Powered Speakers with Digital Optical Input

Looking for a stereo pair of powered speakers with optical input for use with the MBP. I am not interested in a sub/satellite or 5.1 set-up, just a stereo pair for now. Anyone find any ?

Well, Google found I think what you were mentioning:

Since you are talking about variables, I suppose that you are using CP4, right?
There is a fine tutorial in de CP4-help, chapter 'Variables and advanced actions', 'Tutorial on scripting' which explains more elaborately what I will try here:
Create a user variable, p.e. named 'vName'  (Project, Actions, sheet Variables)
Ask the user to enter his name in a Text Entry Box; in the properties of this TEB, sheet Advanced you indicate that this name should be put in your variable 'vName'
Wherever you want to show this name, create a Text Caption and insert your variable by the button 'Insert variable'; this button is present in the properties window and also in the formatting toolbar if you are editing in place (look for X and and arrow); the variable in the text caption will show as '$$vName$$' and in the published SWF you will see the username.
Hope this could help you, but please check the tutorial.

  • Does the digital optical input recognise Dolby Digital?

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if you could help clarify something for me. I have an Astro Gaming A30 Audio System that I use when playing my PS3. It's a gaming headset with pinpoint-accurate 7.1 Dolby and Dolby Headphone surround sound. Here's a link to the web page if you want to know more about it - http://www.astrogaming.com/products/detail/80/A30-Audio-System/.
Now, at the moment I have the PS3 connected directly to the A30 Audio System with a digital optical cable. In the PS3 settings, I have it set to output Dolby Digital 5.1 as this is the format that the A30 Audio System uses. This setting is important because it's what gives me the surround sound in my headphones. Ok, we're almost at my question...
Recently, I've been thinking of buying a capture card so I can record my game plays and upload them to YouTube. The capture card that I'm thinking of getting is the Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro. Here's a link to the web page - http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/.
My question is - since there is no output on the A30 Audio System, and therefore no way to route the sound into my Mac from it, I need to first send the sound from the PS3 into the Mac (for recording) and then re-send the sound from the Mac into the Astro A30s (for listening). If I do this, will I lose the Dolby Digital format that was originally output from the PS3? I don't mind recording the audio in stereo, but it's essential that the Dolby Digital sound goes to the Astro A30s. Otherwise I won't have proper surround sound. And if you went to the website, you would have noticed that they're pretty expensive. So playing in surround sound is very important to me, as I paid top dollar for them.
Anyway, if you can clarify that for me it would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Daniel

Sure there's a difference it depends completely on the original sample rate of the audio recorded otherwise the best built in audio can do is 48/24, so trying to go out at 96 will force resampling[without a capable app running]. But in terms of resampling, if you use the card then you should be able to use 96/32.
Have you properly adjusted AMS settings; so that the card is in Properties at 96? Still the only governing factor there is whatever software governs the PCI card. I don't get the problem you're having here, what is the connection to the machine, optical?

  • HT2646 Is it possible to plug apple tv into my stereo sound system which does not have digital optical input

I have recently bought Apple tv. It works fine but I would like to run it through my sound system which is an older stereo system and does not have an optical digital input. Is there any other way of running apple tv through these older sound systems which do not have an optical input?

The easiest way is to connect your television's analog audio output to your stereo; since the television is now doing the digital-to-analog audio conversion, audio/video synchronization is preserved. Note that you may have to enable the analog audio output somewhere in your televsion's setup menus; this varies by TV model.

The 'purists' buy seperate systems because it 'looks' like you have a system.
Bollocks. You buy component Hi-Fi to be able to match each component to your exact tastes and requirements and be able to upgrade one component at a time.
If you want to 'look' like you have a system (whatever that means) it would seem to me that the integrated boxen you propose are the prime choice.
I don't want to diss all-in-one systems, they have their place in the market, but to suggest that they are by definition better than seperate component systems is nonsense. I can match a Pioneer DVD player to a Rotel amplifier and hook up ASW Cantius speakers, cause I know Pioneer is good at optical players, Rotel makes excellent amps and ASW makes top-notch speakers. Try that when buying integrated. On the downside, I'll end up paying significantly more money and having components that differ 10mm in width and use different color leds 'n stuff- it's up to me to decide whether that's worth it.

  • Using older receiver with no optical input

Hello my older dlp has gone out so have decided to buy a new one. I want a a 50 + inch tv, think i have decided on plasma because led's are still to high for me. My problem is I have a Kenwood KR-V8040 receiver that has no HDMI or Optical audio inputs. The tvs dont all have the red/white out like i use for my surround sound now. Anyone know how to hook up without that or am i just out of luck?

Brewerrob, you might look for a digital audio to analog audio converter but you would have to Google that and go to another site. Cost looks to be anywhere from $60 up, so I guess at some point it's a decision whether to invest in the conversion or shop for a new receiver--looks like there are some available for under $200 that might work for you. It would be worth shopping as many online retailers as you can to find the best deal. Not sure what BB's policy is about naming names or posting links, but an online retailer based in Virginia lists several; trouble is, you can buy a new receiver for what some of them cost.
If you haven't found it already, you might search the AVS forum (avsforum.com) to see if anyone there has a suggestion.
I'm still using a CRT TV, but have started to shop for a flat panel and have the same problem. I have an older Technics receiver I like (especially since I upgraded speakers to some Polk RTiA1's), but it doesn't have optical, coax, or HDMI input. I will probably be shopping in the 32"-42" range and Sony seems to be the only manufacturer that still includes analog stereo so that will be the way I will go.
    Good luck!

  • Audigy 2 ZS with Digital Optical I/O C

I got the Audigy 2 ZS with my Dell Dimension XPS. I was hoping the Optical Digital I/O card and module I had from my Li've X-Gamer would work with this card as it has the same expansion connector, but I do not get a signal from the I/O module. Is this supposed to work or am I wasting my time?
If this is not supposed to work, is there another method for getting optical out of this board? If my only option is to pick up a Platinum Dri've, I guess I'll do that, but I don't like the idea of permanent cables hanging out of the front of my PC. I have read the posts for getting coax digital, but I am kind of stuck with optical because I have no coax inputs left on my receiver and I have a long cable run from the PC to the receiver.
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Thanks Jason. I looked through the store selection, but did not notice any back-panel option for connecting optical (like the Optical Digital I/O card gave me on the Li've series). Is there such an device available or in the works? Or is my only option to use the dri've bay?
I have been using audigy 2 zs for quite some time also and I don't remember they have any addon optical card for this sound card. Guess you have to go for the external bay.

  • How can the optical digital audio input be enabled on the 2011 Mac mini?

I am trying to record signals output from my audio receiver's digital SPDIF output.  I have a TOSLINK optical cable between the receiver's output and my MAC mini's audio input (via the TOSLINK to 3.5mm optical adapter).  Does this digital optical input need to be enabled through the OS?

Also, make sure it is showing up in System Preferences->Sound->
    Input as optical.
Also, make sure it is plugged ALL the way in.  I know on
my 2011 Mini, even with just analog plugs, it is a very
snug fit and often it feels like I have pushed in all the way
when in fact it isn't and needs an addition pretty firm push.

  • OPTICAL DIGITAL AUDIO INPUT SPECIFICATIONS

I'm trying to find out what sample rates the digital optical input will accept as OK. I have a mic preamp that has a Spidif output that can select what sampling rate it sends out. Choices are the normal 44.1, 48, & 96K and 88.2 also. The first 3 rated are industry standards. Ideally I would like to set the sample rate output from the preamp to the rate "prefered" by the early 2009 Mac Pro 8 core if there is one, but I'm unable to find any mention of sample rates used by the Mac Pro input circuit.
The reason I'm asking, is that when I try to set system preferences of sound input, There is absolutely no level indication of an incoming signal when Digital input is selected as you can see in the screen grab below:
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Ken

Thanks for the tip. I had forgotten completely about that utility. Unforntunately, it didn't shed any light on the problem.
Even though I'm a longtime music & audio addict I made the mistake of overlooking the connections making good contact. Both the Mic Preamp and the DIgital audio converter had never been used before just like the new SPDIF cable w RCA connectors. I pushed the cable in until I felt resistance but didn't realize it wasn't fully seated.
After re reviewing my previous steps taken I noticed that the Digital audio converter was not showing a valid source signal. I inspected the connection once again and found I'd made a mistake that many newbies make, not unpluging & repluging connections when chasing down a missing signal.
    Happy trails,
    Ken

  • Using MacBook Pro as Digital Optical Audio bridge...

I have an idea for my MacBook Pro, but I'd like to know if it's feasible before I go and buy what I'd need to test my plan:
I have an Xbox 360 with digital optical audio out (TOSlink), and I have a MacBook Pro with digital optical audio in (through the 3.5mm minijack on the side. So far I'm A-OK.
Now, I'd like to know if I can have the Xbox's output go into the MacBook Pro's input, and route that audio signal through the MacBook Pro to either (a) the stereo output of the MacBook Pro, or (b) (preferred) my 5.1 decoder on my Griffin FireWave.
Every time I use the Xbox, I have to unplug the audio from my speakers to the Griffin FireWave, and that's a pain because the wires are all behind my desk. If I could route the audio through my MacBook Pro, then everything would be perfect. Is this possible?
And if this isn't possible, can I use an old iMic adapter I have laying around to route the audio through the MBP?
    Thanks for your help!

I found a program called LineIn that allows 'software audio pass through in to out,' but I don't think this will pass the 5.1 channel audio through to my FireWire-connected Griffin Firewave.
Does anyone know of any way this can be done? Do you think the Audio/MIDI Setup Utility application can be of any use with this? Or is there a way to pass the digital signal straight through to the Griffin?

  • Digital Optical connections

I recently purchased a Panasonic SC-PT960 Home Theater System and a Panasonic DMP-BD35K Blu-Ray Player. I am trying to find the correct digital optical cable to connect these two components for audio. I have been searching online for a cable that has ends that look like the digital optical inputs/outputs on the components and haven't seen any that look like they will connect. The input/output connections on the components seem to have a different shape than the cables shown on this site and other sites. They almost look like a sideways U and the only cables I have found look similar to RCA cable ends. If anyone can help me out with this it would be great
    Thanks in advance.
    Brett

If they look like RCA connectors they're digital coaxial cables - in fact those ARE RCA connectors.
Digital optical cables are sometimes labeled as TOSLINK cables.  They shouldn't be that hard to find.  I know I have seen them in TGT and WM, so I'd be shocked if BB didn't have them.

  • X-Fi support digital OPTICAL SPDIF outp

From what I've been able to tell so far is that the only way to get the optical output is to spend a lot of money on the platinum version of the X-Fi. Am I wrong or is Creative being creative in manipulating their sales and their bottom line?
    Thank you.
ATTN Creative: We the consumers need an affordable X-Fi card with digital OPTICAL output without the front 5 /4 bay or the external platinum device! Space inside my PC is precious as I have a multimedia type microatx box. Get your engineers working on a solution!

I have nothing against the coaxial method, I just have mostly optical inputs in my yamaha reciever with the exeption of one thats coaxial but I believe my x-box is using that right now. Anyhow I looked all over the net for the digital kit and could not find one. I just have to ask what does creative have against them? To me it seems like their trying to skew the market towards their $400 dollar package. I don't know about you...

  • Digital(optical) Line in Problem

Hi guys, I am sending an audio feed to my digital optical input port on my Dual 2.7 G5 and am not able to monitor the feed through my internal speaker or my firewire based audio output device. Am I missing a setting somewhere?
p.s. - I can see it is receiving audio in the audio preference pane, so the problem is most likely somewhere in the software.
    THANKS!

I can confirm that Garageband can't seem to monitor the signal either.

  • How to connect Digital Optical Audio output iMac with Receiver Input

I have connected iMac with onkyo hts-3300 home theater system receiver through optical audio TosLink Cable.( http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Audio-TosLink-Cable/dp/B001ZU3G2I/ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&qid=1292865309&sr=8-2 ). Unfortunately there is no sound coming out from the Home theater system. I have verified the Receiver optical input is working fine by connecting with my TV optical audio digital out put and the it's working great. The only difference between TV and iMac is, on my TV, it has optical audio digital output and I can use this cable (http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-A102-02M-Digital-connectors/dp/B0002WPREU/ref=s r11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1297320792&sr=1-1) to make it work. I can also verified my optical audio TosLink Cable working because I can see the red light coming out from the cable. So the only problem could be from iMac. I doubt I need to change the additional setting to configure iMac to use external optical audio setting instead of the buit in audio setting. Hoe can I able to do it? or my iMac(IMAC 21.5"/3.06/2X2GB/500GB/9400M-ITP
MB950ZP/A) doesn't support optical digital audio out put? I have follow this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12769423&#12769423 and to my surprise which doesn't work out for me. I doubt that i need to change some setting, but when I got to setting>> sound I cannot change any setting. I was quite depressed aldy. Can someone answer my question as i m a newbie here. Thanks a lot

Is it possible to open this Audio Midi Setup in windows 7 enviroment also? I Just want to get the audio from my iMac in Hts-3300 onkyo home theatre. YOur help is much appreciated
@rkaufmann87 : Thank you very much for your sharing about this http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/ connection. for me what i understand is the digital audio output in airportexpress is the same as the audio out put in iMac in terms of details sepcs. So this airportexpress will only help you connect wirelessly to home theatre system, rather than waired connection. Other than that nothig much difference. So there is no point for me to spend extra bucks to attain the wireless connection. Unless the airportexpress have optical digital input, which i believe not. Correct me if I m worng, thanks
