PowerMac G4 (Gigabit E) Network Drops

Hi all,
I can see my G4 icon on my network but then it drops. When I restart the G4 it connects online for a short time then drops again. It's on a 10 baseT 3Com 8port hub connected to a Westell DSL modem. Please help
Thanks
Web dude

Want real airport speed, and not some PCI ethernet device? Get the Belkin F5D7001 with the Broadcomm chipset. The card will work as if you had an airport extreme inside your machine. Actually, this is a G+ based card.

  • Windows 2008 R2, Network drops even after rebuild, Please help to diagnose

    Hi there,
I've had an issue for a while now and I have been working through it and I'm getting lost and starting to go around in circles.
    I have just rebuild up a Server 2008 R2 x64
    Configuration is
Server: HP Prolient ML330 G6 Quad core xeon 24GB ram (between 2-3 Years Old)
    HDD: Raid1 500GB
    ip: 192.168.1.253
    su: 255,255,255.0
    gw: 192.168.1.1
dns 1: 192.168.1.253 (Was 127.0.0.1) please read on!!!
    dns 2: empty
Roles and SW: AD DC, DNS, DHCP and Exchange Server (in 1 box)
My original issue was network dropping out every few weeks, progressively got worse to being daily. Restarts would fix it, tho would disconnect after hours or a day or 2.
Issues would be that during a network outage, I cannot connect workstations to domain, no network shares. Internet was dead, and a heap of Event ID errors
Server rebuild went well, It's a 2008 R2 setup and it runs basically everything in 1 server 2008 R2.. I know its not ideal but it's what they had setup previously.
So After rebuild I was using it for hours and hours and configuring, adding, cleaning, updating. All was good.
I was restoring of some emails and system was loaded medium to high for a while.
I went home thinking all was good and might connect via VPN and do some work and monitor it all, The vpn disconnected after a few minutes.
I called their office and asked is all normal?
They said network shares and emails have stopped. I confirmed this as the network would do the same thing it was doing before the rebuild.
So I restarted the server and Internet/Network drops within minutes of being restarted. tried many things to solve this..
hours later I installed known hotfixes, updated drivers, and tried so many other things to try and solve this...
I had heaps of Event ID errors before the rebuild, and trying to ping anyone was resulting in General Errors, and cannot ping basically
After the rebuild it has same sorts of event id errors. I had same general errors when trying to ping.
In the end at 2am 2 weeks ago, I finally got it running smoother..
I did 2 things which have made the network last longer then few minutes...
    1. Disabled the Network Port 1 and Enabled the 2nd Port. (Both On board FYI)
    2. Changed DNS in the TCPIPv4 from 127.0.0.1 to (192.168.1.253 (Servers IP))
Since this change, I no longer get event ID errors.
When network stops working the network icon stays normal.
And network is lasting days rather then hours.
Things I've spoken to others about,
    - 127.0.0.1 and changing to 192.168.1.253 these 2 are basically the same both being loopback to server. They both point to itself..
    - The fact the problems reappeared after a rebuild points towards hardware
    - I think the summer heat might have cooked the NIC :p as same day the server crapped itself my clients home wifi setup also died. The range extender died! weird coincidence
    - So I am seriously thinking it cannot be the DNS IP Configuration setting, I know that running all roles on a single server is hard for a server. But I find it hard to believe it was the DNS which caused this error
I have continued to work on this issue through the weeks.,
    The following information is newest
    28th March,
After 2 days of sweet operation.. IE Just after the switch to 2nd port.
    The server's network went down..,
I can ping only 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.253 ok
but ping gateway or workstations times out.
Netstat shows heaps of ipv6 and very few ipv4 addresses
I restarted the server, applying computer settings sat there for a while..
dunno if it was coincidence or not but unplugging the Gateway and replugging it made the CTRL-ALT-DEL come up right away.
after boot everything has been ok for 14 hours now...
Now the Network Ports (2 of them are on the server, most likely sharing controller)
Please take a look at my ping/netstat and please make any comments.

A HEAP MORE IPv6 but msg too long
I have noticed currently using the Cisco Gigabit switch the network will last 24-48 hours.
    3th April
I have tested a 10/100 16port netgear and the network lasted for 5+ Days.
    8th April
I noticed network and sharing centre icon has no exclaimation mark looked normal.. so on server I tried to open google website.
    Nothing....
    I pinged loopback. was ok
Ping the modem and not ok.
So I restarted the adsl modem. Within a minute server resumed internet..
I am unsure if the router caused this dropout. And my thinking spans now using a maximum speed of 100mbps it has taken 5 days to drop. WHY is this?
Either the modem is causing this. Or its the server nic running at only 100mbps
    Does it make any sence?
Can a nic on server cause a drop only to restart the gateway to make it startup again.
From my post do you think the port on the gateway is flaky? As you said maybe too much for it to handle.
The modem has 4 lan ports.
Would it make sence to connect more than 1 lan cable from switch to modem?
    Thankyou
    Cheers

Make sure you have the latest ROM bios and proliant support pack.

Install the rom bios, then easiest to boot the HP smartstart to prepare for operating system deployment, then install the complete PSP next.

  • S20 Lan Network drops out after Windows 10 upgrade

Upgrade went ok and everything seems to work ok, but the network drops out after some downloads. Adapter gets disabled and cannot be enabled unless i perform a reboot. The network adapter is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. Installed the latest Lenovo System Update but that did not find any new drivers.

The network speed went down from approx 50 Mbps to 1.8 Mbps after the upgrade! So it is surely a network driver problem.

When I switch my time capsule to 5.0ghz mode the range of my wireless network drops significantly.  Near the Time Capsule my Macbook Pro works fine, in my bedroom I have almost no signal.  In mixed mode it works fine both placed.  Any ideas on how to get 5.0 working?  I thought 5.0Ghz was supposed to have a wider range.  Do I need to change a setting on the Macbook Pro?
    Thanks, W

I'm not sure if you understand that 5 GHz has some upsides, but also some very significant downsides.
The upside is that the 5 GHz signal will allow faster speeds.
The downside is that you must always give up something in order to gain something else.Unfortunately, the marketing hype about 5 GHz does not go into very many details about this.
In the case of 5 GHz, the 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so they do not travel as far or penetrate any obstructions like walls or ceilings nearly as well as 2.4 GHz signals. In many cases, in order to get good 5 Ghz performance, you literally have to have almost a line-of-sight relationship between your computer and the wireless router.
If you have a new dual band router, which broadcasts both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simutaneously, your Mac will connect to the best signal quality automatically depending on its location in relation to the router. In the same room, without any obstructions, it will connec to 5 GHz. But, take the laptop down the hall a few rooms and around the corner and the Mac will connect to the 2.4 GHz signal because at that location, the 2.4 GHz signal is not only stronger, it is also faster.

  • Network dropping with WRT54GS

The network drops 3-4 times daily.  Got this router, as an upgrade from the B, about 2 months ago.
The only way to get the network back is to unplug all cables, pull the power, let it reset, then do a repair on the Local area Connection.
I am securing it with a WEP key, it has a SSID, other than that if you can help me I can give more information.
It drops for all three computers on the network.  The desktop is physically connected, and the two laptops are wirelessly connected.
    Please help this extremely frustrating.

I'm having the same problem on my end.
This has been a problem with Linksys routers for some years now. First one I had back in 2002/2003 had the same problems and they never were resolved.
It shocks me that they still suffer from this. I have not used routers for the last 3 years and when I decided to get one I went for Linksys because I like their interfaces. I figured they had fixed that problem from back then.
Seems they haven't as I have to unplug my cables at random intervals for the network to work again.
It just dies without any warning, kills the internet connection and the network in general.
Seems I will have to return this junk and get myself another kind of wireless router. I am using version 6 of it btw.
Any suggestions that won't ruin me?

  • 2-Displays for Powermac G4 Gigabit

Running OS Tiger, I have the Powermac G4 Gigabit (Rage 128 Pro) with VGA and ADC. I have a Dell monitor connected to the VGA port and just bought a second Dell to connect to the ADC port. Using an adaptor to go to the ADC, I connected the second monitor, but it still only shows one monitor at a time. I went to System Preferences and the Arrange panel does not show.
Is this computer capable of 2 displays? If so, can someone help? I'm feeling desperate!

If there is no "Arrangement: then your graphics board can only run one port at a time.

  • AirPort network dropping connection at least twice a day

I'm running an AirPort network and guest network version 7.6.4 - Time Capsule serves as my router, extreme and express as my extenders.  At least twice a week, my AirPort Network drops wi-fi connectivity.  It's annoying and frustrating as often I'm using a VIOP line for work conference calling and or using web meeting services.  The wi-fi droppage requires me to un/re plug the time capsule - the only fix I've found.  Doing this corrects the issue until the next drop.  Usually a couple of days...
Is there a permanent fix I can use that I don't know about?  I was under the impression my AirPort Network "would just work"

Since the Thunderbolt Display has been released I have seen this issue on literally hundreds of display/laptop combinations. With and without the extension cable. I have not found any logic around the issue, trying different usb/thunderbolt ports, different sleep settings, power settings. This is a legitmate issue that should be addressed and Apple is not addressing it -- or can't address it. BTW-There is NO reason to engineer a product with an extension cable needed to operate the peripheral. The only way to solve this is to burn a USB port on your laptop. I am fairly certain the issue is power related over the Thunderbolt bus. However, I have also experienced issues with USB3 hubs on macs. So maybe it is a larger power issue.
Anyway, an Apple wired keyboard should just work out of the box.

  • O2 network dropping out

Is anyone else having problems with the o2 network dropping off regularly from their i-phone? I have spoken to o2 and they say i have to send the phone back to apple!
Someone has just told me that you can download a repair??? Does anyone know anything about it? Help I'm due to leave the country next week and dont have time to send my phone away and get it back before I leave.

    tb64,
You can try updating to iPhone firmware 1.1.4 to see if it helps resolve your issue if you haven't already.
Connect your iPhone to your computer, open iTunes and click "Check for Update".
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Edge network dropping

I have had my phone for a few months and it has worked great. I recently completed the 1.1.3 update and now have had the edge network drop twice. I have to power down to get it to be recognized. Has anyone else experiences this issue?

Well firstly I would update to 1.1.4. Secondly, I often find that turning Airplane mode on and then off again re-established EDGE if it's been lost. My guess is that this is a carrier issue rather than the iPhone.

  • HT204406 When I activate iTunes Match it goes through the process of analysing my library, then it matches a few songs but always then stops stating that the network dropped out - any ideas?

Well, you don't have to write down anything. Just click on the message and copy it. Then paste it here, or in a text editor (eg, TextEdit). And you can enter a string like "Audio CD" (w/o the quote marks) in the filter and see only messages containing it.
mds[71]: (Error) Server: Failed to register path "/Volumes/Audio CD"
That's the metadata server, used by Spotlight. AFAIK, Spotlight does not index audio CDs, so what is this about? I don't know. Maybe it's the cause of what you observe; or maybe it's another symptom. Thinking again of the network issue… have you maybe installed some third-party software related to both Spotlight and the network (Searchlight perhaps)?

  • K920 - Z2 Pro - Network Fluctuation & Network Drop.

    Hi,
I have received Lenovo Z2 Pro on 17th November 2014. Since the date of receiving phone has too much of network fluctuations. It fluctuate from 0 to full every 2-3 seconds. it goes to "no service" frequently. All this happens even when phone is kept steady at one location.
Situation gets worse where there is low network availability. Where there is low network availability, phone goes out of service (doesn't pick up network) very frequently.
I have 3 other phones which doesn't have any issue picking up network with same sim card at the exact same place. They also don't show any network fluctuations or network drops.
FYI, I have updated my Z2 Pro to latest firmware via OTA update on WiFi and I also have done factory reset 3 times.
Does anyone have a solution for this issue or is it a manufacturing defect.?
Or is it a software issue.?
    Thanks.

In addition to that, when you put your phone's network on WCDMA \ GSM (Auto) mode, it almost always chooses GSM (2G) network even when WCDMA (3G) network is available.
My Samsung Note II & other mobiles almost always pick up WCDMA (3G) network when put on Auto mode.
    It does seems software issue.

  • After Effects CS4 and NFS Network Drop-Outs

    Hi all,
We're experiencing a high number of NFS drop-outs ever since we've upgraded our department to AE CS4. I'm not saying CS4 is the culprit, I'm just saying this is when we started noticing the issue.
13 Apple MacPro 8-core systems. 12 Leopard, 1 Snow Leopard.
Projects are located on an Apple XServe 2.26 Quad-Core Xeon with 12GB RAM running 10.5.8 Server
Projects are shared up via NFS protocol via gigabit network.
Basically throughout the day, a random number of peole will lose connection to the NFS share, to which it returns on its own in a few moments. Though it's not everyone each time, all users encounter the issue at least once-a-day, usually more. (We have to different servers with NFS shares, one does not drop, the other does) The server that drops the share is the newer XServe Leopard and is the primary server where all the footage and projects are located. The 2nd server is just secondary library media and stock footage...
Essentially, I'm curious if anyone else is having NFS issues since the update to CS4. I'm just trying to weed out all elements. It's hard to say if it's the server itself, as the logs only note a drop once-in-a-while... We also use Rush Rendering for our Maya renders, which we have just upgraded to the latest version and we get drops even when no one is using Rush or Maya...
Very strange but extremely frustrating issue. It's not fun when someone is working on a project and loses it because the share drops out.
Any input greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more info.
    Thanks!

Session timeouts.... I really do think it's the server. AE doesn't care for specific network stuff, it's all just volumes/ drives to the program. To avoid these issues, you would have to shorten the refresh cycles on your server availability broadcasts or the "keep alive" cycles on the connection/ session settings themselves. I'd know how to do it on Win Server, but I have no clue with regards to XServe configuration. Still, certainly some simple console commands and a restart of the server software should be able to take care of the matter.

  • Network Dropping

Since I upgraded to Mavericks, my network connection would drop after waking from sleep and after startup. I would have to turn wifi off then on. I have log files to. I changed my email address to [email protected] in the logs

Are you connecting to a gigabit switch? If so, try going in to System Preferences/Network/Built-In Ethernet/Ethernet and manually switch to 100baseTX.
If that does't work, try turning off sleep in System Preferences/Energy Saver.
I've seen some problems with iMac Intel and some brands of gigabit switches.
    Let us know what works.

  • Screen sharing and home sharing makes network drop

Hi. I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks and I am having a weird network issue now. I use home sharing all the time to stream to my Apple TV and I use screensharing so I can connect from downstairs using my ipad or another computer. Every since the upgrade, If I am watching something on the Apple TV and then connect to my Macbook Pro, after a few seconds the Macbook Pro's network connection drops for a few seconds. The Apple TV loses connection to the Macbook Pro completely and my VNC app freezes for about 5-10 seconds. It eventually comes back, but this just happens over and over in a vicious cycle. Any ideas? I've tried running the Mavericks install again and fiddling with screensharing settings and VNC settings on the app, but it just seems like the two don't play well together on Mavericks. I never had any of these issues on Mountain Lion. My Macbook Pro is the late 2011 17 inch model with 16GB RAM. I also have a Belkin thunderbolt dock connected and a monitor connected to that via hdmi to mini display port. The disconnections happen whether I use the ethernet port on the Macbook or on the dock.

I've been having a similar issue since upgrading to Mavericks. I use screen sharing all the time to access my home computer from the road, but now it's hit or miss whether I can log in at all, and when I do, screen sharing eventually drops out after less than an hour.

  • IOS7.0.2 3G Network Dropping

Ever since the update my 3G network is continually dropping off. I have to go and reset my 3G and Cellular Data for it to connect again. Very annoying. Is this happening to anybody else and is there a solution? I'm not wanting to buy a new phone just yet.

I am having the same problem on my iphone 5s. Two of my friends both have 4s's are all having the same problem. We have all tried the above link and none of them offer a long term fix.
We are all with EE UK.
Before the recent updates I would always have a 3G signal which interestingly enough was the same strength as the 2g signal (when u switched 3G off) Now when I do have a 3G signal it's about 1bar for me at home where as before it was 4 or 5 bars. Other locations I regally goto I'm getting the same problem.
It's becoming frustrating to see GPRS on my phone all the time.
