Powermac flashing status light error and adding memory boards

I bought a used Powermac G5. So far it won't boot, there is no image being delivered to the monitor, and the fan revs like a vacuum cleaner.  At first the status light gave series of 3 flashing lights which the online manual (I don't have the specific manual for this machine) says is incorrect memory board or similar message. However, last time I turned on the Powermac the status light now gives single flashes which diagnostic meaning is not even mentioned in the online manual I am using. Does anyone know what single flashes mean? As far as the memory boards are concerned, what is in there now are: Apple memory module M9296G/A (Samsung PC3200U 30331 0413 256MB DDR CL3) in both inner slots, and Hynix PC3200U 30330 0411 256MB DDR 400Mhz CL3 in both second to inner slots. Are these the correct boards? I have on hand 2 other boards from a broken iMac G5. They are Edge Tech 1GB 5380601-40. Can these iMac boards be added to what is in the Powermac or substituted for two of the existing matched boards if they are the wrong type for the Powermac? Both the Powermac and the iMac run Leopard OS. I have also ordered a new battery for the Powermac. The existing battery is dead. Could that cause flashing status light? Thanks.

  • Dead MacBook : nothing on screen , flashing status light (6 times)

    Hello
My Dad has a MacBook (early 2006) which worked flawlessly until it did not boot one morning.
Now he has a black screen, nothing when powered up except, if you maintain power pressed, 6 times flashing status light.
    - Restoration CD did not do anything because it could not load (CD doesn't eject, has to use the "business card in the slot" trick to eject the disc).
    - All resets did not do anything (power button for 5 secondes with no battery or power cord, cmd + option + p + r either)
    - Could not run diagnostics
    - Apple certified repair center saif motherboard is fried, costs the price of a brand new MacBook to change it.
Do you have any idea about what happened ?
Do you know how to reset something ?
Do you know what those 6 flashes mean ?
I read restoration CD can be used while status is displaying 3 short flahes, 3 long flashes. Does it work on a dead MacBook ?
Thanks a lot in advance everyone !

Sounds like a simple dead motherboard, there's no better explanation than that, I'm afraid. If you didn't get AppleCare, then you're out of luck.

There are a number of hardware devices that you may want to look at. Some of them require that the iPhone be placed into a "base station" in order to work. Following is one set of possibilities: http://www.harriscomm.com/index.php/equipment/cell-phones-accessories/cell-phone -accessories/loud-ringers.html
If you do an internet search for something like "ringer for cell phone in home" you will find a variety of others.

  • Flashing Status Light

    Hi,
I switched on my Mac Pro today (after using it yesterday) and it won't start; no starting chime or anything.  All I have is the status light above the ON switch is flashing continuously; there is no pattern to the flashing as suggested in the user guide - it just flashes constantly.
I have disconnected all external devices and re-seated the memory cards and PCI Card for my eSATA drive but the Mac will not start and the light continues to flash.
I'd be grateful for any ideas or suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Cliff

Specifically which mac pro model do you have?
There are other diagnostic leds on the processor board besides those near the dimms.  Look carefully around for others that may be lit.

  • Z61t Battery flashing amber light - error detected - on two batteries

I had this z61t for a year and a half and this is the second big problem i have with it. It had a board failiure withing 3 months of having purchased.
5 days ago i noticed the battery led, started quickly flashing amber, i unplugged the power cord and the laptop inmediately died. Dust it, cleaned the battery connectors, and the system continued the quick amber flash. We have two more of this at the office, so i borrowed another battery, that I'm certain works with same results, except that this time the amber flashing seems a bit slower.
I installed the Lenovo Power Manaer, and I get an error detected message (big red x) on the battery. I don't think the problem is the battery, and the system is out of warranty now. I have been able to use the system with the power cord, but i'm constantly in the move and do need to get the system to sleep to transport it.
What's the best way to corect this problem?
    Help much appreciated.

    Ultrasi,
If you have checked the battery in other Z61t systems and have proper operation, then it sounds like the charging circuit in your system could be bad.   I assume you have also checked the output of your AC adapater with a digital volt meter?
If the AC and battery check out, then it's likely the motherboard which would need to be replaced.
I would suggest you contact service.  If you are outside warranty, then you may want to explore your options in terms of purchasing out of warranty parts through Lenovo or external sources and replacing the board yourself, or sending the system in for out of warranty service through the Lenovo repair center or one of our service partners.  You can visit our support site and put in the model type of your system, and then choose the part list link to find the FRU (service part) number for the system board / planar.
I certainly appreciate your trepidation upon experiencing this failure outside of warranty.   Extended warranties are often cost effective ways to extend the useful life of systems.
    Lulu,
I believe your battery is defective and may be covered by the special service tip.   HERE is the link.    While I understand your desire to express your disappointment with this matter, I hope that you will benefit from the advice offered to you here.

  • Uninstalled IE with flash player, installed firefox and added flash player - doesn't work!

    Hey guys,
I have just used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove IE 9 (I think ... it's the standard built in IE taht comes with my Win7 Home Premium 64 bit OS).  I had flash player installed in IE.  Upon uninstalling all flash components from my computer using Revo, I did an "advanced" search to find all leftover registry entries and files/folders associated with Flash.  While doing this, Revo had warned me of some files that "have recently been added" (I believe since initial installation of Flash), and gave me the option of deleting these one at a time.  I cannot remember what these files included, but looking at a posting from another person, i seem to recognize some files that I *may* have deleted while removing with Revo:
    Flash10d.ocx
    Flash10e.ocx
    FlashUtil10e.exe
    GetFlash.man
    install.log
    swflash.inf
    uninstall_activeX.exe
(again, I have no idea if ANY of the above were the actual ones I deleted, but I seem to remember seeing a couple of these at least listed to me as options to delete)
I proceeded to remove ALL files from my computer.
Then, upon installing Firefox and, subsequently installing flash on it, I noticed that some flash websites load and work properly, whereas other ones don't.  I also been to the adobe confirmation page stating taht I have successfully installed and am running Adobe Flash player.  Is this simply a case of missing one key component in flash?
Before the entire uninstall mission I did, I remember revo as listing more than 1 Flash programs installed.  I believe I had seen two flash 11 programs installed in Revo, which I thought were just simply duplicate installations.  I vaguely remember one of them being listed as Flash player 11 and the other as Flash player 11 activex?  (both were removed off my system).
Are these files different and did I, in fact, need both of these installed?
Anyway, I have no idea where to go from here.  Help please!
    Thanks!

So what Flash Player version do you have currently installed?

What exactly do you see on sites that don't work?

  • Please help...  GiO not working properly with Mainstage.  GiO lights errors, and Gio Disconnected errors.

I have a gig ion 11/22, and I am DESPERATE TO FIX THIS....
    Mainstage 3
    Brand new Macbook air
    Brand new Apogee Gio
I've tried multiple reloads of the software
    2 macbook air 13"
    and 6 GiOs.
These things aren't talking to each other.
I bought the laptop SOLELY to run mainstage.  No other garbage is cluttering the box.
I have 1 concert file, with 50 songs (Patches)
Each patch has a few pedals configured on the layout screen, which are linked to the Pedalboard in Mainstage for various effects
AT MOST, I have 1-2 channel strips PER PATCH...  Nothing seriously tasking on the CPU.
THe CPU meter shows <20% capacity, always.  Usually <10%
A few of the patches have a channel strip with a 3 second .wav file (audio channel strip)  NOTHING HUGE AT ALL.
    Problems scenarios:
    1.  MAINSTAGE FREEZES ON LOAD = 3% of the time....
Mainstage freezes at starup..  Jams on the "loading MIDI" message.  happens 3% of the time.
    2. MAINSTAGE reports "GiO has been disconnected" = 100% of the time...
I can sometimes play for 1 hour, no issues.... then all of the sudden, I hit a Gio Button, and i get the "Gio has been disconnected" message. I cannot play a gig, without this failing...    I have to REBOOT mainstage to get the stuff talking again, sometimes I have to RESET the Gio too (by holding a button and pulling/attaching the USB)  Sometimes Mainstage reconnects itself to Gio, most times I have to reboot everything.
    3.  GiO LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING. = 80% of the time.
Sometimes while I'm playing, the lights on the Gio fail to cycle when I press the buttons...  The lights on the MAINSTAGE screen layout behaive correctly, and the audio output is modified correctly when the buttons are pushed.... but the Gio foot switch lights fail to cycle.  For a particular song/patch, sometimes they work, other times they wont.
I've had Apogee tech support working on this to no avail.
They told me to unplug other usb devices.
    Try new cables.
Increase the buffer size to 256 from 128 (which i did, but the latency/delay is unacceptable, and the problem still persisted anyway.)

    Super,
I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina and an Apogee Gio and use Mainstage 3 under Mavericks (OS X 10.9.1).  I am experiencing similar problems to yours so I do not believe it is a problem with your particular machine or set up.  I have been using Mainstage and the Gio for a few years under Snow Leopard and Mainstage 2 without these particular issues.
I am having the same hang on 'waiting for midi' at startup when the Gio is plugged into the USB port.   This seems to be occurring more and more.  I tried both ports on the Macbook Pro and it occurs on both of them sporadically.  I would say maybe 10% of the time.   I have discovered if you unplug the Gio usb cable at this point and plug it back in it will allow sometimes allow Mainstage to finish booting up.
The Gio is disconnected message I only had one time.  Only appeared the very first time I was using it on my new system.  I believe this was under Mavericks 10.9 (not 10.9.1).  I haven't been getting that message since.
The Lights on the Gio hardware unit and Mainstage do not appear to be working properly here as well.  They seem to work properly for a while but then they lose sync with the templates.  I initially thought this might be caused by my particular custom template.   I tested today using the stock Gio Mainstage template from Apogee and the lights begin to lose sync on the Gio.  Buttons mapped to various pedals or amp settings on the Gio will sometimes stay on when they are supposed to go off or visa versa.  Using the looping functions the various foot pedal buttons sometimes display incorrectly (on when they are supposed to be off).
I believe the problems are  with Apogee's Gio driver or a software issue with Mavericks.
I have filled out a feedback form to report this to Apple.  I would recommend you do this as well so they know it is an issue.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/
I would also contact Apogee and see if they have an updated driver coming soon or if they have any other recommendations.
If you resolve this issue or hear anything, please post.  Thanks.

  • Bootcamp rumor? and adding memory

so i was at my local apple store talking to one of the employees about my issue of wanting to install leopard and reinstall windows through bootcamp, but the only program I need to use on that dreaded OS is AutoCAD, Viz, and Revit(extremely heavy 2d and 3d modeling programs). Now i currently am running all of this successfully on my MBP but because of it's age, the time has come to add some more memory in my empty slot.
When i was talking to this blue shirted mac "expert" he recommended to keep using bootcamp after installing my new memory along with leopard and there should be no problems. when i asked him his opinion on VMWare Fusion and Parallels, he said there is no need because I can run bootcamp as an application just like fusion or parallels. is this true or is this "expert" pulling my leg?
Also, he never gave me any advice as to when i should install my new memory, either before or after my leopard install.
any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I would strip the "expert" of his stripes until they attend some classes on running Windows on Mac.
Prepare for the worst; but hope for the best.
Windows should not need activation but it may want to create a larger page file.
Installing, or updating to Leopard, 'should' be pain-free, but some people lost their BootCamp partition. Perhaps the partition tables were updated and going from Beta 1.x to Leopard ran into a snafu.
In any event, I would backup both partitions before upgrading. SuperDuper or something for OS X side, and WinClone 2.x for Windows.
    http://www.twocanoes.com
A VM won't give you the performance you need for your programs so you are still going to have to dual-boot.
I would install and test out your system first with the new memory, as long as it meets or exceeds specs and is compatible with your existing memory, but maybe do so after you have backups. (Too often people don't insure that they have a working bootable backup it seems.) You could also run Apple Hardware Test and Memtest just to give your RAM and system a good workout.

  • Red light showing from processor/memory board

    This hasn't happened before. I don't know what it means. It's a MacPro5,1 (mid 2010) single 3.33GHz.

Assuming that the issue is overheating (since it isn't missing ), there are three fans cooling the processor; the intake fan, the exhaust fan, and something called BOOSTA, which is inside the CPU heatsink. I'd suggest checking that all three are working and that the heatsink is not clogged with dust, inside or out. Then, look into smcFan Control to control fan speeds. If speeding up the fans to a reasonable level turns the LED off (considering ambient temperature and workload), that might be all that's necessary. But since it's still covered, it might pay to have Apple look at it anyway, if you're up to lugging it in. As someone who also has the 2010 Mac Pro, I can appreciate the effort.

  • Status light flashing

My Apple TV was set up and working fine.  I attempted to move it to another TV and now I have a fast flashing status light and no picture.  Imoved the device back to the original TV and still have the same problem.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

  • Laptop blank screen flashing led lights

The HP dv7 laptop blank/black screen with the continuously flashing CapsLk & Num Lock led lights is probably indicative of an overheated graphics processing unit (gpu) on the system/mother board. On the one that I am trying to repair it is an ATI gpu.  The gpu is built into the system/mother board.
If laptop gpu is failing then the blinking diagnostic code of the CapsLk & Num lock led lights blinking once would seem to apply. Why even though led lights are flashing continuously? Because the laptop boot tries to load through the gpu via the cpu and fails which thereby triggers the one flashing light then it retries flashing the light again (and again and again continuously).  As other posters have commented HP did not seem to care about a design flaw so they hesitate and ignore that fact – they will often tell you that the system/mother board needs replacement. As a matter of record you can see another thread (http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Blinking-caps-and-num-lock-lights/m-p/29560#M3853) that has 19 pages of posts with over 230,00 views – unfortunately it has been deemed read only by the HP forum now.
I would refrain from an exact duplicate replacement motherboard without proof that the gpu has been corrected on the replacement board.  Ebay has a number of replacement system/mother boards that are less than the over $300 price that HP has quoted for the repair.  There has even been a listing for an upgraded board that deals specifically with the gpu issue.  If the laptop has 17” monitor like the dv7 it may be very well worth replacing the system/mother board.

I have a little more to add
If I turn it on normally, nothing happens on the memory stick (no lights or anything)
If I turn it on while holding down Windows and B, the memory stick turns on after about 15-20 seconds, the light flashes for about 5 seconds then it stops flashing, it just sits on a solid light.
Its almost as if it is searching the memory stick for the files but fails to find them.
I used sp65000.exe to create the recovery stick
