Powerbook g4 connectivity issues. B allowed?

Other than this my airport 802.11n is going rather well. I own a powerbook g4 that can not connect to my airport extreme 802.11n. Of course while other (newer) laptops in the house have an "n" network mine only has a "b" one. Currently the airport is set on a radio mode of "802.11n (802.11a compatible)" would changing this to a "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" or perhaps another radio mode allow my laptop on the network? or would this either do nothing or ruin the network. If so could anyone suggest another reason my powerbook g4 is not allowed on
thanks in advance, charlie

I too have the AE 1G and I use the "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)" wireless mode setting. My PBG4 (Ti) works fine with 802.11b as does an older PBG3 Lombard with an 802.11b wireless card. Try that setting.
Is it possible that you have MAC address filtering on and forgot to add the MAC address to the table or entered it in error?
Make sure the password and security settings are correct. An error in security setup may appear as an inability to connect.
There have been times when the two laptops got stuck with a local IP address assignment because of a configuration error.
Have you ever taken the PBG4 to a public access area and been connected? If not, you might try it to make sure everything works.

    Hi,
I currently have Photoshop CS5.1 on Windows 7 (64 bit) and it's now requesting I need to re-activate it, despite having already done this with a serial number when I installed it and even used the program numerous times.
I get a screen saying "Product activation is required" but every time I try to activate it, it says there was a connection issue and asks me to connect to the internet.
I've checked my firewall settings and Adobe is allowed through. No connection issues using my Browser, Skype etc.
    Anyone got any solutions?

  • My MacBook Air has recently started having substantial WiFi connectivity issues. How do I fix this?

For the last couple weeks my MacBook Air has started having some mighty substantial connectivity issues.
When I wake it from sleep, or if I'm using it for an extended period (say, more than 5-10 minutes), the connection will become extremely unreliable. This primarily happens with browsers, or the Twitter application. For example, if I start a call on Skype the call will continue to function just fine, but I won't be able to connect to any websites through any browser. I've tried Safari, Chrome, and Firefox while the connectivity problems are occuring. When they do occur, a full shut down and cold boot are required to make it work again for a short while.
Does anyone know what might be causing this? I've done numerous checks for malware using Clam Xav and Sophos Anti-Virus. (I didn't suspect that this would be the issue, but it was still something that I decided to rule out.) Additionally, I've tried connecting using both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands on my wireless router. Neither seems to be more successful than the other. (Note: The 5GHz works perfectly and without interruption on my iPad and desktop PC. The 2.4GHz works perfectly with my iPhone 4S and Xbox 360. I feel that with that in mind, I can safely rule out the router as the root of the problem. Both of these examples go on for very extended periods of time. I game regularly using both my PC and Xbox 360.)

    Hi Jollified,
Does your sound work when you try to use head/earphones? If so, try the following:
Plug your Headphones into your Mac.
Play a sound through them (a song for example), then stop the sound.
Make sure 'Preferences' is isn't open. If it is, Quit.
    Launch System Preferences > Sounds.
While the Sounds tab is open and set to 'Headphones', pull out the Headphones from the jack.
You should see your Mac reset to 'Internal Speakers'
Also, I see you have tried resetting the PRAM, have you tried resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)? Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
As for your MacBook not sleeping when you close the lid, there are many reasons this can occur.
First of all, check out Apples article on the issue: OS X Yosemite: If your Mac won’t go to or stay in sleep If you find these steps don't help, try a few of the following:
A common cause for the Mac not sleeping is your printer. If there are queued jobs waiting to be printed, but your printer is switched off, for some reason you Mac just wont like it and simply will not go to sleep. System Preferences > Print and Scan > Open Print Queue
Do you have an Ethernet Cable connected? People have reported in the past that removing their Ethernet allowed their Mac to sleep. This goes for other things you may have connected directly to your Mac also.
Try heading into your Mac Preferences > Sharing and deselecting 'Internet Sharing' as well as 'Printer Sharing'.
Also deselect Wake For Network Access by heading to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Power Adapter > Wake For Network Access.
Energy Saver > Schedule > Startup or Wake - Uncheck.
Alternatively, set your system preferences to Never Sleep, and put into Sleep manually: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Computer Sleep > Never.
    Good luck!

  • IPad2, Verizon 3G, VPN Connectivity Issues

Greetings all. I am the systems administrator for my corporation and have seen an issue that I wish to present to the community for discussion.
For those enterprise users that have an iPad2 with Verizons 3G, are you experiencing connectivity issues while trying to connect to your VPNs from the 3G network? If so, have you found any work around to allow connectivity or does it work fine for you?
Here's a summary of my issues:
We have a VPN server built on Debian Linux that has been in operation for over four years. It handles remote VPN connections from Windows, Linux,  Android, OS X, iOS, and from many different devices including multiple flavors of Apple products (iMacs, Minis, MacBooks, iPads, etc.). To date, it has performed flawlessly with assorted devices connecting to it through broadband and assorted 3G networks.
Recently I purchased an iPad2 with Verizon 3G. I was able to set up the VPN connection using PPTP and connect using a Wi-Fi connection. When I turned off the Wi-Fi and attempted the same connection via Verizon 3G, it fails. I then took an associates iPad1 using AT&T 3G, set up the same connection, and was able to connect. I don't have access to an iPad2 on AT&T 3G so, I can't speak for that.
Here's the logs from the VPN server while connecting from my iPad2:
    Wi-Fi
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: pptpd-logwtmp: $Version$
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: pppd 2.4.4 started by root, uid 0
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Using interface ppp2
    Jul 27 05:20:43 localhost pppd[31694]: Connect: ppp2 <--> /dev/pts/4

    Jul 27 05:20:46 localhost pppd[31694]: pptpd-logwtmp.so ip-up ppp2 scott XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (removed external IP for security reasons)
Quick connect, able to utilize VPN connection normally. No issues.
    Verizon 3G
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Plugin /usr/lib/pptpd/pptpd-logwtmp.so loaded.
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: pptpd-logwtmp: $Version$
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: pppd 2.4.4 started by root, uid 0
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Using interface ppp2
    Jul 27 05:20:29 localhost pppd[31682]: Connect: ppp2 <--> /dev/pts/4
Jul 27 05:20:32 localhost pppd[31682]: peer refused to authenticate: terminating link
    Jul 27 05:20:33 localhost pppd[31682]: Connection terminated.
    Jul 27 05:20:33 localhost pppd[31682]: Exit.
As you can see, the peer refuses to authenticate causing the link to be terminated while attempting to connect using Verizons network. This is with the same VPN connection settings on the iPad2 that just worked with WiFi connection from the same device.
Here's what I can verify with regards to 3G networks:
Older (<4) iPhones and iPad1 using AT&T can connect
Windows and OS X based laptops using Sprint 3G can connect
Android based smart phones using Sprint 3G can connect
I have not called Verizon or Apple Support yet but, that's next when I have the time. My initial conclusion is that there is something with Verizons 3G services that is causing the issue. It may be that Verizon is using some sort of data compression process that is problematic with VPN transmission. While the log shows an unsupported IPv6 protocol when connecting via Wi-Fi, it still negotiates a successful connection and I don't think that's the root cause for the disconnect. Thoughts?

    Hi Alexander,
I am running in to the exact same issue (although not with Linux).  Did you ever find a fix for this?  I have some support tickets open with my VAR's, but found your post and thought I would check.  If I find anything I will post.
    Thanks
    Stu

P.S. I was thinking lately, why, after spending so much money, should I spend several days already, in agregate, trying to understand the issue and how it should be resolved? Have I not paid for not having such problems?

    Here is a lot more:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/wirelessnetworking/topic4035.html
Highly interesting is the post of J.Exby which i reproduce here:
For months I've not been alone in holding to the notion that the airport client software on Mac OS X 10.4.x has been problematic and unstable in certain (noisy, crowded, channel overlapped) wireless environments. Issues littered around the Internet Mac forums include problems of networks appearing, then disappearing. This is a difficult problem to pin down, given the difficulty of reproducing the conditions that might cause wireless network dropouts.
A major symptom of the problem was seeing the constant messages of:
"An error occurred joining the AirPort network" (Try Again) (Cancel)
when attempting to connect to a wireless network, despite that network being seen, having correct security settings, etc.
Various temporary fixes/ideas floated around the mac community have included:
    - reseting pram, nvram and PMU
    - installing 10.4 from scratch, instead of 10.3 to 10.4 upgrade process
    - Repairing permissions, run Combo updaters, etc
    - putting system to sleep or reboot for temporary connection fix
    - applying AirPort 2005-001 patch (or not)
    - upgrading (or downgrading!) AirPort basestation firmware
    - changing AirPort channels
    - enabled (or disabling) Interference Robustness
    - disabling Bluetooth and BT peripherals
    - removing WEP/WPA passwords out of Keychain
    - running Keychain First Aid on user/login keychains
    - buying new AirPort extreme cards
    - replacing AirPort base stations with other vendor hardware, etc.
With the stability of our Windows XP clients now (after driver updates) and the change from Apple base stations to Belkin Wireless Pre-N Router having no appreciable benefit for our Mac notebooks, the OS X AirPort client software suspicions only grew.
    During troubleshooting I always have
    Applications--->Utilities--->Console
    and
    iStumbler (96)
running, and I watch output as wireless scans are performed.
From the Terminal I also run:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport -s
    and usually see constant
    AirPortScanner WirelessScan error -2013261821 airpInternalErr
    messages.
After two days of testing (and fixing?) I am even more convinced there are bugs in the powerpc 10.4.x AirPort Extreme Framework!
    This is what I found:
    Environment at our office:
    - wireless Network A (802.11g channel 1, WPA personal)
    - wireless Network B (802.11b channel 6, WEP 40bit ascii)
    - wireless Network C (802.11g channel 11, WPA personal)
(WAR-marching around our office exterior shows at least 12 outside wireless networks found at various signal strengths!)
    Test systems used:
    - iBook G4 (10.3.x and 10.4.5)
    - Powerbook G4 (10.4.5)
    - Intel iMac (10.4.5)
Primary symptom on iBook: networks not displaying long enough under the AirPort icon/menu (or Internet Connect) to connect to ANY network reliably! Perhaps connect to Network A intermittently, never even see Network C.
iStumbler showing some networks respond to poll, then immediately stagnate/disappear.
Primary symptom on Powerbook: stable connections to Network C most times, difficulty "switching" to Network B or A once moving closer to source. Usually stable "seeing" networks via AirPort menu icon, but still have occasional dropouts (due to fluctuating signal strength or interference?).
Primary symptom on Intel iMac: NO PROBLEMS! Can connect to (and steadily "see") all valid Networks A, B, C !
iStumbler constantly polls all available networks, with no dropouts.
    Steps taken:
    1. Wipe iBook hard drive, install 10.3 from dvd. AirPort signals unreliable.
1a. Perform all 10.3.x Software updates, Repair Permissions, reboot. AirPort still unreliable.
    2. Reset PRAM, nvram, PMU. no improvements.
    3. Reseat AirPort Extreme card, ensure antenna is firmly plugged in. AirPort still unreliable.
    4. Wipe iBook, install 10.4.3 "fresh" from Full retail version DVD. AirPort still unreliable.
4a. Perform all 10.4.5 Software (combo) updates, Repair Permissions, reboot. AirPort still unreliable.
    5. Hold down the Option key, and click on the AirPort icon in the menu bar.
    select About AirPort...
pay particular attention to each system showing:
    iBook: AirPort Framework 421.13.0
    powerbook: AirPort Framework 421.13.0
    intel iMac: AirPort Framework 426.1.0
Aha! A big difference with the AirPort Framework component version on the Intel iMac!
    6. So, using the Terminal let's get this newer Apple80211.framework onto the iBook.
    First on the intel iMac:
    cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    sudo tar cf ~/intelApple80211frame.tar Apple80211.framework
Copy this intelApple80211frame.tar file onto a USB thumb drive, CDR, iPod, scp, etc. to copy it onto the iBook (home directory).
    7. With the tar file copied into the home area on the iBook, turn off iBook's AirPort via the menubar icon.
    Now launch Terminal and:
    mkdir backup-framework
    cd /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks
    sudo mv Apple80211.framework ~/backup-framework/
    sudo tar xvpf ~/intelApple80211frame.tar
Launch Disk Utility, Repair Permissions on boot drive.
    Reboot iBook.
    8. Turn Airport on via the menubar icon.
iBook now has HUGE improvements in wireless connectivity! It can "see" all Networks A, B, C reliably and can connect to any of them when in range (having enough signal strength). Switching between networks is successful 90% of the time. Occasional message of:
"An error occurred joining the AirPort network (Try Again) (Cancel)"
usually works after clicking (Try Again), whereas before Try Again almost always failed.
I am unsure how this newer Apple80211.framework will affect future Software Updates on the iBook, but frankly I could care less now that it's able to access all of our wireless networks!
I am unsure if this is the magic-bullet solution for a majority of people, but I'm stunned that Apple appears to be providing new and improved Apple80211.framework software with the intel iMacs, but many of us have been fighting AirPort problems on PowerPC platforms for months!
Come on Apple, OS X 10.4.5 should contain the SAME software component versions for ALL CPU platforms!

  • Outlook with Exchange connection issues

I am implementing a security policy which includes blocking all outbound traffic on the firewall of our network (Except normal 80, 443 etc). It seems
that if I apply this, some users aren't able to connect to exchange. This appears to be related to Outlook Anywhere. What ports would I need to allow to prevent this connection issue?

    Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to solve the Outlook with Exchange connection issues, Please follow these steps: -
    Microsoft introduced
RPC over HHTP as a better way for Outlook client to connect to Exchange. The MAPI connections still use RPCs, but they encapsulate those with an HTTP connection. Since that HTTP connection is secured using SSL, it is may be
more accurate to call it RPC over HTTPS. These connections only require connectivity
over TCP port 443, which as you know is assigned to HTTPS and is normally open by
    firewall admin for web servers.
    Outlook Anywhere wraps
Remote Procedure Calls inside an HTTP layer to allow connectivity with the Exchange server. This simplifies the firewall administration process requiring only
the SSL port 443 to be opened to the CAS (Client Access Server) instead of several ports to the actual Mailbox Server (MBX).
I hope this information will be helpful for you.
    Thanks and regards

  • Connectivity Issues Cisco ASA 5515 in Transparent Mode

    Hi,
we´re having problems with one transparent mode setup at one customer site. The ASA is equiped with a CX Module, but we´re not using it, so far in the service policy rules it was enabled and matched all traffic, but in "monitor only" mode. There is a global acl that allows any-any-IP.
    Firewall-Info:
    - ASA Version 9.1(2)
    - Interfaces gi0/0 + gi0/2 without any interface errors
The ASA 5515x is configured as a "bump in the wire". In general our setup is working but with beginning of the installation of the firewall the customer faces following connection issues, without the firewall no problems:
    - Connections to SAP-Servers behind the MPLS begin to drop, affected all users
    - Incoming monitoring sessions (ping/snmp) from central management are facing ping timeouts, connection timeouts
    - http downloads are stopping, Customer: it will stop responding and the download will fail.
In general the customer describes it this way: "We do not have the best connection here so once we connected the firewall all the problems are magnified"
I recognized, that we unconfigured the default inspection during initial setup and reconfigured this entry for the cx module. So the the default inspection with all the settings are not present any more... How important are these settings? One phenomen is, that I´ve seen a large numbers of concurrent connections that increased over time. And we already had that situation, that the firewall reached the max-conn count.
Should I try to reconfigure the default inspection, as it ships from factory? And whats the best way to check for problems? What can be the reason for the dropping connections?
I attached a network plan and the firewall config, hopefully, that somebody has an idea. Of course I can provide additional information...
    Best Regards
    Sebastian

    Hi Vibhor,
thanks for your reply. Does this also affect the traffic, even the setting is set to "Monitor Only" ?
Is it recommend to configure the default-inspection rule as a default setting?
Further Question: I´ve read sth. about, that service policy rules must be "reloaded" to take effect, after they have been changed. Is that right and how do I reload them?
Here is an output from sh asp drop, do I have to care about certain values? This values result from two connected users doing some downloads over a 2Mbit connection.

  • Anyone else still having iOS 8.1 Bluetooth Connection issues.

Hi there just wanted to see if anyone is still having the Vehicle "Hands Free" Connection issues via Bluetooth on the iPhone 6? I drive a 2009 Acura TL and I am still having the connection issue. Oddly enough before the 8.1 update I was running 8.0.2 and it worked fine. Now when I get in my car and the phone connects it cripples the entire system. It won't allow me to change to the USB mode for my connected iPod and when I try to place a call via the "Hands Free" system it beeps as if it is activating and then does nothing.
I have tried everything that I can think of with no results. I was hoping there was someone out there with the same car or similar having the same problem that might have found a fix. Chime in and let me know.

I am having similar problems with Bluetooth connectivity but not with a car.  I use a Planatronics Legend.  Everytime that a call comes in, my Legend announces the call then immediately disconnects from my iPhone.  All of this started after upgrading to ios 8.1.
Apple should not advertise fixes to problems without truly confirming the repairs.

  • AOL email connectivity issue - Sends but does not receive

I have 2 AOL email accounts on my Droid X.  Up until Thursday, I had no issue receiving emails to both addresses.  Suddenly on the Thursday my default account kept indicating connectivity issues with the account.  The other AOL account worked perfectly.
I can still send from default AOL account and they are received, but I am not able to receive any email into this account.  I tried to forwarding these email addresses to my gmail account.  But gmail is not receiving emails from either account.
    Any suggestions?

i didn't know people still used AOL mail LOL
Time Warner took over AOL and allowed customers to retain their AOL accounts to minimie the headache of converting everyone...
Now to the ones having issues, have you tried contacting AOL and make sure they are not transferring or updating a server, because usually when they do this it can effect some accounts but not other just as you have discribed. They may require a new port entered or even pop, imap or smtp access information.  Drop them a call and verify incoming and outgoing addresses.

  • Itunes store connectivity issues

I am new to itunes. I have never connected to the store, however, I recently downloiaded version 8 and attempted to access the itunes store and received multiple errors. Specifically: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store unkown error -3212 and unkown error -11222" The term used was check your network connection and try again. Since I have read the previous posts, I must admit I'm a fairly pc illiterate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Problems connecting to the iTunes Store often stem from issues with the Windows firewall or a firewall in a router, a privacy filter (such as McAfee Internet Privacy Service or Norton Internet Security), an antivirus/antispyware utility, or a download accelerator. Start here:
iTunes for Windows: iTunes Store Connection Troubleshooting
iTunes for Windows: Connection Issues when using Internet Filters, Accelerators, or Firewalls
Tunes for Windows could not establish a secure connection to the iTunes Store
iTunes for Windows: Possible iTunes Store Errors
for some basic tips to start isolating the cause of the problem. What you may need to do is temporarily disable any such service and see if that fixes the problem. If so, then if it's a firewall/Internet filter that's causing the problem and you'll need to set the offending service to allow iTunes to connect to the iTunes Store. If none of what you read in those articles makes sense to you, you may want to recruit a friend or family member who's more experienced with computers to help you.
    Hope this helps.

"The following CLI commands have been added to allow devices that do not understand the controller's proxy Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) response without a minimum packet size of 60 bytes to communicate with the controller: show advanced dot11-padding, config advanced dot11-padding enable"

  • SQL Server Connectivity Issues

    Hi,
I am getting the below error intermittently. On the Database server, CPU, Disk I/O, and Network all look fine.
Any suggestions on where to track what may be causing this issue? Thanks!
The underlying provider failed on Open. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The wait operation
timed out.) ---> System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The wait operation timed out
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Restarted the server 5days ago but getting these connection issues each day since and for a couple of weeks before restart.
Apps connecting are .Net and using Entity Framework, but occasionally I get the connection error when attempting to connect through SSMS.
    Full error below...
    Error Checking Previous SignOffs
System.Data.EntityException: The underlying provider failed on Open. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. • Macbook Connectivity Issues -- Ongoing

I have had problems with my girlfriends Macbook since she bought it. It connects to my wireless network (which has two other computers on it, one of them being my Powerbook G4, it also has an airport express connected). My Powerbook G4 has never had an issue, it can connect to all websites, it can connect and play music through the airport express and it can connect to other computers on the same network. Her Macbook connects to the router, can access most internet sites, it cannot connect to the airport express (it never has) it just attempts to connect but never does, also it can not connect to any other computer on the network. HOWEVER, everything works as it should (including the airport express) when I connect her computer to the router via an ethernet cable.. It has been to the apple store once already for this issue, they replaced the airport card. But it never fixed anything. In the past few days it will no longer to connect to most internet sites, including apple.com. It does connect to google.com and many others, but for some reason some of her more commonly used sites no longer respond. I can try it on her computer and get "Connection Timed Out", walk over to my Powerbook and connect to the site just fine. Both her Macbook and my Powerbook are running 10.5.6, both are fully updated. I would appreciate anyones help with this, I know what I am doing, have done everything I can think of to this computer to get it to work (including reinstalls, changing router settings, everything..).
    EDIT
forgot to mention this problem also occurs on other wireless networks, not just mine. So I know its not my network/router.

I have this problem sometimes. Usually I try some combination of restarting the computer and/or restarting the wireless router. One time I had to do a hard reset of the router to make it work.
