PowerBook shuts down when iPhone is connected

I just got an iPhone S 3.0.1, and noticed that whenever I connect it to my 15" PowerBook 10.4.11, it will shut down.
So far, the computer stays on if I'm using it, but if I leave it inactive for about 5-10 minutes, it completely shuts down.
When I go to restart it, it takes a bit longer than usual to have anything come up on the screen.
Any thoughts?

OK, that's a little different - it sounded like the computer would shut down immediately upon connecting the iPhone.
I have no great answer. I use the Touch myself. Try posting to the iPhone forum, too.
In case it helps someone, does this happen whether the power cable is attached or not? What timeout do you have set for the Mac to sleep ordinarily? Got an Apple Store nearby?

  • ITunes shuts down when iPhone is connected.

I can open my iTunes and listen to music, browse the store, everything. As soon as I connect my iPhone I get a message saying iTunes has stopped working and the program closes. There is some DEP warning coming up from Windows (vista 64bit), I can not figure out how to solve the problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programs, reset the computer, reset the phone...I am out of ideas.

You might want to take a look at this Apple article and completely remove iTunes and associated files completely and reinstall it. See if that helps.

After removing and reinstalling iTunes, reboot the computer and reattch the iPhone.

  • Powerbook Shuts Down When Unplugged

My Powerbook shuts down when I unplug my notebook. It won't power back on unless I plug it back in. The battery is brand new from Apple (part of the battery replacement program) It first happened a month ago while using the notebook on battery for 20 minutes, it shut off. I was able to power it back on with the batttery but HAD TO RESET THE CLOCK and the iWeb document I had opened wasn't saved.
Now, when I unplug the notebook, it shuts off and won't power back on unless plugged back in and I still have to reset the clock.
Even though the battery is somewhat new, I'm confused because the notebook has to have the battery reset when the notebook turns off when removed from the power adapter.
    Any answers?

try running it with the battery removed completely.
if it runs ok, could be bad battery.
if possible, try your battery on another machine and different battery on your machine.
if different battery does not work on your machine, it could be hardware problem with PowerBook.

  • Laptop shuts down when trying to connect

Bought a WRT110, installed software, and everytime the router and the wi-fi on my laptop are turned on, the laptop shuts down and restarts.  Anybody have this problem before?

I have the same problem. I just installed a new WRT160N on the desktop but my Toshiba M35x-S311 shuts down when I switch on the wireless connection. What's going on?

  • Internet wireless connection shuts down when iPhone in USB port

Hi. I bought a new iPhone 3G 2 days ago. Whenever I plug it into my PC USB port to sync, my internet wireless connection shuts down (a dongle is plugged into another USB port). Have you heard of this happening before? Is it likely to be the iPhone, the new version of iTunes or the PC causing the problem? Many thanks for your assistance.

    Your welcome.
A USB memory pen does not draw any power - as does the iPhone.
Apple recommends connecting the iPhone direct to a USB 2.0 port on your computer - not to a USB hub if there is one available.
Do you know if this computer has USB 1.1 or 2.0 ports? If the former, USB 1.1 is not supported.
My PowerBook is approaching 4 years old and still going strong - running Apple's current operating system, but Snow Leopard will be comptible with Intel Macs only, so I'm reaching the end of the line OS version wise with my 4 year old Mac. I don't know many 4 year old PCs running Vista. My Mac has USB 2.0, and I regularly charge other USB devices while my iPhone is connected and while syncing - no problem.

  • Powerbook shuts down when power adaptor isn't plugged

I bought my powerbook G4 about 3 years ago and I've been having alot of problem with it in the past few months (yeah I know it's old lol).
When I first got it my friend told me not to use the battery while I'm working with the laptop, instead use the power adapter by removing the battery from the laptop and use the adapter instead. I tried to do that, and it didn't work.
Even now when I tried to remove the battery and just use the adapter, it's just doesn't want to start up.
I also got this problem whenever I'm using my laptop I always have to have the adapter plugged in or else it will shut down without any warning.
I checked the battery level with the button on the battery cover, it's always on 100% charged. BUT it won't turn up unless I plug the adapter in back.
I can't afford a new macbook pro so yeah =(
    thank you!

There is another battery involved: the backup battery or PRAM battery. It resides to the right and under the optical drive (see image from iFixit.com guide) and remembers startup configurations when there is no AC or main battery power connected.
My PB's backup battery is dead and, If I let the main battery run down, I have to reset the computer to get a valid restart even after reattaching the AC power adaptor. If the backup battery is dead, then what little life is left in your main battery will be doing the work to hold the system parameters when you are off AC power.
The backup battery looks like this:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Parts/images/products/155/155035s.jpg
It's a difficult install unless you are familiar with the inner workings of the Powerbook and how to get to them. It's also hard to find these that are new. And who wants a "Used" battery.

I had this problem for several months and recently solved it.
You will need to download the following complete software and install it:
AcerOrbicam (logitech).zip must be version 10.4.0.1319
make sure to disable any antivirus program before the installation.
make sure to unplug your network connection to avoid any virus attack whenever you disable your antivirus software. restart after installation. takes 4 steps.
windows xp, running latest itunes 9.2. plug iphone after restart. it should work!!

  • ITunes shutting down when iPod is connected...

I am having trouble getting my installation of iTunes to recognize that there is an iPod connected. My 5th Gen iPod Video can be connected to Windows no problem, I am able to access it as a disk drive, etc, get all the drivers for Windows to install, etc...however, when I start iTunes, the problem excperiences an unexpected error and is needed to shut down immediately.
iTunes is able to start, error free when my iPod is not connected via the USB port - only happens when an iPod is connected during iTunes' start up and when one is connected after iTunes has been started.
Any ideas as to how this can be solved?
AMD Desktop PC   Windows XP Pro

With a call to a friend of the family who deals with Apple related troubleshooting, was able to Hard Format the iPod as a FAT32 disk drive and have iTunes recognize it in "recovery mode", allowing me to start iTunes and repair the disk.

  • Powerbook shuts down when running on battery

I got this problem only lately int these lasts months... my powerbook g4 15" is almost 3 years old.
I first noticed that the battery endurance is more and more reducing...it lasts more or less 20 minutes from when I unplug it form the power-net.
And that's only "the bright side" of the problem: because more and more often I'm getting the powerbook (always when it is running on battery alone) shutting down without any warning with battery indicator still full...
that's really wired.. it is really running me mad...
I found some other topic on the forum... but none of them helped me getting the clue on what's happening to my powerbook
do you think that doing a reset to the battery will sort things out?
thanks you very much in advance I hope someone can help me...
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Sadly I think the last coment is right. After so many charges (500-1,000) the battery dies. I had the exact same thing happen to another brand of laptop when its battery died. Replaced it and it works great again. Sorry to say but rechargable batteries don't last forever.

  • ITunes shuts down when ipod is connected....

Ever since I did the last update, everytime I connect my ipod to synch with itunes...itunes automatically shuts down!! I can use itunes just fine by itself and the same for the ipod. But once I connect them itunes just shuts down...no error message, nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this??

This has started happening to me in the past week since i uploaded the latest Apple install on vista.

This is typical of Apple.....until hundred of complaints are registered they never get off their F~~~~ing arses and solve the problems

  • BlackBerry Z!0 continues to shut down when trying to connect with Wi fi

After couple of hours back and forth with Verizon and Blackberry the conclusion came that it was a software issue with the phone. My husband and I both have the Z10's. My phone connects with Wi fi no problem along with our other electronics in the house. His however, shuts down as soon as he tries to connect. We were told by Verizon that we could send the phone back and they would replace with a REFURB and also resign a 2 year contract. This is not going to happen. We would like a new phone or a way to fix the problem. But I'm assuming with the 2hrs he was on the phone didn't fix it. Anyone have the same problem with an EXACTfix? Remember, we spent an hour or more on the phone with Blackberry so we have done all the commen sense tech suggestions.
    Thanks for your help,
    Frustrated

What, exactly, are all the "common sense" tech suggestions? Did you do a security wipe on the device? Did you reload the operating system software?
To be honest, it sounds like a hardware problem on that particular device but knowing what you've already done will help determine the cause.

  • Computer automatically shut down when Nano is connected

Whenever I connect my iPod Nano 4gb to my computer, my computer automatically shuts down. Just like that. Without any warning. Sometimes iTunes has the time to open, but most of the time it doesn't. Can someone please tell me what must I do? My nano has been working well for the past year.

  • Computer Shuts Down When iPod Is Connected

Every time I plug my iPod into my PC, the computer shuts down within 30 seconds. I have updated iTunes and that didn't work. Has anyone had this problem and/or how can I fix it so I can load new music into my iPod?

    Hey KSPinStripe,
First we'll gather more information about the computer. Disconnect all USB devices other than the keyboard an mouse. Open iTunes> Help> Run Diagnostics> iPod Diagnostics> Next, then copy and paste the results here.
Plug the iPod directly into the computer(the front or back of the computer not a hub, keyboard, or moniter.) Does it still power off? Does the computer show any error messages?
