Powerbook gets restart message at startup

Everytime I start up my powerbook, i receive a multilingual message asking me to restart. I think its a kernal problem, however i do not have the Mac OS cd to resolve any of the issues. I also cannot start in safe mode because when i try using shift, it just restarts in the normal mode and the message comes up again. What can I do? I also am not quite sure about the operating system but i think its Mac OS 10. Help?

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Do you have TechTool Deluxe or TechTool Pro? Since you don't have the OS X discs, you don't have the Apple hardware test program, however, one of the TechTool products can do the same testing.
A kernel panic, which is what you've described, can be due to a number of reasons. Top of the list is a problem with memory. If you have two sticks of memory you could try removing one or the other to see if that fixes the problem. Otherwise, you might look at this FAQ: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
You can buy a replacement set of OS X discs by calling Apple support.

  • On my laptop I'm getting the message on startup "Insecure Startup item disabled"  How do I stop it from coming up?  Thanks.

On my laptop I get the message Insecure Startup item disabled.  "/Library/Startupitems/PACESupport" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings".
This hadn't happened until after I had used a WiFi connection at a hotel where we were staying.  If I click OK it goes away - no problem - but comes back next time I start it up.  How do I get rid of the message?
    Appreciate any help!

    Go to /Library/StartupItems
Move the PACESupport file(s) from the StartupItems folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, see if it went away.

  • I keep getting a message "Your startup disk is full" but it isn't

I keep getting a message "Your startup disk is full" and my space on the HD fluctuates every second. I have 113 Gbs of free space, but it disappears within seconds and reappears again and repeats.

Yes you should back it up.
Do you have the OS 10.6 disk? You will need it. If you don't have it, you can get one here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
The repair disk procedure does not erase anything on the drive. But before you go any further you should back it up.

  • I keep getting a message on startup saying 'Do you want the application "KodakAiOBonjourAgent .app" to accept incoming network connections?' It says settings may be changed in the Firewall pane of Security? Doesn't matter what I click (Deny/Submit).

I keep getting a message on startup saying 'Do you want the application "KodakAiOBonjourAgent .app" to accept incoming network connections?' It says settings may be changed in the Firewall pane of Security but I don't see how.  Doesn't matter what I click (Deny/Submit). The message still pops up on starup. I have a Kodak printer and am running Mavericks but I don't think it started when I upgraded.

Just fixed this on my machine, the easiest way to remove this pop-up assuming you are no longer needing that software to print is the following:
    Open Finder
    Go > Go To Folder...
    Type In: "~/Library/Application Support"
    Delete All Folders Named Kodak
    Open System Preferences
    Go to "Security & Privacy"
Click the lock and enter your admin password
    Click the Firewall Tab
    Go to "Firewall Options..."
    Find KodakAiO
Right-click KodakAiOBonjourAgent or equivalent (I forget the exact name)
    Click "Show in Finder"
Go Back to a folder and delete the Kodak Folder there.
Remove Kodak from Firewall Options by selecting it and clicking the " - " button the base of the list.
       or
    Open Finder
    Go > Go To Folder...
    Type In: "~/Library/Printers"
    Delete All Folders Named Kodak
I'm going off memory, so If I forgot something let me know.

  • Im getting a message at startup that my HP windows 7 is not genuine.

IM GETTING A MESSAGE AT STARTUP THAT MY WINDOWS 7 IS NOT GENUINE.

Ah the Windows Genuine Disadvantage.... where it's the paying customers that get shafted with silly "activation" issues....
I guess "the industry" is largely overdoing this and in the end they will be shooting themselves in the foot. While I would have bought some stuff from MS and Adobe (Visual Studio and Photoshop), their activation schemes completely put me off so I went with open source stuff like Code::Blocks and GIMP. Not because they are "free" (I can afford and I do pay for my software) but because they don't have any stupid activation scheme to deal with. I guess that after getting shafted several times more and more people will be making this choice and after getting familiar with Linux-world software, in the end the transition to Linux the OS would be an obvious and easy thing to do.
    Nap.

  • Keep getting restart message since installing Mac OS X Lion

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 2.3Ghz i7 and I downloaded Lion OS last night which worked fine for a few hours but when I got up this morning to wake it from sleep it briefly opened but then I recieved the black restart message with a greyed out background telling me to hold down the power button to shut down and then press the power button again to resart. I did this but all im getting is the first apple screen with spinning wheel for a moment then aload of what looks like terminal script flying down the page and then the same restart message shows again. I never get past the first white screen with the apple logo. I have a time machine so I have restored back to the last 10.6.8 backup but Im not happy. Just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems and ideas if any?

    Kate Bernard wrote:

Are the troubleshooting steps for fixing a WiFi connection after waking from sleep relevant to a computer that fails to wake up at all?
    Perhaps.

  • Since updating to 10.4 getting error message on startup 'AppleSyncNotifier.exe – Entry Point Not Found, The procedure entry point xmlTextReaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll.'. How do I fix this annoying problem?

Since updating to 10.4 I've been getting this error message on computer startup
'AppleSyncNotifier.exe – Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point xmlTextReaderConstName could not be located in the dynamic link library libxml2.dll.'.
Please help me fix this annoying problem?
    belle

This is the fix I got from discussions and it worked for me.  It is copied below.  I just did the manual fix which I have underlined. Good luck! Regards, Belle.
This can occur because libmxl2.dll is not in your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support folder.
There have been some issues with this and other dlls not being in the right place (or not being everywhere they should be) since the 10.3.1.55 iTunes update.
However, I note that the 10.4 iTunes update is now out - surprisingly quickly - so try installing that, rebooting, and see if your issue is solved.
If it isn't, though, here's the manual fix:-
With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the libmxl2.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Reboot and see if all is well.
I actually had the issue with SQLite3.dll, and the above fix worked for me (I found it in an April 2010 posting!).
I passed on the fix as above for the similar issue with libmxl2.dll to someone who had exactly your problem, and he reported that it fixed it for him.

  • New HDD getting restart message after carbon copy cloner

    Hey folks,
Been a while since I asked for help, but always glad you are here.
My 160GB HDD was getting close to its limit and slowing down quite a bit, so I figured I'd upgrade to a 500GB Seagate 7200rpm HDD.
Used CCC to do a complete clone. Did the Clone with 500GB drive in a FW enclosure. Took roughly 2 hours and then rebooted from the new clone while it was still in the enclosure. Everything worked fine.
Installed new clone drive in macbook(I have done this before when I went from the original 60GB to 160GB drive and have all the correct tools)
Try to startup with new drive installed and get the greyish mini screen with message to hold start button until it shuts down and press start button again. Tried 5 times with same results.
Should I go ahead and re-clone or use my grey disks to run hardware test?
    MB1,1 2006, 2gigs ram 10.6.7
Thanks for any and all help.
    Adam

Okay. Ran hardware test. No problems found. Checked HDD connectors on both the MacBook and the new HDD. Look fine.
Tried reseating the new HDD to no avail.
Reinstalled old 160 GB HDD and MacBook is running fine as we speak.
Going to try re-cloning. If that doesn't work will try reformatting and doing a fresh install and migration assistant.
    Adam
Anymore ideas before I go to far would be appreciated.

  • Getting error messages upon startup after installing Lab View 5.1.1.

I have recently purchased a DAQ system along with a computer, which uses a readout program written in Lab View. however, after installing Lab View 5.1.1 on this same system, I started getting some error messages and the readout program no longer works. Here are the error messages:
"The \SystemRoot\system32\drivers\nidmmk.dll device driver could not locate the entry point ?single PointWrite@mdsSimpleDIGPortPrimitive@@UAEXKKKAAJ@Z in driver Nidaq32K.sys"
    as well as
"The ordinal 2011 could not be located in the dynamic link library nidaq32.dll. An error occurred while loading VT Digital buffer write.vi"
I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

    Hello,
Installing LabVIEW should not effect an installation of NI-DAQ. However, it seems to me that we may have installed a different version of NI-DAQ on top of the current version. This is very possible because the old LabVIEW CDs contain NI-DAQ on them.
In this case, there is not an easy solution, we could try uninstalling and reinstalling combinations, but it will probably save the most time and effort to uninstall all National Instruments products and reinstall them. The best way to do so is from the ADD or REMOVE Programs utility from the Control Panel. Then we want to remove the following registry keys (BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY!!)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\National Instruments <-- Delete the entire tree!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\National Instruments <-- Delete the entire tree!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\ or \ISA and delete registry entries containing any keys with 1093 in them.
Do not worry if any of these trees are not listed. If you have Administrative rights, and you still cannot delete these keys, that is also OK. Continue with the remainder of the process.
Make sure that you do not have any of your own VIs or other files saved in the "C:\VXIpnp", "C:\Program Files\National Instruments", or "C:\WINDOWS\nidaq" folders. If you do, copy them to a different location. If you are concerned about keeping old virtual channels and your SCXI setup intact, then backup the "C:\WINDOWS\niconfig.daq" file, too. Delete all folders and files mentioned above.
Note: If you have Windows NT/2000, replace "C:\Windows" with "C:\WINNT" in the paths listed above.
Once these steps are taken care of, we should have clean system. You probably want to reboot and then reinstall the software. You should install development environments first, and then install drivers.
Just let us know if this does not take care of the problem, or if you have any questions on how to complete a step of the process.
    Best regards,
    Justin T.

NOTE: Turning off virus scan programs greatly increases the speed of uninstalling and reinstalling.

  • After uninstalling a program (symantec antivirus) I get error messages on startup saying that the program can't run.  Well, no duh, but how do I get rid of the annoying and unneeded error messages?

Neve rmind I figured it out.

If you are referring to Norton's, you will need to use their uninstaller or you will not be able to get rid of it completely. Since I don't know which version you have, here is the search result page (uninstall Norton for Mac) on their website:

  • HT3680 My 3 year old iMac is freezing and I get a message "startup disk almost full for running applications. delete files..." Where do I find the startup disk and what should I delete?

My 3 year old Mac is having trouble and freezes up from time to time lately. I get a message saying "startup disk almost full, delete files ..." something about having enough room for applications to function.  I know my startup disk is the Macintosh HD, but what kind of files do I need to delete and how much space do I need to free up?  In my "about this mac" area, it says I have 4.89gb free out of 319.21  So I am confused why I need to do this.

You're less than 2% free and should always have at least 15% (my SWAG). Best is to get an ext FWHD and move stuff from the startup disk to it and delete it from that. Best things to move are movies, music, and photos, using the apps that manage those things.
