PowerBook randomly shut off, no longer boots - URGENT
I have a PowerBook G4 15" 1.33GHz that up until now ran flawlessly. Today I was watching a movie on it with some friends when it randomly shutdown. Since then, it no longer turns on. The battery is fully charged and there is no problem with my AC adapter. With just the battery, nothing happens when I press the power button. When the AC adapter is plugged in and I press the power button, the optical drive spins at full speed for a few minutes and then the PowerBook shuts itself down again. I have attempted reseting pram and pmu with no success. Any suggestions?

I have similar problems with my PB which I got it used from a friend of mine about 3 years ago and ran flawlessly until last week. Everything worked until one day i came back home and tried to wake the computer from the screen saver and there was no response even after having pressed every single key and key combination possible. I have done a bit of research and people had similar problems. I then booted it up with the recovery disk and it says that the SMART status failed from the disk utility. I went down to purchase an HD and I've installed it. Perfect, everything was running.... after having tried booting it 50 times with PMU and PRAM methods. I've installed Leopard soon after, even updated to 10.5.1 and when i put it to sleep, it won't wake up properly after i wake it up. However, I can hear the fan, but not the HD nor the optical drive.
So anyone has the same problem? My PB will only start up 10% of the time only from being completely off. It also won't wake up from sleep properly, it turns on, but the screen is black and HD won't turn, same with the optical drive.
I'm sorry that this is a long message, but this is my workhorse and I just lost all of my school work and I'm freaking out. A little help, please?

Powerbook randomly shutting off, but not completely
over the past few weeks, my pb has intermittently shut down, as in, the screen will go black, and the computer goes silent, but it appears like it has gone to sleep, b/c the white light on the front (where you press to open it up when the top is down), but it is impossible to wake up the computer. to make matters worse, i can't turn it off/restart it with the power button - it just doesn't work. in order to restart the computer i have to unplug it from the power source and take out the battery (and press the power button so it realizes that it is not actually on, becasue the white light continues to flash until i do this). and then i can put back in the battery and turn it on. when it restarts, the date/time is all messed up, saying it is jan 1, 1969. any ideas about what is wrong? fortunately it works fine after all this...but i'd love to know if there's something to be done (its still under warranty).

MacBook Pro randomly shuts off and restarts a few seconds later
I brought my computer to the Apple store a couple months ago because the USB port was broken and my computer would randomly shut off. Long story short, they fixed the USB port, deleted all my files, and reinstalled Leopard. The random shut off problem still persists. I have a feeling it has something to do with the graphics card as it seems to happen more frequently when I'm using graphics intensive applications (photoshop, illustrator, autocad through vmware fusion, watching videos on a second screen, etc).
Has anyone had a similar problem? Should I just bring it to the Genius Bar again?I know this is a really old thread, and everyone's probably already bought new computers now. However, I'm still using my 2010 MacBook Pro and have been experiencing this very frustrating issue. However, I think I just found a way to open a finder window that prevents the shut down. In Finder>Preferences>General, under "New Finder windows show", I had "All my files" selected (BAD?), which probably was the cause, because setting that to "Desktop" instead has prevented shut downs, for now. Just thought I should share this tip, in case anyone else suffers from this annoying issue. If anyone has a better tip or a real fix, please post a reply! There are still people, like myself, working on these older machines who would appreciate the info. THANKS!

My 13inch MacBook Pro randomly shut off and won't turn on
My 13 inch MacBook Pro will not turn on at all. It randomly shut off while I was using it and now it won't come back on. The light on the charger is faintly blinking... But it is no longer charging. I tried a different outlet, and a different MacBook charger... Nothing. The screen is completely black and none of buttons or keys are responsive. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but it seems that it shut off not even one second after I connected my iPhone to it via USB. I guess I should include that this was the first time my iPhone was connected to my MacBook since upgrading to ios 6.0. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you..

by “boot” I mean “use as the disk from which OS X will be run”. At the moment, all that is known is that your computer won’t start from its internal hard disk; my suggestion is to see whether it is able to start from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD, which is bootable (i.e. able to be used a disk from which OS X can be run). -

Bit of a long post..
I have a powermacG4 sawtooth which i bought off ebay about 5 or 6 months ago which has worked fine eversince. Before the problems started happening it had a 20GB maxtor harddrive and a ATI rage pro 16mb graphics card. bymyself i added an NEC USB2 card and a Broadcom PCI wireless card. The system was completely fine until i changed the aging rage 128 pro card with a Nvidia geforce 32mb card from my powermac G4 Digital audio (which has been upgraded to a radeon 9000). It seems with this card the computer will randomly shut off, but only when it is not in use. If someone is using it, it will work fine. Sometimes it stays on long enough that it'll go to sleep and then during sleep it'll silently shut off. I have done almost anything that could possibly fix the problem (unplugged atx powersupply, taken out battery, zapped pram, reseated cards, taken out USB2 card (cause i thought that may have been causing the problem) reinstalled tiger on a bigger 120GB drive, replaced the 4 ram sticks with 2 256mb ram sticks, even took a hoover to it and got rid of all the dust.) and now it seems im left with just putting the old card back in which i seriously dont want to do as the old one doesnt support quartz extreme (i really like the RSS screen savers).

My iPhone 3Gs randomly shutting off at any given moment. I could be in the middle of a text, a call, or doing some games and it'll just shut off.
Now here's the unique part. When I go to turn it back on, the apple loading screen pops up but it takes somewhere from 3-5 minutes for it to boot up. Then the lock screen with the time and whatnot shows up. From this point on, my iPhone has a chance to shut itself back down and I have to repeat the process over and over again. Most of the time the lock screen flashes and then goes straight to black (shut down) but sometimes I can make it a few menus before it shuts itself down.
The only way to keep the iPhone on is to plug it into a charger of any sort. I'm fairly certain it isn't a battery charge issue because this happens at any % of power and sometimes my iPhone can use up all of its charge and not have this happen while other times I can be at 90-100% and it could randomly shut itself down. What can I do in this situation if some has some solution to this problem please let me know on [email protected] Thanks!Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

Machine randomly shuts off and then comes back on.
Hello! Basically whats happening is my computer randomly shuts off (No blue screen just powers off) and then immediately comes back on.
I am running three monitors and a single GPU. This has happened in two different cities (I moved) I have the same surge protector - however, other things on the protector do not reset / go off (alarm clock no battery).

I'm a pretty avid builder but I'm a bit stumped with this issue. The machine will, at random, shut off completely (including lights) and then come back on, during normal activities and gameplay.
The temps do not appear to be reaching astronomic levels, maxing out at around 60-65c (cpu) and 45c for the GPU.
Parts:
cpu - i7 3960x (turbo enabled normal at 3.3, w/ turbo at 3.9ghz)
mobo - MSI X79A-GD45 /// Intel DX79SI (have tried both, it still happens with either, MSI is a new board.
psu - 750 Antec Gold High Current Pro
gpu - MSI Lightning 680 (no OC)
sdd - samsung 840 pro
hdd - Black 1TB
case - HAF 942-x
cooler - x40 kraken
ram - G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 32GB (DDR1600)
Here's what I tried
1. Bought a new motherboard (MSI $260) to see if the issue would go away. - Failed.
2. Was able to reproduce the issue VERY quickly when using the OC Genie2 on the MSI board, with teh button pressed, I could boot up OCCT and have it reproduce the issue with the power-off in around 2 minutes of the test. - Failed
3. Attempted PSU and GPU stress test with stock BIOS, tests ran 1 hr+ each with no issues. Shut down my machine and restarted it this morning and the issue came back within 5 minutes of use just sitting at the Windows Desktop. - Failed.
4. Turned the 32 GB of ram to 1600 and enabled XMP, crashed after 3-5 days.
5. Attempting to test each DIMM individually.
6. Issue happened again after about two weeks of not happening.
I've run OCCT for an hour with the "stock" bios and it didn't crash for an entire hour. I've also attempted to use the "OC genie2" overclock function and that triggered a crash within 2 minutes of the run.
Can anyone give me some more things to try? I'm thinking its possible it could be the PSU, but after running OCCT PSU test for 30+ minutes it had no issues.* Bugcheck Analysis *

I bought my mac book pro last december and everything goes well until last Tuesday. My mbp suddenly shut off by itslef when I was playing legaue of legend. This never happened before, and that was my first time. After that, my mbp keep shutting down randomly everytime when I played league of legend. Sometimes, it randomly shut off or restart by itself when I was watching a drama on an app called "pps", or even when I was maunally turned off the computer.. This problem really frustrated me becasue I spent like 3000+ dollars on this crap... I brought my mac to Apple Retail store and they told me that they have to replace a logic board in order to solve the problem. They also told me that the logic board will arrive in next 3 to 5 business days. I was like "okay". GUESS WHAT, I JUST CALLED THE APPLE STORE TODAY, AND THEY JUST TOLD ME THAT LOGIC BOARD WILL ARRIVE IN NEXT 6 TO 10 DAYS. WTH.. SERIOUSLY... so they just randomly delayed the date? Our coustomers spent so much money on support and buying iproducts...and... .. and .. sigh..
So i am wondering if there is any solution/ way to fix my computer, other than waiting so long to replace my logic board. Also, I am wondering if I can replace my mbp for a new one.. since my mac has such a bad technical flaw.

Macbook Pro Help Please! Why does it randomly shut off?
My late 2009 Macbook OSX 10.9.2 keeps on randomly shutting down. When it's charging, everything works fine. However, if not, the computer randomly shuts off either 2 min into when I use it or 20 min into it. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Macbook Pro 2007 Random shuts off
I start having issues with my Macbook pro it's randomly shuts off, sometimes in 5 minutes, 30 minutes , 3 hours or even before it will boot to the os.
It's getting really hot and fast without doing anything, any help??My macbook started with the monitor going black but the light was still on. Now it will randomly shuts off and a light blue screen pops up saying my computer shut down due to a problem. Then reboots. This happens sometimes 5 times a day, sometimes none. I thought it had something to do with using video because it tended to happen when i was watching video. Now I just move my computer on my lap and there it went.
I took it to the genius bar - they ran tests, etc. and found nothing (after 5 days). The guy was extremely rude and not helpful at all. After my IT guy and myself went to the Apple store, they gave us a hard time saying they couldn't replicate the error. So after a few seconds, the man changed his mind and said he was going to change my logic board.
$600 later (luckily still under warranty) - my computer shut down again tonight.
Not a clue what the problem is. I had 90% battery life. I have noticed that recently I've been putting my copmuter to sleep before I close it.
Anyway that could be it? -
My 3GS iPhone randomly shuts off
My 3GS iPhone randomly shuts off or gives a low battery indicator even when the battery is not low. I tried going to the Apple store and they were not helpful saying to close out apps using the multi-task button. Even after doing that, my phone was continuing to shut down. First is was around 33%, then 54%, then 76%, then even at 97%. So I had the battery replaced with a brand-new battery.
Now not only does the phone randomly shut down saying a low battery, but it is not recognizing the charge on the battery. I had the phone on for six hours unplugged and it remained at 100% charge. Then I went to make a phone call on it and after two minutes the phone completely shut off. It would not accept a charge. I had it charge overnight. I tried using different cords. I tried plugging it into a USB port on a computer, using the wall charger, and a car charger. The phone kept saying the battery was dead. Then miraculously then phone started to work a day and a half later, but only for one phone call. Then phone died again and has not accepted a charge for two days now. You would think after two days, the NEW battery would be charged.
My phone is not under warranty. I do not have the funds to purchase a new iPhone at this time.I know there have been a lot of posts about this, but I have tried every concievable option out there and nothing is working. I'm frustrated. Is this an operating system error and can it be fixed? Or is the phone trashed? ARGH!!So Brad, just an update...
My phone periodically works and then it doesn't. The battery percentage indictator still continues to remain at 100% charge though I know common sense would tell me that the battery percentage would be decreased if the phone sat unplugged and on all day long. When then phone does work, I try to restore it, but iTunes keeps saying that there must have been a connection failure and iTunes had to stop downloading. FYI- I have no connection issues with my Internet.
Here is the weird thing...
Sometimes the phone is still showing the dead battery page and asking me to charge the phone. So I'll plug in the phone, let it sit charging for 4 hours, 12 hours, even days at a time... and it will continue to have the battery dead screen asking me to charge the phone. So then I will unplug the phone and leave it alone. After approximately 48 hours, I'll go back to the phone and hit the Home button and miracuously the phone would turn on. It is as if the phone is confused and the battery life is being drained when it is plugged in, but then miracuously recharges itself while sitting unconnected to any cords or plugs.
This makes no sense and I cannot explain it. I have waited to respond to your initial postings because I wanted to see if I could restore the phone. In addition, I wanted to confirm I was not crazy and that the phone is actually acting opposite what it should in reference to charging vs. non-charging.
Any idea why the phone is acting backwards in regards to the battery life? Since my last post, I've only been able to actually turn on my phone 3 times, literally once a week and then it only lasts for about 12 hours before dying on me again. -
27' Imac Randomly Shutting Off.

Got sick and tired of fixing them all the time and having friends call with issues almost everyday. So 3 months ago i made the switch and all i can say is that i dont regret it one bit. My imac has been great other than this issue i just reported. But i did put 16gb of corsair ram in it and that could have been the problem. My guess is that i just needed to reset everything after putting this new ram in and wallaaaa. If you are looking to make the switch i can garantee you wont regret it.

Erase and reinstall help - random shut off
I've been to diagnose my random shut off of my early '06 iMac Intel. It seems to shut down when I use a lot of memory.
I've done the AHT, resetting the PRAM, ran TechTools, and DiskWarrior.
It doesn't happen as frequently, but it still occurs. Shuts down randomly once a week. And I have to wait 10 minutes or more to start up again.
I saw a some users reinstalled OS X and it helped them.
SO FINALLY MY QUESTION, , I'M CURRENTLY RUNNING OS X 10.5.8 LEOPARD, BUT MY iMac ORIGINALLY CAME WITH TIGER 10.4.4, WHEN I ERASE AND REINSTALL DO I NEED TO USE THE ORIGINAL TIGER DISKS OR CAN I USE THE NEW LEOPARD?

I noticed a shut off when free memory is 500 or less.
Fantastic obsevation, RAM is one of the hardest things to test for, RAM tests can only be trusted if they find a problem, not if they don't... seems OSX is a better RAM tester than any RAM test, that being said...

IMac intel randomly shuts off. Can't figure out why.
Hello,
I have an Intel based iMac purchased in 2012 running on a 2.9GHz Intel Core i5 with 8GB of RAM.
Over the past 4 months the computer randomly shuts off with no warning. The only way to power it back up is to reset the SMC, but then it will eventually shut off again.
I have tried:
-changing plugs
-changing power strips
--brought to Mac service desk where they said nothing is wrong with the machine
-replaced power cord
-checked temps
-increased fan speeds
-unplugging hardware
-restoring to factory settings
None of this was worked. It still continues to shut down seemingly at random. It shuts down when I'm actively using it, when it is on but idle, and when it is in sleep mode. It shuts down at random times of the day, it's happened in the morning, afternoon, evening and middle of the night.
I am running the most recent version of Mavericks.
I have read through many threads on similar topic but nothing I've seen so far works.
Can anyone help or does anyone have any suggestions on what to do?
This is really frustrating and making it very difficult to finish projects.

Looked into the kernal panic and not sure if that's what is happening. There is no "restart screen". And no other options when the computer eventually is re-booted. The computer shuts off without any warning, and when you reboot it behaves as it would if there was an unexpected power outage.
Is there anything in the console that would indicate kernal panic?

Is there anyway to test the RAM to see if that is the problem before it is replaced?
As I stated in the OP, the computer has already been to Mac Support and they said all was well with the machine, would they have tested the RAM?

Hy, I have in my company CS5 Suite and we are planning to upgrade only Flash Builder from 4 to 4.5. Would it be still compatible with other CS5 tools, e.g. with Flash Profetional 5?
