PowerMac 6400/300 won't recognize farallon PCI ethernet card

I have a powermac 6400/300 and I put in a farallon PCI ethernet card but can't find a driver for it. I have the same problem with the usb PCI card I put in. It is a Opti two slot card. If you know where I can get drivers for either of these please post a reply, thankyou.
PowerMac 6400/300   Mac OS 9.1.x

Farallon produced more than one pci ethernet card, and the driver you need depends on the card. Many drivers are still available, for example, this one:
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/1796
I suggest you 'google', for example with "farallon ethernet drivers".
The USB card is a whole different issue, since what it needs are specific Apple extensions. If you go over to the beige G3 discussions area and search for USB extensions, the answer should come up.

  • PCI Ethernet card problem.....please help!

Hi everyone, I intalled yesterday a PCI Ethernet card (10/100) on my PowerMac G5.
!0.5 immediately recogenize it and setted it with DHCP mode but internet looks to be slow so I chaged the configuration with static IP but with out any good result.
Internet works but very slooly while the network works great with (10/100 card and fine with integrated gigabit lan).
Someone could help me to understand while the PCI ethernet card doesn't work fine with internet? It's directly connected on a Netgear firewall routrer.....
    thanks to everyone

But it could be unsupported the second ethernet on a powermac g5?
No, the fact that it shows up is proof that it works.
What Speeds are you getting with it?...
    http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Also, in System Preferences>Network>Show>Ethernet 2>Ethernet tab>Configue:>Manually, try setting the speed lower & Duplex to Half-Duplex, restart required, test that setting.

i would try an SMC reset, the following article tells how to do this:

if it still gives that message, you need to take it to apple store or apple service provider to have a new card installed. the apple site gives listings of providers and stores in your area:

  • I need a PCI ethernet card driver for my Performa 6360...

Roughly a week ago, I decided to add yet another one of my classic Macs to my LAN, a classic gaming LAN of sorts, with that mac being a Performa 6360. With it's single empty (at the time) PCI slot, the solution for an ethernet card for the system was basically screaming at me. Unfortunately, I went to my local electronics store with the assumption that PCI ethernet cards are fairly generic devices that should work in nearly everything without a problem. That turned out not to be the case. Once I finally aquired the time to install it, the card itself appeared to work, with the outer LEDs indicating network activity and a 100mbps network speed, however, when I went into the Appletalk or TCP/IP control panels, I came to the terrible realization that I needed a driver. The included CD was, much to my dismay, Windows only, Google searches haven't been much help, and worst of all, I seem to have misplaced my reciept. The "card" I keep mentioning is a Linksys LNE100TX version 5.1. Here is what is shown in the apple system profiler:
    ==============================
    PCI Slot
    Card type: ethernet
    Card name: pci1317,574
    Card model: -1
    Card Rom #: Not available
    Card Revision: 17
    Card Vendor ID: 1317
    ==============================
What I am wondering is where I could find a driver for this card, and if that answer is "nowhere", is there any way I could get this card functioning under Mac OS 8.1? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

finding one, is a good question. Oddly enough the link you posted to the 10T version is the same company as above.
Yes, I have tried searching a number of places for it, and haven't come up with much. Here is what a google shopping search pulled up (eBay came up empty), the first being "unavailable" for purchase once you add it to your shopping cart and the second costing only $150! I could easily buy a new (used) mac with the card installed in it for that much!
As for the PCI slot cards you are trying, keep in mind that you are trying to use current cards which didn't exist back in the day your Mac and OS were made...... I have Asante 10/100 PCI cards in some of that generation mac and they work fine but then they were supported by the OS.
Good point. Even back when I purchased it, the card seemed a bit of a long-shot to me, too. However, being on sale for $15, I thought, "why not at least try?". Unfortunately, I came up with the results above. However, you have given me a good idea. I realize from reading a few posts around here on the issue that it is a good idea to keep the pci slot of the computer open on this computer until there is a need to upgrade, let's say, for a graphics card. However, what if I have no future plans to add anything (as is currently)? Is it really that necessary that I keep the slot open? I'm sure it would be exponentially easier to find a card for that.
A long shot might be to try loading OS 9.0.4 and see if you get lucky as 8 is pretty old plus there's a part of me that wonders with such a slow bus and cpu that 100T is going to make a big difference.

Thank you for the suggestion, but that's how I collected the information for the card in the first place. The Performa 6360 didn't seem to take the card, so I popped it in to my Beige G3 running Mac OS 9.2.2 and hoped it might work on that. Same problem, however, the Apple System Profiler is much more thorough on that OS, so I was able to acquire the card's information. The reason for the 100-BaseT Ethernet, again, is not solely based on that one computer; It's the fact that I would prefer the network to run at the faster speed and with four macs currently on it, with a few more modern ones such as the iBook G3 shown below, the speed is a nice thing to have.
So, on that note, any suggestions for a PCI equivalent? Has Apple ever made any? If so, where could I find them at a reasonable (Read: Not $150) price?
    Thanks again.

  • Mac Mini OS 10.4.11 won't recognize SanDIsk MIcro SD Card 2 different card

I am trying to add files to a 4G Transflash card using a Transflash SanDisk Adapter. I have tried two different card readers and the mini never recognizes the card as a drive. I formatted the card in the cell phone, so the cell phone recognizes the card but my computer won't. I tried it on an old Compaq PC and it looked like the computer was going to recognize the card but the computer crashed, typical of that old PC.
I have all the right things checked under Finder>Preferences>Sidebar. I tried using a SanDIsk Card reader and another one, unknown brand. I took back the Transflash Card and got a new one with the same negative results.
    Please help.

Ah, I saw this earlier and wondered if it might be SDHC.
Some SD readers can't read the silly new SDHC format...

Another thing to try is if you can connect your Phone to the Mac, open up Image Capture APP and see if that recognizes it.

I've downloaded and installed the SD card driver from the Toshiba web site and restarted the computer but it made no difference.

Everything should have been working after using the recovery media. If the SD drive never worked after that, it sounds like it may be hardware failure that happened at the same time.

  • 'The cable for the PCI Ethernet is not plugged in' error

Hi everyone, I've installed a PCI network card for my G5, 1.8 (later model) single processor, and checked to make sure the card has the Realtek chips.
I've tried the D-Link DGE-528T which is meant to be OSX compatible but to no avail. I get the 'The cable for the PCI Ethernet is not plugged in' message. I've then tried the Pluscom with Realtek 8169 chip and again, get the same message.
I have a good understanding of networking, have installed several drivers, sometimes manually and I've used the terminal to recode the permissions. I've also removed the extension cache file but still no luck. I've also made sure to follow each install path from the package file and remove any older drivers. I've also installed the card in slot 1.
I don't think it is the card. Does anyone have any other ideas I could try?

Where did you get the drivers?
I've heard of people using D-Link routers, and even D-Link's USB/Wireless adapter, but I've never encountered anyone using a D-Link PCI ethernet card. A quick search didn't find any drivers and without that you're not going to get very far. I'm mildly impressed that the OS recognizes the card at all.

  • Power Mac G5 PCI Ethernet Drops Internet or always loading.

    Hi,
I have a very weird problem.
The ethernet card on my Power Mac stopped working and I bought a PCI Ethernet card to replace it. I also have the Airport Card installed and the wireless internet works perfect but it is not ideal to stream video to my PS3 or my Macbook.
The PCI card presents a very particular problem, when I connect using the PCI ethernet, I try opening Safari with apple.com as Home page and it never loads, it loads to the middle and stays there. If I try loading another page after like iPhone blog, sports or google, it loads fine and seems to be ok. If I try YouTube or Google video, it happens again and it freezes.
    I have tried the following:
Open Firefox and since Firefox has Google as Home page, it loads just fine but after browsing 2 - 4 websites it sort of freezes.
Erase the network location and network setting for PCI ethernet.
Physically change the slot of the card on the Power Mac.
I got the PCI Card replaced by a new one and still same problem.
Change the cable, router port (I have a Time Capsule).
I would like to know if there's any way to identify this problem to the card or the computer or the network settings. It is very weird and I don't know if I buy a PCI wireless 802.11 n card will be different?
I did a speed test and gave me 9372 kbps download speed and 732 kbps uploard speed but as I write this topic the progress bar is stuck at the middle and is still like loading the page.
I would appreciate any suggestions and Help!!
    Thank you.

I should have asked earlier, but did you do the basic trouble-shooting step of resetting the PRAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Also if it might work without the drivers, did you try it previously with the driver not installed?
As a test, you can try creating a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane. Log out and log in to the new account. Do you have the same problem in the new account? If you do not, the problem is somewhere in your current user account. If you do have the same issue, the problem is with your overall system or with hardware.
If the latter (the issue recurs in more than one user account), do you have a place, such as a second internal drive or external FireWire drive, where you can install a fresh Mac OS X system, and boot from it? If it works with a new installation, you have narrowed the problem down to your current overall system. You can focus your trouble-shooting there. Or you can do an +Archive and Install+ option re-install. This option will give you a fresh system while preserving your user data, but be sure to do a backup of at least your personal data in case something bad happens.
If you have the same problem with a fresh system installation, this product is somehow not compatible with your hardware.

  • ITunes won't recognize iPod Nano (1GB, 1st generation)

I have been having problems Sync'ing my iPod nano with iTunes, however, the more I read help articles and follow the steps, the worse the problem gets. (I'm on a PC using Windows XP)
I've gotten to the point where I updated my iPod software in Disk mode (up until then it was being recognized only in Disk mode), but when iTunes failed to recognize it when not in Disk mode I preceded to restore my iPod to factory settings, as instructed in the help articles.
Now, up until then, I still had music in my iPod, and I was being able to charge it and listen to my music even though I couldn't sync the iPod anymore. After restoring, I not only lost my music (which I was aware of), but it STILL did not fix my problem. So I started to get annoyed.
I then noticed that my iPod was being recognized by My Computer, just not by iTunes, so I began to perform the steps indicated in the following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
I restarted my iPod service - no luck
I removed iTunes - no luck
I emptied my Temp directory and restarted...
That's when iTunes stopped recognizing my iPod altogether, not even in Disk mode. Not only that, but it seems to have affected the iPod itself, since it won't turn off or exit Disk mode anymore. So now I'm scared of going though with any more steps on whichever "help" articles and making the problem even worse than it already is (if that's possible).
The only other information I can provide is that windows is still recognizing my iPod, no problem, and when I connect my iPod, iTunes actually launches... but DOESN'T recognize a thing. So I ran a diagnostics using iTunes and here's what I got (iPod diagnostics):
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

IPOD (H:\), iPod nano running firmware version 1.3.1
All green lights, and as you can see, according to iTunes, NO PROBLEM! Except that it won't recognize the iPod that the disgnistics says exists and reads... ?!?!?!
If anyone could shed some light on my situation, i would be VERY greatful!

My IPod Nano will charge when connected to my computer but it won't come up on My Computer or iTunes. So I can't update the songs. I've already tried reseting the iPod. Does anybody know what I can do to fix it.

  • Networking 2 computers to share files problem. won't recognize login/pass

    hey
i really need help with this.
i now have 2 computers, a powermac G5 and a powerbook G4 connecting to each other with an ethernet cable so i can share files. for some reason when i try to connect as a user instead of guest it won't recognize my login/or password. it was working briefly before.
the only thing i did different was go into my account settings in both computer's preferences and changed the user name and password so they would be the same. they were the same before other than a capital letter but that sometimes affects things so i wanted to make them the exact same. now no matter what i try i cannot login to the network other than as a guest. and i want to be able to access my whole other computer.
    this is what it says:
'Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the name and password or contact the server's administrator.'
appletalk is on in the ethernet tab.
    file sharing is on.
    i've repaired disk permissions.
any help on this asap would be great. thanks

    See this.
How to use an iPod with more than one computer.
You say the iPod is already set to manual transfer. If so, files cannot be automatically be erased from the iPod when connecting to a different computer that does not contain the same files.
Manual transfer is how you have control of the iPod when using it on more than one computer. Files on the iPod are added and deleted manually by the user and not automatically by the computer and iTunes.

  • G4 DVD drive won't recognize OS 10.4 upgrade disc

I have a a PowerMac G4 (AGP graphics) with a CPU type PowerPC G4 (2.9). I have a upgrade disc for OS 10.4. When I load it into my Quantam Fireballlp LM27.3 DVD drive, the drive won't recognize the disc. It attempts to read it and then ejects it. I have an external USB 2.0 DVD RW burner plugged into a USB 1.0 port, and it recognizes the disc, but I can't select it as the startup disc.
How do I get my system to read the upgrade disc so I can upgrade to OS 10.4? I've run a lens cleaner several times with no change.
    Thanks!

    Hi-
Well, if you know someone who has a Mac, or, if you have another machine, try the disc in another machine. There is a possibility that the disc itself is bad. I would consider this a strong possibility, since the drive recognizes other DVD's, and the Panther install disc.
If the disc tests good in another machine, then you will need to consider replacing the drive for a newer model. A new combo drive is only about $30-$40. The Pioneer DVR-112 would be a good consideration.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Pioneer/DVR112DBK/
As for the "helpful" not working, there seems to be a problem within the system (known by the hosts, yet allowed to continue....). For now, I will gladly accept your thanks! (and, you're welcome!)
