Powerbook wont sleep when ichat connected

whenever my computer is connected to ichat, even if thats the only program running, the display will sleep but the hard drive will not. I have tried adjusting all the settings that seem to make sense in the energy saver panel but still - no dice. can anyone help? i saw someone else with a similar problem, but the other person's computer also would not recover and required shutdown. mine will awake from display sleep but it just never naturally goes into hard drive sleep. if, however, i close it or go to apple --> sleep, it will sleep. i dont' mind being logged off of ichat, i just need it to sleep.

Add-ons and third Party items that get iChat to do things it does not normally do.
There is a large variety of what different ones do.

Basically I would thinks that you would know if you were using Live Icon or iChat Streaming Icon.
I am also sure you would know if you had anything that was changing your Status Message rapidly.
I once had a problem with an All-in-One Scanner Printer that put an item in System preferences > Accounts > my account > Login items that checked if I had put a media card from a camera in the slots on the scanner/printer and did not let me shut down (I rarely get to the point where my computer sleeps)
I would follow the pointers and look in your Login Items list and see if there is anything in there that is doing something similar (It may not be a printer/scanner monitor)
I would also check which of your Widgets are active.

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. This will erase your device. Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

iPod touches or any iDevices from Apple sync only to one computer. If you sync to a different computer, all your music will be replace with the music from the new computer's iTunes. If the music were purchased from iTunes, you can re-download them again otherwise the music on iPod touch will be deleted. Do you have iTunes backup?

TS3274 My iPad wont charge when I connect it to power

My iPad wont charge when I connect it to power. I have restarted it but the problem seems to be that it doesn't recongise the actual charger. Any ideas?

First ensure you are using a 10 watt/2 amp charger if you are not using the one included with the iPad. Then I would try a new sync cable. You can then test the charger by connecting another USB based device such as an iPod or iPhone to it to see if it charges. If the iPad is completely dead it may require some charge time before it will become responsive. If the sync cable and charger work fine with other devices you iPad is probably defective and requires repair.

i updated my iphone 4s and tried connecting it to my mac but itunes wont open at all, so i updated mac software as well as itunes, and itunes still won't open up when i connect my phone.
P.S. iv'e already tried taking the USB cord out and plugging it back in twice already... still wont open.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

My Macbook Pro goes to sleep when I connect the magsafe adapter.

Hi, if I am using my MBP on battery and then 1) close the lid to put it to sleep, 2) later connect it to the magsafe and then 3) try to wake it up (in that order only, and more frequently if in the login screen), it powers up for a second then goes back to sleep. Not always but frequently. It takes about 10 seconds to power down, and then once asleep, it takes about 5 seconds before it will wake up again. After that, everything is fine. My only workaround seems to be to wake the computer first, wait about 10 seconds and then connect the magsafe. Has anyone else experienced this? I never noticed this before I upgraded to Mountain Lion.

This very well could be the same issue as below. Please read the full copy of the post and see if the behavior matches. What's happeing is that if you have this update installed, whenever you plug or unplug the power adapter to the laptop, the system will wake from sleep and then go back to sleep if the lid is closed. What you're doing is plugging it in which causes it to wake up, then when you finally open it a couple of seconds later, you're catching it as it's going back to sleep and once it does that it then sees that you opened it and wakes back up again. Either plug it in and wait for that wake/sleep and then open it or open it and then plug it in.

This is a problem with all 2012 MacBook Pros that have applied the update DL1609 via Software Update. This update is called MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Update 2.0. The only fix that exists for this is to reinstall OSX and just not install this update when it shows in the available updates list in the AppStore. Just hide it until this issue is fixed by Apple.
If your OSX 10.8.2 version is anything after version (12C60) then you will have this problem. The problem is as follows. With the system asleep with clamshell closed, plugging and unplugging the power cable causes the system to wake up and go back to sleep. Additionally, leaving the system plugged into power for over 4 hours will cause the system to go into hibernation, but only when plugged in. If it's not connected to AC power while sleeping for that long, it will not enter hibernation.
Please call Apple and complain about this problem. I have been working with them for over a month and a half trying to get them to fix this and it's a major hand-holding process because they didn't initially understand the issue. Add to that the fact that they insisted that this problem doesn't exist and it just made it that much harder to get them to see the issue.
You need to call them AppleCare and let them know you're having this problem. Along with that, email the rep you're working with links to every Apple Support Forum thread you can find on this. Trust me, there are several with this same exact problem.

HP Computer won't sleep when wrt54g connected

My HP Pavilion m9340f running Vista 64 bit will not enter a sleep mode on its own and wakes unexpectedly while connected to my wrt54g firmware version 4.21.1 10/17/2005.
If I disconnect the router and connect the computer directly to the cable modem, the sleep mode works fine. Does any one know of a way to fix this?

The problem was an advanced setting in the power plan I was using. The default for the balanced and power saving plan is to "prevent idling to sleep" when sharing media and I had allowed media sharing on my pc.
I went to control panel > power options > change plan settings > change advanced power settings > multmedia settings > when sharing media - and select allow the computer to sleep
I can restore default the settings when I actually am sharing media

Turn off Mac sleep when iPod connected

Is there a way to make a PowerMac running MacOS X 10.4.2 NOT go to sleep when an iPod is connected? I can only charge my iPod by connecting it to the USB bus of the computer. The first time I was charging it, my Mac put the display to sleep and I couldn't get it to wake up. I eventually had to shut down my Mac and then reboot it.
I'd like to be able to set my Mac to sleep normally when nothing is connected but to stay awake with the iPod connected. Is this possible?

However, I posted this question in another forum and was pointed to an Applescript which utilized the 'pmset' command to change the sleep settings. With that knowledge I was able to write a Unix csh script which checks to see if the iPod is mounted and, if so, calls the pmset command to disable sleep. If the iPod is not mounted, the pmset command is called to enable sleep. In case anyone is interested, here is the script:

I then used the Unix 'cron' facility to have the script run once every minute. So, once a minute the system checks to see if the iPod is connected and, if so, disables sleep.

The current provided by most USB ports on computers is not sufficient to charge the iPad. It may charge but the not charging icon will show, and the charge rate will be quite slow.

Wont sleep when lid open

hello all. I just noticed that my macbook will not go to sleep when idle for the appropriate amount of time.
I set sleep to after 1 minute. the display sleeps, but the computer does not.
I tried turning off bluetooth, google notifier, reset SMU and PRAM.
any ideas?

I just got a replacement battery from Apple for another problem (MacBook would shut down at 30% charge remaining when on battery, the new battery fixed that so far). The problem started after installing the new battery.

When I plug my Iphone into the computer either Itunes wont open or if it's open it wont recognize the phone. The computer shows it's connected because it always asks when program I wont to use to look at the pictures. I have tried rebooting the computer and it doesn't help. I had the same thing. Here's what fixed it for me:
I had downloaded the latest iTunes (7.3) but because my existing copy of iTunes wasn't in the base, Applications folder, it didn't overwrite my existing iTunes application. Therefore, when you go to click on iTunes in your dock, or any desktop alias, etc., it's still opening the old version. Try opening the newly downloaded version (in the base, Applications folder) and try it again. I bet ya it'll work.

Built-in iSight Freezes when iChat Connection is established

I'm attempting to iChat with friends who have an iMac Duo from my Macbook. Both our cameras work just fine. This has been confirmed using Photobooth. However, the moment we connect their camera image freezes and I receive no image of them is transmitted to me. We've used Connection Doctor to confirm that no video signal is being received on my end, but their getting signal just fine from me.
Things we've made sure of are.
1. We know from Photobooth and iChat before connection is made that their camera works fine.
2. We know there are no blocks in place.
3. At an Apple Operator's suggestion we are both using 100kbps setting to rule out bandwidth issues.
4. We have both followed the instructions of this article, http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208
One Apple operator suggested we reinstall iChat AV, but there is no way to do so from the Apple website. The Apple Site only goes up to 2.1, and that won't install.
My friends and I are good Apple people with .Mac accounts using iChat (a Mac service) with Mac Products. Also, we both have current Apple Care protection plans. Basically, we're all APPLE! Please help us.

Sorry you are having problems with video chat. Until you get more good suggestions from Tony, here are a couple more things you can consider:
(0) Unless you have already tried restarting, shut down everything. Then restart your modem and wait until it finishes its self-test. If you use a router, restart it and let its self-test run. When all self-tests are finished, restart your Mac and try again.
(1) If the restart does not get things working for you, when you post back, please let us know whether you and your problem contact can successfully text chat. Also, can you successfully audio chat?
(2) It will usually be simpler to fix one problem at a time. Both you and the chat buddy you are trying to contact should test with others to determine which system is the source of the problem. See this list of Buddy Names for iChat Test for names of testers you can add to your buddy lists.
When testing with anyone other than the "Auto-Respond Test Accounts", I suggest that always text first. Successful video is very unlikely if you cannot get a successful text connection.
(3) If you cannot connect with anyone, check your internet service, connection, and Check your Broadband Speed. Post back both your DOWNLOAD and UPLOAD speeds.
We will try to offer more specific suggestions based on your responses.

when i plug my ipod in, my computers goes ding saying that a device is connected. then, it dings 3 additional times and then itunes doesnt open. my ipod starts to charge and i cant open itunes manually either. Please help. ive checked the wires for the usb and their fine. my computer is virus free too. what could be causing this unconnection to itunes.

You can cache the cloud documents that you most often read by opening them once when the network is available. Edits made to these documents would be automatically synced back to the cloud if the network is available. If for any reason the network is not available, these would be synced the next time network becomes available.

By taking it to a third party, you have voided any warranty you may have had, and now apple will not touch your phone. Sounds like they have crossed things up on your phone and you need to buy a new one. Make sure you buy it from apple or an authorized apple carrier.
