PowerBook G4 (Double-Layer SD) audio problems

Hi all
In some instances, when running two or more audio applications on a PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) or PowerBook G4 (17-inch Double-Layer SD), the audio may intermittently stutter, echo, or skip backwards. This can happen even if one application isn't playing or the sound is muted in the application (such as when playing a game).
This refers to any application which can produce a sound by the way.
Please see this link which gives information as to the problem and some suggestions to fix the issue.
This is a relatively new issue so expect it to be updated as the problem is further diagnosed.

IMHO, unless we do it as way of protesting, like filling page after page after page of the forum with the same complaint, which will end with Apple locking this thing down, I don't see a point of opening more posts of the same problem.
My 2 cents.

  • Online audio problems

In the past couple of weeks, my Powerbook has developed a curious audio problem: while it will play audio fine from inserted CDs & DVDs, as well as QuickTime files, iTunes samples and downloads, as well as MIDIs, it has stopped playing any audio encountered online - RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, etc. I've tried reinstalling both RealPlayer and Windows Media Player, but to no avail. Any suggestions on how to fix this are most welcome!

I'd run Audio MIDI Setup (it's in Applications/Utilities) and check that Default and System outputs are set to 'built-in audio'.

  • IDVD 7.0.4 Double Layer Problem

    Hey!
I've got a problem! i created a DVD with a video and a diashow. The full DVD has a size of 8,1GB. The Double Layer Disc I use has 8,5GB space.
The iDVD programm by default has only 7,7 GB for a double layer disc, so I always get a massage, that the size is too large for the disc!
How could I get my DVD on this disc?!
    Thanks for helping me!

iDVD says the film length would be 151 minutes.
The size of the blank DVD should be rather 240 minutes....!
PS: Danke, ich finde es auch schön endlich bei Apple angekommen zu sein!

  • LaCie Internal Double-Layer DVD+/-RW Lightscribe in "Digital Audio" model?

I just got this new DVD-burner and before I open the box I would like to know how to install it. The computer is the 533-MHz "Digital Audio" with 896MB RAM and 2 internal hard drives (40GB+80GB). There are two optical drive bays in the front of the machine: the top one has the original CD-only drive and the lower bay is empty.
The G4's manual only deals with hard drive & memory installation and does not mention optical drives.
Should I replace my original CD drive, or should I mount the new drive in the lower bay and keep both drives?
I would like to be able to use it with OS 9.2, 10.2.8 and 10.4.3 (installed on 3 separate hard drives). I am not sure whether it is compatible with 9.2 since that isn't mentioned on the box.
I was not planning to run iDVD on this computer since it is only 533 MHz, but if it is fast enough to somehow burn double-layer discs I would like to be able to do that. I really only picked this particular model because the Lightscribe labelling option sounded intriguing. The drive's box says it will work with G4's of 500MHz or better (but it doesn't say how well).

"I just got this new DVD-burner and before I open the box I would like to know how to install it.
Instructions can be found here: http://www.apple.com/support/diy/
The lower bay is for a zip drive only. You will not be able to intsall at 5.25" drive without cutting the metal drive bay.

  • MBP C2D - Problems burning Double Layer Discs

I encounter massive problems when trying to burn DVD+R DL Discs. The MBP C2Ds internal drive is supposed to burn DL media but the only way to burn them is under win xp using my external philips ED16DVDS usb2 burner. Nero produces coasters using the internal matshita burner.
Under Mac OS Toast as well as Mac OS X give me error messages before starting to burn.
The Media I use is called intenso DVD+R double layer. Intenso media has worked exceptionally well for my needs over the last years. This is no cheap stuff.

  • PB 15" aluminum double-layer SD battery calibration question

The instructions for calibrating a battery on the double-layer SD Aluminum 15" powerbook (visible here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490) say to fully charge the battery, let it rest charged for at least two hours, then use the computer to discharge the battery, and let it rest fully discharged for at least five hours)
What is not clear is whether or not it's OK, during the "rest five hours discharged" phase, to remove the fully discharged battery from the computer, put in a different battery, and continue using the computer. In other words, does the discharged battery need to remain in the computer during the five hour rest period? I'm completely unclear as to what (if anything) is active in the computer during sleep, and whether or not the battery processor and the computer are talking to each other at all during this period.

I always assumed the "rest five hours discharged" phase is actually to completely drain any residual power in the battery, to trigger some sort of reset within it.
(But it's not an easy procedure to follow is it? Clearly something significant was changed for this very last set of PowerBook models, and now four years later some of us seem to be having lots of power-related, battery-charging, problems. I still think that calibration should have been done in conjunction with the OS managing it, and suggesting it be done on a suitable, scheduled basis.)

  • LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support is no longer able to read all lightscribe discs(Blank or Containing Data)

    Hi,
The product Name of my computer is: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment
    Notebook PC support
The number of my computer is : LM610EA#A2N.
Could anyone please at this splendid forum take some of their precious time
out to really reply my questions and solve my problems?
    FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
    My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found
it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
    the computer shuts down suddenly.
    My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR  Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was
unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)

Since no one replied to me at HP forums, although my HP laptop is one of their products, I had to post my problem here to know if my driver is corrupted and needs to be replaced or not.

I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor  third party disc recording software.
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE.
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while
my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the
primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and
then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOTrecognised/Installed on
BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files
at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS.  However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then
clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that
made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto thesecondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same
primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS.
What is meant with with double Layer Support.

Could you please really concentrate with me, and really reply to me to finish this problem pending.
If you had had a look again at my first post, you would have seen that I said that I have done some things, among of which is: I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software
which came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
Yes, you're right the two threads below are concerned about one issue.
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpromedia/thread/5c1aa5e8-9728-492b-a5c3-387f29ee4b6e/#d6f63628-29a3-4adf-b33f-03b33c138910

However, this thread contains more precise details and screen shots about the problem. I was not able to understand whether all lightscribs were not unable to be read or not. However, I now recognized that, and I recognized that only all LightScribe(empty
or used) discs are unable to be read. furthermore, that other thread got far too longer to be followed.
Moreover, I would like you to take some time out to answer my problem about Lighstscribe discs since I am going to purchase 'A battery, Cooling Fan' From the HP agent in Yemen, which is far away from me about 1000 Km. Thus, If my optical disc drive was corrupted
as well, then I would be requesting the 'optical disc  drive' as well from the HP along with 'Battery, Cooling Fan' .

  • Disk Utility fails to create image from double layer DVD

I burned a double-layer DVD using iDVD. It plays fine on the mac and on set-top DVD players. However, when I try to create an image of the DVD using Disk Utility, I get "Can't create image 'name.cdr' (input/output error)". I've tried re-burning the original disk, but it gets the same error when trying to create an image. I've also tried each of the image types, all with the same result.

I was having similar problems, although I don't think my issues was related to a double-layer DVD. What worked for me was selecting File > New > Disk Image from Folder. Select the DVD in the file open/save dialog with the same options you used before (e.g., DVD/CD master, etc).

  • Two complete live shows on a single DVD+R double layer disc

    Hello!
I am a new customer of Adobe's and have gone from Sonic MyDVD v6.1 to v9.0, then to Adobe Premiere Element 3.0 last month, and finally to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 with Adobe Encore CS3 a few days ago with the digital downloads. Absolutely no problems downloading 3.5GB of files, which is unheard of for my computer and no problems whatsoever with serial numbers for the downloads either.
Fortunately for me, all of my problems have been stemming from being inexperienced with Premiere Pro and the online tutorials and help from Forum users have been fantastic! Well, with the exception of the "Desktop Display Mode has been reset because the video card returned an error" error message that seems to keep cropping up and causing my video to look unrendered, despite it all now being rendered, I am at a crossroads of what to do here.
Two years ago, I videotaped one of my favorite local bands performing an outdoor live show in the afternoon and then videotaped them performing at a club the same night. Now I am trying to re-make the same DVD that I made for them using Sonic MyDVD 6.1, because they want to sell it now, but this time on a double-layer disc for better quality (plus I upgraded my crap NEC DVD burner that came with my Dell computer to an LG GSA-H10L since then, which works great and doesn't make error-prone DVDs) and also remove some bonus materials that they thought would only be of interest to them and took up too much space. The only problem is that I deleted all of my original source files because they were taking up too much space and I couldn't save a 10MB file anywhere else. In hindsight, I probably could have split it up into smaller pieces, but that's not the issue now.
When I bought Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0, I remember reading something that said to put two complete video files on the same timeline and just add Main Menu markers and End Point markers to allow the program to auto-populate the chosen DVD template. So I did that, but I hated the templates and there was very little control over anything. Sonic MyDVD at least gave me the option to center the button text. In the end, I upgraded to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
Now I have completed editing the timeline and am happy with everything, but now I see there are no Main Menu markers or End Point markers. Can I still make a decent DVD with two main menu motion buttons that each have Play and Scene Selections options below them with everything on the same timeline/sequence, or do I need to create a new sequence and copy everything from part two of my original timeline to the new sequence? Is there a preferred method?
I didn't see this covered in any of the tutorials, help files, forums, or the downloadable manual that I also purchased. Maybe I missed it, but can anyone offer any insight on this?
    Thank you!
    Matt

Yes, I have Encore installed and did a 4-hour first pass to Export to Encore last night, but it failed about 2 hours in when my Zone Alarm pop-up came up saying it was trying to access the Internet and I was away from my computer for 15 minutes while it was up. Then I restarted it at 11pm and it ran until 3am, when I was hoping to go to bed, but then it began its second pass. Grr! I can't remember if I went to bed at this point and found this when I woke up, or if I was staying up watching its second pass to see if it would go any quicker than the first time, but when it completed, I received this pop-up message:
"The instruction at 0x11ce445a referenced memory at 0x11d00000. The memory could not be written."
When I clicked OK, Adobe Encore shut down.
I'm guessing that if I started with two .AVI files totaling 19.4GB, I should have ended up with something larger than a 3.8GB .M2V file, an 82MB .M2V.XMPSES file, a 936MB .WAV file, and a 3KB .XMP file when this was done rendering. At this point, I don't know what to do with the resulting files or if they are incomplete.
Anyhow, after all that, my main question in my original post was this:
"Can I still make a decent DVD with two main menu motion buttons that each have Play and Scene Selections options below them with everything on the same timeline/sequence, or do I need to create a new sequence and copy everything from part two of my original timeline to the new sequence? Is there a preferred method?"
    Thanks!

  • Burning Double Layer DVDs in iDVD 6.0.3

I can't seem to burn double layer DVDs. I am using an intel iMac which says i should be able to but it won't accept discs to burn.
Is it because i am using 8.5GB discs because iDVD says in the project info that double layer DVD should be 7.7GB?
    Any thoughts...?

I am having the same problem!
I am Using basic DVD+R DL discs.
Under "Project" and "Project Info" i change the "DVD Type:" to "Double-Layer (DL) - 7.7 GB"
the burn process will act completely normal until the very end.
It will spit out the disk and stick on "cleaning up" or on "writing lead-in".
Then, when DVD is reinserted in to the computer, it will read it like a blank disk (it gives you the "you have inserted a blank disc" menu).
If any one has any idea what's going on please let us know. it would be extraordinarily appreciated!

  • HELP: Burning double layer DVD does not work as expected by project info

    Hi,
I have the following problem: I created an new project in iDVD and choose the following settings in the project info: Video-Modus=PAL, Coding=HighQuality, Format=16:9 and DVD-Typ=DoubleLayer. When I saved the project and open it again the project info dialog shows me the following amounts of used space: 1867 MB DVD-ROM, 4595 MB Diashows, 128 MB Menus, 0 MB Film, alltogether 6,48 GB and 200 minutes of duration.
NOW: When I choose to burn the DVD it first tells me that I need to use a double layer DVD because the project is too large to be burned to a normal DVD. If I press OK (having inserted the DL-DVD), I am back in the standard iDVD editing mode. If I then have a look to the settings in the project info it is as follows: 3733 MB DVD-ROM, 4595 MB Menus, 128 MB Menus, 0 MB Film, alltogether 8,31 GB and still 200 minutes of duration. This obviously does not fit to the 7,7 GB DL-DVD so I cannot make iDVD to burn my DVD...
QUESTION: What happend ? Why doubled the DVD-ROM space ? In fact what I can see is that there are several diashows doubled and even lots of picture more than once on the DVD. Could it be that there is a trash somewhere implemented ? I cut and pasted some of the diashows to a different place on the DVD...
    Thanks for answers and support.

In fact what I can see is that there are several diashows doubled and even lots of picture more than once on the DVD.
Do you mean "slideshows" instead of diashows?
Did you add anything to the dvd-rom section of the DVD? If not, you may want to check this section to see what's going on.
Also what does map view look like? Does it show anything that may have been duplicated?
Please tell us your current ecoding settings.
In other words, is the encoding set to Best Quality, Best Performance, or Professional Quality?
Lastly, is this Dvd made up of of only slidesshows / images? Or did you also add a movie/s with actual video footage? And if so, what is the total playback / run time of this Dvd in hours and minutes? (keep in mind iDvd doesn't look at size/s but rather total QT playback in minutes; not to exceed 120 mins per SL Dvd-R and twice that amount for DL media).

  • Dual Layer Break Point problem

    Hi,
I just found out after I updated DSP 4 to version 4.0.3 my Layer 1 on every project since updating gets corrupted!
I thought it was the Dual Layer discs I used that caused the problem, but after I re-installed DVD Studio to the original version 4.0.0 the same project worked perfect.
Anyone else have issues with Dual Layer Break Point after updating to 4.0.3?
I have tried different chapters as layerbreak points on my project, and even a test project, with the same result. The finished discs is barely playable on some DVD players, showing wierd interference and noise, and DVD Player on mac crashes when reaching the dual layer break point, and the plant i send the master have a software to check DVDs and they said that it couldnt find/was corrupt Layer 1 on one of my discs. Hope someone can fix this, DSP is the best software otherwise!
    Best regards,
    Mats.

You can use DVD+R double-layer media, often referred to as DVD+R DL, for burning your dual-layer projects. With DVD+R double-layer media, DVD Studio Pro places the layer break point and sets the switch point to be nonseamless as specified in your project.
DVD+R double-layer discs require you to use the Opposite Track Path (OTP) direction setting when burning the disc. This means that the first layer must be larger than the second layer. See Setting the Dual-Layer Direction for more information.
While DVD+R double-layer discs allow you to burn your dual-layer projects, they tend to have more compatibility issues than the other types of DVD media.
    DVD-R Dual-Layer
If your system contains a DVD drive that can write to the new DVD-R dual-layer media, you can burn your DVD project to it with DVD Studio Pro. However, there are several issues:
Because currently DVD Studio Pro has no way to identify DVD-R dual-layer media as having two layers, burning a dual-layer project to it results in the appearance of an alert message telling you that the DVD media may have insufficient room to hold the project. This message is based on the assumption that the disc is single layer. Both layers of the disc will be written to as needed, however, when you click Continue.
If you are burning a dual-layer project, the break point you set will not affect where the layer break actually occurs. Instead, the first layer is written to until filled, at which point the drive switches to writing to the second layer.
The switch between layers is a seamless layer change not supported by some DVD players, which may stop playing the disc when the switch point is reached.
Important: Do not use DVD-R dual-layer media unless these issues do not impact your project.

  • Audio problems and can't open project to another computer.

I'd like some help with moving a project from my G4 powerbook (10.4.3 1Gb RAM) to my G5 iMac (10.4.4 1.5Gb RAM) both with ilfe 06 installed. I copied the project file across and it won't start up on my iMac. The reason I'm trying to move the project over is that the audio quality on the entire (powerbook) project is absolutely u.s. (created on my brand new powerbook with factory settings intact). I have already used iMovie on my iMac with the same camera and it worked just fine and was kinda hoping that 'porting it over might cure the problem, although I'm not at all sure it will. I think the fault is probably embedded in the original. (incidentally, I CAN open the moved project when I connect my powerbook to my iMac)
    Audio problem:
I noticed, while importing the clips, that my powerbook started sporadically cutting out the audio (unusual I thought!) but I was under a bit of pressure to complete and thought it was just a temporary glitch.
I'd appreciate some help with that also, if anyone has a suggestion.
Anyway, as I said, the project simply won't open on my iMac (I've checked permissions they seem OK) iMovie starts up when I click the project, but stalls until I click iMovie's icon in the dock, where upon the previous project I worked on loads up fine.
Most frustration overall, I thought if I had 2 machines I would have ultimate flexibility - It's not woking out like that at all.
I'm apprehensive about upgrading my powerbook to 10.4.4 at the moment - frightened I'll loose the whole thing!!
I've used iMovie 2, 3 and 5, never had any issues like this before.
    iMac G5 + Powerbook G4 (10.4.3)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Same here. I don't have a solution, but I understand exactly your problem. This is what I did.
Imported movies into iPhoto from stills camera.
Opened iMovie, new project bla bla, dragged from event library (iphoto videos).
    Made/edited movie etc.
All gone well. Exported to iTunes/iDVD etc no problem.
Now, I don't need to keep all the original video clips in iPhoto so can I delete them?
Yeah sure, I'll just drag the iMovie project to my ext HD as per the iMovie help files.(in iMovie)
Opened project that is now on ext HD.
    File/Consolidate/Copy clips & Move events.
But.... it doesn't. The 'Copy clips' box even says '2.2gb' which is the right amount for the movie clips. But they never go to the iMovie project file on my ext HD.???

  • Strange audio problem playback

I have what's probably an easy problem but can't find an
answer anywhere here. When using "Play" or using the return key to
preview my project in Flash 8 on OS X, I can't stop the audio. The
audio is an MP3 voice over.
Pressing "Stop" or using the return key again stops the
playhead, but the audio continues no matter what I do. I can go
back to the beginning and play it again, and now I'll have two VOs
going on at once. The only way I can get the audio to stop is by
    closing out the project.
This is making timing my animation to match what the VO is
    saying very difficult. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem, but only after reinstalling XP
and all my software on a new hard drive. My previous hard drive
hadn't had a fresh install of XP in three years and was giving me
intermittent problems. However my swf's work properly on the old
drive but not the new one. I'm guessing it's one of my updates of
Firefox, flash player (was using 9,0,28,0 but now am 9,0,45,0). My
scenario is complicated because I'm using Flash Media Server, but
again it works on one drive and not the other. The odd thing for me
is that if I create my swf on the new drive with 9,0,45,0 and then
play it back when I boot from the old drive, it still has the same
double audio problem that plays similar to you. My play/pause
button has no effect and the audio just keeps going. If I do pause
the audio and wait for my audio to finish and then hit play again,
my scrubber bar moves but nothing plays until it gets to the end
and starts over. I was also getting double audio at times as well.
Could this be the new player??? Have you figured anything out since
you posted last? I'm using XP, flash 8, Firefox 2.0.0.4.
