Powerbook turns off when I unplugged the Power Adapter
I month or so ago I noticed that when I unplug my power adapter it turns off instead of running off the battery. I've tried resetting the PMU but I didn't work. Does anyone have any advice or does anyone know what could be the problem.
I am experiencing a similar problem to Blaise. I have owned my 15-inch Dual-Layer SuperDrive for a total of 4 days. Last night I went to move my computer from the living room (where it was plugged into the wall for approx. 5hrs) to my bedroom. So I simply pulled out the power cable and the screen went blank. At first I thought it went to sleep (which was weird even if that was true), but then I tried to wake it up. Nothing worked. So I moved it into the bedroom, plugged it in, then I basically had to power it up as if it was off. Although, since it is the new PowerBook it was still able to write the contents of RAM to the hard drive (which is a really cool new feature). So the dimmed screen had the progress bar on the bottom as the previous settings were loaded.
Anyway, my long story aside. The battery level monitor in the menu bar, now says 0%, when I unplugged it, it said 99%. The green indicators on the battery itself all light up as if it is fully charged. I also looked in system profiler, where it says the capacity is 0mAh and the total charge is 0mAh. Then I ran apple hardware test, where it told me that no battery was present but it was still able to say it experienced "10 cycles".
I have tried to reset the PMU and the PRAM, no help. I've restarted to see if it would luckily rerecognize it. But nothing has worked.
I will be venturing to the Apple Store this afternoon. I hope it is an easy fix, i.e. just a new battery. Basically the current condition of my computer, is that I need to be plugged in to use it at all.
It must be reiterated that this is a brand new machine. And the battery capacity just hours before this incident was 3639mAh (I've been checking it periodically since I got the machine to see how the battery was doing on the first couple of cycles). And it had only experienced 10 charge-drain cycles.
If anyone has any ideas to fix this, I would greatly appreciate the help.

My laptop turns off when i remove the power cord
I have a Pavilion dv7-6c27cl running windows 7 (64 bit). Everytime I remove my laptop from the power cord, it shuts down immdiently. The battery says that it is at 77% and charging. I don't know what wrong at all. The light on the side is orange. Ideas on what's wrong and how to fix it?
It has to be a battery problem....I am getting that it just sits at 77% and never goes higher or lower? If you are still in warranty, the battery is covered (up to 1 year, I think), and if not you need to buy yourself a new battery. If by some chance you could try another known good battery that would be helpful but that seems unlikely.

Probably because you do not have the headphones plugged all the way in. Make sure the plastic on the headphone jack is flush with the body of the Nano.
Incidentally, you are not running iOS 1.x -

MPB Powers OFF when I connect the power cord
Just got a new MBP this weekend. When I connect the power cord after the battery gets low, the computer instantly shuts off. No warning, just shuts off. The battery can be at any charge level, and this will happen. Pull the power cord off, no problem. Put it back on, the computer is off. I have to restart, unsaved changes lost. This is my second MBP, and the first one never did this. I am about to drag it in to the Genius bar, but has this happened to anyone else? Sounds like a bad hardware issue to me. Could it be a settings issue? I've only been using it for about three days. Thanks in advance.

You might try resetting the SMC and see if this helps.

Powerbook turns off when power disconnected
I have a 3 week old Powerbook G4 (new model.)
Today its developed the problem where if you disconnect the mains
supply it completely turns off, even though the battery is charged.
When I plug it back in and turn it on I get the warning that my clock
needs resetting.
Obviously I will contact Apple support but thought I'd try on here
first incase its something easy to fix
Any help appreciated
PaulHi Paul --
I agree, a call to Apple support and perhaps a trip to your local Apple Store Genius bar or Apple Authorized Service provider would appear to be in order.
The only things I can think of for you to try in the interim is to reset your PB's Power Management Unit and your PRAM. Here's how
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449 ;
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238
I don't have much hope that these procedures will fix things, but it is likely that the support people will ask you to do them in any event as part of their troubleshooting procedures.
Good luck and post back what happens.

Powerbook turns off when pressing right corner.
I've been a tad (really) rough with my powerbook... The hard drive failed about a year ago so I just unbolted the thing and replaced the HD with something cheap and temp (the bracket doesn't even mount properly on the HD, so it's loose in the PB). When I put everything together, everything works
Months later.. The battery died... No biggy, I'll just keep it plugged in.... Days later I tripped on the power cord and it dropped 4 feet onto concrete... No biggy, it fell worse.... Turns out it was a biggy... :/
After that day, everytime I put a little pressure on right corner of my laptop (i.e. me resting my hand)... the laptop cuts off... but the screen stays on (black screen).
Any help?My first idea is that something is broken and/or loose in that area of the PowerBook. When you say the screen is on, but black, do you mean the backlight is still on?
Secondly, that area is precisely over the battery. I imagine it's a power-related issue — if not total power failure, an interruption to important areas. -
Hi
I recently downloaded the new Firefox (Firefox 4, I think - you can tell I'm very tech savvy!) and it constantly freezes, I can't do anything with it at all - I can't even close it from the icon in my Mac dock bar.
I have tried restarting my computer - though I have to turn it off by using the power button as as Firefox is open and totally unresponsive it won't let me shut down. About a minute after re-starting Firefox, restoring my tabs or starting afresh, it freezes again.
This is obviously very annoying and I'm not sure what I can do about it. Firefox is my preferred browser, and I'd really like to be able to use it again! This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
Firefox 18.4%
Activity Monitor 0.9%
Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6. -
My MacBook Pro screen turns off when I open the lid!
This has been driving me nuts, and also apparently Apple as well.
When my MacBook Pro is connected to a power adapter, if I close the lid it sleeps like a good little Mac. When I open the lid, the display comes on instantly. Then after about a second, it goes black. The LED backlight turns off. I can get it to come on using either of two ways: 1) touch either of the brightness buttons, or 2) remove and replace the power connector.
Now, here is the weird part: it only seems to do it when I am logged in as me. If I login as guest, it doesn't happen. That would seem to imply it is something about my profile that causes it to happen. So I whacked ~/Library/Preferences and it still happened. So where is this particular bit of nastiness hiding?OK, so I think I solved my issue. It was caused by the system not going to sleep (The screensaver thing was a dead end).
When I ran the console app pmset, I got something like this:
➜ ~ pmset -g assertions
12-06-29 9:11:06 AM EDT
Assertion status system-wide:
PreventUserIdleDisplaySleep 0
CPUBoundAssertion 0
DisableInflow 0
ChargeInhibit 0
PreventSystemSleep 1
PreventUserIdleSystemSleep 0
ExternalMedia 0
DisableLowPowerBatteryWarnings 0
EnableIdleSleep 1
NoRealPowerSources_debug 0
UserIsActive 0
ApplePushServiceTask 0
The process that was causing PreventSystemSleep to be 1 was "org.cups.cupsd" which is the print service. So I checked all my printers, one of them was "In Use". When I opened it, there weren't any jobs listed. I went through the options and selected Jobs > Show Everyone's Jobs and sure enough there was a job there. I deleted it and everything seems to work now.
The odd thing is that print job was probably from my other account which didn't seem to have this screen problem. Anyway, I hope this helps anyone out there.... -

It sounds like you may not have the power cord pushed in tightly enough
