PowerMac G4 Speakers--Compatibility?

I have old eyeball speakers from my PowerMac G4. They conect to a speaker jack rather than a headphone jack (the PowerMac has both). They won't fit properly into the headphone jack of my new MacBook. Is there anything I can do short of buying new speakers?
BTW, nobody at my local Apple Store even believed that Apple made computers with both headphone and speaker out jacks.
Thanks.

I'm assuming by speaker jack, your talking about a 1/4 inch plug so...
http://monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=2440
heres one from Monster Cable for $20, I'd go with this, Monster makes really good quality stuff and they have lifetime guarentee on all their stuff
was the 1/4 inch jack a stock feature with your G4?

  • Ibook g4/apple pro speakers compatibility

Im trying to hook my ibook up to my apple pro speakers using a griffin ifire.
However, somethings not right. The cable that came with the ifire has both a firewire port and an audio jack on each side of it, which it tells me to hook up between the computer and the ifire. then it tells me to hook up the ifire to the speakers. with what? My speakers have wires coming out of them that go right into a clear plastic box and out of that comes the usb cord that powers them. There is an audio jack on the other side of the plastic box, and there is a port on the other side of the ifire, but are the compatible, and if so what do i use to connect them with? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

    Hi Emily,
Are your speakers the ones that originally came with a Mac Cube?
    From http://maczealots.com/reviews/iFire/ :
Didn't the Apple PowerMac G4 Cube come with Apple Pro Speakers?
No, the original Apple Cube came with a USB-based version of the Apple Pro Speakers, and requires an external power supply. From Apple's website:
"If you're wondering in what way the Apple Pro Speakers are different from the speakers that come with the Power Mac G4 Cube, here's a quick answer: While the Apple Pro Speakers look very similar to the Power Mac G4 Cube speakers, the Apple Pro Speakers get their power from the computer and thus require a system with an Apple speaker mini-jack (like the one that's on the new Power Mac G4). The Power Mac G4 Cube speakers, on the other hand, are USB-powered and are designed to work only with Power Mac G4 Cube systems. Also, the G4 Cube speakers have an external amplifier, whereas the Power Mac G4 has an internal amplifier that supports the Apple Pro Speakers."
If yours are the cube speakers, then they aren't compatible with the iFire, I'm afraid.

  • Powermac 7500 monitor compatibility

    Hi all,
I have a PM 7500 that was hooked up to a HUGE 19" CRT that I want to dig out of mothballs for my kids. the monitor, though, just has to go, and I'm hesitant to put much money into any display for such an older system. SO, my question is which (currently available)monitors will still work with this. it is the original video card that supported, I think, 1280x1024, and I think the software was 8.1 or so (I may revert to 7.6). viewable size is not a big issue, and a smaller crt would be ok, but given how low some 15 or 17 lcd's have gotten, I could spring for that. the 7500 could use a vga monitor and I already have the old griffin monitor adaptor thingy that compensated for differences between pc and mac (inline between mac and display) many thanks!! has original video memory too, which I think was 2mb, expandable to 4.

If the amount of money spent for the replacement is the primary consideration and you just want a smaller display on the desktop, check for thrift stores in your area that accept donated computer equipment. As the prices for LCD displays have come down, many working CRT displays are donated to charitable organizations for the tax deduction. Over the past few years, I've bought six displays from local thrift stores and (fortunately) haven't had a problem with any of them yet. For a 15"-17" CRT, you'd probably pay about $15-$25 (or less), depending on how many they're trying to move from the shelves. As for LCD displays, there is an optimal resolution/refresh rate to be supported by the graphics controller. Even though I never considered connecting an LCD display to one of my 7500s, I installed ATI Rage Pro 8 MB PCI video cards in them. The screen redraws are much faster (especially for internet use), than the onboard graphics controller can provide.
If the 7500 has been in storage for some time, you'll undoubtedly need to replace the motherboard's 3.6 volt, ½AA lithium battery. An extremely weak or dead battery can cause a number of startup problems, not to mention the incorrect date/time alert each time you power it ON. The battery can be found at Radio Shack (extremely overpriced), battery retailers, or various online sources.

  • Surround Sound For the Mac?

Hello. I use my PC for games, I have a Creative Labs Xi-Fi card and 7.1 surround sound speakers there. I'd like the same quality on my Mac for movies, but especially for WoW. Is there a sound card or other surround sound solution for the Mac?

Hello, frustrated!! I empathize with you totally!! I own one Dell and 4 Mac's (for my creative work) including one top of the line MacPro, and I, too, have the 5.1 (and beyond!) sound problem issue. I agree with you that it is terrible that, in my case, after spending $12,000 for this bleeding edge technology, it only comes with stereo capability! When I used my older G-4, I was extremely happy for years with the Revolution 7.1 Surround Sound Card, by a great company called M-Audio. This card worked seamlessly right out of the box.....the software was so easy to use, too. So, naturally I was really shocked and bummed out a few months ago, when I learned from their tech support and sales team there, that no, this card will NOT work on the MacPro.
From the M-Audio website: Re: Apple Intel Mac Pro & DualCore PowerMac G5 desktop compatibility:
The new Intel based Mac Pro desktop computers, as well as the latest generation DualCore PowerMac G5's, have PCI-Express slots, and not PCI or PCI-X (Like the Delta/Revolution Series cards). Not only are the data rates on PCI-Express different from PCI/PCI-X, but PCI-Express uses serial data transfers versus PCI/PCI-X transferring its data in a parallel fashion. For these reasons, a PCI-Express type motherboard connector (or "slot") is physically different from a PCI or PCI-X type connector. Therefore a PCI-Express adapter will not physically fit in a PCI or PCI-X slot, and vice-versa. This is true regardless of the adapter card's manufacturer.
All of our current USB and FireWire interfaces are compatible with the new Intel Based Mac Pro and late model DualCore PowerMac G5 computers.
    Please use their link: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.family&ID=recording
Of course, I prefer the efficient elegance of an internal card, rather than an external box providing more desktop clutter, but at least this is a solution for us! Best of luck to you!!

Since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 I'm having compatibility issues with my speakers / docking station and my iTunes wifi sync isn't working. Anyone else having the same problems? Both worked fine until the update...

Okay. I got it working again by setting it up as a new phone instead of just syncing. Then I backed up. All is good today.

  • PowerMac G5 DP 1.8GHz/GeForce FX 5200 - DELL 2407WFP 24" LCD compatibility?

    Hi all,
I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 (up-to-date) and would like to ask if there's anyone using and/or knowing about the following compatibility:
PowerMac G5 dual processor 1.8GHz with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (64MB VRAM)
    and
DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor
I have the PDF spec sheet for this DELL monitor, but unfortunately couldn't find accurate info about this particular and possible scenario.
    Related info:
Size (Viewable Image Screen): 24 inches (24-inch viewable image size)
    Optimal Resolution: 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz
Connector Type: Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP
Other Connectors/Features: S-Video, Composite, Component, Integrated 9-in-2 media card reader/slots, Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 Ports, Kensington security port
Hope that someone can help. I am currently testing a DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor and it works flawlessly, but I am interested in paying a little bit more and buy the 24".
    Thank you all in advance,
Power Mac G4 Cube DP 1.7GHz (+ base panaflo fan)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Mike: thanks for posting!
As far as I understand, DELL LCD monitors and Apple PowerMac computers (with their standard 64MB graphic cards) don't have any compatibility issues, though none of the forums/threads/movies you point are 2407WFP related.
Meanwhile, I have emailed DELL and trusting their reply, they assure all of their current line LCD monitors use the latest revision, probably REV A03, as described in this recent Apple discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3541462&#3541462
I will definitely give the DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor a try and will return to this thread with some conclusive feedback.
Again, thank you for taking your time reading/guiding me.

  • MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 Compatibility issue with Bose Companion 5 USB Speakers on Mavericks

Hi, I wonder if somebody has compatibility issues of new MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) and Bose Companion 5 USB speakers? They work fine on a left USB port on my MacBook Pro, but doesn't work at all on a right one: USB speakers are not recognised or if recognised as "Uknown Audio Device", they doesn't work any way and iTunes stops playing till I take USB cable out.
I tested them already on two identical machines - the same issue: left USB port works fine, right one - not.
While comparing, I tested this audio device also with other MacBooks:
MacBook Pro 15" 2008 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook 13" 2010 (Mountain Lion) - both USB ports work fine
MacBook Pro 13" Retina early 2013 (Mavericks) - both USB ports work fine
So it is somehow related exactly to the MacBook Pro Retina 15" Retina late 2013 with Maverics. I guess some sound card and USB port communication issue. Does any body exeriences such problems as well?

    Hi,
Im having USB problems with storage devices and android phone connections

Are there compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard V. 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 when installed on a PowerMac G5? I understand the Leopard upgrade is okay on the later Intel Mac, but what about my G5 PowerPC Mac?

I do not use Microsoft Excel much but when i do use it it works fine on my G5. my powerbook has excel to but sometimes freezes on the powerbook. but not the G5 so give it a try you can always uninstall it if it does not work good

  • Compatability of optical drive, PowerMac to Mac Pro

I have a PowerMac G5 that I am no longer using. I now use a Mac Pro, I think it's 1.1. Would the SuperDrive from the Mac Pro work in my PowerMac? If so, how do I remove it? (I know how to put it into the PowerMac)

    Hi,
G5s used IDE/ATAPI opticals, Mac Pros use SATA Opticals.
Might work with the right adapter...

  • IMac compatibility with 5.1 digital speakers

Hello folks, here is my question (sorry if it's been posted before):
I have just purchased a logitech z 5500, which has a 5.1 sound. I am going to buy an iMac as soon as they release the new one, but will it support my speakers set? I know you can't tell yet, but what are your opinions? And do the latest iMacs support it?
    Thanks.

Mac's do put out DD 5.1 sound, you just need an optical connection. The connector will need connections like:
    http://www.macconnection.com/IPA/Shop/Product/Detail.htm?sku=4919364&br=14
If the Logitech Z 5500's have a optical connection then I'd say you're in business!

  • Time Capsule compatibility with wireless speakers

I heard you can use TC with wireless speakers throughout your house to play I Tunes from my MAC. How do you setup TC to allow the use of this wireless function.

Yes, it will work.. for some it seems to be a bigger struggle than others. It depends on how much security you have set and windows version. Later like win7 more difficult than earlier version.
Download and install the airport utility for windows.. I think it includes bonjour for windows.. if not install that as well.
Set up the TC is important.. windows does not handle names like Apple.
So TC name and particularly wireless names.. short, no spaces, pure alphanumeric.
On the disk page, turn on the guest account and set the correct workgroup name.. usually WORKGROUP.
When you open the TC, type into the windows explorer address bar.
    \\TCIPADDRESS or \\TCName.
where you replace those placeholders with the actual ip address or actual name..
And remember windows is backwards.. uses back not forward slash.. which everything else uses.

Is there a good reason why Safari shouldn't broadcast sound to remote speakers through Airport Express in the same way that ITunes does.
