POWERBOOK WILL NOT TURN ON

i got a powerbook from my girlfriend and there had been some issues when she had it. she gave it to me when she got a new computer. i wiped the hd and did a clean install to start fresh. here are the issues i've experienced; the computer freezes up at random times. sometimes when you moved it other times when you were working on a table. i replaced the power supply and just purchased a new battery. the battery that came with the computer works but i thought it would be best to trouble shoot by getting a new one. all of a sudden i can't even turn the computer on. when i press the power button i hear three chimes/rings and the computer never boots up. i tried turning it on with no battery and just the power supply. i tried it with the power supply and no battery still no go. what the heck to i do?? i rest the PMU, removed the memory one by one to see if that might be the problem, still nothing. i checked the trackpad cable to see if it is pinched no signs of damage. i'm not sure if i should spend money on the computer by giving it to a tech or just by something new.
i have not tried the new battery yet but i'm almost positive that is not the problem.
any help is greatly appreciated

  • Powerbook G4 17" will not turn on with battery installed

    Hello,
My PB will not turn on anymore. The battery was down. I bought a new battery and it is loading properly (except for the light on the adapter is always green while loading). But when I try to put the PB on, with only the battery installed, nothing happens. I just hear the fan is turning on, but it will not start-up.
If I remove the battery and plug-in the adapter the PB starts-up normally.
It's strange, I really thought i'd solve the problem with a new battery, but it doesn't help.
Anybody know what is going on here?

I have the same problem with my 17" Powerbook G4. I replace the PRAM battery and that did not work. I took it to the local Apple store to have them take a look at it the the tech said he had never seen one act like this. He told me that his guess was the it is a bad logic board. Not sure I want the put that kind of money into it. Its a good laptop but the logic boards are high in price. One thing I though about doing just to see is to replace the DC in board. There is a web site call powerbookmedic.com that has them for 50 bucks. Its the same place I got my PRAM battery.

  • My Powerbook will not power up, but I can hear the fan running...

Please help!! My Powerbook will not power up, but I can hear the fan running when I press the power button to attempt to power it up. I just received a new power adapter because it wasn't working properly and it was doing this before and then it worked for a week and now it will not power up at all. It just starts the fan but nothing else turns on. When I plug the adapter, with the battery still connected, it will look as if it is charging but then the light on the plug turns from green to orange then off and doesn't power up at all. If I take the battery out and plug in the adapter, the light stays on but it does not power up except for the fan noise. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also followed the two articles listed online in regards to resetting the power setting and the command + alt + P + R as well. Nothing works. Thanks in advance.....

Same here. If I start up with the power adapter attached, it starts up fine. If I try to start up from battery only, the fan comes on, the sleep light comes on but nothing else happens. I tried letting it sit that way for about 15 minutes and nothing changed. I tried attaching the power cord while in this mode and nothing changed. I tried the PMU reset a couple of times but nothing helps.
This computer is just over 1 year old and I have not had any problems with the power cord (3rd party), the battery, or any problem like this before. It started after a proper shutdown last night and attempt to start without the power cord this afternoon.
Any answers to this yet? I think I'll call on this and report any success to this discussion.

There is a hardware problem.  Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.

Cconnect it to your computer with the latest version of iTunes installed.

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch will not turn on

Over the last two years, I've battled with inconsistent performance from my iPod Touch 32GB 4th Gen. At some point, I think it got overheated, and I believe that's when the battery issues started. Here's an in-depth look at the various problems...
    1) The iPod will not turn on for weeks at a time. YES, I HAVE tried pressing the home button and wake button at the same time. Please do not suggest that I do that. When I plug it into either a USB port or my wall charger, the iPod will either A) not respond in 90% of cases or B) show the little charging symbol in the other 10%. If I unplug my iPod at this point, it shows the typical "Connect to charger" illustration. However, if I leave it connected to the wall, it will sit there, acting like it's charging, but never actually does. It never even gets to the Apple screen, and this often goes on for days. I have already tried "restore" mode in iTunes to no avail either.
    2) The iPod will charge (after weeks off of the charger), but only for about 25-30 minutes. Once I get it to turn on, it will only charge to about 20% usually, and then I have to remove and re-insert the USB plug to get it to charge further. I cannot use the iPod during this charging time, as it will deplete the battery and put it back in the state from number 1 for weeks. In connection to this problem, my laptop (primary charging source) now makes the sound effect of a USB device being inserted and removed fairly often, even when no iPod is connected, and when the iPod is connected, the USB ports will randomly charge (or not charge) my iPod.
    3) Even on full charge (that rare occasion), my battery life only lasts about an hour.
I don't have a Genius bar anywhere near here, and this iPod is at least 3 years old, so it's not worth pouring a lot of money into to repair or replace. Any solutions?

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery
    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
Sounds like at least a bad battery

  • Mid-2009 Macbook Pro will not turn on

    Hi Folks,
so my mid-2009 15in Macbook Pro will not turn on. I updated the OS to Mavericks in December 2013. I'm from California, but I recently moved to the Guam/Marianas area where it is more humid and generally around 87 degrees F all day. For the past month my computer has worked fine, albeit I did notice the fan was running a little more than usual. I usually would just put it into sleep mode when I would finish using it (apparently a bad idea based off of reading other posts concerning humidity and, more importantly, heat). One day I finished using it, closed it and the next day went to open it; I could hear the fans start to work, but then it stopped. It hasn't turned on since. You press the power button and nothing happens. I tried all the troubleshooting stuff.
So, my question is this: what do you think is the problem? Moreover, how much do you think it could cost to repair it? My experience with computers suggests to me that it's probably a dead motherboard. I'm wondering if it's worth trying to salvage this thing or if it would be prohibitively expensive. There are no Apple stores in the area to take it in to get advice unfortunately.
Now, I just want to vent a little frustration. I have many apple products, and I've even switched my mother over to an apple computer, but now that I need some very basic support, apple doesn't provide a contact e-mail or a free chat? I think charging someone $19 for 'one time assistance' is ludicrous. I bet if I brought this into an apple store I could at least get some advice, and thus get some idea how I want to proceed with repairs or not. I suppose I'm also rather frustrated that my macbook, which I have been most happy with all these years, breaks because I go somewhere a little more humid and generally warmer? It would appear that the hardware failure is connected to the climate. This makes me skeptical about purchasing another mac if it can't handle a little humidity. (I have not spilled liquids on it, nor have used this computer while transitioning from an air-conditioned/humid location which could potentially cause condensation). I do not think I'm being unreasonable (yes I do think a $2500 computer should not fail after less than 5 years), but if you think I am unreasonable, please enlighten me.
Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.
    Ken

    Ken,
the “Important Handling Information” in the little white manual that came in the box with your MacBook Pro states that its operating temperature range is from 50 °F to 95 °F (10 °C to 35 °C), and that its operating range of relative humidity is 5% to 90% (non-condensing). If your corner of the Pacific is outside of these ranges, the manual states that “Failure to follow these handling instructions could result in damage to your MacBook Pro”.
I have no idea what problem your MacBook Pro has; since you’ve tried all of the troubleshooting stuff, you’ll need to somehow get your MacBook Pro to a qualified service facility to diagnose the problem. If the logic board does need to be replaced, it would probably cost hundreds of dollars for a replacement, and you might find that purchasing a replacement used MacBook Pro of the same model to be price-competitive with just replacing your MacBook Pro’s logic board.
If you find Apple’s out-of-warranty policies unacceptable, then your only alternative to venting would be to purchase your next computer from a different company which has out-of-warranty policies more to your taste.

  • My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode

My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode as well as the DFU? mode and it still will not work. I have the latest version of iTunes on my Mac. My error code was 2002. I also tried it on my laptop (windows 8.1) and none of the above worked. My error code on my laptop was 02. The phone is through Verizon and it has absolutely no damage. It was working fine up until this and I have been trying to fix it for 2 days. Please help! I am unsure of what version the phone was currently running on before this because I have another iphone that's my primary phone and have not used this one in about a month. I do not believe it was updated to IOS 7.

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

  • My iPhone 3gs will not turn on, charge, or allow me to perform a hard reset. iTunes nor my computer recognizes it andthe screen wont light up at all. What can I do to fix this?

I have an iPhone 3gs that is out of warranty. I purchased this phone from AT&T. Last night my phoone went completely dead (battery percentage was at 96% just moments before) and now will not turn back on. I have tried just about everything I have found on discussion boards- trying hard reset, plugging into itunes, charging for15-20 mins then holding down sleep and homebuton..... NOTHING works. This phone will not light up AT ALL. My computer wont even recognize it. Is there anything else I can do?

Make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • TS4585 My phone will not turn on and when it does, it only stays on for a few minutes.  The last time it said it was necessary to do a restore in itunes, but shut off again before i could read rest of warning

My phone was working fine last night.  Plugged it into the charger and went to bed. Woke up this am to it off.  It would not turn on.  I tried a different charger and a different outlet.  Tried several times to hold down power and volume and or the menu button.  Finally, several hours later, holding the power and volume buttoon turned on the phone.  Said had 1%battery, so i kept it plugged in for about 5 min.  It went up to 2%.  I started to look at recieved text, then it went dead again.  Repeated the same steps and left it plugged in.  It kept turning off.  till finally, it went dim and a warning message came on to restore phone from itunes but idid not see the end of warning bc it shut off again.  Now it will not turn on, but has the white apple symbol turning off and on over and over.  I can not find the option to restore the phone, plus the phone is not on so the computer is not registering that its plugged in.  I can not call out bc no landline and can not call tech support.  Does anyone know why this is, or what to do?????????????

  • 2 day old iphone 5s turns off at 95% battery life and will not turn back on. HELP

So I had an iphone 4s for two years, the battery started to not last as long, so with my upgrade I got the iphone 5s (greatttt). Anyways I had it for a month then all of a sudden I wasn't getting calls, it took over a minute for me to even get a call to send, then once I was on the call others couldn't hear me well, then it would drop (no problems with service, always happened with full bars).  Brought it to Apple store, they told me it was a combination between the phone and my SIM card.  They gave me a new one and recommended I go to verizon to get a new SIM card.  That same day literally 3 hours later, the phone turned off randomly at 65% battery and WOULD NOT turn back on.  I had to go back to the apple store, they restored my phone and almost gave me another new one. However they tested the battery and everything and came to the conclusion it was okay and that I needed to restore the phone and set it up as if I did not already have an iphone (not use icloud to bring EVERYTHING over) So we did that and it started to work, that was two days ago.  Over the course of the last two days I have SLOWLY downloaded my previous APPS, however the only way to download those are to do it from the "cloud" because apparently I can't just get them from the app store.  Well yesterday I got the blue screen of death, however it came back, I thought nothing except that it was over worked.  Tonight it went down to 1%, I left it on the charger until it was at 96%.  I had NO APPS open. Went to my calendar and added a event for tomorrow, put my phone down and then ten minutes later looked at it and its turned off.  It will not turn on, I tried rebooting pressing both buttons, Ive plugged it back it, switched outlets, switched cords, NOTHING.
Of course I wish I never got the iphone 5s at this point.
    What now?
    Back to Apple again?

    Yep.
Just like cars, you lucked on a lemon.
