Powermac digital audio two displays

with a ATI RAGE 128 Pro graphics card, the one standard on the digital audio powermac. it has the ADC connection and a VGA. does that card support dual displays? would you be able to connect an apple studio monitor to the ADC port and also power a VGA monitor?

Hi, Alarkia -
The original ATI RAGE 128 Pro card does not support two monitors. It is designed for one monitor, but comes with two different connectors to facilitate connecting different kinds of monitors.
Adding a second monitor to that card is not a good idea - best case, the second monitor will mirror the first; worst case, the card will fry.
You can replace the original AGP card with a newer one which is dual monitor capable; or add a PCI card in an available PCI slot to support one or more additional monitors. Doing this will also allow the additional monitor(s) to be used in extended-desktop mode.

  • Processor and Graphics query for G4 PowerMac 'Digital Audio'

    Hey all, two questions here...
    Question 1
Ive got ANOTHER new processor and graphics card for my Digital Audio G4. The processor i had in it before was a Sonnet Encore ST/G4 1GHz, ive replaced this with the same make of processor but at 1.4GHz. The processor works fine and the machine runs fine, but it isn't listed properly in the system profilers...
In OS9 it's speed is described as "about 656Mhz" and in OSX its described as 0MHz!
Im not too worried since everything seems to be working fine, but i want to be sure that its not going to suddenly blow up on me, and if anyone else has had things like this happen with these processors or configurations. Ive still got the 1GHz should anything go wrong, but newer, more powerful stuff is always good!
    Question 2
The new graphics card i put in is a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro PC & Mac Edition. Ive read a few things on the internet about it sometimes not working with DA Power Macs but thought id chance it anyway, i can always sell it on if it didn't work...
Well the card works in both OS9 and OSX and displays everything fine, its recognised by both systems and everything. The only problem is i can't change the display settings, on both systems the only display option ive got is x736 (or whatever it is thats closest to it), there are no other options available, i can't choose anything else in the Recommended menu, not can i change from Thousands to Millions of colours.
Of course its generally agreed that these cards work better on G5s than G4s, despite it saying on the box that it supports G4s. Ive also downloaded the ATI Displays Control Panel to see if i can control it that way, but to no avail. Does anyone have any info or words of advice on this?
    Cheers all!

    Good to hear, thanks!
Do follow the advice to add as much cooling as you can, & use the best Ceramique Thermal Paste you can find.
Did you clear all the Caches yet?
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
Just sits there occupying very little space & never interfering, unless you need to invoke it in Single User Mode.
Look for the 10.3 version of AppleJack 1.4.3.1 (326 KB) (For Mac Jaguar and Panther), here...

  • PowerMac G4 Digital Audio & Wide Screen (19/9) LCD Display - Compatible?

I want to buy a 23" LCD wide screen monitor to use with my G4 466 Digital Audio (1/2/2001). The display Chipset Model is ATY,Rage128Pro with 16 MB of VRAM. Both the G4 and the wide screen monitor have VGA connectors.
When I look at the display resolutions in Sys Prefs I don't see a 16/9 ratio resolution listed?
Can this computer be compatible with the 16/9 monitor?
    Thanks!
    -Joe

You never do see an exact 16:9 resolution in the list. On my 1 GHz G4 for example the resolution is set to 1680 x 1050, which is 16:10.
I do not know the answer to your question since I have never used a 23" monitor. I do have an Acer 22", and I just verified it gives the correct aspect ratio connected to the video card on a 400 Mhz G4. Thus my guess is you will be able to set the resolution so there is no distortion, but you may not be able to squeeze the monitors pixels to their limit. i.e. you may have to settle for 1360 x 768 - but I am just guessing.

  • How many U is a G5 powermac   and  G4  digital audio

hey guys. im buying some new servers soon and i was thinking of putting my 2 apple base units with them in the server case. but obv i need to no what size U to get for the case. any ideas what the powermac G5 and maybe powermac g4 digital audio is?
    thanks for any help

I am not exactly sure, but Google is your friend.
For example, this unit claims to take up 7Us:

I've also used rack-mounted shelves to install G5s and G4s. They are generally much cheaper than the other solutions.

  • Error Code EF01, Video and Digital Audio Dropping out

    To whom it concerns,
A customer of mine is having problems with his Fios DVR.  He will be watching TV through his Integra DTR 40.3 receiver, connected via HDMI cable and his picture and audio will just stop.  This is always accompanied by a code that displays on the front panel of the DVR which reads EF01.  The customer is usually able to restore picture and audio by performing a power cycle on both the AV receiver and the Fios Box.
There have been numerous occasions of this problem occurring.  Sometimes it happens quite frequently, (once every 10 min) other times much more infrequently.  Also the problems vary in their severety.  Sometimes just the digital audio will drop out but the pitcure will remain. Other times the picture and audio will go out and they will damage the HDMi input that the Fios box is connected to, rendering it unusable.  We have since repaired the Integra recevier twice.  This last repair we haven't had an incident for 3 months, now we are back to losine Audio and Video.
The customer initially had the Fios DVR replaced, but as the incidents kept happening, we tried repairing and replacing the AV receiver.  I keep coming back to that error code because I don't know what it means and nobody can explain to me if it has any significance or bearing on the problems we are having.
Does anybody know what the EF01 error code indicates on the Fios DVR?  Has anyone had problems similar to the one I am describing, regarding HDMI video/audio loss?
    Thanks,
    Kelly White

    Hey, Jared  here.
The EF01 error code means that either the CableCard inside the box isn't getting any signal, or the CableCard isn't sending out any signal. A really efficiant way to see exactly what they problem is, is to take the box to a another location where Fios tv works fine.
    There are two possible outcomes:
Either the box doesn't work, and is still displaying the EF01 error code. Than the issue is with that box, and I must be replaced.
The other possibility is that the box works fine. The error code goes away, and the box works perfect. If this is the case, we know it is the coax wires coming from ONT (Optical Network Terminal). And a Service Technician is required to come out and address the issue.

  • Digital Audio output for W series - Alternatives

There's a thread talking about the displayport does not have audio-output.  Its true and some people get victimized by ill-trained sales people who think their displayport is standard.  There's no literature on Lenovo website warning users about the audio issue either - such thread is closed with the fact that (some) other manufacturers in the same period does have have audio either and Lenovo think they should be in the same boat.
Let's not go into the blamish again, but discuss what we can do with existing options with alternative digital audio out and line-in that the W series really really missed.
We have (1) mini-dock and (2) USB soundcard listed as options
I currently use a USB DAC (digital to analog) system and it do really good in terms of stereo music enjoyment.  However my particular system does not have digital manupilated sound like 3-D surround or multi-channel output and not suprisely, laptop USB generally produce greater latency than desktop USB ports.
Besides USB, we have 1394 and express card 34 as expansion options.
What's your setup for digital audio out?  Anyone know any internal soundcard that fits the slots of Wireless USB/Turbo memory PCI ports that all W-series have?

    Other alternatives include
I know on mackbooks I've seen firewire used as an input for a Weiss Dac if you're into two channel audio.  Do any reiceivers take firewire as an input for hometheater?  Has anyone tested Firewire outputs on their W series?  I'm told that firewire is sometimes preferable to USB, I'm not sure why this would be, can USB support passthrough of DTS encoded signals?
In the case that firewire works and you Do not have a firewire source, maybe something like this would be of value  It converts firewire to digital coaxial s/pdif and allows passthrough of DTS and AC3.
    http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/FireWire-Audiophile_Manual.pdf
As I'm into audio the critical thing here (and what you're paying for when you purchase blue-ray, is maintaining the digital information from the disk in an unconverted form.  You want a direct bit pass through, and you want as little jitter introduced to the signal as possible.  You most certainly don't want the sound card getting in the way, Digtital to Analog converting and then reverse packaging it up and putting it out over the soundcard digital out.  My problem is I'm not familiar enough with computer audio to know how exactly the sounds is transmitted from your blue ray drive to the digital interface you've chosen.
Anyone know why USB digital out would not be a prefered method?

I recently (Jan 2012) acquired a MacBook Pro (MBP) running 10.7.4 and an AirPort Express.  I also have an old PPC G4 tower (Digital Audio model) running 10.4.11.  The OS software on both machines is totally up to date.  AirPort Utility on the G4 is 5.4.2 and on 6.0 on the MBP.  I bought a used AirPort card for the G4, I believe it is 802.11b compatible, and the wireless data rate is specified at 11 Mbps.  Being a newbie to wireless, it took me many days to get these two machines to link up.  This network is not connected to the internet, and there no other networks in the vicinity.
My last problem to solve is the very slow file transfer speeds between the two machines. The transfer time seems to vary depending on which machine I use to initiate the transfer, and which direction the transfer is going.  For example: If I initiate the transfer from the G4 and send a 5.4MB file to the MBP it takes 1:32 (min:sec), while the same file going from the MBP to the G4 takes 27 seconds.  On the other hand if the transfer is initiated on the MBP, going from the MBP to the G4 takes 2:56, while going from the G4 to the MBP takes 1:59.  I realize that these times are not actual wireless transfer times but includes the entire transfer process.
Both machines and the AirPort Express are within a 4-foot radius.  Both machines are set to radio channel 2.  The AirPort Express is set for 802.11n(802.11b/g compatible) with WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • HT4614 connecting two displays on mac mini(late 2012)

I have a mac mini (on order). I want to use two displays as follows: connect one to the thunderbolt port and one to the hdmi port. Can I do it?

If possible steer away from analog VGA.
If you have DVI or HDMI supported monitors, you can use the supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter or a straight HDMI cable from the Mini's HDMI port for one monitor.
Then depending on the second monitor HDMI, DVI or VGA you will need one of the following MiniDisplay Port to HDMI, DVI or VGA Adapters connected to the Thunderbolt Port. Optionaly, if you had a monitor that supported Display Port, then you could use a MiniDisplay Port to Display Port cable.

  • [Solved] Difficulty getting digital audio to play in all applications

This is probably a noobish question...
My motherboard supports digital audio out via S/PDIF cable (optical), as well as standard analog audio. I have a stereo receiver that I've plugged my optical cable into.
When I go to systemsettings > Multimedia > Phonon > Audio Playback, I put the "HDA Intel S/PDIF Digital" device on top and clicked Test. I could hear the test tone (playback source is PCM).
However, if I go to play an MP3 or whatever, I have to go into the settings for each application and tell it to use that particular device. Some applications (such as Firefox) do not have obvious settings for audio playback. Is there a way to solve the problem once and for all (tell the audio system "send everything through the digital device all the time")?
(I read the relevant section of the wiki, but it is focused on getting sound out of your digital device, not making it the default.)
Any other advice or gotchas about using digital audio would also be appreciated.
    Thanks!

My .asoundrc looks the same as above. But just for fun, I also tried removing it and restarting alsa, with no change.
I'm testing output by going to systemsettings > Multimedia > Phonon and clicking the Test button with "HDA Intel (AD198x Digital)" selected. Nothing comes out through SPDIF, though it does play through analog (I have two separate pairs of headphones plugged in, one to the analog jack and one to a headphone amp plugged through the digital port) so I can tell which port the audio is coming from).
I've checked the hardware volume, and it appears to be in order. The amp is not reporting any audio signal on the optical port. I tried switching out the cable just to be paranoid, and still nothing. I believe this is a software problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Digital Input Cannot Display this Video Mode Optimum Resolution 1280 x 1024 60hz.

HP Pavilion h8-1360t, Windows7 home premium 64-bit,  AMD Radeon HD 7570 graphics card.
error message: Digital Input Cannot Display this Video Mode Optimum Resolution 1280 x 1024 60hz.
I get the error message as soon as Windows opens and the desktop displays.  Then it goes black with that message.  I've been using the computer for awhile and I had it so that when I maximized a window it would go across both screens.  I have two monitors on the graphics card.  Somehow I changed the settings so that a program would maximize to one monitor or the other.   That is how I want it to work.  Maybe I activated HydraVision.  Now I have the problem when I start.
Also now when I boot to Safe Mode I get the message that there is no AMD graphics driver installed, or it is not functioning properly.  I have tried to update it and the computer tells me I have the most recent version installed.   I would like to uninstall it and reinstall it, but I'm a little worried I won't get it installed and be without video.  Something like that happened to me once before years ago.
Could someone tell me what I should do please?
    Thanks,
    Jim Allen

    HP support is here:

In safe mode you should uninstall the driver, then try to boot normal again.
Then check if driver was installed by win7.
If not go go AMD website and download latest driver for your card.

  • Digital Audio G4 and Radeon 9800 Pro

Has anyone had the same fuss w/a Digital Audio and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac Edition? Been through about 5 cards (lost count somewhat) and constantly getting a display of the video card (with its power connector flashing red) on a black screen. Only by opening the box and reconnecting the power connections, and sometimes reseating the card, do I get successful results, with the Mac booting properly.
No other card (others that I use do not require an additional power connector like the 9800 does) seems to have this problem; all boot properly.
There is a Sonnet 1.8 Ghz Dual CPU upgrade, 2 internal hard drives, a raid card, and FW 800 and FW 400/USB2 cards, but additional power connections for those have been unplugged. I'm good with letting any external devices run on their own power.
Thanks much, to anyone that may have a suggestion or a solution.

    Hi-
With regards to the connector graphic, this invariably means that there isn't power connected.
State the obvious, but, have you tried pulling power from a different connector? Maybe try a new extension........ Molex connectors can work loose from the cap, and slide back when attaching to a device. This would give the appearance of being connected, though in reality, otherwise.
Have you tried without any of the PCI cards installed? I wouldn't want to remove the processor, either, though the dual does pull some power at boot. The DA PSU, however, should be able to handle both the processors and the 9800..... unless the PSU has a weak 12v/5v/3.3v rail....
Pulling the PCI cards will clear up whether or not the problem is with power in the PCI bus.
As for posting a picture, you need to host the picture at a site like Photobucket or Imageshack. Then, place a link (produced at the host site) in your thread.

  • Can't get two displays to work anymore

We have a computer lab where I work of PowerMac G5's, all which have two 17" LCD monitors attached. One of the computers recently stopped working with two displays and will only work with one. If both monitors are plugged in, the LCD that works will be the one with the "extra" desktop area. If you unplug a monitor, you can get the actual desktop area on the one remaining monitor. The monitors are both fine (swapped them out) and the video connector/converters are fine, as I swapped them with another system that works fine. When looking at "Display" in system preferences, the "arrangement" tab is completely missing on either monitor. I have reinstalled the drivers, (it's an ATI Radeon 9800 xt 256 mg) swapped with another video card from a spare system, and even reinstalled Mac OS X (reinstall/archive feature) and still nothing has happened. I've thought it was a hardware problem all a long, my boss thinks it is software. I'm very new at Macs. Any suggestions?
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

If you can find a used one. That is the only dual card Apple was selling at the time. There a other choices now, from adding a PCI card, to replacing your current card with a dual. I'm not sure of the AGP speed of your machine, so can't recommend a specific card, but when you do buy one, insist on a money back guarantee that it will work with your machine. Some cards don't work with all the machines the claim to be compatible with.

  • How to use the Digital Audio in & out RCA jacks a6010n

On the lower right of the back of my Pavillion a6010n desktop, above the mouse and keboard connections and below the monitor connection are two RCA jacks labeled Digital Audio in and out.  The top one has an orange insulator and is labeled "out", and the lower one has a black insulator and is labeled "in".  I have been unable to find any information about these or how to use them.  Can anyone please tell me or direct me to information about this?  I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and have added a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card which is cheap but has a better S/N ratio.  In Control Panel --> Sound the digital output for the sound card is listed but there is nothing about the Digital Audio jacks I would like to be able to use.  Thank you all.
