Powerbook OsX 10.3.9 refusing to start from Diskwarrior CD
Just noticed that I posted my question in the wrong forum earlier sp I wil give it a shot here
Trying to start my Powerbook from the Diskwarrior CD holding down the C-key on startup.
The CD starts spinning but when the grey apple on grey background shows up the apple is a little bit "chipped" and it refuses to go any further and the CD stops spinning after a while.
If it is any Disk Warrior older than 3.0.3 it might not work.
Try using the startup manager with the option key to boot:

This is a directory issue that Disk Utility cannot fix. Although it manifests itself as a software issue sometimes it may be hardware based. See DiskUtility reports "Underlying task reported failure" when repairing avolume http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1901?viewlocale=en_US". You can try using a utility like TechTool Pro, Drive Genius or Disk Warrior to repair and replace the directory. Another option would be to use the Archive and Install feature to reinstall. If the problem returns after correction you may have a failing or failed HDD.

OSX no new window appears when started from secondary screen
I have an iMac 27" and a 24" secondary display running OSX 10.6.8.
When I try to "file - New window" from a firefox window on the secondary display the window never appears if I display all firefox windows it is not there, The same happens if I, from a window on the secondary display, do "Move to New Window" on a tab, it just disappears.Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Sometimes an update resets things.
Check your screen sharing setup in system prefs on both machines.
Also, do both machines have the latest Remote Desktop Client Update?
Can you connect to the server normally using Finder?
Lastly, can you share desktops the other way - from the server to the MBP?

Powerbook refusing to start up.
Hi,
My powerbook is refusing to start up, it gets to a white screen with the grey apple logo, and then stops, It just stays on that screen.
i've used the install disc to use disk utility it verifies and repairs my permissions fine.
But after trying to repair my disc has the disc contained an error, it couldn't complete it's task, the message i was given was:
Keys out of order (this was in red)
rebuilding catalog B-tree
The volume Mackintosh HD not repaired
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
and that was that.
i've also tried doing a firmware boot. Now I'm really not sure what's going on? or what to do, I've got files on there which I havent had a chance to back up do to working on them at the time. And so I need them, any advice? is my hard drive failing? because this problem has cropped up a number of times but I've usually managed to get it back up and running after a few attempts.I had exactly the same problem!! but after i tried to repair the disk, fortunatly it managed to work. but then then as soon as i got the machine re-started i backed up the disk, did a 7 pass erase and then started from scratch.. it was a painful exercise but taught me the importance of an external back-up. What i would suggest is that you find another mac, and see if you can access your HDD via the other mac in firewire diskmode. This should enable you to get the data you need of your HDD and then do what i did... i.e. erase and re-install.. Hope that help.. and good luck.

As I say my computer, a mac mini refuse to start. When I turn it on it gives the startup sound and the screen turns grey and stay that way for a long time. And in the end a small folder icon with a question mark inside (it doesn't blink) turns up in the middle of the screen.
I have tried to start up from the installation CD holding down the C key on the keyboard. Same result. I have tried different key combinations while starting up. No result or rather same result. Nothing. Is the computer suddenly dead?
I was about to buy a new computer but I need access to my data on this one (I write this on an iPad) but hven't yet found a way.
Anybody have any good advice?
I thought it was a software problem, that the computer couldn't find the startup software or something and maybe it is, but I am beginning to fear that it could be a hardware problem.You need to re install OSX. If you have the dmg file downloaded via torrentz this is how you can create a bootable external HD or Flash drive (8 GB+)

Installed the latest update and now Finder refuses to start/crashes
Hey guys,
I just installed the latest 10.4.11 update or whatever, along with Quicktime, iTunes, etc., and now when I log in to any account, Finder refuses to start. If it does start, it crashes.
I've googled around and all I could find was that I should switch from one Admin account to another to stop it, but that looked outdated and didn't work anyway.
I'm on a PowerBook G4, 10.4.11. Hopefully someone can tell me how to fix this soon.Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
An Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc...

I recently tried to download a pdf file from a website in the UK. Up popped a message saying the website could not be accessed, followed by this message: "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:". I was able to access the website easily (its domain was "www") and the page listing the pdfs, but could not download a pdf. Of course," c:" appears not to be a valid domain name, but why would anyone use "c:" in place of a domain name in their URL? And what can I do about the problem? I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10, but also have Firefox and Chrome loaded. Thanks.
An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do. -
Firefox refuses to start up at all
To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step. -
In pages, when I get to the end of a line, the text refuses to start again in the left, it continues on the right and goes down the page, anyone know a solution?
Does this occur in all of your Pages documents? Are you certain that you haven't formatted the type to run flush right? (Align right I mean - sorry old typographer lingo). Look at the ruler at the top and check the Align setting.
Have you tried quitting Pages completely and the restart the iPad?
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. -
Firefox is refusing to start. It says that my profile is missing, which it appears to be. Yet the way in which one goes about creating a new profile wont' work either. Anybody have a bloody clue what's going on and how to fix it?
AIR give you classes to detect an on-line or off-line status, it's in
this way for the sake of flexibility for instance what happens if you
only what to sync data only on Saturdays at 2 am? If it were done
automatically that'll be a problem. And it isn't so complicated.

An AIR app can communicate with almost every backend served tech
CF, .Net, PHP, RoR.

I've set up DNSCrypt and Unbound, as explained in the wiki. I've enabled systemd services both for DNSCrypt and Unbound and created configuration file, to have DNSCrypt started before Unbound.
Here is my /etc/systemd/system/dnscrypt-proxy.service.d/unbound.conf:

If it was officially unlocked by O2 it will remain unlocked if reset or updated.
Also, just as a side note if you can help. Its running iOS 3.1.3. Once factory reset and connected to iTunes will it force an iOS 4 update or can you choose not to update the OS?
If you restore it in iTunes it will be updated to the current release, 4.3.1. There are ways around this; Google is your friend. -
Hello!, my name is jan and i am using lightroom 2 for many years. I have an original set-up disk with a 24 digit serial number. I had never problems wih installation of lightroom. suddenly lightroom refuses to start when I try to from a picture i have taken with my nikon D500 and transferred to WINDOWS 8.1. i have tried to re-install lightroom : the procedure asks for the serieal number , but refuses to accept the number that always worked. PLEASE help!! jan
If you are certain you have the right serial number, there really isn't much we can help you with here. You might try downloading and installing the last version of Lightroom 2. It will be the trial version, but when the trial screen appears there is an option to indicate that you have a serial number. Incidentally, Lightroom serial numbers start with the first four digits being 1160.

Dreamweaver cs4 refuses to start. Error window pops up but there is no message
I recently downloaded an Dreamweaver extension (HTML5) for cs4. Shortly after I got an error while I was working in Dreamweaver about the ssi.html server. When I closed dreamweaver and tried to restart, Dreamweaver refused to start. There is a popup message window with an OK button but there is no error message in it. I already removed my personal configuration files but that didn't help. Any suggestions. I looked on the Adobe site but most links to technical notes that could be helpful, were broken.
I have exactly the same problem, except that I regularly open up the npr site. But here is the real problem. I open firefox>preferences>advanced>encryption>view certificates>add exception. But here is the problem. I can not click on the box to permanently store exception. This box appears permanently closed.
I am currently running firefox 9.01, and I've got to say I never had any problems with firefox in all the years I've used it. But ever since it went through this dizzying series of upgrades from 3.6 to the present it has given me problems.
I am a regular npr listener, and so this annoying error message is really making me consider permanently leaving firefox for chrome or safari.
