Powering laptop on International travel

Hello, I just bought a new Macbook & I wanted to know what do I need to get power or charge the battery during the flight. I will be flying on AA MD-80 (DC power ports) and on Cathay Pacific 747 (AC or EMpower) according to seatguru.com
Thanks for any assistance.
macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Hey. For the AA MD-80, you'll need an inverter. (Technical details behind this: the MacBook requires 16.5VDC input, and the DC power outlet on an airplane/car is only 12VDC. Because DC power cannot be directly stepped up/down you need to first convert it to AC power, then back to DC power, this time at the desired voltage. Thus, you need an inverter). The good news is that inverters can be pretty cheap: I got a 75W inverter for $20 (but, make sure that the inverter is rated for AT LEAST -- if not more -- 65W CONTINUOUS power. Otherwise it could get too hot and catch on fire). Now all I have to do to power the macbook in the car/plane is plug the magsafe adapter into the inverter, which plugs into the DC power outlet.
For the 747, I checked out seatguru.com. It says that EMpower is 15VDC, so that is not enough for the MacBook. The AC power looks fine, though (it has the right plug configuration, voltage, frequency, etc). All you have to do is bring your magsafe adapter and plug it into the plug.
Happy travels!

You can export ONLY Camera Roll photos and videos.

Sign in to iTunes Store (on desktop itunes) with your ID. Plug your iphone to itunes, right click on it and choose transfer purchases.Right click again and choose backup. Then you can sync with iTunes.

Your conversations will not deleted if you sync with your iTunes.
What is the problem with iCloud? iCloud has nothing to do with iTunes syncing.

  • Some question about International Travel

Ok so i know alot of people have question about international travel weather is USA to Canada, Canada to USA or where ever.
So i just got off the phone with someone from AT&T these are my questions for them. i hope it can help, im confuse myself.
*1. I travel recently travel to canada a few weeks ago, when i cross the boarder i switch the data roaming ON and it picks up Rogers Wireless, a few days ago i try i again it said NO SERVICE is something wrong with my iPad?*
NO, consider yourself lucky u didnt get charge for that roaming, your ipad well not work out of the US unless u buy one of our International plans that AT&T has provided. The reason for this is so you wont have any unwanted charge or high charge on your bill.
*2. If i was to buy a sim card from Canada and pop it in to my US ipad well it work?*
Honestly that's something you can try at your own risk, it's design for AT&T so by switching sim cards it may affect your ipad such as running slow, virus, crash. You can try it, i dont work for Rogers so i know nothing about them, i work for AT&T so i can only tell you about our plans and i wont lie to you.(I THINK U JUST DID) This ipad is not unlock just like the iphone so it well only work with AT&T.
*3. If i pop my sim card out and put in an international sim card well it affect my plan at all or in any way?*
Yes it can, right now your on the unlimited plan if you put in a different sim card and then re-put in ur AT&T one chances are you're going to loose your unlimited plan and have to settle for the newer plan. That's why AT&T has reduce it's international plans so people are more likely to use it. It's a contract we sign with Apple, if u want to use in canada you can always buy an Ipad in canada and use their plan. (***)
At the end of this conversion i was just more angry with them. All in all she told bottom line is dont do anything stick with AT&T and pay for international plans. So i have to pay over price data plan if i want to use it intertanional? or i have to buy an ipad for each international places i go to?
Has anyone try or done any of the 3 ive mention and did it affect ur plan or ipad in anyway?
    Thanks
    Andy

Ok so here's a little more info
I called AT&T again today asking them the same question the guy was more helpful then the one yesterday. Even though he kinda told me the same saying that the ipad need to be unlock. , Afterward he transfer me someone from Apple. The lady told me
    1. The ipad is UNLOCK so dont bother trying to get it unlock.
    2. she doesnt see why sticking in another sim card from one of the apple ipad carrier is a problem. U would just have to sign up activated it like u would when u first got it.
    3. Contact phone company (my case Rogers) to see if they carry the mico sim cards.
    4. She doesnt see why it would affect the current plan u have now.
So at the end of all that she told me, seem like AT&T is just telling you, you cant do this or u shouldnt do that is simple THEY WANT YOU TO USE THEIR PLANS.
so with that i said i just want to let everyone know. I'm gonna go pick my Micro sim cards from Canada in a bit and sign up for thier plan we'll keep everyone updated if anything change or how it work

    Verizon uses CDMA.
The rest of the world uses GSM.
The wifi will work, if you find a hotspot.
The 3G will not, unless south Korea moves to Europe.

  • International Travel Request Project Help..urgent..

    Hi,
Our project is International travel request. Wat we planned to do is, to select from and to locations we are displaying 2 world maps one for selection of from field and the other is for to.
So i have downloaded world map illustrater file... how can i use that map to give links to the countries and map to the corresponding from and to fileds..?
    Thanks in advance.

I suggest you look at implementing the Google Map api its really easy to setup. It would save untold hours of work and you have virtually absolute control over it.  I did a custom map solution before Google API was available for Action Script and I'll never do that again.

  • International travel tips

Any international travel tips for the iPhone I should know about.  I know to take the Roaming off,but anything else?

    Where are you going?
Ask you carrier to unlock your phone.
Get a local SIM card, it makes life really easy for looking up information/maps on the go. Plus, it's cheaper.

  • International travel and multiple-day events with time zones

I can't see how I can set an international travel easily as one event, e.g. from 2010-01-11 20:30:00+11:00 to 2010-01-11 07:10-10:00. I can set both as in one Time Zone, but that is not what I want. I want to set as my itinerary from a travel agent says, e.g. the start and end in different Time Zones. Although I can enter the departure and arrival as two events, that is not what I want to do. The air travel is one event, not two.
Also, I often want to set schedules for multiple-day international meetings using the local time of the meetings while my iCal is still in my own Time Zone, but this is not possible. As soon as I select All Day in a new event, the Time Zone option disappears. Of course, I can change my iCal Preferences to use the target Time Zone (instead of my local one) and then set the meeting schedule, but this is not what I want to do. I want to be able to select a different Time Zone for multiple-day events while I am in my own Time Zone.
These are rather common problems in any internatioanl businesses I suspect. It would be really handy to tie iCal with travel itinerary applications. If this is possible, I also would be able to get the information directly from travel agents in iCal format and it is a great potential for developing such applications.
Does anyone know whether these are possible in iCal or whether Apple may be working on it?
I also can't find a Feature Request for Apple, to ask about it. Does anyone know where to find it?
    Thanks.

I just didn't get the context here. Do you want to display multiple rows within one Outlook calendar event? If yes, I think it's impossible.
Please reattach the sample which will be very helpful for others to understand your requirement, then possibly provide a solution.

  • Should you choose Verizon for international travel?

Background: My wife and left for Italy for a bicycle and sightseeing tour. We arrived on  June 26th and hoped to communicate using the international plan. We understood that we could not use data due to expense but hoped to keep in contact when bicycle riding by using Verizon services. There was a problem with the activation of my wifes phone so I called customer service on the 28th. It was explained to me that there was a tremendous back log so after an hour and a half on the phone I hung up. Naturally I did not want to use my vacation time on hold with Verizon. The next day after a half hour the worldwide tech people updated her plan. The phone worked that evening but the next day it was in the android mode. Could not use phone for communication or for photos...not to worry the Verizon team would come through...On the 30 it was explained to me that the phone was inoperable but Verizon would have a phone waiting for wife when we returned on the July 9 th. The uptake was that we could not use the phone for communication or photos.
When I returned to United States I contacted customer service and explained the situation. Customer service was very polite but policy dictated...Verizon would reverse international charges on my wifes phone but not my phone. The reasoning for this request was that Verizon greatly impacted my vacation by not allowing me to communicate with my wife when touring and she could not take photos for three quarters of vacation. I do not believe that this is an unreasonable request.
The topper is there was no phone here when we arrived. Again tech services were very polite but policy dictates. I could not pick up a phone at a local store and I would have to pay $12.95 for overnight shipping. I explained that I thought this was unreasonable because it was Verizon's fault but policy dictates.
What I learned is that Verizon policy is not customer centered but profit centered. Verizon talks the talk customer service but does not walk the walk.
If you choose to Verizon for international travel make sure you have a back up plan and do not expect customer support

  • Trophy data connection lost after international travel on GSM

There is a discussion going on at Windows Phone Central regarding the loss of data or 3G connectivity on the Trophy after returning from international travel where the Trophy is used with a SIM card on a GSM network. http://forums.wpcentral.com/trophy/182373.htm
It seems that this is a different flavor of the issue people have had using the HTC Connection app. In any event, the only remedy is to factory reset the phone when you get back from overseas, or, using Zune, revert to a backup, which means pre-Mango, then update to Mango again.
If anyone else is having this issue please make noise to Verizon and HTC so they get on it and solve it. Yes, the Trophy works overseas, but you should not have to factory reset your phone every time you get back.

Ditto. Just spent 10 days inTurkey & Germany. Trophy data & voice worked flawlessly overseas on GSM. Returned to US, no 3G data. Spent 2 hrs. with tech support and six different technical types, each supposedly having “deeper access” into Verizon’s systems, all to no avail. Each tech seemed to be working off the same flow chart because we went through the same series of useless questions with no resolution to the issue.
Ultimate solution – hard factory reset. This either needs to be a Trophy or Mango issue as wife’s iPhone 4S had no issues either abroad or upon return.
How can you advertise the Trophy as a “global” phone when you need to do a hard reset every time you come back to the States? Undocumented “feature”??? Come on Verizon, either fix it or give us phones that work!

  • IPod firewire charger and international travel

I have the Apple firewire charger (model A1070) and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's dual voltage capable for international travel? My digi cam and other chargers all say that they are, so they just need a simple plug adapter, but this charger only says 0.4A Max input.
I was hoping to use my same basic plug adapter for the iPod too, without having to buy the travel kit from Apple for $35.
    Thanks!

I've used mine overseas (Scotland, Spain) without any problems.

  • Transaction failed on 16 Feb 2015 but Money debited from International travel currency card

    Hello Lenovo,
during her short trip to US, my Wife tried to order Lenovo laptop ' Lenovo Flex2 -14 inch - Black' from Lenovo official site on 16 feb 2015 from Houston, Texas area but got declined transaction with no transation number generated citing reason as "Unuthorized transaction".
The amount 535.18 USD was deducted from the Travel currency card (VISA verified) immediately.
After contacting Lenovo, they cited the reason in mail that they do not accept international credit card and thus order can not be processed .
Now when we contacted the Bank (indian branch who issued the travel currency card), they asked us to send the mail communication regarding failure of transaction to be communicated to them to revert the transacted money.
But recently they informed that they can not reverse the money until we present a official communication from Lenovo with clear mention of  failed tranaction with :
    Credit Card details
    Transaction amount
Can you please direct me to the right set of department who can help us with the above mentioned issue and details required?
We have been chasing the issue for last 1 and half month but  there is no satisfactory response from any party yet.
Also sent mail to 'Lenovo customer care' but no repsonse yet even after sending periodic reminders.
    Please help.

    Ceb,
You are assuming that there was actually a charge made and you are giving advice that may honestly just not be helpful to the user.
First, we do not intent customers to make purchases cross country - buy on US site and ship elsewhere.   We clearly say that it must be a US issued credit card.  The only international cards accepted are American Express, and if shipping to a Non-US address the order might still be canceled.  (most likely would be).
Lenovo DOES NOT charge a credit card until we ship.   However, there is a Charge Hold placed on the card as part of the order process to ensure there is adequate credit available for authorization.  Charge holds typically drop off in several days.  If you check your balance, the charge hold can appear as a charge because it decriments the available balance.
Lenovo did not take funds from the customer, so advising customers to issue disputes through their CC card company is just not a helpful / constructive course of action.
In a perfect world, the process would determine when the pending order qualifies all other criteria before proceeding to the charge hold stage.  If the process could be changed in that manner, orders could be rejected without triggering the charge hold and leading the customer to being believed that their order was canceled.
    Thanks

  • I would like to temporarily unlock the device for international travel

I'b currently in a 8weeks travel to Europe from US. I've an ongoing 2y contract with ATT, 10gig plan with 2 phones. Phones are not paid in full yet, as Im only 11 months through the 24 months term. However, I've made 1000USD security deposit when purchasing the phones. I've never missed a payment, and I plan to be using ATT service when I'm back. Moreover, Im not going to suspend it, but pay in full every month like I always did. I've tried using the unlock form, but it wouldn't allow the unlock since I am on an ongoing contract. I have contacted support and they agreed ATT is safe since they have 1000USD security deposit from me just in case anything happens, but they failed to fulfill my request as Im an active client for less than a year (11 months to be exact). They have offered 2 options, to pay a termination fee, or use international package. Both would not work for me, as I'm going to use the services when I go back for another year, so I dont want to terminate. International packages are useless in the country Im going to. I have also proposed that I pre-pay 2-3 more months ahead instead of termination. Of course, I can use 3rd-party unlock options, but I dont want to as I was always loyal to ATT and expected ATT to be loyal in respond. Having the loyal customer is in ATT's best interest. Question: is there any way I can have my unlock request processed taking into account what is said above? There is zero risk to ATT.

Unfortunately no. AT&T will not unlock any device currently under any agreement.
You can try and private message to see if they can help, but I wouldn't count on it.
