Powermac G4 and Wireless USB Adapter

Hi
I have upgraded my Powermac G4  Dual 450 to OSX 10.4.9 (10.5 still won't go on even with Leopard Assist?). Anyway, I bought a USB adapter to try to connect to the internet (Lm Technologies 802.11N 150Mbps Fast Wireless NANO USB Adapter). Does anyone know how I set this up? It appears as a choice under Ethernet in the Network settings under System preferences but I have no idea what settings to use. The disc with the drivers only has info on how to get it running in Windows. I did go back to the seller but as yet no response.
As for Leopard, I still get what I always got when trying to install. The grey box with the multilingual message telling you to shut the machine down plus lots of text over the top. Without booting it up I remember the last line says 'we're hanging in there'. Not sure if it is an open firmware message or something. The general theme is one of 'this isn't going to work'.
Thanks
Phil.

That gray box with various languages is a kernel panic.
You have hardware that is incompatible with the Leopard software that you are using.
Whether the issue is the Leopard disc is not retail (gray, OEM disc), or, if you have incompatible third party hardware installed, only you know.

  • How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps

How to get an N wireless USB adapter to transfer data faster that 54 Mbps? I am running FIOS 10/2 and connected to a ActionTec  M1424WR router. Any help will be appreciated.

I have to ask the question, why are you in need of 802.11N speeds?  Are you transferring lots of files between other PC's on your network or are you simply connecting to the Internet.
Remember if your Internet speed is 10/2 which means 10 meg down and 2 meg up having 300 meg capability WLAN connection will not be noticeable.   Your bottleneck is your Internet connection of 10/2.

  • Need mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter TL-WN7200ND

i need Mac driver for TP-Link Wireless USB adapter model no TL-WN7200ND

First of all, TP-Link does not provide OS X drivers for that adapter. However, there are other sources that have drivers like this one. It is not official and it may fail, but it has been tested by other users and it works correctly.

  • Problems with wireless usb adapter on MSI K8NGM-V

    Hi!
I have a 3Com (3crusb20075) wireless usb adapter, and a MSI K8NGM-V Mainboard. Very often the usb disconnects from the network and i have to reinsert it to work again. A friend of mine have the exact same adapter and that one fails too. He uses mine without problems. I therefore belive that this is a problem with the usb ports on my mainboard. Have anyone heard of anything like this? I wanted to try to update my bios but i don't have a floppy so msi live update wouldnt let me, and i could find the bios files on the msi webpage so i cant burn them on a bootable cd. Help please
(I trying turning of power save mode on the usb adapter, without any luck. Tested it in linux. Same result)

The ability to access the network, but not the Internet, typically indicates that the computer is not able to either find or negotiate with the DNS servers. The proper DNS servers would be provided by your ISP using DHCP. In turn, the AirPort would use DHCP to provide these to both the wired & wireless computers connected to it.
    Please try the following:
For each PC that is unable to access the Internet, temporarily include the following OpenDNS servers:
    o Primary: 208.67.222.222
    o Secondary: 208.67.220.220
You would enter these in the network TCP/IP settings for the respective PC's wireless network adapters. You may need to restart the computer in order for these DNS settings to "stick." After restarting, can you access the Internet with either or both of them?

  • Need a wireless usb adapter that works with my iMac G4 Flatscreen

I have an iMac without an airport card. I am trying to find a thrid party solution. Does anyone know of a third party wireless usb adapter that works with my Mac?
    Linda

Hi Bill I noticed that list you posted mainly shows devices that require purchasing 3rd party drivers from companies such as ioxperts.
If you use a device that has ralink chipset you can use their drivers free of charge.

  • Can someone recommend a good wireless usb adapter for an iMac?

I would rather use a wireless usb adapter instead of having to purchase an airport card. Thanks a lot in advance for your assistance,
    Christine

This is the discussion area for Intel-based iMacs. Since you have an iMac G5 you probably want to make any future posts in the iMac G5 discussion area.
Its probably cheaper to get an AirPort Extreme card but you might want to take a look at www.macwireless.com

  • I recently purchased an Onkyo stereo receiver with a wireless USB adapter, UWF-1, and want to stream audio from my MacBook Pro through my stereo system. The receiver tells me it is connected to my wireless LAN, but I cannot get music to play?

New to the community here, thanks for your patience.  I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-8050 Network Stereo Receiver with the UWF-1 USB adapter with the intent to stream audio from my MacBook Pro to the stereo. I have gone through the setup instructions for the adapter and the receiver gives me a message saying that it is connected to the password protected network, but that is as far as I can get.
I have gone into iTunes and clicked on the "Open Stream" option, but I just get a pop up box labeled "URL" that is empty. I have Home Sharing turned on and File Sharing turned on, but I am not seeing the receiver in my Finder window or as a iTunes device.
I would appreciate any and all advice and assistance.
    Thanks so much.
    Dan

So I have been searching the iStore for Airplay and I find lots of information about what it is, but nothing about how much it costs, how/where to buy it, etc.?
Fortunately, AirPlay does not cost anything as it is a streaming protocol used by Apple. Currently, the AirPort Express and Apple TV are AirPlay-ready. A number of other companies, like JBL, iHome, Denon and Klipsch are also rumored to be working on AirPlay versions of their products.
Your other option would be to get an AirPort Express and connect it to your Onkyo analog or optical digital audio input and stream from iTunes that way. I currently do this with my 10+ year old Harmon Kardon HT receiver.

  • How to get wireless usb adapter linksys working to get on internet?

Hi, does anybody know any general way to get my linksys wireless g usb adapter to work on Solaris 10? I plug it in and nothing happens. This is a question
Edited by: Usulyre on Nov 4, 2007 9:56 PM

A general option would be to search the HCL on bigadmin.com and buy/swap/barter for a supported adapter.
Another option is to switch to OpenSolaris and search the aforementioned opensolaris community for supported hardware and then buy/swap/barter for supported hardware.

  • Wireless USB adapter

I got this USB wirelss adapter,
    Linksys WUSB11
    Wireless USB Network Adapter
Is this Solaris friendly? If not, which brand (wireless PCI/usb cards) I should try here?
    Thanks

    Hello.
Wireless LAN is not widely supported for Solaris.
I've ported a driver for USB WLAN devices using the ZD1211 chip from Linux to Solaris. Currently only devices that additionally use the AL2230 chip are supported (see "zd1211sol" project in SourceForge).
The driver works under OpenSolaris/x86 but it makes a lot of problems under Solaris 9/Sparc. It is not known how it works under Solaris 10 or OpenSolaris/Sparc.
It is a beta driver that still has bugs and it is not supported by Sun.

  • OS X driver for Airlink AWLL6070 wireless USB adapter?

Is there any one know the Driver for Lion and SL for Airlink wireless AWLL6070 USB adapter.  Airlink web site does not show any Mac driver support.  I use this adapter in window and it works fine. I want to use it on Mac too.

    kappy,
just like you mentioned, the driver did not work.  I force my lion boot into 32-bit mode but it didn't work as well.  I look at the /var/log/install
    "PKLeopardPackage <file://localhost/Users/john/Downloads/MAC-airlink-awll5077/10.6/Installer.pkg# rtl8192sus.pkg>"
    It was installing rtl8192sus.pkg
I believe it is driver for realtek chip.
I somehow spot in system profile that airlink awll6070's manufacture chip is Ralink.
    802.11 n WLAN:

      Version:          1.01
      Serial Number:          1.0
      Speed:          Up to 480 Mb/sec

      Location ID:          0x1d110000 / 4
      Current Available (mA):          500
      Current Required (mA):          450
I search ralink.com and found that there is a driver for mac.
    http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3
I download and install 10.6 version of driver on Lion. well, it seems to work now.
I forced my system to boot into 32-bit because one of the driver did not work in 64-bit mode.
I will give it a try to boot into 64-bit mode to see if it work.

  • Trying to connect to internet via rokair wireless usb adapter

I have a graphite clamshell ibook g3. I got it in 2000 and it did the job for me back then. it was great. In 2005 I upgraded the os to 10.3. now i would just like to be able to connect to the internet wirelessly (to linksys cisco router for comcast) to do simple things online, nothing fancy. rather than pay for an airport card (which it didnt come with) and hub, i just bought a rokair usb adapter. My ibook only has 1 usb port and its indented so the rokair people sent me a 1ft usb 2.0 wire to attach to the adapter. Ive installed the driver for os 10.3 but the computer does not recognize the usb adapter. Its still giving me as "internal modem" and "built-in ethernet" as my only options in the network folder. Is the computer not recognizing the USB 2.0? IS it even possible to upgrade this computer to acknowledge this type of USB?
    Thanks

saltyspicegirl, Welcome to the discussion area!
Your iBook has USB 1.1. That adapter appears to be backward compatible with USB 1.1 so that shouldn't be a problem.
You probably should contact their support to see if they can offer any suggestions.

  • [SOLVED] Wireless USB adapter

I just bought a gigabyte aircruiser N300 usb adapter to increase the wireless signal.
But i cant get to work. I tried disabling the onboard wireless card. and used the command hwdetect --show -net, and checked what was new after i plugged in the adapter. it was only rt2800usb. I added that to the module and rebooted, but i still dont see any wlan when i type sudo ifconfig.
    What am i doing wrong?

Okey, i get mixed answers here.
I got it to work yesterday. after i did sudo yaourt -S rt2870. but then i disconnected it to check if it really was the usb adapter. and i t was. but after a reboot its gone again.
which logs can i check? i can see the usb adapter with lsusb. but dmesg have ALOT of output and i dont know what to look for.
edit:my newbie guess is that the onboard wlan card and usb adapter is in conflict. and is it possible to have 2 wlan cards active?
edit2: this USB adapter is using RT2870 . is that in the kernel? and why should i use rt2800usb then?RT2870

  • Dell wireless 1450 wireless usb adapter

Hello, I recently bought the airport extreme and can get connected fine with my macbook, but when I try to connect the Dell PC using the Dell wireless 1450 usb adapter I can´t find the network, eventhough it finds other networks. I have tried with not having password protection and still nothing. would be great if anyone had a solution to this problem, thx in advance Kolmodin!

further info: wireless windows configuration is on, advanced settings set to any avialable network and nonpreffered net on auto, powersaves off, ap's us a ssid but are not encrypted no wep, ap's have to be added to the wireless networks via the properties of the network connection and when the signal is dropping it loses the wireless networks tab in this menu as well.

  • Setting up wireless usb adapter

I have now purchased 2 Wireless USB Adapters in an attempt to wireless enable my old imac. The first product called the Etec Mac Compatible Wireless 802.11G USB dongle would not work. After being sent a CD with Windows only software I was told by the supplier to go to Etec's website and download the mac driver. I tried installing the driver but there seems to be a problem with the ZD WLAN software and I get no drop down items in the menu to configure the adapter.
The supplier has now sent me a Zyxel G202 802.11g adapter and again - the disc with this product has no mac softare only windows. So I've found the Zyxel website and downloaded the mac driver only to find it is exactly the same driver I was told to use with the Etec product. I've uninstalled the Etec download and installed the Zyxel download but get exactly the same problem. The version I've downloaded is ZD1211MacPkginstall_4_5_7_0_OSX103
Does anyone know how to setup either the Etec of the Zyxel adapter for my imac which is OSX 10.3?

Many thanks for your reply. I've just tried linking directly to the hub with an ethernet cable and that works fine. I don't know what security the hub has - not sure how to find out. The friend who lent me the netgear wireless ethernet bridge is a network consultant and could not get connected to the hub. We can connect to my neighbour's wireless network which is not a BT Homehub network so the problem lies with the BT Homehub but BT could not advise me.
I would prefer not to use a cable to connect as it is difficult to get this under the floor etc and the whole reason for getting the homehub was to create a wireless network. So I'm still searching for a wireless solution.

  • PowerMac 7600 and PCI USB 2 Card

About a year ago I upgraded my daughter's PowerMac 7600 with 512 of RAM and Sonnet Crescendo G4 1GHz Card. Using XPostFacto 4 I installed MacOS X Tiger. After resolving a few issues it's been a year of nice performance for this machine (with zero manteinance). So I decided to fully upgrade it with another 512 of RAM, add an ATI PCI 7000 Radeon and a PCI Firewire/USB 2 Tango Card. The Hard Drive is a 60GB Maxtor with two partitions: One for Mac OS 9.1 and the other for Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11.
After the upgrade I've noticed that when connecting devices to the USB ports under Mac OS X Tiger the Finder tends to freeze and even the whole System so I have to force restart. When using the USB ports under Mac OS 9.1 it works fine.
I've used a generic USB MP3 player (DOS formatted), an Apollo imation USB Drive (Mac formatted) and a USB Flash Wristband (Mac formatted).
The machine configuration is as follows:
PowerMac 7600 with Sonnett Crescendo G4 1GHz Card
8 128 MB RAM Modules for 1GB of Memory (All from OWC, same specs)
Sonnet Tempo Ultra ATA 66 PCI Card
    ATI Radeon 7000 PCI Card
Sonnet Tango Firewire/USB 2 PCI Card
    Maxtor 60GB IDE Hard Drive
    LaCie CDRW IDE Drive
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for all your help!

The specs on the PCI card state:
    Mac Compatibility
Power Mac® G3 (Blue & White)(2) and Power Mac G4 (with PCI slots)
Power Mac G5 (with PCI or PCI-X slots)
    Mac OS® X Version 10.5.2+, 10.4(3), or 10.3(3)
Mac OS 9 (at USB 1.1 speed)
However, just because older PM 7600s are not listed, it appears to be hardware compatible. It could be something related to the fact that you used XPostFacto to run OS 10.4. Many older PMs could only use 2-port USB PCI cards. On my old PM 6500, I used a Belkin model F5U005 2-port USB PCI card. I don't know if this card would provide USB 2.0 when running 10.4.
