Media Server to monitor CPU usage, all sensors, and internet incoming and outcoming. -
Like the title says... I know there are some computer savy people especially with Macs on here so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Okay I will try my best to describe my problem...
I believe it was either Saturday or Sunday that the problem first happened.
I was watching a video on a site and I don't remember if I expanded to full screen, but the computer like froze up and a dark grey curtain fell over the screen that was somewhat translucent and this message popped up.
So since it's a 2008 MBP I have no restart button so I decide to hold down the power button until it shuts off and then turn it on again... same message appears... I do this like 3-5 more times and still the same thing. So I decide to let it sit for a while, which turned into a day because I had to go to work, and while at work I started looking for solutions.
Came home and tried a solution that work... temporarily... I held the X button upon startup and it worked and I then ran start up disk like it said to on the troubleshooting I learned from Google. Thought all was well... so I decide to venture back to said site that's just like flash players like youtube, but with more geared towards young adolescences. Things were good for a little and then the problem started happening again and more frequent.
I kept doing the hold X thing and it work like 1-2 more times and now that Kernel Panic screen doesn't go away at all and I can't boot up the MBP at all.
I tried doing the thing where you hold X at start up... no luck!
I tried holding down shift at start up to boot into safe mode and it still doesn't work.
I tried some PRAM thing where you hold down cntrl + option + p + r and that didn't work.
I don't even know what operating system I'm on because the MBP won't boot up for me to see the system info.
Anyone ever had this problem or know how to fix it... I'm not covered under warranty anymore so before I take it into Apple and the use the KY on me I figured I ask on here to see if anyone can help me remedy this problem.
Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated!Follow these documents.

Mavericks can only boot in safe mode
In can only boot my Imac 27' (end of 2009) in safe mode.
The problem started in Lion, when the computer suddenly froze.
I upgraded (in safe mode) to Mavericks 10.9.2, took away all Launch Agents and Daemon that are not Apple (both in System and User's), done all the permission repairs, reset memory, fsck and turn the plug off the computer. The only thing I was not able to do is the hardware test (for some reason, the command + D to access the internet testing is not working). I have no external devices or cables attached.
My 2TB hard drive is divided in 3 partitions. I have got 2 user accounts.
Even with all this, I can only start in safe mode.
Here is a copy of the log. If anyone can help, I would be grateful !

I would like to try and turn off bonjour, as it seems like a MDNSResponder Error. But need a green light from any of you experts.
I am posting the latest system log (on this one, I forgot to unplug the printer)
Please help !!!

Can't boot iBook with install disc
Hi All,
I've inherited an old clamshell iBook that freezes every time I try to boot from the install disc.
The iBook came with 0S9.2 installed and everything seemed to be working OK. I then tried to upgrade it using a retail Jaguar disc and it froze on booting up. Now it won't even load OS9 but instead gives me a blinking folder with a question mark.
When I try to install from the Jaguar boot disc, I get the Apple logo and then it freezes right there. I tried zapping the P-Ram a few times and that didn't fix it. I tried holding Option key when loading and got to the screen where it lists boot options. I chose OS X and it after the logo comes up, it freezes.
Have also tried re-seating and completely removing the RAM. No difference.
When I go into verbose mode I get some kind of kernel panic error freeze and the keyboard won't let me input anything.
I reached the open firmware screen and it says Powerbook2,1 4.1.7f4 so I think that means my firmware is fine for OS X.
I unfortunately don't have access to an OS 9.2 disc so can't boot into that from disc. I think my 9.2 system folder needs to be re-blessed or something like that but have no way to reach it.
Any suggestions?Ok, well, I believe that in order to re-bless the OS 9 system folder, you need the OS 9 CD. (I'm not an OS 9 expert, but that's what I've seen online).
However, if you install 10.2 (or 10.3) on the computer, it should boot right into it and you don't even "need" OS 9 any more.
I'm starting to think you have a hardware problem of some kind, and the first place to check is the RAM. OS X is more finicky than OS 9 was with RAM, so do you have another memory module you could install to check? Or perhaps another clamshell (like was suggested) to try your RAM in?
Do you have an Apple Hardware test disk? My next suggestion would be to get one and to run the test and see what (if any) hardware is having problems.
And one more thought: if you can boot using the 10.3 disk, try running Disk Utility and repairing your disk a couple of times. Maybe there's a problem in your hard drive.

Can't log in with valid password, can't boot from disk, can't access disk utility, in single user mode can't reset password as appears locked in caps mode with '?' for forward slash, can anyone help?
Which keyboard layout you were using? German, French ... I suppose your layout is reset to the default: US and you are unable to find the "?" or "/" ...
Please have a look into the keyboard viewer, to see how the layout of your keyboard is actually.

Can you send me a .pdf or webpage that details the differences between CRM 4.0 and 5.0. I was told the 5.0 release notes has this information. I do not know where I go to access them. If anyone has a .pdf that would be helpful, Respectfully, Raj
