PowerMac G5 Error Codes?

Thanks In advance to everyone. I have a Late 2005 G5 Dual 1.8Ghz 6gigs of Ram, Lacie firewire 400 Pci card, internal 4 port sata Card, ATI XT800 MAc video card running tiger(10.4.11). I noticed the Machine acting very sluggish the other day, My first thought was the Memory maybe there are some bad DIMMS, After a restarted things where ok again. Right Away ran memtest, came up with no issues(I know it did'nt test all the memory) But I thought this was a good start. But so far been ok. I then ran hardware test twice at 5Min and 30 sec error Code on Logic Board (Error code 2PFW/3.10: FW) This Looks Like a FireWire Error I think but Im thinking this a memory problem, Some bad Dimms. Does anyone know what this error code is? Thanks for Looking

That is inded a Logic Board Error to do with Firewire, do all your ports work?
Have you tried it without FW devices hooked up?

• PowerMac G4 Dual Optical [Error Code Help]

I recently got rid of my old PowerMac G4 Dual Optical.
It was a solid machine, never broke down, as I constantly maintained it for about 8 years, I only upgraded due to Intel (and some new apps I wanted to use).
Fortunately, I found a good home for it, and I told the guy, what to do to maintain it, and to call me if he has an issue.
Anyways, low and behold he now has an issue, in the form of a Error Code when he turns the machine on (See below).
I've spoke to him over the phone, and walked him through resetting the Pram, and reinstalling the disks (start up and boot from the disk, while holding down cmd+C), but no joy.
He said: "I managed to get onto the desktop again today but again it crashed with in a minute of being on it. It came up with the error message unable to find driver so I copied it down"
Personally I think the internal Hard Drive has gone and needs to be replaced, but I could be wrong.
If somebody can somebody please shed some light on this, as I'd be very grateful.
Cheers,
K.

• All of a sudden I have no sound on my PowerMac G4, also iTunes gives me an error code 0x666D743F, what is going on?

2 Days ago everything was working fine, today I turn on my computer and the only sound I get is at startup. I've tried loading iTunes and I get an apple error code 0x666D743F. I've tried checking the MIDI Audio setup and tested the right and left speakers and i get sound there, but nothing else makes a sound, no alert sounds, nothing. I'm confused, please help?

Thank you for the reply. I have tried resetting the PRAM and nothing. I have deleted pref files that might have something to do with the issue and again nothing.
I have done this so far:
1. Reset PRAM
2. Rebooted in safe mode with preference files deleted or moved from the Library (com.apple.soundpref.plist and om.apple.systempreferences.plist)
3. Done a virus, worm, trojan sweep - nothing
4. Made sure AUdio MIDI setting are as they should be ( although the speaker config option gives me sound from my speakers )
5. Defragged, repaired permissions, repaired disk etc...
6. Booted from OsX CD
Still no sound.
Should I wipe the drive and reinstall a fresh OS? Do you think this might help at all?
I am sure it isn't the soundcard hardaware or I wouldn't get a startup sound or sound at when I use the speaker configuration in AUDIO MIDI, right?
I'm frustrated! lol

• Error code 28519

Hey,
I recently upgraded from Logic 6 to 7.2. Had been using Digidesign Mbox as core audio driver for years on Logic 6, but now I've upgraded it, i always get this:
"Error Code 28519 was returned by the core audio driver".
Just to make sure it was the mbox i switched the driver to inbuilt audio and it works fine...but this is no good obviously as i have no inputs...
One point is before i installed logic 7 i had to install tiger on my mac getting it to 10.4.8 (had been 10.3.9 which is not compatible for logic 7). might this have messed something up?
Any ideas?
Thanks for reading.
Sam
Dual 1.8Ghz Powermac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

hi, thanks for the quick reply. I've spent the last
few days going back and forth trying various things
to no avail.
I managed to find the latest core audio driver the
enables mbox to work on 10.4
"digidesign coreAudio Drivers 7.0",
this didnt seem to help. i thought this may be
because i also have pro tools installed and its a
third party thing.
I dont seem to be able to uninstall protools. (have
no CD and i see no relevant downloads).
You did not steal this computer, did you? Where are your ProTools install CDs?
I found a firmware update, but when using this it
said i didnt need it since my mbox already had it.
I have also downgraded to 10.4.3 (the minimum
requirements of Logic Pro to see if this helped.
The requirements change with the version of Logic you are running...are you running the latest version? 7.2.3 ?
by the way,the problem you are having has nothing to do with Logic,it's all about getting your copmuter to see and use the MBox.
Now I have a different problem (since downloaded the
driver), arguably worse. In the hardware and drivers
section of Logic Pro the drop down menu doesnt even
show the mbox. I can only select built in audio. the
same happened after uninstalling the driver so it was
back to how it was.
oh dear
Can anyone help me ?
Again, without the ProTools CD installers, you can't do an uninstall of ProTools, which is probably a good thing about now.
Cheers

• ITunes Rental Error Code 5103

I can't watch rentals, and they don't process. I continually get an error code 5103. Is anyone else getting this same error code?
Thanks,
David

Thanks for your response. I'm still having trouble playing movies (error code 5103) on my desktop computer, but I tried an experiment with downloading the incomplete downloads to my laptop, which is an old PowerMac G4. The movies downloaded and played, but since that laptop is so old, the streaming was really slow and the movies were unwatchable.
In my case, I had a kernel panic that reset my clock on my desktop. This happened after I had rented one movie. I reset my clock to the correct time and am still getting the error code, even with new rentals.
I suspect that Apple has written code that identifies your actual computer ID, or at least your IP address. This code must cause the iTunes Store to lock your account for that particular computer if the time changes.
I've tried every conceivable solution to no avail. Reauthorizing the computer won't do the trick either.
They really should do something about this problem, since users have various reasons why their clocks could change (relocating, battery going dead, and so on.)
If anyone else has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

• Error code -36 with FAT 32 USB Flash Drive

When copying files from my hard drive to a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive I keep getting error code -36 errors. I reformatted the flash drive to Mac OS Extended and the files copied fine. I formatted it back to FAT32 and the error returned. I need to use this drive with PC computers at school and can't leave it in the Mac format. Anyone know of a solution to this problem. It didn't do it with my G4 powermac and OS 10.4 but does with the mac mini with 10.6.

This is a problem I've been dealing with since getting a new Macbook for christmas. In my case I use a Macbook with 10.6.2 at home, networked to a winxp computer, also use FAT formatted USB sticks for backups and taking files to work....and at work I use a mix of winxp machines and older macs running 10.3 and 10.4. I move files around between them all the time, and have had this annoying error -36 file copying problem with the 10.6.2 macbook since day 1.
I did read about the dot_clean solution, and it does seem to work....sometimes. But the problem ISN'T just when copying a folder full of files. I also have the situation where I work on files in InDesign, and then export a PDF directly to the desktop. I then try to copy that ONE pdf file from the desktop to a FAT USB stick OR to an internet-accessed Appleshare volume, and I will get the dreaded error -36. MOST of the time when I get the error on a single file like this, it did actually copy and is useable on the USB stick / Appleshare volume and I can ignore the error. But sometimes not. Either way, it does show that the problem isn't just with folders of files, or even with the situation of copying a file from mac to windows to mac and then getting the error the next time you try to copy it to a win formatted volume.....you CAN get the error with an individual, just-created file in 10.6.2.
I sure wish Apple would fix this already!

• $ENV{PATH} error code

My powerbook g4 (with os x 10.4) has been running really slow since I reinstalled the system software. I reinstalled b/c i bought this used and wanted to change the name of the computer, settings, etc. When i reinstalled tiger, i connected it to my PowerMac G4 so i could transfer the user settings, applications, etc to the laptop (note- my PowerMac G4 is on 10.3.9). since then it's been running slow & a couple of weird things are going on:
1. whenever i try to download something from the web, i click on the dmg file on my desktop, i get this message: unmountable image or disk or something to that effect.
2. i was just running Onyx in hopes of getting things working more smoothly and faster & when i was optimizing the system this error code came up:
Insecure $ENV{PATH} while running setuid at /usr/bin/update/prebinding line 55.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I'd rather fix it then reinstall the system software and all of my apps. thanks!

Hi chrysalls, welcome to the forum.
Have a read at:
http://www.osxfaq.com/man/3/Env.ws
You may want to wipe the book's hard drive again, if you're backed up, and give it another try. Be more selective in what you bring over from the PowerMac and how soon.
I'm wondering if there is some sort of conflict between the machines and platforms?

When trying to import videos off of a CD I continually get error code -36 on one of the videos. How can I fix this?

Contact Apple and request a 10.4 or possibly a 10.5 distribution disk for this system, if you've not obtained that DVD disk from the seller.
Boot and use that distribution disk to wipe the hard disk via Disk Utility, and to then reinstall OS X.
Best to start with a fresh installation of OS X, as that'll provide the default environment and not something that's been customized and extended by the previous owner.
The last OS X version that was supported for most PowerMac G5 systems was 10.5.8, and that would be preferable — if your Mac supports that.
If you're not sure which Mac you have, then use the  > About This Mac from the menu and request more information on the system.  You're looking for a model number listed there, and that'd be something like PowerMac7,3 or PowerMac11,2 for a ~2005-vintage PowerMac system.  Whatever model number you have can then be used to determine the general specs for the configuration, and what the last version of OS X that was supported for the system.

• 2MEM/1/4:DIMM2/J13 Error code

My PowerMac recently reported this error during an apple hardware test. I have the factory 512 ram installed, plus additional 6gb of ram in 1gb cards.
I still get this error message no matter which configuration of ram cards i use, e.g. if i move or remove ram from this slot i still get this error message (as long as cards are installed in this slot). The factory ram cards are the only ones i have not tested in this carousel method of hunting down the bad card. Any ideas? Would a defective factory card in the 1MEM slot cause this error?

Sorry, i had read a similar post which noted that "j13". My error code just notes 2MEM as the location, but that has always been the location of an added ram stick. It just hasnt mattered which one is in there, it always reports an error there. I just revised the RAM configuration (as my last try) to have all my 1GB sticks installed in 0MEM through 5MEM, took out the factory 256's, and reran the AHT. It just passed. So it appears a defective factory card in 1MEM causes a fault to show in the next slot back?

• Error code 10822

When I download an app and I try to open it, it doesn't open and I get an error message: An unexpected error occurred (error code -10822). This only happens with some apps, not all.

I was seeing this same problem today on my G4 PowerMac. At 1pm I logged in. At some time later (maybe 2), I tried to wake the computer up. It woke, but the screen saver never gave me an opportunity to unlock the screen. I logged in remotely using ssh, and then I did 'kill -TERM -1' which kills all my processes.
After that, I saw the usual login screen and I logged in. It was in this second session that everything was messed up. The same symptoms you described: couldn't copy/paste, and I couldn't even drag an app from a disk image to the hard disk. Trying to run the app directly (i.e., going into the application and double-clicking the binary's icon) gave me the 10822 error, which is how I found this page.
I found this message: http://lists.apple.com/archives/carbon-dev/2006/Jun/msg00331.html, which implicates launchd. From my terminal, I ran 'ps auxw | grep -i launchd'. I found that there were a few running. One runs as root, and that's supposed to be there. One (/sbin/launchd) was running as my userid and was started at about the right time. (i.e., at about 2:15pm, when I logged in most recently). There was another one, though, running as me, and started at 1pm. My guess is that it was hanging out left over from my 1pm login session. It's process ID was 209. I did 'kill -9 209' to be sure to kill it. Then I logged out.
When I logged back in, everything worked again. Now, I know you've already wiped your system, so this isn't that helpful. You also restarted your system a few times while troubleshooting, so it's unlikely that this would have helped you. Restarting your system would have surely gotten rid of any spurious launchd processes. I can only guess that something about launchd's configuration got corrupted. The reinstall would obviously fix that.

• What is error code 10210 - it only started happening recently

Have had my PowerMac for months - in the last few weeks I have started to get 10210 error codr notifications - and then cannot start a new app - have to re-boot

Hello mxmoore, and a belated welcome to Apple Discussions.
Where are these error codes appearing, in a pop-up dialogue box or are your seeing them in the console?
Does this event affect a particular app you are trying to start, or all apps? Can you repeat it or is it random (unpredictable)?
Does this result in your Mac freezing?
Some things to consider.
1. Have at least 15% available space free on your hard drive. Macs like the wide open spaces.
2. Run Disk utility over the HD doing a Repair Disk, but you will need to boot onto the DVD to do this via the DVD's Disk Utility.
+Insert the Install Disk 1 into the drive and then select Restart; when you hear the chime hold down C key until the apple logo appears.+
+This will take you to the installation software, but you do not want to install.+
+Select your language, then go up to the top menu bar and navigate to the Disk Utility application.+
+Select the hard drive on the left, then go to the First Aid pane where you can click on Repair Disk.+
+If it finds errors, repeat the process until it reports no errors.+
+After these repairs, quit the Installer, and restart normally.+
+Once restarted normally run Repair Permissions from the Disk Utility application found on your hard drive in Application/Utilities.+
See how you go with that mx and I hope this general advice/maintenance gets rids of that annoyance for you.

You're using the Finder to burn?
A Google search on this error code turns up a lot of
topics. Some point to the media as the culprit,
others point to Tiger, some to the drive itself.
Fuji isn't a bad brand of media, but it's not
amongst the best, either.
Generally, an older burner can use 16X media, but
would obviously only be able to burn at the maximum
speed of the drive. It's possible that your drive
doesn't recognize the media code on the disc and
refuses to burn. Sometimes a firmware update to the
drive can solve this problem.

Hi All,
I have a G5 2.5 GHz dual processer that seems to work fine after 14 months. But when I run the Apple Hardware Test, I get the error message listed in my subject above. I talked to Apple and took the machine in for service. Servicer said get the latest upgrade of the AHD and try it instead of one that came with my machine. After some work (a good bit), I got Apple to send me the upgrade and when I run it, I still get the same error code! Does anyone have any suggestions? I could sure use them. Thanks,
