Powerbook will not charge

I have a PowerBook G4 that's about 1.5 years old now. About 8 months ago the power adapter stopped charging my PowerBook, however, when plugged in it kept my PowerBook at the same battery percentage. I went out and bought a new adapter made by "Targus." It's worked fine up until about a week ago. Now it's doing the same thing thing and only keeping my battery at the same percentage. I updated the battery and checked the charger and reset the power thing. None of it has worked. Now my PowerBooks battery is @ 9% and won't charge. I the pwer goes out or something, it will die and since it doesn't charge, will no longer work (i'm assuming). Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas on how to fix this? My 1 yr warranty is up so how much will it cost to have it fixed.

My wife bought me a new powerbook for christmas and I got it Jan 3rd 06.
Take it out of the box and set it up. Battery doesn't charge! won't Charge and apparently is a placebo! 2000.00 dollars, and counting. Imagine buying a new car without a battery under the hood! What the is going on??? I Go down to the apple retail store and they have NO 15" power books and no batteries because this is a big problem. They have been authorized to just swap out the computer, and or swap the battery. They are out of both till who knows when, (7 to 10 days ).! On the eve of the MAC WORLD CONFRENCE I am feeling sick about the whole IDEA that these power books were all sent out like this Apple should get them back before they are sent to consumers!! Apple and the reputation they have of being HIGH qaulity and RELIABLE is in trouble. How many class action law suites, POOR MERCHANDISE, ( I SENT BACK A NANO- CRACKED SCREEN and A PHOTO ipod that was purchased last Christmas- 400.00 dollar and a bum battery) Lets not forget the original ipod
LAW SUITE AND ALL, I had one sorry to admit. Qaulity is going down with Qaunity. I'm afraid to see what happens with the NEW intel Computers. It could just get worse. I just wanted to go wireless and I don't have a battery to
do that. So as I watch the mac confrence on my new 2000.00doller computer and am tethered to an Electical out let while getting stream from my new base station, I will certainly be thinking about how APPLE claims their stuff ALWAYS works better than a widows machine.... or does it really?

I have a 15" Powerbook 1.5 w/ a 1.5Ghz processor. I just bought a brand new battery and it will not charge. here are the facts:
    - when i purchased the new battery and installed it, it had a 23% charge.
    - the battery will not charge, after a week the battery is down to 19%( I keep it pluged in all the time cause I do not want it to completely drain)
    - I have reset the power manager unit
    - I have past the hardware system test( the hardeware test disc that comes with the computer)
    - here is the technical info taken from the System profiler:

    - I love Apple but they are really getting on my nerves, I have had top send back 2 ipods(one they actually had the balls to charge me for shipping) because of battery issues( the battery would only hold a charge for 20 minutes)
MESSAGE TO APPLE!!! either lower you price or build your products in the USA so we can get quality product. Having to send a computer to you for repair is not the answer, you owe your users more than that for the price you charge.

  • My Powerbook will not power up, but I can hear the fan running...

Please help!! My Powerbook will not power up, but I can hear the fan running when I press the power button to attempt to power it up. I just received a new power adapter because it wasn't working properly and it was doing this before and then it worked for a week and now it will not power up at all. It just starts the fan but nothing else turns on. When I plug the adapter, with the battery still connected, it will look as if it is charging but then the light on the plug turns from green to orange then off and doesn't power up at all. If I take the battery out and plug in the adapter, the light stays on but it does not power up except for the fan noise. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also followed the two articles listed online in regards to resetting the power setting and the command + alt + P + R as well. Nothing works. Thanks in advance.....

Same here. If I start up with the power adapter attached, it starts up fine. If I try to start up from battery only, the fan comes on, the sleep light comes on but nothing else happens. I tried letting it sit that way for about 15 minutes and nothing changed. I tried attaching the power cord while in this mode and nothing changed. I tried the PMU reset a couple of times but nothing helps.
This computer is just over 1 year old and I have not had any problems with the power cord (3rd party), the battery, or any problem like this before. It started after a proper shutdown last night and attempt to start without the power cord this afternoon.
Any answers to this yet? I think I'll call on this and report any success to this discussion.

  • Machine will not charge batterys

As my Macbook Pro is in for service I had to dust of my old Powerbook G4 Alu. But after a long sleep it will not charge any of the 2 batteries I have.
The strange thing is that during the first 10-15 minutes when I start the computer, The battery is recognized and saying 0% charged. But then the battery is not recognized any more, ( Same with both batteries). Even more strange is the info. from the system log.
    *Battery Information:*
    *Charge Information:*
    *Charge remaining (mAh): 0*
    *Charging: No*
    *Full charge capacity (mAh): 10000*
    *Health Information:*
    *Cycle count: 0*
    *Condition: Good*
    *Battery Installed: Yes*
    *Amperage (mA): 0*
    *Voltage (mV): 0*
So it looks like to me as it would be the computer that don't want to charge the batteries, even though they are ok. (Just a guess) iStat Pro Also say the the "Health" is 100%
    Anybody?

Well I believe you to a certain point. But I don't agree that it's the battery itself that's "dead". It's more likely that the chipset in the battery is playing dead or something else with the actual charging process. Most certain it's not fixable, but I think the battery cells could be recharged if the chipset was ok.

  • Battery will not charge. and other issues

Well i'm working on a friend of mines notebook, its a n100 model 0768 12u running windows xp. This is the situation so far. First his hard drive had fried so i replaced that and put the o.s. back on it,but now the battery will not charge. also the wireless network card and dvd drive did not work. I had originally thought that they might have fried as well when the hard drive went down. However I looked through the forums here and found that alot of people solved the battery issue simply by replacing the battery i recommended that. He purchased a replacement battery ( not a genuine lenovo battery, don't know if that makes a difference) and when i put it in the dvd drive and the network card started working no problem. But alas the battery still would not charge. the system runs fine without a battery in it, but if i put the battery in it while its running it turns itself off after about 30 seconds of having the battery in. when the system is powered off and i put the battery in the battery lcd in front blinks 5 times orange then nothing for about 30 seconds then 5 more times. maybe thats a trouble code, don't know, looked all oover the forums and couldn't find anything quite like it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
     thanks
    Steve

    Duck3,
Glad that worked for you!  Thanks for sharing here.
I saw a weird situation on friend's ThinkPad recently - a replacement battery arrived with a 37% charge (not 100% deliberately as somewhere around 40% is the best for shelf life), but it would not accept a charge.   We did a reset by removing the battery & AC and pressing and holding the power button a number of times  (some people say 10 times, some two or three times for a count of 5 or 10).   This drains residual capacitance.
We plugged back in the battery and AC and it began to charge.
Might be worth a try here before he opens it up ....

  • Palm Pre crazy symptoms: "phone offline", will not charge battery, will not start, error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved"

This is a long description of a series of problems with my new Palm Pre. You may wish to search the text to find your specific issue(s). There is no solution in my post. Look for possible answers in the responses to come.
I bought my Palm Pre 4 days ago and it arrived 2 days ago. Phone worked great. Last night I plugged in the phone and updated the OS. After completion, I selected "Done" and went to bed.
    - First Series of Issues: "Phone Offline", will not charge battery -
In upper lefthand corner of the phone there is the message "phone offline". Although the phone has been charging all night it reads "26% battery". I called the general Sprint tech support number and we tried the following things:
    1) Restart phone (press and hold power button, then select "turn off". after power down, press and hold power button to power on.)
    2) Reset the phone (several different ways - call tech support so that you do this correctly)
The individual at Sprint then sent me to another tech support person, presumably 2nd tier.
    - Second Series of Issues: Error message "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" -
Sprint tech support person #2 also had me restart and reset the phone in a number of ways. In her words "we've tried every palm pre trick I know" and each time the phone was unresponsive. Often we received the error message "phone is offline". We did a full erase and after that the phone would no longer restart. At this point the error message came up saying "an error has occured that cannot be resolved" which referred me to www.palm.com for assistance. I think it's important to note here that this was not the typical error message (black screen with white letters) but rather the blue sky background with a semitransparent box over it with white text.
Sprint tech support person #2 then connected me with Palm support and the dance continued. Again we tried a whole bunch of resetting and restarting and erasing options. Palm support instructed me to go to: www.palm.com/rom to download WebOS Doctor, which I did. I downloaded the file. While that was happening he had me hold the "volume up" button and plug the phone into the charger. This caused a USB symbol to appear on the phone. When the file was complete I received an error message that the file couldn't run. Palm tech support person seemed surprised. I mentioned that I was on a Mac and he said he couldn't help me. He then transferred me to another Palm support person who works with Mac users.
Palms tech support person #2 then informed me that I should have selected the "mac" download option on www.palm.com/rom. I verbally walked her through the whole series of webpages, telling her that it says that you need Windows (version whatever) or Mac (version whatever) but that at no time was there an option to download a different WebOS Doctor for different operating systems. After some more discussion she told me she would have to have someone call me back tomorrow.
    - Third Series of Issues: phone stuck on USB symbol -
So at the moment the phone is completely useless. Not fantastic. I booted up the mac in Windows 7 and downloaded WebOS Doc and received the same error. I also ran Windows Vista virtually and received the same error. Later this afternoon I'm heading into work to try the same thing on Windows XP.
In the meantime, I got onto this forum and located a thread that provided a direct link to the necessary file:
    palm.cdnetworks.net/staging/rom/webosdoctorp100ewwsprint.jar
After downloading that file, which I realized could totally be a virus, I was able to get WebOS Doc working on my computer. It required that I recharge the phone completely before beginning and now it's on the screen that says "Don't disconnect your phone" and the file is at 3% complete. Only... it's been at 3% complete for almost 30 minutes.
I am hoping that Palm will follow up with me tomorrow, but I'm leaving at 7am on a business trip and would love to have the thing working. Any suggestions are welcome, even if you can just tell me how to get the think disconnected safely before my flight tomorrow. I don't fancy getting through security with my phone wired to my laptop.
    Thanks.

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Our phone support is open every day Monday through Sunday, although there are different hours of operation for the weekend. If after a webOS Doctor reset you are still experiencing the same problems, I would likely recommend replacement, either in a local store for your carrier or through our technical support department.
There may be additional technical support offered or suggested over the phone, this would need to be done first before a replacement could be issued.
    Hope this helps,

  • My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable usin ghte same wall plug in the same wall socket?

My ipod will not charge from a wall socket but will charge using the same cable if the usb end is plugged into a computer or directly into an airport power source. My iphone and ipad charge fine on the same cable using the same wall plug in the same wall socket. This makes no sense but I see that it has been posted as a problem elsewhere. This must be due to some kind of degredation of the Ipod. . It is not fixed by IOS resets as others have noted.
Has anyone asked Apple directly about this?

    Hi there Apples or Pears,
I would recommend taking a look at the troubleshooting steps found in the articles below.

If you have all your music on the cmputer then i would connect up my phone uncheck the Sync Music option and apply.
This should take all the music off your phone .Then you can resync the music back on to it.
If this doesn't work maybe a restore to factory settings and start from scratch is the way to go

  • After trying to down ios 7, iPad will not charge, will not open and will not connect to itunes.  The only display I will get is the apple logo, or low battery warning.

After trying to download ios 7, iPad will not charge, will not open and will not connect to itunes.  Sometimes, screen will switch from Apple logo to low battery notification, but doesn't look as if battery is charging.

Connect with cable to computer.   Your ipad is in recovery mode.

My Macbook Pro will not charge. I have tried other charges and nothing. Can the MagSafe port go bad? Is that expensive to repair?

The port can fail. Internal boards can fail. Batteries can fail. All with the result that no charging occurs.
You can try Resetting the System Management Controller and you can try Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters.
But usually you will have to take the mac in to a service place for testing.  It can get expensive, although occasionally it is not.

  • Iphone 5 will not charge or turn on after updating to ios 8.1.2

I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1.2 just the other day. My phone died last night at about 40% battery left. I have plugged it in for over 30 minutes and it will not charge, I just get a black screen. I have tried the hard reboot, and still nothing. I cannot even get it to go into recovery mode when plugged into my computer on itunes. My phone received a new battery under the battery replacement program less than three months ago. The battery was replaced by the apple store. When I go to support they want my serial number, but I cannot turn on the phone to get it plus they send me an email that I am suppose to open on my iPhone, but I cannot turn it on. Please help, I do not have the money to send it to apple.

I just drove 4 hours to the nearest Apple store, the same on that replaced the battery 3 months ago. They tried to fix it, but could not and then admitted they probably did something when they replaced the battery. So with the manger's approval they replaced my phone at no charge to me, even thought I bought the phone back in 2012.

My iPod Touvh 4th Generation won't turn on. It will not charge even after I used a few chargers and will not connect to a computer. The Home button is broken and I don't know if the Lock/Sleep button is now broken or stuck as well. I believe there may be a problem with the battery or the backlight. I've had my screen replaced once by some stooges. What should I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it  says place the iPod in recoverymode use one of these programs.
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Magsafe will not charge...is this correct?

    Hello all,
I have a 15" 2008 MBP and just bought a 13" unibody. I just discovered that the power adapter for the 13" will not will not charge the 15" or even illuminate the LED on the Magsafe, whether running or not. Is this to be expected? I had believed the adapter would at least be able to charge the 15" when the machine was not running.
The converse of this (15" supply on 13") does work, although I don't plan to do this regularly.
Thanks for any ideas on this situation!

bliberty: It should work: you should be able to charge the 15" machine with the 60W (not 65W) adapter that came with the 13" model, at least when the bigger machine is not running and no bus-powered peripherals are connected to it. Unfortunately, if everything works properly when the right adapter is used with each machine, there's no malfunction that Apple is likely to help you with.
I would reset the 15" machine's SMC and then try it again.

  • Why did my charger already go bad..bought another one and it went bad..now phone will not charge..only had it 2 months..what a disappointment so far..should have stayed with Apple..would like to get my money back. Terrible experience so far.

Why did my charger from Verizon already go bad..bought another one and it went bad..now the phone will not charge..what a disappointment and a hassle..should have stuck with Apple..only had the phone 2 months. Hope they will exchange it!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is either a Phone issue or an Electrical issue in your home.!   when charging Do you always use the same electrical  outlet?  or did you try others..
You will know or should know if there are any issues with your other Electronics.. that you Plug into it..
If it is the s5 which it sounds like it could be then the Local Verizon store at there Discretion will determined if replacement is needed you have a 1 year Manufactures Warranty that covers for things like what your Describing I would take it too your local store see if they'll get you a Replacement or you may have to go through Samsung..
But I would Try another OUTLET just to see if your phone charges with it.. And Good Luck b33

can i put it into disk mode if the computer doesnt recognise it at all?
    Yes, you can.
"Putting your iPod into disk mode" is simply a process that involves pressing a few buttons on your iPod, getting it into Disk Mode.
To put your iPod into Disk Mode, follow the steps in this article -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
As Bryan said, see if the iPod is recognized by your computer when it's in disk mode.
