Powermac G5 Quad- Maximum Amount of Display cards?

Is there a maximum amount of display cards I can have?
What card does one recommend i add as a second card (i guess there is less bandwidth for the second card) i need something else with two DVI outputs..
I want to have my two displays for regular computing and then another video card that goes to my HDTV so i can sort of have a media center setup.. anyone done anything like this? Is there any "media center" software or display management software to make something like this work cool? something like.. an iTV with my existing powermac, if you know what i mean.

It is possible to run four PCI-e graphics cards so long as none are double slot cards. You would be limited to the usual suspect cards nV 6600LE, nV 6600, ATI X1900, nV quadro 4500. each card can drive one or two monitors.
Elgato EyeHome or EyeTv would give you many AppleTV like capabilities and Front Row-ish interface

  • Maximum amount of displayed tabs

    Hello all,
I'm using the tag xhtmlb:tabStrip in my BSP application with 8 tab strips. The system only displays 7 tabs in maximum (and a menu on the right hand side of the page) although there is enough space for more tab pages. Are there any restrictions in the amount of maximum displayed tabs?!?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Thomas

    Hi Raja,
I am on ECC6.0. I tried this, and I could display 8 tabs!!! Just added 8 tabs and 8 of them are displaying. See I jhave just added like below.
I am not able to paste my code, but I have just added 8 tabs in the tabstrip example in SBSPEXT_HTMLB.
    Is it not correct?
    Thanks,

  • Graphic card for a PowerMac G5 quad 2.5ghz

I have a powermac g5 quad 2.5ghz with a 30in cinema display and i am looking to upgrade my graphic card so that i get better resolution out of my monitor. what are some good ones that are fairly inexpensive? I have a Nvidia GeForce 7800GT 256mb right now
    Message was edited by: jrgphotography

    Hi-
Fairly inexpensive? That's a relative consideration.....
All OEM cards support the 30" ACD at 2560 x 1600 native resolution.
Only one of the ports on each card id dual link, with the other limited to 1920 x 1200.
The Geforce 6600 LE is the bottom of the pack, with the 6600 (256 MB) being only slightly better.
The 7800 GT and the Radeon X1900 G5 Edition are about equal in performance, and are two desirable cards for performance graphics.
Both have a dual link DVI for the 30", and both have the necessary horsepower.
I can't find a retail Mac edition of the X1900, but this flashed Radeon X1900 is cheap and has two dual link DVI ports.
But, since you already have a 7800 GT, you only have one real option left. the Geforce 7800 GTX.
    http://www.barefeats.com/mutant4.html
The absolute pinnacle of performance for the PCIe G5 is a flashed Geforce 7800 GTX (512MB).
These cards have 2 dual link DVI ports to support 2 30" ACDs.

I suppose, depending on your usage, a Quadro FX4500 may be an option.
There is a link on my page to help determine if that is a better choice:

  • Will the new ATI graphics card work on PowerMac G5 Quad?

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with my PowerMac G5 Quad, simply the graphics card is at fault. The rest of the machine is in perfect working order. I need a new graphics card and i've searched ebay (UK) and found some products. However, I would like a new graphics card with a little more power.
As I develop code using the OpenCL API on the windows machine, I would like to transfer this process over to my Mac (have to install OpenCL API myself, as Leopard does not have native OpenCL support). More importantly, OpenCL supports selected GPU types i.e. latest GPUs from ATI/Nvidia.
Simply put, would anyone know or have experience installing the newer ATI/NVIDIA generation of Mac Graphic cards on PowerMac G5 Quads and if so, which graphic card (ATI RADEON 4850 etc).
As I think about this, both PowerMac G5 Quad and Mac Pro utilise PCI-E and yes, even though graphics cards are not particularly interchangeable on different architectures (or are they?) I would just like to know if anyone can give me advice or if anyone has had success or failure at such an attempt.
I really cannot afford to buy a Mac Pro machine and there is still many years of life left in my PowerMac G5. I really need your help and advice friends.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
No modern card will work in a G5.
The best that one can do in a PCIe graphics G5 is to use a flashed Geforce 7800 GTX 512MB card.
That card is the pinnacle of GPU power for a G5.
There are no options beyond that.
Here is a full, "short" list of options:

  • PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5 Video Card Upgrade?

I've been trying to upgrade my video card (for Final Cut Pro) in my PowerMac G5 Quad 2.5, and I'm trying to figure out which card(s) would be best for me. (can't get a Mac Pro 'till next year)
I guess I'm right on the cusp of the PCI Express connection. (is that true?)
Can someone point me in the right direction. Latest I was trying for were the Radeon x1900, or one of the 2800/2600 pro mac edition. Not sure, now, which connection is correct, though...
    Thank you for your help!
    joe

Thanks. I'm still trying to make sure my computer is indeed the PCI Express slot.
I can get a Radeon x1900 card (used) that was in a MacPro - but I don't know if that's the same slot either. I thought I read that people HAD put the x1900 cards in the G5 Quad. Would the Mac Pro NOT have a PCI Express slot, therefore this card would not work in my G5 Quad? How can I tell. I got a description from the person selling it - but I can't understand it.
(I also meant to say the other cards I was looking at were the Radeon 9800 Mac and the 9600 Mac - late typing, sorry)
I currently have the 6600 stock video card that came with the computer. Since Final Cut Pro 6 really needs speed (on my MacBook Pro it's struggling a bit), I thought it would be the one thing I could do, since I have 6.5 gigs of ram and plenty of drives and space. I'm tempted to wait, but the need for speed is tough...
    Thanks for all the help.

  • I have entered my iTunes code, but am unable to use the amount on my card to purchase songs in my wish list

Because of a past experience with fraudulant charges with Apple, I wish now to pay for my downloads with an iTunes card.  I purchased one for $20, logged on to my account, entered the "redeem" code that was on the new card, and then went into the iTunes store and added songs to my wish list.  When I was finished, I pushed the "Buy All" button to purchases all the songs on my wish list, which totaled less than the amount shown on my account that I had downloaded from my iTunes card. But I found myself in this "loop" of needing to sign into my account (which I already was because it displayed my name) and then it would ask for the "redeem" code.  When I would once again enter that same code from the back of my iTunes card, it told me it was unable to use it because that code had already been redeemed.
Yes, I had loaded that into my account, and it still showed the full amount of the card value next to my name.  That did not change or show it being reduced by the amount I had wanted to purchase from my wish list, so I knew I still have that amount sitting in my "bank" waiting to be spent.
How do I access it, or better yet,  get out of this loop of log in/redeem/already redeemed mess.

Click on the "Start" button. Click "Run." Type the word "cmd" in the open box. When the DOS screen comes up, type "netsh winsock reset." Press "Enter." Type "exit" to close the DOS window and go back to Windows.
    Restart the computer.

  • Maximum Amount of Ram

I recall reading, somewhere, something that gave me the impression that there was a limit to the total amount of RAM that one can have in a MacBook Pro, and any computer really.
Is this true? And if it is, how can I tell what the maximum amount is that I can put in my computer, or if someone can simply tell me, that works too.

    A recommendation for your consideration:
3rd Party sources have you remove the one or two 4Gig cards you have now in your MBP and replace with one(1) with their 8Gig card or two (2) of their 8Gig cards for a total of 16Gigs.
MBP has only 2 memory card slots on 17" MBP (early 2011)
Higher density RAM will be available hence even higher RAM options in the near future.
Big time question would be :"is this an appropriate "upgrade" from a cost-benefit perspective"!!
One wants to optimize NOT maximize in all choices.
    Let 'er rip and...
    cheers

  • Maximum amount of messages allowed

Please advise what is the maximum amount of messages allowed during the Automatic Message Propagation in Intranet applications.

Are you sure this is a report, and not an extract? If it's an extract there are better tools to use for the job. (SSIS perhaps?)
If you must run it through SSRS, you'll need to shrink your columns widths down to 454.5 / Number of Columns.
It might be worth considering displaying the data the other way, too.

  • The Maximum Amount?

Thanks to several users, 90% of my Mac problems have been solved and both of my Macs have been running smoothly for nearly a year now.
I currently have an iMac 17" (G4) from 2004 that runs smooth as butter. But the one I use most of the time is my MacBook Pro 15" 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. It was bought refurbished Winter 2006 and had 1 GB of memory installed.
There's still one empty slot in my Mac and I just bought the game Spore and would love to be able to run it at (close to) Maximum settings.
I have read that the maximum amount of memory my particular model can take is 2 GB. But I believe I have seen 2 GB RAM (on one card) being sold for my model.
So my question is this: is the maximum amount of memory for MY particular model of MB Pro limited to 2, 3, or 4 GB?
I've also read that www.datamemorysystems.com is a reputable seller.
    Thanks for any replies!

I've also read that www.datamemorysystems.com is a reputable seller.
To add my two cents--for the last five years I have bought the majority of my RAM from DMS with the remainder being from OWC. I find the DMS RAM finder system to be helpful and easy for inexperienced buyers to navigate, and I've yet to find incorrect information.
Only once did I have trouble with DMS RAM and it was due to an oddball pickiness on the part of an old G3 PowerBook. DMS worked with me to get past the issue.

  • PowerMac G5 Quad GeForce 7800 GTX 512mb or Quadro 4500 FX

Hey, best regards for all users. I have a question about changing graphics card. I'll be gratefull for all help.
    I have PowerMac G5 Quad Late 2005 - M9592LL/A and OS X Leopard 10.5.8.
My card is GeForce 7800GTX 512MB and Quadro fx4500 model p348.
I'm looking for ROM for this cards for Mac G5. I want to change 6600 for 7800GTX 512MB or Quadro. Cards tested on PC are working.
Anyone can help ? I can't find any info about ROM for this cards.
    Thanks all !

Both the X1900 (R580) and the 7800 GTX (G70) are capable GPUs on advanced cards, both targeting and supporting Shader Model 3.0. 3D was a focal point in development for either card.
Approaches for shader implementation are very different between the two cards.
Arguements for either abound, but, 3D performance will be a defining factor to show shader prowess.
Architecturally, the cards are very different, but, in the end, memory bandwidth, an important performance feature, is highest with the 7800 GTX; 54.4 GB/s vs. 38 GB/s for the Mac Edition Radeon.
The next X19xx card, the X1950, almost doubled memory bandwidth over the X1900.
I know guys that use flashed X1950 (512 MB) cards really like them.
Support of DirectX 9 and Shader Model 3.0 make either card more than is necessary for OS X Core Image and OpenGL requirements.
You bring up a very important point regarding application specific performance.
Games are one form of benchmark, but not always indicative of real world performance.
In Photoshop, CS4, the 7800 GTX is a fully supported card, whereas the X1900 (256 MB) card is not supported. The 512 MB version of the X1900 is supported, but doesn't help owners of the Mac Edition.
There are pros and cons with either card, eventually driver and OpenGL support being the defining point.
Early driver issues with the X1900 in OS X and a relatively short retail availability likely affect the lack of empirical data on the cards performance.
The following, though comparing a X1900XT (not the little brother X1900GT which is the G5 version) with a Geforce 7800 GTX on platforms other than Mac, the comparisons do show pro oriented application performance.
Though not necessarily applicable to OS X and PPC Macs, I thought it to be an interesting set of tests.
    http://ixbtlabs.com/articles2/cpu/nvidia-vs-ati-on-amd-and-intel.html
Either card is great, either is way better than the 6600, and, as you point out, availability is an important factor.

  • PowerMac G5 Quad - 2 issues that require your assistance ...

Hi Everyone ... I used to hang-out here a few years back under the handle KentZ, but I can't get back into my account for the life of me ... guess I have to start fresh.
I've been experiencing a few problems as of late with my PowerMac G5 Quad and I'm hoping someone may have some insight. I've tried the obvious "solutions", but please mention them, just in case I missed something - no such thing as condescension on this thread!
1] Fans - I'm not one to complain about fan noise on this machine, though I do have one weird issue. Upon start-up, the fans sound strained (can happen randomly) as though I'm running a small batch process or something. If I then go into sys prefs/energy saver/options and cycle the processor performance from highest to reduced and then back to highest, the fans drop back to idle speed. Works every time, but why is this happening?
    Here are the stats:
All CPU fans are around 1455-1500 rpm and the radiator pump is at 3600 rpm. Drive bay spins at 1000 rpm, expansion slots at 1560 rpm, and MLB fan spins at 1100 rpm.
AFTER I toggle the energy saver/options:
All CPU fans are around 970-1000 rpm and the radiator pump is at 1250 rpm. Drive bay spins at 1000 rpm, expansion slots at 1560 rpm, and MLB fan spins at 1100 rpm.
Something to do with the CPUs ...?
2] The more serious issue: system hangs. Generally, when I'm doing something that's graphically intensive: expose-ing a lot, happens all-the-time in Aperture, happened tonight twice while watching an imbedded video online. Usually, the cursor still moves around and sound may continue, but the system is completely frozen and I have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes it happens when I'm nowhere near the machine. Any idea what this may be? I ran a RAM test a while back and all appeared OK.
Thank you everyone for reading and/or commenting.

Hello KenZ, and a warm re-welcome to the forums!
I can't get back into my account for the life of me ...
I've seen a few of these and asked, highers ups have mentioned "User Error", but I don't buy it myself.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
    Reboot, test again.
While it can still can be HW such as Video Card, Airport, etc., If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it is some 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
    Check System Preferences' Other row.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
I ran a RAM test a while back and all appeared OK.
Unfortunately, the only time you can trust a RAM test if it reports an error, not if it doesn't, seems OSX "Tests" the RAM more than any test.

  • I just bought a docking station for my iPad so I could plug into a mixing board and record a live show.  I was disappointed at the time limitation for the recordings.  What is the maximum amount you can record a song into GB for the iPad?

I purchased a docking station for my iPad so that I could record a live recording of my band directly from a mixing board this weekend using GarageBand.  Unfortunately, I was unaware of the song length limitations of the iPad version of this program.  Basically, was unable to capture more than 15 minutes of the gig.  I've read other conversations on this forum and can't really determine the maximum amount of time this application can record.  Can anyone tell me how long GarageBand for ipad can record at one single time and how to adjust the settings to achieve this?  Also, is anyone aware of any other apps than could be used to record a longer please share.  Thanks.
    CP

I received an email reply from George, the Founder and CEO of Studiomini, he indicated to me that their app does not have any time limitations in regards to recording like GB does, you are only limited by the amount of free space on your iPad.  Fo what it's worth, I think the Alesis IO Dock is an amazing piece of equipment.  I would highly recommend purchasing the IO Dock and plugging your mixing board into the dock to capture your rehearsal.  Hopefully the feedback I received from Studiomini is accurate and I can capture my entire rehearsal at one time.  I hope this feedback helps.  One last note, apparently their will be a update soon to view Studiomni in the landscape view on the iPad instead of just the portrait view.
