PowerMac G4 desktop won't power on

Went to turn on my powermac G4 and nothing happened. No Light, no noise, nothing. Could this be a power supply or swithch problem?

You can convert an ATX PSU for use on a G4...

  • Desktop won't power on/Green light will light up a little/fan spins a little?

Trying to help a friend, with an HP computer. Forgot to get the model number. It won't start up, I can momentarily get the green light on the power supply to go on, and the fan runs momentarily. It won't start up.
Would you think it was the power supply or the motherboard? Any Suggestions.
    Thanks Bruce

    Hello brucefl,
I have read your post on how your friend's computer will not power on, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
Since the fan spins a little bit with the green light, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start (Windows 7) or for (Windows 8). This resource should help power on your desktop, or specify if there is a hardware defect attributing to the issue.
For further assistance, I will need to know:
The Product and Model Number of your desktop computer.
The version of Windows you have installed on your computer.
If this is an on-going, or recent issue.
If you have added any new hardware or software recently to your computer.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • Powermac G4 MDD won't power on after moving to another building

Hi all. My MDD dual 1Ghz machine was running like a champ at home, then I decided it would get more use as the main recording and editing machine at church. So, i pack it up take it to church, plug it in, and i get a little light then nothing. It takes a few pushes of the button to finally get it to spur to life. Any idea why just moving to another building would cause this? I took it back home and it works fine...any suggestions will be helpful

  • My G4 desktop won't  cold start. I have to plug in to the outlet for about 15 minutes every time. Can anyone explain why?

My G4 desktop won't cold start. I have to plug in to the outlet for about 15 minutes every time. Can anyone explain why? Otherwise, the desktop runs fine.
The battery is new, and I zapped the little button on the main board once. I've noticed that the power supply plug is a little longer than the usual one for G4, and the AGP slot has an extra slot, which is black and about half inch long.

    Hi Ursula,
the AGP slot has an extra slot, which is black and about half inch long.
I believe that is for ADC Monitor power if you had one, or a card with ADC, like the little tab on this one...
I think your startup problem is bad capacitors in the power supply or on the logic board, and the need to bleed off their charge before they work right to start.

  • Extenal HDD won't power up

Hello I am in desperate need of help/advice. I have an External HDD that I borrowed from a family member to grab some photos from them. I just came back from a trip only to discover the Hard Drive Won't power up, even though it was working perfectly fine before the vacation.
The power cord's light is glowing however when i press the on/off button on the harddrive itself the light on the harddrive won't go nor would it register on my computer. is there any possible way to power up/fix my hard drive if not extract all of the data on this harddrive and put it on a new one... I would hate being the one who caused my family member to lose all of those photos AND memories.
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi
What to say buddy the story sounds not good.
If you cannot power on the external HDD and it does not appear in My Computer then the chances are that your external HDD has died.
According to your posting it must be a 3.5 HDD. Maybe it could be possible to remove the HDD from the case and to connect it to the desktop PC using a IDE cable to check if it could be possible to get access the HDD.
    But this is only theory.
Anyway, it looks not good and I assume its a hardware issue.

  • DV2000 has a bad hdd that won't power up

This DV2000 i'm working on has a bad hdd that won't power up & used a usb device to clarify the issue.
Shouldn't the system bootup to bio's even though the hdd is gone?
Worked on alot of desktops & I know they should boot to bio's so you can set the hdd to auto.
This thing now won't even bootup to the bio's, just a black screen with all light's lit up on keyboard & on front.
It beeps 2 short beeps  (very low beeps). No loud annoying beeps like i've read on here & the support site.
I'm pretty sure it's not a overheating gpu issue.
Hooked it up to an external monitor & stll won't show a screen as long as I entered the right keys.
Thank's for any comments you might have.

First thing, see if it will boot into the Recovery Partition: Hold down Command R at restart.
If it boots up there, then it's likely that the hard drive has failed, or simply doesn't have a working system.
If it doesn't boot up there, then it's likely to be some other part of the hardware.
If it is the hard drive, then this can be replaced. You can find videos showing you how to do this on sites like ifixit.com.
Then you can just restore all your data from your backup. You do have a backup, right?

  • Computer won't power on - sleeping?

My s3320f desktop is about 6 years old and I'm having a problem now where the computer won't power on. The amber light on the PSU comes on steady but nothing else happens. I had put the computer to sleep using the start button and it powered down normal (there is no light on the power button - should it be amber?). Any suggestions on how to get this computer to power on? I've tried a new power cord, holding the power button for 30 seconds w/o being plugged in, and  a new CMOS battery. In the past, I sometimes get a flashing amber power button and have to cut power to get it to stop - does that indicate anything?

    Hello tizzy,
I have read your post on how your computer is not able to power on, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! To begin, I will need to ask you a few questions:
Is this an on-going, or recent issue?
Have you added any new software or hardware recently to your desktop?
Is your computer plugged directly into a wall outlet?
In the meantime, I recommend following this document on Computer Does Not Start (Windows Vista). This should help enable your computer to startup once again.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information above. I look forward to your reply!

  • My desktop will not power on!!!

My computer won't power on! 3 year old desktop, no previous issues. Left it in sleep mode yesterday and today it will not power on, no sound, no fan...dead. I tried a new power cord and I tried the unplug and hold in the power button. Help!!

I tried it but when I plug the cord back in and press the power button, nothing happens. I still tried pressing the button combo you mentioned but still nothing happened. I also tried plugging in the computer in a different room just in case it was a bad circuit...still no luck.

  • MDD won't power up, even after battery replaced?? Help!!

Hi everyone. I use a MDD 1.25 GHz G4 at work and when I got in this morning the thing wouldn't turn on. After reading numerous forums, I tried the PMU reset button and changed the battery, and still nothing. I've read numerous others that say that they push the power button and it lights up for a second and then shuts off. Well, mine doesn't even light up at all!! I've tried different power cords, even tried an old keyboard with the power button on it, just in case the power button on the G4 was bad. Still no luck!! Could the power supply be bad? I need to advise my boss quickly on this so we know which direction to go from here. He was ready to buy a new one, but I'm trying to save him some money, as we are a smaller company. Anyways, hope one of you gurus can help. Thanks in advance...

Fix for a Mac that won't power up
Mirrored Doors G4. When you pressed the power button, the button would light up, but the computer would not turn on. The fans on the power supply wouldn't turn on.
FIX: unplug the machine, pull the clock battery, hit the power button to discharge. Then plug it in without the clock battery. The machine should boot perfectly. Shut down, reinstall the clock battery, and now the system is fully functional. Macosxhints
