PowerBook Screen in Reverse Negative

A family member left her computer on and walked away from the machine. When she came back, someone else in the house had tampered with it. She could tell because the capslock was on, which she never uses.
Also, when she returned to the computer, the screen had gone to negative colors (meaning: all black was white, and all white was black). Not only were the colors reversed, but the colors were in grey scale. I (not to brag) have been a tech for both apple and pc products for the last five years. I tried everything I could think of from reseting properties here and there. Nothing fixes this (pending a system restore). The owner of the machine is working hard on a project and does not want to reinstall the OS or any other applications without trying everything first.
Can someone point me to some helpful resources to fix this.

infinite wisdom!
I wouldn't call it that. There's plenty of Mac info that I don't have a clue about, but thank you for the compliment.
I've actually known about the feature for a long time - because I use the zoom feature and also set up Macs for 'silver surfer' clients (they seem to find the Universal Access features very helpful).
As for the shortcut, well it is documented alongside the settings as well as in this Apple article and OS X's Help system.

Upgraded to Mavericks now iTunes screen is a negative. Background is black and titles etc. are white. How do I reverse it?

    Hello Tarpon471,
It sounds like your desktop is otherwise colored normally, but the colors in iTunes are inverted. I was thinking it is possible that a 3rd party plugin may be causing an issue with iTunes since the upgrade to Mavericks.

My screen image is negative. I don't know how it happened. How can I change it back to normal?

  • JPG files show up as REVERSED (negative) in Mail

When attaching a JPG file to a Mail message, it sometimes shows up in Mail, on my screen --- as a reverse, negative picture.
I always save photos in Photoshop (CS2) as TIF files. This happens ONLY when I did a SAVE AS and saved the photo as JPG. When I do a SAVE FOR WEB it's saved as JPG (but at 72 dpi), and that JPG will show up normal on my screen when attached in Mail.
Back in PS both JPG files will open normal. So it seems like Mail is not fond of JPGs saved in PS. In either cases, the recipient also receives the photo OK, nothing shows up in reverse.
This has been going on for a while now.....

    *_B I N G O !_*
Yes, it was a CMYK photo.... I loaded it to my Mail window, it looked reversed. I opened it in PS, changed the image mode to RGB, resaved it, loaded it again to my Mail window, now it shows OK....
    Thanks, RandyMM! Problem solved indeed....

I have no idea how I did this on my new ipad 2 but everything on my screen is in negative view. How do I switch it back to positive or for me , normal view?
    Thanks, joney

Yes, you probably have the tripple-click Home button option off.
Just visit the Accessibility pane under General settings (as described by King_Penguin above) and choose to assign what you need for your tripple click command, in this case toggling the black & white option.
You can also tell it to 'ask' you what you want from that command each time.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod Touch 54 3g - Screen went into negative mode

My screen went into negative mode tonight. White background, all the colors are inverted. Its like looking at a negative for a film camera. Tried powering it down, it restarts, then switches into negative mode.
    Any ideas?

    Roaming:
I got to work today, and tested your theory. I sync this with my work PC since I am almost always here LOL. Sure enough, I can set the accessibility option to use the white screen and the **** thing inverts the colors.
What I cannot figure out is how this got implemented. I was laying on the couch watching TV, and had just closed an email message. Next thing I know, the screen is on an acid trip.
It sure doesn't seem like a great option for those users who have poor eyesight. You are almost punished for using this setting. Photos aren't viewable and forget videos. Why not just give people the option of a background color?
Thanks for your quick response and correct diagnosis.

    Hi there,
There may be an accessibility feature enabled to invert the colors. The article below goes over how to disable this feature.

  • Powerbook Screen and alluminum case problem

I think my Powerbook is defected.. My screen has these clusters of white dots on the screen, and the case has a dent in it. I have always kept my powerbook in a soft case, and kept the soft case in the hard case. What should I do to fix this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Chrispy.
It sounds like your PowerBook screen is suffering from 'white spots' (which afflicted some 15" PBs, including mine). Contact Apple. If your PB is still under warranty then they should replace it.
As for the dent, do you know how that came about? If that was caused by an accident or yourself then Apple will not repair it.

  • Flickering Powerbook Screen then goes completely black

My powerbook screen has started flickering and then goes black. I can still see faint images on the screen, so it has not died. When it does go black I can get it to come back on by holding the the screen dimmer button down and then taking the brightness back up. The same thing will happen almost instantly. Any ideas?

Hi, I had exactly the same problem. It lasted over a year, when I positioned the display horizontally it worked fine or when I placed a laptop against a wall or something that would very lightly push the screen from the back (even a finger touch). Sometimes the display found its good position and could stay without any support for few days. So it didn't make me go repair it immediately and I kind of got used to it. Until last week when it flickered for the last time, stayed black a no pushing or no dim button would help and made me overcome my laziness to drive to Apple center. It cost me 500 shekels in israel to repair, it's around 150 USD. The repair report says that board inverter was exchanged.

is my ip4 having problem? i never jb

No, it is a design feature for people with visual impairments.  Press home button 3 times again and it will be switched off.. If you do not want these options you can turn them off in the Accessibility section of Settings.

  • Why does my powerbook screen go negative, then rain pixels

So this has been happening for a bit now. My room mate turns on his computer and the screen is fine. After about 15 miuntes the screen image basically goes negative for a minute or so. After that little pixels begin to rain down until the entire screen is pixelated.
When it is pixelated I can use an external monitor to view my desktop perfectly, which eliminates the graphics card as the issue in my opinion.
Has anyone ran into this issue before, or know someone who has?
I feel as though he may have himself a very portable desktop now.

Boot in safe mode and try to recreate the issue and report here.

  • Can I substitute an external display in place of broken powerbook screen?

Water was spilled on my powerbook titanium and now the backlight doesn't work. This is fairly expensive to replace, but the computer appears to be working fine (from what I can tell using the dimly light display).
Instead of replacing my screen which would be costly can I just use my powerbook as a desktop and attach it to the external display? Without seeing whats on the screen can I setup my computer to use the external display as the main output (mirroring)? I fear I might not be able to do this without the GUI provided by the screen.
    Anyone ever done this?
    Thanks.
    Powerbook G4 Titanium 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, you should be able to do this no problem. You don't need the GUI. Just close the lid on the TiBook, attach and external monitor and then use and external USB keyboard or mouse to wake the system. Leave the lid closed at all times. And leave the AC adapter attached. Should work fine.

  • Macbook Pro Screen (Matte) Vs. PowerBook Screen

    Hello,
I'm looking at the beautiful screen on an old, newly revived 15-inch PowerBook G4 DVI (667 MHz) right now and I'm wondering. . . does the new MacBook Pro's screen (the matte version) look as good? I've heard about screen issues, but I'm just wondering if the screen looks as good as this old one.
Right now I'm used to a 12-inch PowerBook G4 screen, which I believe is basically an iBook screen. Just to give you a baseline.
    Thanks!
    -Dustin

    Dustin,
I have the 17" MBP, and I compare its screen to the
17" Powerbook that I had before it.
To my eyes, the MBP screen is far superior. Side by
side, the comparison reveals that the MBP screen, in
addition to being much brighter, provides better
colors; truer whites, and more saturation overall.
I have no "graininess" issues. Yes, I can see a
slight grain in the anti-glare coating incorporated
into the screen, but I never notice this when I am
using it. I would guess that this is what people
complain about when they mention grain. However, I
don't believe it impacts the actual image that is
being displayed. Also, my viewing angles are about
what I had with my Powerbook.
    Scott
The 17MBP has almost no grain. IT's the 15" that has all the graininess. The 17MB only suffers from uneven backlighting - at least the 09c62 models...\
I would love to have a 15" again (i have a 17 now), but I just can't live with that screen.

  • Saving images from the screen in colour negative?

Is there any way to do a print screen of a portion of my screen when it is in colour negative, and keeping the image in colour negative? It always reverts back to normal when I try it.

So I think if you just want to modify the colour of your screen shots then open the picture that was taken and go to:
    Tools/ adjust colour
then modify your picture any way you like it and save...
