POWERBOOK G4: Display comes on for 1 second

PROBLEM:
I start it up my Powerbook and I get screen activity for about 1 second (see videos) and then it goes dim. You can still (barely) see the display.
STEPS TAKEN:
* Connected external monitor, pressed F7
* Repairing disk from PowerMac G5 failed in Target Disk mode.
* Reset PRAM.
* Tried starting up from disk.

The screen fickers and goes to almost nothing... What is wrong with my PB?

Heres an update for anyone who's following this.
1) I forgot to mention that hooking it up to an external monitor did not work.
2) I get the "?" system folder icon upon startup. (it's very dim, but i can see it.)
3) Drive repair with Disk Utility fails.
AND THE BIGGEST UPDATE:
4) I took the hard drive out and popped it into an external enclosure and it won't read. It wants me to initialize the drive.

This sounds like screen curtain may be enabled. Screen curtain is a feature that allows display privacy. To disable screen curtain while VoiceOver is enabled, you can three finger triple tap the screen to disable this feature. You may need to press the home button once in order to process these steps. When I power up my iPad Air the Apple Logo comes up like it should then the lock screen only comes up for a second or less so I can't swipe it fast enough to get to the home page. The lock screen just disappears. I have to hit the sleep/wake or home button to bring the lock screen back up so I can swipe it. Have others found this situation with the iPad Air. I have an iPad 2 and it does not happen at all. The Apple store checked it out. One rep said to me this is unusual and had a tech check it out and they said this is normal. If the iPad is suppose to be user friendly, why this extra step to get to the lock screen? Are other owners of the iPad Air having the same problem? If so, what have you done to correct it?

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

Some pictures in I-Photo seem to be corrupted. When I click on them, the photo comes up for a second, then the picture turns black with a white fuzzy circle inside it and what looks like an explanation mark. Some older, some newer, no common thread.

There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the photos that are a problem, some older ones, some newer, some albums have none, some albums have a lot.

time to time (when I have a chance), I will go to Finder, bring up ALL Images and start going through them to label them (before I put a label on them, they are simply listed as 123 jpg, 124 jpg etc.).
You're damaging the Library doing that, and that's the cause of your problem.
Never, ever, ever use the All Images search and work on items in yoyr iPhoto Library. They must only be accessed via the iPhoto window.
Restroe from abck up or try rebuild the Library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Next: You need to learn how to use iPhoto. There's no need to be dragging things to the desktop:

First thing to try is to connect it to the charger that came with it and plug that into the wall outlet. Let it charge for an hour. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the. Phone starts up continue with the setup procedure.
If the phone still does respond Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

When I click on the safari button a blank screen comes up for about one second, then minimizes. I have checked wi-fi connection, and all is fine. Facebook and maps apps still work.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

I can't type anything. Typewriter comes up for a second and phone shuts what I was on and goes to main desktop page.

Today, I cannot type anything. In notes, reminders, email, safari, facebook, every time I go to put the curser on a spot to type, or try to add another note, the phone jumps out of the file I am in and goes to the main desktop page. It worked around 7 PM when I was checking something online while I was out, but when I was back home and tried to update one of the notes I update daily (I am keeping a log), this started happening. It won't go to the typewriter keys (it flashes them for a second and then everything disappears and I am at home page again. When I clicked the bottom middle button, a black screen with the white apple appeared but my icon page came back when I pressed it again. I shut down and immediately opened again, thinking a reboot would help but it didn't. I have it shut down for the night and tomorrow if same problem I will call Verizon. Wednesday, I tried to check my calendar to see what day was best to schedule something, and none of the entries were there... not even the birthdays. I use iPhone calendar as my main calendar and have all my appointments stored there. That did come back about an hour later when I went to add an appointment.
I am hoping this new problem fixes itself with an overnight shutdown and morning reboot. Wish me luck.

This is a pretty bizarre situation, Grandma_Patches. I would suggest backing up your phone to iTunes, completing a restore of your device and then the update. I'm confident that this will address and resolve your concerns. Keep me posted.

"Reader" will only display a PDF for one second, then suts down the PDF.

I recently had an automatic update to "Reader" and now "Reader" will only display a PDF for about one second, then shuts down the PDF. This happens to all PDFs no matter what the scource. I am running Windows 7. What do I need to do to correct the situation. (Yes -- I deleted "Reader" from my computer, the re-installed it. Didn't help.)

Go to C/Programs/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader.
Look for a file named eula.exe (or just eula).
Double click it.
Accept the license agreement.
Reader should work fine from there.
