Powerhsell progress bar during an operation

Hi,
Id like to try and use the progress bar features from
New-Object
System.Windows.Forms.ProgressBar
but I can't find any examples on how to use this during an operation.
I have a command which I use to create a CSV file with various user information..
Get-QADUser -sizelimit 0 | export-csv c:\pathtocsv.csv
what i'd like to do is get the progress bar to be displayed in a separate form whilst the operation from get-qaduser is performed.
any help appreciated - thanks
Denis

Hi Denis,
your progress-bar form has a property named value (which takes an integer value. Set it to 40 and you get 40% progress on your bar).
The thing is, in order to calculate the percentage you are at, you need to know the maximum number, the current number
and find a way to write it during runtime.
And if I tried it, my boss would tell me to spend my time more usefully (If he caught me at it, that is).
Good luck if you go for it (and if there's a simple way that has eluded me: I'll be happy to learn a bit more :) )
Cheers,
Fred

  • Progress bar during upload....

    Hi guys,
    i'm a question....
    i've developed an upload function in my jsf application using Myfaces component FileUpload.
    It works very well.
    My question is:does exists something i can add to my upload function to view a progress bar during upload without using Ajax component that gives me some problems?
    Thanks very much

    iloveflex,
    why not use the progress event of the FileReference object?
    Have a look at the Adobe language help for FileReference and you
    will see that the one-line help for this event is "Dispatched
    periodically during the file upload or download operation". The
    example code at the end of that help article gives an example of
    using this event to print out bytes so far and total bytes in the
    trace window. You should be easily able to adapt this to display in
    some other way sutiable for your users.

  • Display progress bar during silent install?

    Hello everybody,
    as the silent installation takes up to several minutes, it would be useful to display a progress bar during the installation. Is there a parameter which allows to enable such a progess window during the installation?
    Thanks for any ideas.

    The progress bar means the system is Auto booting to Safe Mode, not a good sign.
    The reasons it is Auto Booting into Safe mode can vary but more then likely it is either a hard drive problem, failing hard drive, or a corrupted hard drive. I would save all your personal files, data, to an external drive and start over by erasing the complete drive and reinstalling the OS and all your programs. Then copy your data back to the drive. If it happens again then it means the drive is starting to fail and needs to be replaced.

  • No Progress Bar during file transfering

    Hey everyone,
    I'm using MAc 10.5.8 and when I transfer data, the progress bar is not appearing anymore. Is there any way that i might have accidentally deleted files for that by using CleanMyMac and if so is there any way to get the progress bar back?
    Thanks in advance!

    One thing you could try is to reboot in Safe Mode:

  • No progress bar during audio encoding

    Since the lack of a progress bar causes many users to think that iDVD has frozen (and forces us to resort to look into the package contents to see if this is the case,) I think that anyone who has had this problem should post a feedback enhancement request to Apple so they realize how important a feature this is.

    I filed a report and I'll bet a lot of other Apple users have filed a report. In Dec. 2005, Apple released a bulletin on this encoding problem - their solution was to just wait it out.
    A recent post in this forum indicated that the person called Apple Care and received the standard answer - wait it out.
    In case you haven't read the other posts, you can do one of the following:
    1. From iMovie - export as a Quicktime movie, then reload into a new iMovie project OR.
    2. Export iMovie to a video camera and then reload back into a new iMovie project.
    These work arounds combine the added audio to the existing video clips so when you reinsert the movie into iMovie, audio and video are combined. Then insert chapter markings, export to iDVD and you'll have your burned DVD in an hour or less - depending on your Mac's horsepower.

  • No Progress Bar during file transfer

    after installing yosemite recently, when i move a file to and from an external drive, i do not get the transfer bar that shows the progress of the move. any help fixing this? I have tried deleting the "com.apple.finder.plist" from library (& restarted) and repairing permissions. when i go to a different (clean) user account, i can get the progress bar when i move files.

  • No Progress Bar During Wi-Fi File Transfer ?

    Got my new macbook and my old mac mini sharing and tried to copy a movie from one to the other......no progress bar......looked like it was hung up so I quit....should there be a progress bar ?

    ..and exactly how fast should it be ? Like copying from one part of HD to another ? Or like downloading on dialup ?

  • Progress bar during startup - Odd Issue

    What's the problem:
    Upon startup my iMac (early 2009, Mountain Lion) shows a grey progress bar that takes approx. 20 Minutes to complete and then the machine shuts down.
    What have I done before the issue occured:
    Cleaning up cache files and deleting several programms that I wasn't using any more.
    What's the setup of my machine:
    I have one physical harddrive that contains 3 logical partitions: One is of course the Macintosh HD (HFS+), one for data (HFS+), and one Bootcamp (FAT32) partition.
    What have I tried so far:
    When booting into Single User mode I ran the fsck (and fsck_hfs) command which quits after 3 unsuccessfull attempts. The only error message shown is
    "Incorrect Number Of Thread Records (4, someNumber)". I tried this at least 10 times now and the behaviour is always the same, except from the number shown in the thread records message.
    When booting into the recovery partition disk utility shows me the 3 partitions on my HD but shows the Macintosh HD greyed out. When checking the HD it finished without problems, when just checking the Macintosh HD it aborts with an error. Same applies when I try to fix the partition.
    I tried to reinstall Mac OS but the Macintosh HD is not shown in the target disks for installation. I also tried to repartition the disk without any success.
    What's odd about this issue:
    First of all, I can boot into Windows (BootcamP) without any issues and work there.
    Also, when in singel user mode, I can run the 'du' command which shows me all files on my Macintosh HD so the partition itself still sems to be intact.
    What might be a solution:
    I've have come along some comments that said DiskWarrior could fix more issues then Disk Utility but I not yet there to spend 100+ € for it.
    Any other suggestions from you on how to get Mac OS back to work would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks for your replies and proposed solutions. Unfortunately none of them worked.
    @Alberto: Pressing the "D" button upon startup, does not launch the hardware test. Actually nothing realy happens for approx. 60 seconds before the machine starts the boot volume.
    @Linc: I'm not able to erase the OS X boot volume as disk utility tells me it's missing it's mount point.
    @romainst: As far as I remember I was still under 10.8.2. So far I have tried to repair the OS X partition at least 25 times without any changes or a chance to get this thing mounted.
    I wouldn't mind erasing the Mac OS partition and reinstalling it as it only holds systems files and some applications that I could easily reinstall. Still the machine is preventing me from doing so as it will not let me mount this partition. This is becoming increasingly frustrating as the only way out seems to erase the entire HD and start over from scratch - if this is possible at all. Despite the time wasted I would also loose some of my data on the respective partition as I don't have a backup for the entire data partition.

  • Deep Sleep - Is it normal to show a grey progress bar during boot?

    I've just downloaded the Deep Sleep widget from Axionic Labs. So far, it works wonderfully.
    I really like the idea of Deep Sleep. No power consumption, quick boot and same state it was before Deep Sleeping.
    However, I noticed that when I power my MBP on (after Deep Sleeping) it shows the grey boot screen with a grey bar below being filled. Actually, it's several small grey bars being filled.
    Is it normal to show those grey bars when your MBP is booting after a deep sleep?
    Here's a photo that I took of it: http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/2039/dsc00787uz.jpg

    davidcmc wrote:

  • Show Progress Bar while Accessing data from Server

    Hi,
    I need a Progress bar to be displayed when my application triggers database to backup, As the data would be large progress bar makes sense to display the time span.
    I need a progress bar in place to show the progress of the task,
    Can anyone suggest me how to do this? This should be shown when i backup my database from WPF.
    I have code written for server side and just need a progress bar and timer.
    Thanks,
    Shreyas M

    You could use a BackgroundWorker. There is a complete code sample available on MSDN here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc221403(v=vs.95).aspx. You do the long-running work, i.e. the actual backup, in the DoWork event handler.
    Note that you will need to report the progress (by calling the ReportProgress method of the BackgroundWorker) and calculate the total time it will take to complete the backup operation yourself.
    It might be easier to just display some "waiting" element and no progress bar during the time it takes for the operation to complete:
    <!-- replace this with any element like for example an Image -->
    <TextBlock x:Name="loadingElement" Visibility="Collapsed">please wait...</TextBlock>
    loadingElement.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Visible;
    System.Threading.Tasks.Task.Factory.StartNew(() =>
    //call your backup method here (this code is being run on a background thread....
    .ContinueWith((t) =>
    loadingElement.Visibility = System.Windows.Visibility.Collapsed;
    }, System.Threading.CancellationToken.None, TaskContinuationOptions.None, TaskScheduler.FromCurrentSynchronizationContext());
    After all you probably don't know how long time it will take for the method to complete, right? If you want to display a ProgressBar, the backup method should report the progress somehow. If you just call a method and wait for it to complete, you have no
    idea of how long time it will take for the method to return. You will then have to estimate the actual time and then increase the value of the progress bar accordingly.
    There is no way to find out before hand exactly how long time it will take until a method returns so it is the responsibility of the (backup) method to report to the caller how long time it needs and how long time is left until it is done. Far from all API:s
    support reporting progress.
    As you see in the BackgroundWorker example on MSDN, you could call the ReportProgress once in each iteration of a loop but if there is no loop in your Backup method you better just display a busy indicator without a progress bar since you don't know anything
    about the progress anyway.
    Edit: You could of course also display a ProgressBar element with its IsIndeterminate set to True. Just replace the TextBlock and use the sample code above:
    <ProgressBar x:Name="loadingElement" IsIndeterminate="True" Height="50"/>
    Setting this property to true is useful when you don't know how long time the operation will take:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.progressbar.isindeterminate(v=vs.110).aspx
    Hope that helps.

  • SAP BPC 7.5 Client, Silent install but with progress bar, can it be done?

    Hi All,
    I need to uninstall the BPC 7 Client and then deploy 7.5 to around 250 users accross the country.
    We have SCCM (SMS) in place so will be using that.
    I have the uninstall of 7 sorted and I have the response file etc sorted for the silent install of 7.5 and the install runs, silently, no issue.
    Is there a way though that one can "turn on" the progress bar during the install? So that users dont shutdown or disconnect in the 15min it takes the install to run.
    By way of example, in the SAP Business objects enterprise client on can configure the Silent install so that although it never prompts the user for a reponse there is a progress bar that runs, indicating that there is an install in progress.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bryan

    Hi Sebastian,
    No worries, I am using a pop up countdown so the users have some idea on progress. Would love to know why the install runs for over 15min.
    In the above case the uninstall was easy as we had deployed using MS AppV so it was just a case of deleting the advert in SCCM and the application was pulled from the users desktops.
    For 7.5 I am using a vbscript with following to uninstall:
    The install string pulled from the clients registry uninstall folder:
    RunCommand Chr(34) & "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{EC8753EF-EE78-48B5-A4D0-FBBD237B5D53}\setup.exe" & Chr(34) & " -runfromtemp -l0x0009UNINSTALL -removeonly"
    We create a custom link, so this deletes it.
    DeleteFile "c:\Users\Public\Desktop\SAP BPC 7.5.lnk"
    You should be able to create something similar for 7.0 & 7.1
    Hope that helps,
    Bryan

  • Progress bar with AJAX ?

    Hi all,
    I have a quite long application process running ... I would like to display a progress bar during the task, but the following doesn't work (it works well if I dont use AJAX) :
    function myFunction() {
    // The css "display" property of this element is set to "none" initially
    // IDProgressBarRegion contains the progress bar in gif format
    document.getElementById('IDProgressBarRegion').style.display = 'block';
    var ajaxRequest = new htmldb_Get(null,&APP_ID.,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=myProcess',0);
    ajaxResult = ajaxRequest.get();
    if(ajaxResult) {
    // do something here
    document.getElementById('AjaxLoading').style.display = 'none';
    ajaxRequest = null;
    }

    Hello,
    Instead of the the standard .get() method which is synchronous and locks up the browser display, your going to want to use the asynchronous method of the htmldb_Get() object there is an example here,
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=11933:62
    For long running on demand process's this is what your going to want to use.

  • No Progress bar while transferring files....

    Still no Progress Bar during send of files via Skype 7.6

    For anyone interested, I figured out that if you have a sound file selected in the Finder, if you hit the space bar it opens up a separate "play" window. This gives me what I want, which is a progress bar to play the sound from any specific point. It's not quite as intuitive and easy as in Tiger but it does the trick.

  • Progress Bar visibility issue

    I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to components, but I'm
    hoping there's an easy answer that I'm simply missing.
    I have 4 nested files, the first and third of which are files
    that contain sections of loadable content (menu pages,
    essentially). I've followed some simple tutorials about how to make
    the progress bars disappear once a file completely loads and all
    seemed to be working fine when I previewed the third file (a
    sub-menu) in the chain, but when I previewed the first file (the
    main menu), the progress bars that were working as they should the
    third file are still visible once its respective files load.
    The error only seems to take place in the first file and only
    in relaton to the progress bars in the third file, although the
    parameters and actionscript for all the progress bars follow the
    same formula. Is there a reason why a progress bar that disappears
    in one file remains visible in a file further up the chain and if
    so, is there any way to correct this?

    Do While Me.txtProgress.Width <> FullLength
        Me.txtProgress.Width = Me.txtProgress.Width + 25
        PercentComplete = (Me.txtProgress.Width / FullLength) * 100
        Me.txtStatus.Caption = PercentComplete & " % Complete"
        Call Pause(Timing)
    Loop
    If Me.txtProgress.Width = FullLength Then
        Me.CmdClose.Enabled = True
    End If
        retval = SysCmd(acSysCmdSetStatus, "Connecting to previous Database")
    For Each tdf In dbs.TableDefs
        If tdf.Connect <> "" Then
        tdf.Connect = ";DATABASE=" & strDatabaseName & (";PWD=zujan")
        tdf.RefreshLink
    End If
        Next tdf
    Screen.MousePointer = 0
    Hi Anuj,
    What I see in your code is that you first have your progress bar run from 0 to 100%, and after that step through the TableDefs to connect.
    I assume you want to increase the progress bar during the connecting process. So you have to merge the two loops. First you count the total number of TableDefs (your 100%), and then increment Me.txtProgress.Width for each tdf in equal steps.
    Instead of building the progress bar on "each" form, you could also make a dedicated progress bar form. At the start of a loop you open the form, and assign the form to an variable of type form (e.g. progr_form):  Set progr_form = Forms("Progress_form").
    This form has the control txtProgress to display the progress bar, a (hidden) control with the maximum number of steps, and a (hidden) control with the current number of executed steps. After the update of this latter control (e.g. progr_form!CurrentCount
    = x), the width of the progress bars is recalculated. After finishing the loop, the form is closed.
    The advantage of a dedicated progress bar form is that you can use the same form for quite different progress displays, under quite different circumstances.

  • Progress bar conditional issue

    hi,
    I'm using the following code to two things. First, progress bar and second, database connection. Both process are working fine but, not simultaneously.
    Code:
    ================
    On Error GoTo Err_cmdDisconnect_Click
        Dim dbs As DAO.Database
        Dim tdf As DAO.TableDef
        Dim strMessage As String, strDatabaseName As String
        Dim retval
        Dim FullLength As Integer
        Dim PercentComplete As Integer
        Dim Timing As String
    Set dbs = CurrentDb()
    strDatabaseName = CurrentProject.Path & "\BE\" & Dbase
    If IsNull(Dbase) Then
        MsgBox ("Please select the database."), , "Error"
        Me.Dbase.SetFocus
    Exit Sub
    End If
        strMessage = "Are you sure to connect " & _
        strDatabaseName & " as the Auto Evolution database?"
    If MsgBox(strMessage, vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Connection Confirmation") = vbNo Then
    Exit Sub
    End If
    If Dir(strDatabaseName) = "" Then
        MsgBox "The Auto Evolution database you have specified as the " & _
        "source was not found.", vbInformation, "Connection Error"
    Exit Sub
    End If
    DoCmd.Hourglass True
    'Declare timing
    Timing = 0.01
    'Declare the maximum length of the progress bar
    FullLength = 8050
    'Hourglass
    Screen.MousePointer = 11
        'Remove transparancy of progress bar
    If Me.txtProgress.Width <> 0 Then
        Me.txtProgress.BackStyle = 1

            "'" & Me.Dbase & "'", vbInformation, "Connection Successful"
    DoCmd.Close acForm, Me.NAME
    Exit_cmdConnect_Click:
        Exit Sub
    Err_cmdConnect_Click:

    Any help will be appreciable.
