Powermac 8600 VGA adapter dip switch settings

I was running an IBM 21" CRT with a PowerMac 8600. It has an adapter with the Dip switches. Well, trying to hook up an old Powermac 7600 I got the switches out of wack now i can't view either mac? Does anyone know the settings to run a big IBM P275 21" CRT?

Is that IBM a MultiSync monitor (can change resolutions on the fly?)
Do you have a meter? If not, do you know the make&model of the adapter, and how many Dip switches?

  • Need instructions for Enhanced Cable Tech "Liberty" VGA adapter....

    Hi!
I'm trying to get my old PowerMac 8500 up and running. The only display I have that is (well, should be...) compatible is an old Apple Studio Display 15" Flat Panel (Rev B.). This is the second iteration of that display, with the VGA connection, not the earlier Mac 15 pin D-sub connection, which is what the 8500 has (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP135).
I have two adapters that I'd think should do the trick of getting me something on the display. An NEC MultiScan unit that has several resolutions printed on it, but no adjustments, and an Enhance Cable Technologies Liberty adapter.
The NEC one gets me noplace, and so far, neither does the Liberty.
The Liberty has a knob with several letter stops (A-M or N), and a set of 9 (I think) DIP switches. Instructions on the back list many resolutions, but only give instructions for the last 3 DIP switches, which are for sync. It mentions to consult the instructions (which I can't find or don't have) for using the other DIP switches to get "expanded" ID codes.
I've tried all of the knob stops, and a couple DIP switch settings, but nothing seems to get me an image on the display. The display does work, it just isn't detecting a signal, and it will tell me so.
I think the 8500 may be going into "headless" server mode (no video) when it can't detect a monitor attached, so once it boots (and it IS booting), I can't get anything until I re-boot again. I'll have to dig up an OS9 install CD, to see if that helps me any. When I stored it some years ago, it was running Mac OS X 10.2 via a boot loader (it has a Sonnet PPC G3 processor upgrade card), so that may be an issue, too.
But, I was hoping that maybe someone has the instructions for the Liberty adapter kicking around in their junk drawer. All I need is the instructions for the DIP switch settings.
    Regards,
    Larry W.

Well, bought some new PRAM batteries from OWC. Installed one on the 8500/150 (also bought spares for my G4 & SE/30), zapped the PRAM several times, and still nothing. Then dug out my DVI-VGA adapter for my MBP, just to verify that nothing had gone sour with the display since I last put it in the box. All good there.
But, it turns out that I had a solution all along in the "Accessories Kit" in the box the Studio Display came with. There was, still sealed in 16-year-old plastic, an adapter that came bundled with the display! Cut open the plastic, installed it, hooked on the display, and presto-chango, I'm watching Jaguar boot up!
Though, Jaguar isn't so swift on this machine, even with a 250Mhz G3 processor... Might have to do with only 240MB of RAM... Once I got it back running Mac OS 9.1, though, it's a pretty snappy machine. It even reports a processor speed of 279Mhz!
Now I can get what I need from the machine, and move it on to a new home. Also check out all the rest of my SCSI devices for data I think I need, as this is my last SCSI machine that'll take more than one internal device!
And I may even see if I can make the Liberty adapter work like the Apple-supplied one.

  • Help, Canopus ADVC-55 Dip Switch Setting.

I just bought one today (but with no manual), I can't figure out what the (6) dip switch settings should be at.
I live in USA (California), If anyone can help..thanks in advance!
    Using IMovie 5.0.2

If they are same as on my Canopus ADVC110, then switch 6 sets the video format.
    OFF = NTSC
    ON = PAL
So you need to set it to OFF.

  • Using Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter -- any settings on the Macbook Air I need to change?

Going into a meeting with my Macbook Air with Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, which will be connnected to a video projector on site. Never tried this setup before. Will this just work or do I need to adjust any video settings on my Macbook Air?

    Hi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:

  • IPad 4 lightning to vga adapter, works but gets stuck in video out mode. I can't get it to switch back to mirroring without restarting it

I have an iPad 4 with an Apple lightning to vga adapter. (A1439)
It connects fine to my HDTV and projector for doing presentations and video etc.
But if I do show any video on it, e.g. full screen a video from within Chrome, Safari, the apps for Youtube etc.
or if I do a presentation using Keynote, it locks into working as an extended second screen.
It shows the controls for the video on the iPad and the video on the external screen, which is what I would expect. But then if I exit the video or complete the presentation, the external screen continues to show the last frame of the video or presentation. Even if I close the app.
I can't get back to using it in mirroring mode without shutting it down and restarting.
Surely I am just missing something.
I've tried force closing the apps that I use, switching between them, starting up new ones etc.
    But no luck.
There doesn't seem to be a setting anywhere that I can change.
    Any suggestions?

The same thing happened to me. After the big update, I also experienced exactly what you described. I ended up restoring the ipad a number of times.
The first few times, I restored from a back-up. The last few times I have restored the ipad as new. It would work the next few times I turned the machine on, and around the third time, it would lapse back into the recovery mode, with
the image of the serial cord connecting to an i-tunes logo on its desktop. This morning, I restored the ipad as new, but only allowed the apps manufactured by Apple to be synced back onto the ipad. I have powered it back on about three times, and so far, so good. I am waiting to see what happens the next few times I turn the machine on.
I had a very helpful senior Apple express advisor help me on Sunday to do the restore as a new ipad procedure. He said that if that did not work, the next step was having it serviced. He also mentioned that often the third party apps have problems due to getting corrupt and this often happens after a major update. That is why I thought i'd try and see what would happen if I only synced the Apple apps back onto the ipad.
It is not good though if I can't put third party applications on it without having the problem of lapsing into recovery mode, so I may have to get it serviced. I am wondering how many others have had this problem after the big update last week? Also, has anyone who was an early purchaser and got the flat-rate unlimited data plan subscription from AT&T, had to have their ipad replaced? Was there a problem with AT& T still allowing you to continue your special subscription plan?

  • Giga Designs Dip Switch Voltage Settings

    Hi,
I have a Giga Designs 1.8 Ghz dual processor. My particular model has 6 dip switches for setting voltage. Does anyone here have a chart, or guide for setting those switches to set voltage. I found a guide online [here|http://www.macgurus.com/forums/showpost.php?p=117337&postcount=14] for the 5 switch models that Giga made, but nothing for 6.
    Thanks,
    medinaray

    Hi,
.....Well now, this is very interesting and now a bit confusing. I did a quick online search for a Giga Designs installation guide and could not find one. But I do have the hard copy installation guide that came with the processor.
The link you provide clearly shows the 6 switches and a six switch guide. My hard copy chart shows a five switch guide for setting processor speed(it says processor speed), making our guides different. I also have a copy of the installation guide on the CD that came with the processor and it is the same as the hard copy version. My guide also warns to not adjust the voltage jumpers labeled J6 thru J10; that would be five switches. I checked my processor and neither set of the jumper switches are labeled J6 thru J10. I see a J22, but that is it. The model number in your link is 7A-1800UPG, and mine is P7AD-1800U. Are the 5 dip switches on the right side in the photograph the voltage switches(J6 thru J10)? Well, I adjusted those 5 dip switches on the right side of the processor because my installation guide shows settings for 5 switches. Naturally, I assumed the six dip switches on the left side of the processor were the voltage switches that the installation guide warns to not adjust. Can you see why the confusion?
Finally, I compared the 6 dip switch setting on my processor to the 6 switch guide in your link for 1.8 Ghz at 100 Mhz system Bus and they are identical. So, I feel a little relieved, though concerned that the voltage setting on my processor is now maladjusted.
Which is which, what is what? Are the 6 switches on the left for processor speed? Or, are the 5 switches on the right for processor speed? What is the difference between model 7A-1800UPG and P7AD-1800U?
Why would Giga supply a 5 switch guide for processor speed? Did Giga make a mistake in the installation guide they sent me?

  • Mini display to VGA adapter only supports up to 800x600

I recently bought a mini display port to VGA adapter to connect a second monitor to my mini, but it only detects two resolutions:
640x480 and 800x600. The 17 inch LCD display is capable of much higher resolutions (I think 1400x900), but I cannot find a way to increase the resolution, since the mac only detects the two settings above. How can I tell it to switch a higher resolution?
The monitor works on a windows laptop, so I am sure its not defective.

Do you have an official Apple adapter or did you get a third-party one? If the latter, that could be the problem.

  • MiniDP to VGA Adapter - screen flickering, even after Firmware Update

    Hello,
concerning the MiniDP to VGA Adapter, I'm experiencing the same issue many other users are complaining about: When hooked up to my 22" external LCD, the screen goes black from time to time. After 1-2 seconds it's back to normal; still enervating though.
    Model:
LG L227 WTP-PF (@1680x1050 + max. colors; only available refresh rate: 59,9 Hz)
    MiniDP-VGA Adapter Firmware: 1.03 (current)
    Mac OSX 10.5.6
MacBook Pro 15" Unibody (Late '08)
Apple Software Update says I'm up-to-date on the software side. I've read that the low refresh rate could be responsible for this. Only problem: I can't change it in System Preferences/Monitor settings. Other options than 59,9Hz are greyed out.
    Any solution to this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tobi

I've got almost exactly the same set up, only with a Samsung display, and I too have found that the recent adapter firmware update has not done the trick.
However, since you have a PRO, you are (maybe) in luck. The PRO has two graphics options, the 9400M (which is the same as in the MB) and the 9600M GT. You switch between these by selecting "Higher Performance" or "Better Battery Life" in the Energy Saver System Preferences.
I have found that by selecting "Higher Performance" I do not get the screen blanking at all. It is slightly annoying that when taking my Mac on the move, I have to switch back to "Better Battery Life" (and hence log out) if I want to get the most out of my battery, but it is the only way I have found of ensuring a screen-blanking free experience when sat at my desk using the external display.
    Hope this helps.
    Ade
P.S. I have a LG LCD HD TV too, and don't find I have the problem with either graphics card when using this. I only connect at "something x 768" to the TV, whereas the 22" monitor is "something x 1050", so maybe there is a problem with the 9400M driving higher resolution displays? I presume it can drive Apple's own HD displays ok though....?

  • Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter Problems in Boot Camp / Windows

I currently run Windows XP SP2 on my MacBook and recently purchased the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter so I could hook up the MacBook to an external projector, monitor, or TV to display what's on my Windows screen on the external device. However, when I connect it to any external device, it just goes nuts and sporadically continues to make the hardware connect and hardware disconnect sounds and doesn't allow for external output of the screen. Any suggestions...? Thanks!
    Marc

I think I solved this problem.
It was in issue for me. My second monitor would only display the Windows XP screen when it was loading, then it would black out. I couldn't even move my mouse arrow to the other side. Then I fixed it, here's how (running Windows XP SP3):
    1. Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes
    2. Display
    3. Go to tab "settings"
    4. Double click the blue image with the "2" inside it. This is the second monitor, adjacent to your first, or primary, monitor. The blue box may be a desaturated, greyish blue, meaning that the monitor is disabled. Click it and it a box will pop up asking if you want to enable the monitor. Click OK, and then like magic, your monitor is resurected in it's Windows Glory! From there, adjust the resolution, and it should work perfectly.
This isn't a Boot Camp compatability issue, it's just a problem with the lack of familiarity that users of OS X have with using XP.
    Have a nice day!

  • Dvi to vga adapter?

I want to connect a 20" VGA monitor to my Powermac dual 2.7. I looked in the Apple store and here's what they had:
"The Apple DVI to VGA display adapter was specially designed to allow users to connect their DVI equipped PowerBook G4 or Power Mac G4 to an external VGA monitor or projector for 24-bit video-mirroring or dual display.. The DVI to VGA adapter plugs into the DVI port built into the new PowerBook G4 or into Power Mac G4s with NVIDIA or ATI Radeon graphic cards which feature DVI ports"
Does Apple make an adapter for a G5 Powermac, if not, any suggestions on which one and where to get one?
    Thanks, Pete

Yeah, I think you're working too hard.
That one should be fine. I think you can only use one of them, as they're too wide to use one on each of the video card's ports. That's how it is on mine. Only an issue of course if you decide to use two VGA monitors.

  • Mini-DVI to VGA adapter length

I'll be officially switching from microsoft to mac this month and i cant wait.
after much thought as to whether i should buy a MBP or a MB i decided to go MB
I plan to use my MB as a desktop while im in my dorm. I already have a 17 inch HP LCD monitor that works perfectly fine
I know that in order to hook the monitor and the MB up i need to get the mini-DVI to VGA adapter.
My question is, how long is the actual cable for the adapter? The picture on the website looks kinda short and I don't know whether or not the cable will reach from the back of the monitor to macbook. Will the cable be long enough so my macbook can rest freely on my desk, a few inches in front of my monitor, or am I going to have to put the monitor on top of/in front of my macbook.
    Thanks!
    ~Dan

The cable on the adapter is only 2.5 inches long.
I wish that Apple would make a mini-DVI extension cable so I could get the big bulky adapter off of my desk.

  • Mini DVI to VGA adapter doesn't seem to work

    Hi everyone
I am trying to link my Powerbook to my TV using the mini DVI to VGA adapter. I have made the connection and the Mac seems to be detecting the TV display, but the desktop is not appearing on the TV screen. Is there something I need to do with screen resolution settings, for example? The manual sems to suggest that you just plug in the adapter and away you go...
    Any ideas gratefully received.

If it is showing the Galaxy image the signal is getting there. you have it set to Extended desktop. Go into the Dispplay section in System Preferences and chnge it to Mirror display, Check Box near the bottom of that window.

  • 2nd Monitor Connected Via DVI to VGA Adapter is Blurry

I have a G4 dual 1.42 GHz (the last G4 model) and have an Apple 20" Cinema Display connected to the ADC port and a 21" CRT monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter supplied with the G4.
The CRT monitor display is blurry. I have tweaked display settings in System Preferences and the monitor's controls and nothing helps. I used this monitor in a dual monitor setup on a Power Mac 9600/300 and it was razor sharp, so I know that the monitor is okay. I could pull a display card from the old Power Mac 9600 since it's not being used anymore, but I hate to add another card to the G4 because of the heat problems. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I'm wondering, is it to be expected that the monitor connected to the DVI port via the DVI to VGA adapter won't look anywhere near as good as if it were connected to a separate graphics card? Thanks.
