PowerBuilder 12.5.2 question

Does PowerBuilder 12.5.2 include any component in order to develop Mobile applications? If so which component is it?

Hi Erika;
  PowerBuilder does not posses any web or mobility features and neither will PB v15 (either Classic or PB.Net). However, as Roland eludes to - Appeon provides both of these features for PB developers in the form of its Appeon Web and Appeon Mobile products.
For lots of articles on Appeon, type in "Appeon" in the Search criteria area ... Great White North Technical Evangelist
Also, check out PBTV for more Appeon information ....  PowerBuilderTV</title> <meta property="og:title" content="PowerBuilderTV"/> <me…

PS: I have a free PB/Appeon framework as well:  STD Foundation Classes | Free Development software downloads at SourceForge.net

  • Question about Using PAPI Web Service in PowerBuilder 9

    Hi, all.
    I Have a simple question about using papiws in power builder 9.
    In pb9, I created a new Web Service Proxy Wizard and I input a url for papiws(ex. http://seraphpernote:7001/papiws/PapiWebService) and click next.
    But I couldn't get any Service List.
    In Eclipse, I used this url for using papiws well.
    Does anybody know about this case??
    help me plz.

    IIRC you must activate PAPI-WS for the engine. In Studio you do it by right-clicking on the project, then "engine preferences". In enterprise/standalone you must activate PAPI-WS in the Admin Center.

  • Tuxedo/Powerbuilder Integration Questions

    Please excuse my ignorance.
    Anyone have experience with Tuxedo (unix) to Powerbuilder (Win32) interaction?
    Just how easy/hard is it?
    Is there a Tuxedo supplied DLL (or whatever) that provides the interface as shown
    for C/COBOL? (it is not immediately obvious from the intro.pdf or the tutor.pdf)
    How easy is it to implement datawindows (or equivilent) in the Tuxedo framework?
    Any code examples we can look at?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Tuxedo has /WS which allows Win32 clients to call Tux services. From
    PowerBuilder you can call these /WS DLLs directly or wrap them up in a C DLL
    with Visual C++.
    It is up to you. The DLLs you may need are (in %TUXDIR%\bin and
    %TUXDIR%\lib): wtuxws32.dll and libwsc.dll (the least). But in the Runtime
    you will need the full /WS worksation installation. See Tux's online docs
    for /WS.

  • Please answer a programming question for an admin

    I'm not a programmer (although my interest is growing), so I can't answer this question in a discussion regarding how Win32API w/OLE and COM is SO much better than programming for Unix/OS X applications.
    The original discussion was in regards to OS X's superior Unix based security, he devolved to this. Having only begun my venture into programming, his questions are a little above my head at this point. I'm also interested (as an amature programmer), how this would be accomplished in OS X/Unix.
    Thanks in advance.
    Here's his position:
    *(1st entry)*
    I have unsed Windows and many flavors of Unix and I have written programs in Assembler, Fortran, Pascal, Cobol, RPG, Smalltak, Basic, PowerBuilder, Delphi, C, C++, C#, Java, and Perl, and I have been programming for over 20 years, so I do have extensive knowledge about programming.
    So I have one question for you:
    If you had to build a business application that has to allow users to, spell and grammer check, and perform financial calculations, and render the HTML, how would you compare the effort to do this in Windows versus that in Linux, AIX, Solaris or any other Unix operating system?
    I can make this business application have these features in ONE DAY on Windows, because COM and OLE lets me, use Word to spell and grammer check, Excel to do the financial calculations, and IE to render the HTML!
    I make my living building complex customized business software, and Windows allow me to build these applications by myself in weeks, when it would take me and a team of programmers months to do these same things in Unix because of the lack of an the Win32 API, COM, and OLE, or I would have to BUY third party libraries that did these things, and deal with the licensing, versioning, and vendor problems that go with them, and none of those third party librabries would be close to Word, Excel, and IE in CAPABILITY!
    HONESTLY tell me and others reading this thread how you would go about create the customized business application I described above by yourself in a Unix instead of Windows, and tell us how many MONTHS or YEARS it would take you, or how you would have to BUY some other third party libraries to do what Word, Excel, and IE!
    Anyone who thinks a Unix has more CAPABILITIES than Windows, has never used Win32API/COM/OLE/.Net, and does not build customized complex business software for a living, because we people that do are the reason that you find some much customized business desktop software for Windows, and so little for any Unix.
    I have nothing against Unix, and it is great for simple business tasked server software, but for complex business tasked desktop software Windows with Win32API/COM/OLE/.Net wins hands down!
    *(2nd Entry)*
    A System administrators view of an operating system and an application developers view are entirely different, and the Win32API/COM/OLE/.NET simply make my job so much easier, and you simply don't understand because you do not have to deal with the "dirty' details of making what a user wants, which is why your definition of "integration" and mines are totally different!
    With the spell check you talked about, how will you keep in in synch with the dictionary in Word where the user is constantly adding and removing words?
    No, you would have the user to have to maintain two different spell check dictionaries, and you would totally ignore the grammer check requirement!
    Cutting and pasting data between applications is simple integration, and not the complex type that I am talking about.
    Can you make your application display and use the MacGourmet menus appear in its own window, and to access and use the MacGourmet functionality (ie. search for a recipe) in its own window?
    Give me one example of a Unix application that can display the menus of another application, yet alone control its features!
    Of course you can't, because you need COM and OLE!
    I am quite familiar with different flavors of Unix, but those operating systems do not have the rich API and program integration features namely COM and OLE that Windows has, because it violates the Unix idea of security by process isolation!
    Yes that idea of process isolation keeps the operating system safe from malicious code in applications and from one application taking the others down, but you lose the power of programs working together, and you simply cannot build the type of customized business applications that I build by myself, without reinventing the wheel over and over and without having a large team with lots of programmers.
    For example, my customers and millions of others spend all day working in Word and Excel, and the Windows idea that I can transparently integrate my complex business applications right in Word and Excel menu, and into their templates and macros, is why third party developers like me prefer Windows over Unix, regardless of how much better security in Unix is.
    Do not get me wrong, Java improves business application development on Unix, but unfortuantely it is not feasable to rewrite ever legacy application in Java, and Java does not integrate well with other programming languages.
    I used to code business application for both IBM MVS and Sun Solaris, and I never want to go back to those "bad" old days again, once I took the time to learn how to PROPERLY code using Win32API/COM/OLE/.NET!

    At risk of feeding the troll I'll wander in here:
    NOTE: Since this is an Apple programming boards and I have limited experience programming on traditional Unix systems (and most of that in college) I will confine my answers to the area I know.
    Note that this scenario assumes the user has Microsoft office installed. The person argues that they don't have to purchase libraries to program but what they are effectively doing is simply transferring that cost to user. I don't have to purchase libraries but everyone of my users needs to. Good for you, very good for Microsoft but bad for your customer - IMHO. OK, I know "But all Windows business users have Office installed already." When it comes free with the system then I'll retract my objection.
    Under OS X and Cocoa many of these functions are intrinsic to the system layer and do not require any applications to be installed. Using Cocoa you can write a simple Word processor that has rulers, full font manipulation (including kerning, spacing and leading), Document Save and Load, Printing, Export to PDF as well as spell-checking in under 10 lines of actual code. Adding a custom file type and icon for full system integration will add another 5 minutes to your programing.
    In case you think I'm blowing smoke here is a tutorial from 2002 (yes, this has been possible for over 5 years) outlining the 8 line Word Processor build in Cocoa. http://www.stone.com/TheCocoa_Files/What_s_sofunny.html
    And yes, Cocoa also includes Webkit so I can add full HTML rendering by dragging in a WebKit window to my user interface. For an experienced Cocoa programmer this certainly sounds like less than a day of programming - in fact it sounds like a good tutorial for a middle-experienced training day or 2 day class in Cocoa.
    I won't include the link to the 1 line web browser you can build in Cocoa using Webkit because it's shorter than the description. Feel free to search for it if you want to.
    HONESTLY tell me and others reading this thread how you would go about create the customized business application I described above by yourself in a Unix instead of Windows, and tell us how many MONTHS or YEARS it would take you, or how you would have to BUY some other third party libraries to do what Word, Excel, and IE!
    BUT this is all done from the stock system that is on every OS X computer not simply those with Office installed. Obviously you'd need to add some features that were more complicated than this - because any halfway decent programmer could turn this stuff out - and polish takes a while but to meet the requirements of the challenge it would take 2 days tops.
    Is every *nix programming environment like this? I don't know I can only answer for the system that I have experience with and is the concern of this board. If you really have questions regarding *nix programming then I suggest you find an appropriate board and troll^H^H^H^H^H ask there.
    If you're ever serious about programming on the Mac feel free to stop by and actually take a look at it. I think you'll be surprised.

  • Using Oracle Stored Proc as Data Source for PowerBuilder Data Window Object

    Hi,
    I'm trying to use an Oracle stored procedure as the data source for a PowerBuilder data window object. I'm using the following (which is a variation of an example given on Sybase's web site, with the appropriate database/column name changes and use of %TYPE):
    ======================
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE pkg_dw_sp_example
    AS
    TYPE typ_example_rec1 IS RECORD(
    v_comcodsa st_sa.comcodsa%TYPE,
    v_comnamsa st_sa.comnamsa%TYPE,
    v_cocitysa st_sa.cocitysa%TYPE);
    TYPE cur_example_cur1 IS REF CURSOR;
    RETURN typ_example_rec1;
    END;
    ======================
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE sp_dw_example1
    (arg_teamid IN st_sa.comcodsa%TYPE,
    cur_team IN OUT pkg_dw_sp_example.cur_example_cur1)
    AS
    BEGIN
    OPEN cur_team FOR
              SELECT comcodsa,
              comnamsa,
              cocitysa
              FROM st_sa
              WHERE st_sa.comcodha = arg_teamid;
    END sp_dw_example1;
    ======================
    The package is created okay, but the procedure is saved with compilation errors. Unfortunately, Oracle does not indicate what the errors are (great product), so I have no idea what it is complaining about.
    Questions:
    1) Can anyone point me to/or provide a better example?
    2) The examples in books I have seen all would have declared the procedure in the package specification - is the above valid?
    3) This is a PowerBuilder specific question, but if the package does not show up in the stored procedure list when creating a data window object, how does one use it as a data source?
    Oracle 8.1.7
    PowerBuilder 8.0.1
    Thanks,
    Ed Holloman

    1) Everything looks fine with your code. You did not mention the environment you are compiling your code in, but if it is SQL*Plus, you can type 'show errors' after the compile and it will list the errors and line numbers for you.
    2) You can include the procedure in the package - in which case you would have a procedure declaration in the spec and the actual procedure in the body. You would no longer include the 'create or replace' - the declaration and procedure would just start with 'procedure'. The spec would look include:
    PROCEDURE sp_dw_example1
      (arg_teamid IN st_sa.comcodsa%TYPE,
       cur_team OUT cur_example_cur1);Note the removal of the package reference (since we are now IN the package) and the second parameter is just OUT instead of IN OUT.
    3) Not much, but I know that in PB8, our developers have said they have visibility now to the package when creating a DW - something they didn't have in PB7. Previously, we had to create a dummy standalone procedure that they would select and they would later modify the code to include the package prefix.
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Powerbuilder an Chinese Characters

    I am using powerbuilder 12.5.2 Build 5006 with a MSSQL Server 2008 SP2 database.Version 10.0.5500.0
    The connection to the database uses ODBC and the connect string is
    DBParm=ConnectString='DSN=StarKISHK_Dev;UID=;PWD=;APP=%app%;WSID=%wsid%',ConnectOption='SQL_INTEGRATED_SECURITY,SQL_IS_ON',PBCatalogOwner='dbo',StripParmNames='Yes',DisableBind=1
    I can retreive and display Chinese characters, however if I enter Chinese characters in a datawindow, and perform an update, only question marks are saved to the database. The update uses a stored procedure.
    The datawindow column is called stock_message and is defined as a string, the parameters for the stored procedure are
    [usp_update_day_stock_message]
        @shop_no            SMALLINT,
        @trading_date        DATETIME,
        @stock_message        NVARCHAR(MAX)
    and the table is defined as
    [dbo].[trading_conditions](
        [shop_no] [smallint] NOT NULL,
        [trading_date] [datetime] NOT NULL,
        [stock_message] [nvarchar](max) NULL
    What is preventing the Chinese characters being saved properly?
    (I saw an old post saying set disablebind=0 in the connection string but that didn't work)

    Actually, the better place to ask a technical question like this is over in the PowerBuilder Developer Center.  This area is more for people who are interesting in finding out more about the product, not the folks who are already using it.  As a result, most of the developers are over in the developer center, not here.

  • Missing icon on task bar of executable powerbuilder

    I have a very strange issue....
    This occurs when I execute our software application that has been build with powergen( powerbuilder).  When I execute the executable( acct123.exe) that was built, some of the icons that we created and use ( on a task bar) have 'red X' instead of the image.  When I select the icon it executes properly.
    I talked to some of the people testing the application and they would see the 'red X' some days and other days, the image would display.
    I have attached a jpg that shows the icons red X
    any thoughts?????????????????????????

    Hello Deanna,
    A few thoughts / questions.
    1) Has this application worked properly before or is this a new EXE?
    2) Is it possible that the application is referencing any of the images using a directory path that is set up in the properties of a datawindow and the path has changed?
    3) Any changes in the Operating System or Servers?  What is the environment?  I ask this because you say sometimes users see the icons and sometimes they don't.
    4) Verify that all the files referenced are in the same directory (EXE, PBD, DLL, images, etc.)
    5) And as Bruce asked is there PBR file referenced?  If so, did you include it in the Build process?

  • Exit codes from PowerBuilder executable in Redwood

    We are currently in the process of Integration Testing for SAP Go-Live planned for March 31, 2008.  Our Integration Testing is being done thru Redwood Job Scheduler.  There appears to be a problem with exit codes from our PowerBuilder executable that does not correlate to condition codes in Redwood.  The PowerBuilder executable either returns an exit code of 1 for successful or -1 for not successful.  Redwood interprets -1 as KILLED.  In reality the situation is that some records are processed successfully, but once a bad record is encountered, an exit code of -1 is set to indicate an error.  The question is - what can be done in Redwood to interpret PowerBuilder exit codes correctly?  In this case, we would expect an ERROR status to be produced but not a KILLED status which is misleading.

    This is much simple. Redwood is based on Oracle. You can get a help of oracle developer, you can handle this based on either exceptions or decode statement.
    Otherwise, you can write a job that gets triggered based on killed status of this job and checks the actual error in PB log file. Then it will change the status of this job to Error in database instead of Killed.

  • Compatibility of TFS 2013's MSSCCI with PowerBuilder 12.5

    Does anyone know if there are any compatibility issues with using PowerBuilder 12.5 and TFS 2013?  We are planning on upgrading our TFS server from 2010 to 2013.  I've seen discussions on PB 12.5 using TFS 2012, and PB 11.5 using TFS 2013.....but
    what about PB 12.5 with TFS 2013?

     Hi Andria,
    Thanks for your post.
    According the information in
    TFS 2013 MSSCCI Provider download site, the PowerBuilder 12.5 not displays in support products list. So we suggest you use PowerBuilder 11.5 works with TFS 2013 MSSCCI.
    And I noted that you have asked a question about this issue in that download site, please tracking the reply from there. And you can try to install the PowerBuilder 12.5 and TFS 2013 MSSCCI on a test machine to check if there’s any error.

  • Procedure from PowerBuilder returning multiple rows

    In want to call a procedure from PowerBuilder which return multiple rows. I would like to know how to write the procedure and also how to call it. I tried using REFCURSOR , but i heard that Powerbuilder doesnot support REFCURSOR . Please help
    Thanks in advance

    This is not a PL/SQL qustion, but a Powerbuilder question.
    Just what SQL constructs does Powerbuilder supports? And if there is no support for ref cursors, then the choice of using a client language that lacks basic core SQL support is questionable.

    Hi Leonard;
      You might want to ask this question as well in the CR Forum as SAP now owns that product as well.  I am sure that Delhi, VB, etc developers must also need to know.

    Hi there,
    I think my question is not clear
    I already installed Solman and its running. And we used the default name for the MSSQL Instance.
    My question is:  During the installation of SAP ECC 5.0. this means:
    1) Installation of MSSQL Instance
    2) Installation of ECC 5.0 Software
    by the installation of the MSQL Instance I get the question if I want to use default name for the DB instance (which is not possible because its already used for DB instance for Solman instance) or another SID.
    And my question: Is it ok to use another SID? (Think that DB name and SAPSID should be the same for SAP).
    if yes, why its saying that SAP recommend default? Does this will make me problem with SAP later?
    This is what is making me afraid and that why I am trying to get a help to be sure that this is possible and will not make any problems for SAP.
    I hope its clear now
    Best regards
