PowerEdge R720 - Could not detect Hard Drive

I have 2 Servers PowerEdge R720, and I am trying to install windows server 2008.
I used the windows drivers, and when i got hard dive screen i did not it
please i need help

Abu-saeed,
It sounds like the issue may be that the raid driver isn't being loaded. How are you trying to load the OS, by booting to the 2008 media?
Depending on the controller you will have different driver files. If you have the H310, H710, or H710p then this is the driver you will need -  http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-r720?driverId=M20VR&osCode=WS8R2&fileId=3160710291&languageCode=en&categoryId=SF
If you are trying to load the OS through the F10 Lifecycle Controller, then this is the file you will need - http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/poweredge-r720?driverId=FF29M&osCode=WS8R2&fileId=3325054588&languageCode=EN&categoryId=DD
Let me know if this helps.

I hope someone can help me while tech support is closed. I'm doing a new build. When I fired it up the MB detects the CdRom but not the Hard Drive. I tried switching the hard drive to an old PC and it detects it fine there.

  • Logic Board Does Not Detect Hard Drive???

Problem on startup shows "Folder with (?) Mark on it". Tried to use Disk Utility but it does not detect. Replaced drive and still nothing. Use the drive as external and it boots normal. It looks like it's something else. I have order a new cable connection that goes from the logic board to the hard drive, as it's cheaper to obtain than a logic board, but lets just say that it wasnt that and there is a problem with the logic board, can I buy a "9.5 mm SATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure" to place the hard drive and boot from it? When I went into Disk Utility it did detected the DVD drive, so I know that portion of the logic board works fine. I don't use or need the DVD drive, and wondering if I can do this, it cost less than buying a logic board.
Please let me know if this is possible, Thanks in advance.

Well logic board seems faulty from the connecting point of the hard drive but not from the optical drive. Optical drive is detected by the Disk Utility, but not the hard drive, and thats why I was thinking of using the optical bay to run the machine.

  • HP dv4t not detecting hard drive, please help!

Hello, its been just a little over a year since I've bought my HP dvt, and of course the problems start as soon as my warranty has ended.. It's been working fairly fine most of the year, and then just all of a sudden while not even doing anything of importance on computer last week I got a blue screen error..
Ever since then I have had so much problems. At first it just started out with closing the screen and reopening it crashed the laptop in a couple minutes..
The main problem now is, it just does not detect the hard drive when booting up! Sometimes (rarely) it does though.. I thought it was a windows problem, so I did fresh clean install of Windows 7 and reformatted the hard drive. Then I ran CHKDSK and it did it stuff and said volume clean at the end.. It worked perfectly for a couple of hours, was able to close screen and open with no problems. I downloaded "Hard drive sentinel" to monitor my hdd health, and it said 90% which is apparently excellent. Yet as I was installing adobe reader, it crashed, got the blue screen of death and has not been able to boot up since
Can anyone tell what is the problem with it? Anyone else have similar problem? I've tried to reformat again with CD but it doesnt even recognize any drive to install on..
Important thing to note is that, in the BIOS screen when i run the HARD DISK TEST, it does recognize it! So i dont understand why it doesn't load the operating system or cant see the hard drive anywhere else!!
What is at fault even? Is the motherboard dead? Althought the bios screen loads fine so does that mean its OK? Is it the hard drive? CHKDSK and the hdd health monitor thing said it was ok right before the crashes..
Please help, I have my first computer science lab in like 2 days with my laptop breaking just a couple days before it with barely any money left to buy a new laptop

Time to replace your Hard Drive. BACK UP NOW!!!
This will be the 3rd HD in a new HP HDX 18 for me (6 months old).
Open up the HD bay and take a look at the model of the HD.
If it is a SEAGATE MOMENTUS 7200.4  they are known to fail in as little as 1 month from install, and do not last more than 6 months.
Google the brand and you will see that most people are reccomending that you remove the SEAGATE product ASAP (data recovery is next to impossible) and replace it with something else.
I had just finished setting up the PC as I wanted it, OS, programs / Bios, software upgrades, then without warning the 2nd HD went.
I lost EVERYTHING in my C drive, was just preparing to do a full BU and Mirror Image after deleting both from my D and External Drive.
HP is replacing one piece of crap with another, I will be shopping for a different brand for the C drive after the laptop comes back from repair.
There seems to be no end to this BS with SEAGATE drives.
    DO A FULL BU NOW!!!

  • Will not detect hard drive

I am trying to help out a friend who bought an Ultra2 board (no raid) on my suggestion...it will not see the hard drive.  I have tried 3 different hard drives and different cables.  This is the second board he has ordered with the same problem and he has also replaced the RAM.
    HELP!!

As you said "When entering the BIOS the screen goes blank for at least 30 seconds before the BIOS is displayed", can you check what is shown in the D-Bracket? Btw, did you enable/disable the RAID?
Please check the jumper on the WD hdd. Set it to Cable Select and try again with the mobo on all IDE channels, including the RAID IDE too. If BIOS can't detect it, maybe RAID will. You may also try with jumper at MASTER and SLAVE. Also, just try with this single HDD without any CDROM or CDRW attached. There must be something you can set/configure to get it work if the HDD is not faulty.
If the HDD work standalone in the IDE Channel, then add in the CDROM and CDRW one by one. If problem reappear, then the most suspect is the power supply unit. If from everything you have tried and the HDD can't work, oh well.....

  • Finder will not detect hard drive; disk utility will

Finder will not detect my hard drive.  Disk utility will, however, it will not eject the harddrive from the computer.  Any help?
I have a lot of files on it, so I would not be happy if they cannot be retrieved.  It has been working for the past 2(?) years without much issue.

    SilverSkyRat wrote:
Have you checked the manufacturer's web site for any firmware updates for the drive?
In Disk Utility, select the drive and click Repair Disk. If any errors are displayed, rerun Repair Disk until no errors occur.
You can't run repair disk while booted from the disk to be repaired.
Boot from Recovery, then run Repair Disk.

    Hi,
what may cause a K8N Neo4 Platinum to not detect an IDE hard drive? no matter what i try the mobo never sees the hard drive.

    welcome to the forum
    1) What Hard drive - size & make
    2) How connected - By itself as Master or slave.
    3) What other ide devices.
it's a lot easier when u post some specs & we can quit the guessing games.

My M30x has the same problem. I just have used it for 2 months.

  • Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy card on your system

    Hi from Barcelona!
I've a Soun Blaster Audigy card (Model: SB0090)
I tried to install the Audigy software and drivers from the original product CD but Setup was unable to find Augigy hardware and halted the installation!
"Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster card on your system. Please ensure that your Sound Blaster hardware is properly installed before running this Setup program"
By the way. Manually the sound drivers can be installed working only front speakers of the 5. Creative system
I tried a clean installation of Windows XP and Windows 2000 PRO (reformatted the hard dri've) but Audigy install CD still could not find Audigy hardware.
I've changed the card to a different PCI slot with the same results!!! Damaged?
What is happening? I need a solution!! Many users have this problem to with other Sound Blaster cards and models...

    ADSLNEW wrote:
It seems to be an important BUG of Creative Sound Blaster Audigy cards related with EEPROM!!!
Yes, indeed, that is my theory as well. After much ****hing and on-line research, it seems that this problem has been around since 2002. From Creative Labs point of view, it appears they view this as "pilot error" -- the user has installed the card in a system that is not fully compliant with the latest standards -- specifically Microsofts ACPI (configuration and power management). A wide variety of configurations and/or actions seem to cause the PCI subsystem ID in the Audigy EEPROM to be erroneously overwritten -- including certain older motherboards, certain older PCI cards, and perhaps other actions.
Once the subsystem ID in the EEPROM is overwritten and has garbage information, many or all of the Creative applications cease working and various sound problems can arise. Attempts to reinstall the driver or update to the latest driver consistently fail becuase of the dreaded "Setup could not detect any Sound Blaster Audigy card in your system..." error message.
There appear to be four fixes:
) Get a replacement Audigy card from Creative, but <EM>only</EM> after you perform their prescribed troubleshooting steps to prove that the card is indeed the source of the problem. Apparently, the steps include installing the card in another PC. Apparently, Creative in Europe is more willing to replace your card than Creative in the US. It's up to Creative Labs whether or not they issue you an RMA ("Return Material Authorization").
However, this fix will fail if the root causes of the EEPROM error are not corrected. Apparently, Creative Tech Support isn't always a foolproof source of guidance, so the burden is on you. The root cause MUST be corrected before the new card is installed, or the same problem will happen all over again. Eliminating the root cause may involve replacing your motherboard, replacing other PCI cards, or manual configuration (disabling ACPI).
    2) Reprogramming the EEPROM. This is for advanced PC owners only, because it involves desoldering the EEPROM, programming it, and resoldering (and even lifting some pins to prevent reprogramming). There are instructions on how to do this posted in the German Creative Labs discussion board, by a Russian (!). I have links for those who are interested.
    3) Removing the Creative drivers and software (using Clean Sweep procedures and third party utilities), updating again using Windows XP SP2, then physically moving the card to different PCI slots (multiple times if necessary), until ACPI Bios writes the proper information into the EEPROM. You can then reload the drivers.
Again, the root causes of the problem must be removed or your fix will only be temporary (a day or two). This solution also seems to be very dependent on the specifics of your system (motherboard, PCI cards, etc.).
    4) Some people have had success in by-passing the step in the driver installation process where they check for the Audigy card subsystem ID, using a utility called CTZAPxx on the installation CD. Then then manually install each of the applications they need to use.
    5) Use the open source driver from the kX Project (http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php). This driver (and associated utilities) does not depend on the detailed configuration of the card (i.e. they don't check subsystem ID) and appear to work fine even with cards with corrupted EEPROM.
This driver is aimed primarily at computer music applications, and opens up the on-card signal processing capabilities. The downside is that the Audigy 2 ZS does not have all of it's capabilities supported <EM>yet </EM>(e.g. Dolby Digital decoding, S/PIF passthrough, possibly some game sound features, THX, 24-bit recording, support for Hyperthreading CPUs, etc.). But scanning over the discussion boards, the user community seems to be MUCH happier with the performance and support associated with these drivers than with Creative's.
This is the direction I'm going. I'm not a big gamer and I don't really care about the latest in home theater audio performance. Basic 5. surround sound is all I care about, and I'm much more interested in computer music capabilities.
I have also lost faith in Creative Labs as a vendor to provide the support I want and need going forward. Just imagine if the Creative Labs were running the Space Shuttle program :smileysurprised:.

  • Could not detect Sound Blaster Audio Card on xp sp2 Sys

I have Audigy Platinum and trying to install to a recently re-installed windows xp sp2 system. On my previous install everything was working fine and now I am looking to install the newest drivers and the error comes up [color="#ff3300">"could not detect Sound Blaster Audio Card on system". The strange thing is windows recognizes the card and will install it's drivers, but when I go to install the latest driver update I get the error. In addition, I also tried to run the install from my original disk.
I also?un-installed the devices showing? in the windows device manager, then tried and the same error, I even tried it in safe mode. Any ideas? Thanks and Advance,Mikel

Yes i think the real lesson here is not to buy creative,. i have the same problem with their junky card, so i guess ill just have to take buisness somewhere else. if you all do the same perhaps the threat of them going out of buisness will have them deal with their problems. if not atleast we saved others the headache of learning this lesson.

    Hejssan
I think you understand english good enough (som ni alla svenskar brukar g?ra (b?ttre ?n vi finskar i alla fall)) so I just give a link to another thread on this forum.
This issue you're having, is quite common for Creative Audigy carrds (perhaps with OEM models mostly) if you just search this forum.
You can use those instructions to get some drivers installed to your card. Install drivers first and then all the Creative software you need.
You need WinRar being installed into your system to get driver package extracted. You can download it from http://www.winrar.de/edownload/winrar.html

  • NTKERN.VXD could not load device driver

I just installed the MSI 6380LE board with an AMD 2100+ CPU.  I have the nVIDIAGe2 Ti video card.  Two problems.  When I restarted the computer after transfering my WD 20Gb HD, Phillips CD-RW, and SMC lan card to my computer it went thru the New Hardware sequence.  No problems there.  My printer was detected on the USB port in the back.  However, when I went to print, got a cannot communicate with printer error from my Lexmark printer program.   I went to my device manager and noticed that the following occurred:
VIA VT83C572/VT82C586 PCI to USB Universal Host
    ---> USB Root Hub!
This is repeated three times in the device manager.
When I click on properties for the USB Root Hub it tells me that the NTKERN.VXD could not load device driver.
Second issue.  I have a new case that has front USB ports, however, the pin connectors are all separated and I am not sure how to hook them up to the MB correctly as I did not notice in the manual the pin assignments for those connectors.  ANY help is greatly appreciated.  And yes, USB is enabled for all in my BIOS setup.
    Thanks in advanc!!!

well I did the same thing with my KT3 Ultra ARU, but it works fine other than the low system stability and generally slow behavior of the HDD's since they were not optimized for this board.. but generally everything works fine, but I will need to reload windows in order to have everything moving smoothly again, plus when you do reload windows you will notice a definite speed increase, and if is generally a good idea to back up your important files and do a clean install ever so often, Most IT techs reinstall their OS's every 6-8 months.
