working on internet when get a warning I am going to experience a "ppp disconnct"..
it does..
PB shuts down.. will not start...
no sounds... no light .. does not affect any change
took out battery and let it sit for couple of hours
re-installed and still nothing at all...

Do you see a half moon icon in the upper right corner of the screen? If so, you have Do Not Disturb enabled. Settings>Do Not Disturb. Turn it off.
Or do you have system sounds muted?
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center. Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

Did you purchase your iPod Touch second hand or direclty from the Apple Store? I would recommend that you go back to the Apple Store and show them both devices in action so that they can advise you closely.

I have an Apple Powerbook G4, and my monitor doesn't function. I have an external display Monitor, however it's stuck in extended screen mode. How do I get it to mirror or duplicate the display without use of the on-board?

The PowerBooks have an F-key that toggles mirrored and extended mode. My PB is loaned out right now but I think it was f7. The keycap has an icon on two overlapping rectangles, as I recall.

Superdrives are available from a number of different vendors, both internal and external models.
The titanium was the previous model PB. The last release of it was on November 6, 2002.

You aren't attached to a bluetooth headset or other device for some strange reason? Or even an automobile bluetooth, I have a friend that has this issue with his Prius because even when it is not running the bluetooth is still active and connects to his phone.

PowerBook G4 and iMac G4

I have a PowerBook G4 and an iMac G4. They are both about 3 1/2 years old. The PowerBook is running 10.4.3 and the iMac is running 10.1.5
I am wanting to use the PowerBook as my main computer and use the iMac similar to an external monitor and an external hard drive space. I've asked around but no one seems to know the answer. I was thinking I'd just use a firewire but that doesn't seem to give me what I want I don't think. I want to use my PowerBook as a portable, and then attach it to my iMac when I get home so I can use the bigger screen and have some extral space for things I don't need on my PowerBook.
Any ideas how to do this? Anything would be a help. Thanks.

The iMac can't be used as an external monitor. It doesn't have any video input capabilities.
When you say was thinking I'd just use a firewire, I assume you mean Target Disk Mode, so you may have already exhausted your options. Here they are anyway:
The nearest thing you could do to what you want is use your PowerBook as a portable and then attach it to the iMac in target disk mode, so the PowerBook becomes a disk on the iMac. That way you'll have access to all your files, and get to use the iMac's bigger screen. You'll be using the iMac's processor and RAM, and as you don't say what model or configuration you have, I'm not sure how it would compare to the performance of your PowerBook. But I assume since they are both 3.5 years old that the iMac is faster than the PowerBook.
You say that you iMac is running 10.1.5. I think you'd want to update that to 10.4 if you were going to run this configuration.
The other option is to run the iMac in TDM on the PowerBook. This way you'll have access to 10.4 without upgrading the iMac, access to all your files on both HDs, but not the advantage of the iMac's screen or possible speed advantage.
One other option would be to sell the iMac and buy an external monitor (17" or 19" LCDs can be found reasonably priced) and FireWire hard drive to replace it. This would give you an ideal setup - provided you could live without the standalone iMac

The Mac sets up the brightness automatically. Go to System Preferences > Display and deactivate Automatically adjust brightness

Share external hard drive between PowerBook (PPC) and MacBook (Intel)?

Hello.
I recently purchased an HP Portable USB 3.0/2.0 1TB external hard drive (http://j.mp/f9FP4M). I'm trying to figure out the best way to format it so that my girlfriend and I can both use it. Problem is, I have a PPC-based PowerBook G4, and she has an Intel-based MacBook. Hopeless?
If not, here is the ideal scenario:
--One partition that can boot Tiger (I still have the CD).
--A second partition that can boot Snow Leopard (just got it for my girlfriend).
--A third partition where my girlfriend can back up her MacBook using Time Machine.
--A fourth partition where I can back up my PowerBook using whatever means possible/necessary.
Can someone please suggest how I might do this? I would be very grateful for any assistance.
If any part of my ideal scenario has to be sacrificed -- I would not be at all surprised -- then let's forget about my PowerBook and focus on how to format the drive for her MacBook. I presume I would just need to do GUID, but I'd still need guidance on how to create partitions to boot Snow Leopard (and Tiger, if that would still be possible).
Happy to clarify any of the above if it's unclear or incomplete. Thanks for reading and for thinking this through with me!

Firewire between PowerBook G4 and MacBook

I'm trying to connect my PowerBook G4 and MacBook via firewire. The MacBook is acting as the external hard drive.
The PowerBook G4 was turned on, I connected the firewire to both computer and then booted the MacBook holding down T. The firewire icon is floating on the MacBook, but the hard drive isn't showing up on the PowerBook G4 desktop. I restarted the PowerBook G4 while they were both still connected, but still nothing. Does this mean my MacBook hard drive isn't work?

The cable works fine, tried it between the PowerBook G4 and an external hard drive.
The MacBook does not boot. It turns on to a blank white screen and stays there. It won't boot into safe mode or single user mode or anything like that.
Yes, I do have the install discs and put them in to try and reinstall Leopard. They boot, but the hard drive won't show when it asks me where to install. I hear there's a bug with the hard drive not appearing there and waited up to an hour on that screen, but that didn't make it show either. Then I went into Disk Utility, but the hard drive wouldn't show there either. At some point it did, but I couldn't run a repair on it. Then I restarted with the installation disc in again and then it wouldn't show at all.

I think the Wallstreet would be just fine for your intended purposes with just more RAM. You probably have a 32MB in the bottom slot (on the underside of the microprocessor card) and a 64MB in the top slot. You can buy a 256MB module for $29, remove the top 64MB and replace with a 256MB; you would then have a total 288MB. If you bought a 128MB and installed as above, you would only have 160MB. If you follow this strategy, you do not have to remove the microprocessor card, and it is very easy to replace the top module.

If you buy a 256MB module, both the Lombard and Wallstreet require a special architecture on the memory chip; generic 256's will not work.

I need to find a quick and easy download PPC application for someone on this forum who is having problems in Snow Leopard and I want to rule out that it is PPC that is the problem. I had suggested he download Appleworks for this purpose; ooooops!

I am almost positive that the problem is that his game was released in 2003 when OS X was 10.2.x and it just will NOT function in Snow Leopard without some patch or upgrade.
I am getting my hands on a copy of this game tomorrow, so I will go down that path for him, too!

Alternating light and dark blue screen on trying to start up

Today, on trying to restart after an Intego VirusBarrier update, I got stuck with just a blank blue screen alternating light and dark. I still can't restart on my internal drive, but after starting up from the install disc have managed to restart from a cloned OS 10.5.5 on my external drive. When I try to restart from the internal drive I just get the alternating shades of blue screen and nothing else - no error message, no question mark, just the pulsating blue screen - HELP!!!!

Thanks but that wasn't it. I replaced the battery and reset the PMU, still no luck. I've tried hooking up an external monitor still nothing, in doing all of this the person helping and I noticed that when you push the button on front to power up it doesn't light but I'm also not getting a start up chime, only the click of the hard drive then in pushing the button to power it off the light will blink and I think it is shutting down. Any other suggestions.

Light and dark solid grey vertical lines appear randomly on screen

This has happened about 4 times in the last couple of months, when these light and dark solid grey lines appear on my screen, I have to turn my computer off by holding down the power button and rebooting it, it fixes the problem for the time being. These lines appear randomly, they have appeared when using Photoshop CS6, also when just using the internet, listening to Pandora. 1 out of the 4 times these lines appeared, there was a ticking/clicking noise... I took it to the local computer shop and they did tests on it twice and found nothing.

Run Apple Hardware Test in extended mode a minimum of 3x back to back. If errors appear this confirms a hardware issue that can only be fixed by taking the machine in for repair.
